Chapter 25

Klaus was true to his word, driving Caroline back to the compound but Sophie was there, watching all of this.

"He's waiting for you both." She said but she sounded like she was withholding something important. Caroline didn't care but as soon as Klaus walked into the office, he closed it and took ahold of Caroline's arms.

"I want you to go back to the car." He didn't want her to see Marcel with some exotic beauty, a vampire he guessed.

She raised an eyebrow. "Is he busy with some girl?" She asked, her voice full of venom.

He nodded. She walked passed him and into the office where she grabbed a knife and threw it at the girl, hitting her in the back near her heart.

"I hope you both go enjoy Hell." She said simply and coldly before leaving. Klaus stared at them and shook his head.

"I have a feeling that when Elena finds out, you're both dead." He told them before he followed Caroline.

They didn't say anything as they made their way back to the house.

Elena was in the living room, straddling Elijah's lap, kissing him and allowing her fingers to move over his chest when the door opened but they didn't pay any mind to it.

"He's with Gia." Caroline said and Elena pulled away from Elijah, much to his displeasure.

"Elijah," she asked softly. "Wanna help me kill Marcel and Gia?"

"Who is Gia?" Elijah asked.

"Some black haired vampire that Marcel changed." Caroline waved her hand dismissively.

"She and Marcel had history together-like he and Sophie did." Elena added, her eyes hard.

"If Elijah is too soft to kill him then I certainly will," Klaus growled.

"I'm not in the habit of going around and killing everyone who has wronged one of you in love. My list is quite long already. Had I murdered everyone that broke Rebekah's heart it would be twice that length. Not to mention he did Caroline a favor by showing his true colors. If it is truly what the ladies desire then it will take all three of us. Marcel is too afraid of us to ever be alone."

"That's why you all have me." Elena said as she fixed her shirt. "I can get rid of everyone who will be inside the compound, you three kill them."

Elijah ran a hand through his hair as he watched Elena and Klaus stare at him.

"Tell Kol and Bonnie. We're putting an end to this," Elijah said. His eyes went dark as he stared at Klaus. "Nicklaus if you pull back at the last moment and cite family Kol and I will make you pay for it. If you have doubts voice them now."

"Now why would I cite family when he betrayed me brother?" Klaus asked as he pulled out the trunk and lifted the top off, showing all the weapons they had in there.

Elena grinned and pulled out the cross bow.

"Now let's go have some fun." She said with childlike glee on her face.

"Okay I like you even more now," Kol grinned as he entered the room with Bonnie.

"My weapon is built in," Bonnie said.

"I prefer to work with my hands," Kol grinned maniacally. "Let's do this!"

The group made their way to the compound and found the courtyard full of vampires.

"Is this an apology?" Caroline sneered.

"In a way," Marcel admitted to her. "Caroline, I'm so sorry about what you witnessed...do you think you can forgive me?"

"Hmmmm...of course not." She said with a flick of her hair.

As one by one, each vampire in the courtyard of the compound attacked, they were all destroyed in seconds-either by Elena shooting them in the heart with stakes, Elijah beheading and ripping out their hearts, Kol tearing them apart, Bonnie's magic and Klaus ripping into them.

There wasn't a single survivor of the compound massacre except for the Originals and the girls who were with them.

"Are you alright?" Klaus asked Caroline as he was pulling the last wood splinters out of his shoulder. Kol and Bonnie had already started stacking bodies in the middle of the courtyard.

"Shall we make a party of it?" Elijah raised a brow, "I'm sure Klaus could make an alcohol run."

"Get some Benedictine this time to go with the brandy," Elena fussed.

"I just want scotch," Bonnie said. She couldn't get enough of kissing Kol when she smelled it on his breath.

Klaus did the drink run and had brought everyone else to the bonfire in the courtyard. Rebekah wasn't in a party mood but the others were.

VVVV

The female Original was hormonal, angry and sad all rolled into one.

In her mind, Nik ruined her life and now that she was pregnant, he wasn't going to let her leave New Orleans.

She had a plan and so far, she was going to make it work.

Caroline was on her second bottle of alcohol already in an effort to deal with her actions. She had cared for Marcel and made friends with some of the others and now she was basking in the warmth created by their corpses.

"Alcohol isn't really the answer," Bonnie tried.

"Shut-up and give me that!" Caroline growled snatching the bottle from Bonnie's hands. Suddenly Bonnie had Caroline up against a wall her eyes black as night with anger. As the originals stared on in disbelief Caroline broke Bonnie's arm, leg and some ribs while Bonnie broke Caroline's jaw, hand, foot and several ribs before Kol snapped both their necks.

Elena picked up Caroline's corpse and took her upstairs, setting her bones and waiting for her to wake up when Rebekah came in. She saw them and huffed at them in anger .

"Oh get over yourself Barbie Klaus." Elena bit out viciously. "I'm tired of dealing with you and your whining."

Rebekah stormed over to her and broke not just half of her bones, but snapped her neck. She ended up dragging the brunette to a room full of vervain.

"Well that was interesting," Elijah observed.

"I've never seen Bonnie react like that," Kol was dumbfounded.

"That was the best entertainment I've had in a while," Klaus grinned before he took another long drink of scotch.

Stefan knew that Caroline was going to be needing support and from someone who has shut it off, he felt like he should be the one who helped her through this.

Leaving the men, he walked up to see Caroline coming out of the room and he knew that Elena was with her. Flashing to stand in front of her, he asked, "Caroline, do you know where Elena is?"

"I thought she'd be with everyone else downstairs." Caroline rolled her eyes. "It's not like-" she started but Stefan shook his head.

"She brought you up here and was waiting for you to wake to talk to you." He told her. She took a quick sniff and snarled.

"The vervain room." She flashed there and saw Elena, beaten and with a broken neck, tied up in vervain.

"Don't Caroline," Stefan stopped her, "I'm older and a little more resistant. Plus if I fail you'll need to show the others how to get here." Stefan hurried and tried to pull Elena from the room but found she was tied to the wall. He started on the rope hissing as it burnt his skin. He got about a third of the way done before he succumbed and was incapacitated.

VVVV

Everyone was getting worried when they heard Caroline's screams but that worry was intensified as she reached them and announced, "Elena and Stefan are in the vervain room! Follow me!"

Each one did and when they saw Elena was almost dead, Elijah flashed in there and just ripped off the chains and ropes holding her before leaving as Klaus carried Stefan out.

"What happened Caroline?" Bonnie asked with a subtle demand in her voice.

"I woke up and came into the hallway, Stefan asked if I'd seen Elena and I thought she was still downstairs with you all and when he told me that she carried me up here and was waiting for me to wake up, I took a sniff and knew that it had to be in the vervain room-it's the closest room imaginable-and told him. He tried saving her but told me to tell you all where they were." She said in one breath.

Kol and Bonnie thought and went to go check on Rebekah, who was fast asleep. What they didn't know was that she was faking her sleepiness.

Even if her brothers and Stefan hate her, she'll get rid of the girls, no matter what.

"Is it possible we missed someone?" Bonnie worried.

"Bekah's safe," Kol announced with relief.

"How's Elena?" Bonnie asked Elijah her voice filled with worry.

"She's going to be okay," Elijah said and the relief in his voice was felt by all.

"Let's get them home where they're safe," Kol said. The pile of ashes was almost completely burnt out and Bonnie did a quick spell to hide it from any prying eyes. Then everyone made their way back to the mansion.

"Did you see anyone else?" Klaus asked Caroline who shook her head.

"It must have happened when I was out cold." She told him.

VVVV

Elijah sat by Elena's bedside, just hoping and praying that she'd come back to him. He just got her back and now he was afraid that he'd lose her again.

He was willing to be selfless once, when he didn't have her and he was willing to let her be happy with someone else but now...he couldn't.

"Just come back to me," he pleaded as he watched her chest rise and fall slower than a vampire's. "I love you." He said, emphasizing that it was her that he loved.

Not the others that wore her face but her.

Bonnie arrived a while later with a warm bowl and a cloth.

"This is a potion from one of your mother's grimoires," Bonnie announced. "It's supposed to remove the poison from vervain; kind of like treating a sunburn or a jellyfish sting." She soaked the cloth and placed it on Elena's forehead.

The second the cloth touched her forehead, Elena began to whimper out in pain. Elijah was holding her hand, rubbing circles over the back of it and just soothing her with his voice.

"It's going to be okay Elena...I promise, it's going to be okay..." his words gave her hope that it would be okay and she managed to squeeze a bit.

"Can you numb the pain?" She whimpered and Elijah shook his head.

"The only way would be to compel you but I don't want to do that." He said and made a move to be in the bed with her. Sliding in behind her, he had her back pressed to his front and he was soothing her.

"You need to keep changing the cloth every five minutes Elijah," Bonnie said, "even if she's in pain. I'm so sorry Elena."

"Any idea who did this?" Bonnie asked Caroline as she came from Elena's room and closed the door behind her. "They're not taking any visitors right now."

"It wasn't one of us," Caroline said as she saw Bonnie opened her mouth. "Rebekah was asleep but I did smell her perfume in my room."

"She was probably making sure you were okay." Jeremy said as he watched the door that held his sister and Elijah.

"Not necessarily..." Davina began. "She could have been fake sleeping-I've done it enough times in my English class whenever we're told to read and I fake sleep through the book." She would have turned scarlet but didn't have it in her to do so. "She could have done the same thing."

That was a possibility they weren't serious about.

Rebekah was tugging on her pretty maternity dress-that was all in white with a red trim-when Klaus and Kol walked in.

"Did you have a hand in hurting Elena and Stefan?" Kol asked.

Rebekah paled. "Is Stefan alright?" she asked, worried.

"He will heal but that doesn't answer Kol's question." Klaus said as he stared at her. "Did you have a hand in hurting Elena-and by default Stefan?"

She shook her head at him.

"I didn't." That was a lie. She had every intention of hurting all three Mystic Falls girls but when she went to get two, Stefan was there and she had to fake sleep.

She didn't believe that he would be hurt when he was in the vervain room.

Klaus may have bought her routine but Kol knew Rebekah better than any of the rest of them. He knew her tells when she was lying and she just used three of them. Keeping his suspicions to himself his face remained impassive as Rebekah continued.

"I can't believe you would ask me that, that you would accuse me of hurting my family; the father of my child," Rebekah said with convincing aplomb.

"I'm sorry Bekah," Klaus pulled her into his arms. "We're just trying to figure out who could be behind it. I could never live with myself if something happened to you."

While Rebekah was eating Klaus' attention up Kol left the room. Rebekah was up to something. Thank goodness his connection to Bonnie was strong.

VVVV

"We just need to wait for Elena to wake up and tell us who it was." Kol sighed as he threw himself onto the couch. "Do you know how long they have to be like that?" He asked Bonnie.

The vampire witch was too busy eating a plum until she swallowed. Her eyes were on his instantly.

"You still believe that Rebekah had a hand in it?" she asked.

"I do."

"With that much vervain I'd imagine at least two hours even given vampire healing speed," Bonnie frowned. "If Rebekah did this to her so help me..." Bonnie began to vamp out and Kol pulled her to him with a grin.

"You definitely have my blood in you little witch. That lethal gene is rather a turn on," He kissed her quickly. "Just watch yourself and the other girls please. I don't know what Rebekah is playing at but if anything happens to you..."

"Kol don't do anything crazy. If they daggered you I wouldn't know how to go on..." Bonnie worried. She buried her head against his chest and he held her lovingly.

"Elijah would have that out of me and once the baby is out of Rebekah," Kol said warmly as he soothed her. "He'll stick it in her chest." He shook his head. "As much as he loves her, she had daggered him four times and it took me a while to figure out where she hid him."

"I always thought Klaus was the one with the dagger threats." Bonnie mused.

"She picked it up from him but one time I found him in his coffin," he was grimacing. "She had it in the pool out back."

She could imagine how furious Elijah was and he nodded.

"Ninety years later, though he's protective of her, he will put a dagger in her if she dares to so much as dagger me."

"Just be careful Kol," Bonnie cautioned. "I worry that she will try to turn Elijah against you. I love you and I can't be without you darling." He smiled as her words were everything to him.

VVVVVVV

"'Lijah..." she whimpered softly.

It broke his heart and he whispered, "I'm right here Elena. Is there anything you need?"

"Blood." He nodded and was going to get it when she whispered, "Rebekah's nowhere near me, is she?"

"No...lovely, are you saying that she did this?" his voice grew a smudge bit colder.

"She did." She whimpered out. Rebekah was going to hear it from him when Elena was feeling better.

If it were up to him, he would disown her instantly, all because she couldn't handle the thought of Elena being his mate.

"I want you to show me." He said as he needed to see what she did to her.

She focused on it as much as she could and he watched it with fury coating his eyes.

There was a gentle knock hours later and Kol opened the door. He was carrying another warm bowl of potion and walking rather carefully. That was when Elijah realized his eyes were closed.

"Don't worry I can't see a thing and you don't want to know what Bonnie threatened to do to me if I embarrassed either of you. She really knows how to take the fun out of...OW! Hey I'm still carrying this!" Kol said and he was grateful when Elijah liberated the bowl and set it on the nightstand. "How are you feeling Elena?"

"Please tell Bonnie the potion is working wonderfully and I am very grateful," Elijah said.

"I will," Kol said he then lowered his voice to where only Elijah and Elena could hear. "Elijah I've put one of my charms over the door so that no one can enter except me, you, Elena, Caroline and Stefan when Bonnie is in there alone. I'm afraid Rebekah is behind this, Elijah."

"Elena just confirmed it for me." He sighed as he saw her sleep again, after he gave her his blood to drink. She looked so weak and he knew that she was still in pain. "She woke up, asked for blood and told me that Rebekah did it."

Kol looked and asked, "did you see what Rebekah did?" Elijah nodded.

"I asked her to show me and she showed me from the time she moved Caroline over to the room up to when Rebekah snapped her neck." He wanted to break something but had to keep in his anger. "I want you to ask her-with a hypothetical question-why she would do something like this."

"You have my word Elijah."
