Something Blue

a/n: I'm back! I feel like I should write more, but I never have ideas when it's convenient to write. Oh well. Please enjoy this short and sweet fanfiction/headcanon I had about Ron and Hermione's wedding.

Hermione Granger stared at the necklace. It was given to her when she was born, with the knowledge that someday it would be worn for this. It was from her grandmother, who had worn it when it was new. And though the jewels didn't shine quite as brightly, and the chain was a bit faded. Hermione still loved it. It was old, but she treasured it for its age.

Hermione then moved on to look at the dress. It was beautiful. Simple yet elegant, the skirt fell to her ankles and the sleeves came to her wrists. A sheer white fabric covered the entire thing, making it shimmer the tiniest bit as she walked. It was new, made for her to wear on this one day, and after tonight, it would be packed away, carefully preserved both with magic and human care, to be shown to children later on.

She turned her gaze to her shoes. They were her mother's. Hermione looked extraordinarily like her mother. They were the same height, had the same eyes, and the same shoe size. Her mother had worn these shoes nearly a quarter of a century ago, on her special day, and now it was Hermione's turn to wear the shoes. But they remained her mother's. Something borrowed, as it were.

She slowly began to put the ensemble on, thinking that something was missing, but she couldn't quite figure out what. Harry and Ginny would be part of the wedding party. All the Weasleys were coming, as was Hagrid. And Ron. The boy she had grown to be the best of friends with at school, who was waiting, as was she, to be joined together for all eternity. Hermione had to laugh a bit – she must be getting sentimental in her age, she teased herself.

But something was still… Just not quite right…

"Hermione?"

Hermione jumped a little and turned to see Ginny standing behind her, in her lovely dress of lavender. She was holding something behind her back.

"Ginny, what are you holding?"

Ginny smiled. "Something for you to wear."

She pulled her hand out from behind her back to reveal a cluster of blue flowers that had been make into a pin to hold up Hermione's hair. Hermione gasped at the sight of it, for it had been the thing she was missing. Something simple, to remind her that this wasn't all about elaborate dresses, jewels, and fancy shoes. It was more than that.

"Oh, Ginny, thank you so much!"

"No trouble at all. Turn around, and I'll fix it in for you."

So Hermione turned and let Ginny carefully pin the flowers into her hair. She wasn't going to wear a veil, so there would be no trouble with Ginny's gift at all.

"Thank you, Ginny," said Hermione again. "You gave me just what I needed."

Ginny smiled. "Come on," she said. "Everyone's waiting for you."

Cheers erupted as Hermione walked back down the aisle, arm in arm with Ron. She picked out certain faces from the crowd. Professor McGonagall, now Headmistress, was smiling, though her eyes were bright. Hagrid was sobbing into his handkerchief, the size of a large quilt. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley were both beaming with pride at their son and his new wife.

Hermione Weasley reached up to her hair and gently brushed the flowers. She'd found it all today. There had been fights, and there would be more. There had been misunderstandings and tears. But there had also been laughter, happiness, and a lot of love. Hermione got some of each over the next years. But she still held on to this day, the help that she'd gotten from a friend, and her small but meaningful something blue.

a/n: There you have it, people. Anyone expecting pineapple ninjas, sorry you didn't get them yet. I promise they're on the way. If you would be so kind as to review, that would be lovely!
