Chapter 28
Elijah stayed with Kol all night. The next night Kol felt confident enough to stay with Bonnie and he slept with her curled in his arms. She had a good day and she hadn't been ill all day. In addition to the normal fluids and jello she had been taking to keep her digestive track working today she had wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. Kol had made her one and smiled promisingly when she ate it. The next day she had a whole meal and kept that down.
"They're past the thirteen week mark," Elijah smiled confidently, "the second trimester usually brings an end to sickness and the start of putting on baby weight."
"That's good." Elena said looking up at him. "That's very good." She looked down at her barely seen bump. "Pretty soon everyone will know."
He nodded. "Indeed they will." He kissed her and smiled as she moaned his name a bit.
Bonnie got her IV removed the next day and began to be allowed out of bed for bits of a time. She was ravenously hungry and Elijah told Kol to let her have as much as she wanted. Within two weeks she had gained back the weight she had lost and though she was still more than skinny in other areas she now had a little thickening at what used to be her waistline. She now had a small baby bump. She raised her shirt to study the change in front of her full-length mirror.
"Just seeing that makes me happy and I know your friends feel the same thing." Kol said to her warmly. He crossed over to her and placed his hands on her bump.
"I'm so sorry I worried you so bad. It wasn't supposed to be like that," Bonnie said.
"I know darling," Kol said gently.
Over the next week as Bonnie's bump began to grow larger she began to have balance issues. She felt increasingly clumsy but Kol was by her side every second to help her. While it annoyed Bonnie, her two friends thought it was adorable.
A month later at twenty weeks along in their pregnancies there was no way either girl could hide their condition. They were now obviously pregnant. Bonnie's struggle with the first trimester seemed a distant nightmare as her bump grew larger than Elena's.
Davina smiled as she watched Bonnie pause her morning yoga routine as there was a flurry of movement within her. She hurried to Bonnie's side to make sure she was steady. As she touched Bonnie's baby bump she gasped.
"Oh my god," she half whispered and then she couldn't seem to stop laughing, crying and shouting, "two! Twins! There's two! You're carrying twins!"
"Twins?" Bonnie marveled in utter disbelief. Davina's yelling had brought Kol, Elijah and Jeremy in a flash while Elena followed at a slower human pace. Bonnie was still in shock so Davina turned to look at all of them.
"She's carrying twins. When I touched her baby bump to make sure she was steady I felt them; both of them."
Bonnie looked completely shocked.
Elena started giggling at Kol's face. "Wait 'til Caroline hears this!" The brunette said, with the giggles in between each word.
"Well done brother, there are two of you coming into the world." Elijah said, clapping his back.
"Do you want to know what you're having Elena?" Davina asked her.
Elena and Elijah looked at each other with intense filled glances before nodding.
"We do." Elijah told her.
Davina placed her hand on Elena's bump and smiled.
"Only one child and it's a boy!" Davina squealed.
"Well what are we having?" Kol asked with impatient excitement.
"The best of both worlds, one of each," Davina said.
"I need to sit down," Bonnie urged as the shock truly hit her. Elijah and Kol quickly helped her to a chair. She looked to Kol and smiled tenderly, "we're having twins."
"Caroline!" Elena called and Caroline finally appeared looking tired and a little piqued.
"What Elena?" She yawned as she came down to the courtyard.
"Bonnie is having twins! A boy and a girl!" Elena exclaimed.
"OMG Bonnie!" Caroline squealed. "I'm so happy for you!"
"Elena's having a son." Bonnie said to the squealing blonde.
Caroline continued squealing and hugged them both.
"How do I get a hug like that?" Klaus smiled as he came through the archway. "I hear congratulations are in order brothers. Bonnie, Elena you both look radiant."
Each brother looked at him in surprise.
"Relax Brothers, I have no desire to hurt your families. They are my family too. To that end I thought you might appreciate it Elijah if I brought Rebekah here so you could use one of the guest rooms. She appears to be in labor." About that time the others noticed Stefan helping a very slow-moving Rebekah along. She was all baby bump these days.
"Rebekah's in labor," Elena worried, "Elijah you have to help her!"
He nodded and escorted her to one of the rooms. Elena didn't go into said room but into hers and Elijah's. She looked into the nesting box and saw five baby birds as well as their momma bird.
"Are they friendly?" She turned to see Klaus there, staring at the cage.
"Usually but not at this moment." She smiled. "Aqua's eggs hatched and they're really protective."
"How long does it take? For the eggs to hatch?"
"They hatch after eighteen days." She told him.
Klaus walked over to stand by Elena. After a moment he looked askance.
"You still don't trust me," he stated it as fact, "Elena I only want what my brothers have but not in the way you envision. I want Caroline to give me a child. I want her face to light with joy when she sees me. I see the emotions in your eyes when you look at my brother. Is it wrong for me to desire the same?"
"It's not," she conceded. "She's already dealing with Marcel's betrayed and the whole bit between you and Hayley alongside Damon and Katherine killing her mother." Elena told him. "She's hurt and I don't want her to be hurt anymore."
"I don't want her to hurt anymore either," Klaus said sincerely. "I miss that beautiful fire, the spark inside her, the passion for life. I saw the envy she was trying to hide just now as she looked at the two of you."
"Give her a reason to trust and believe in you again." Elena told him as she moved around the room, making sure that everything was in place before turning on the jazz music. "They like jazz music." She said with a flushing face.
Wordlessly Klaus pulled her into a dance form and began to move her gracefully around the room.
"There's a lot to like about jazz," he smiled. "It's a rhythm that speaks to the heart and soul. I like the yearning tones of a well-played trumpet myself. Elijah and Kol have always preferred the piano. You have natural rhythm. This isn't too much for you is it?" He finished gently.
"This is...actually nice." She smiled at him. "This was really fun."
"Thank you, now shall we check on Elijah?" He offered. Elijah was sitting on the end of the bed while Stefan held Rebekah at the head. The blonde original was breathing rather heavy and a moment later a contraction seized her.
"Bekah I'm going to get you through this, I promise," Elijah said. He checked under the sheet. In a thousand years the knowledge had not faded. "You're not far enough along to start pushing yet. Just breathe through the pains and squeeze Stefan's hand."
"What do you bloody well think I've been doing?" The question ripped through her when another contraction hit her. "Just get her out of me!" She screamed.
"Bekah," Stefan said gently. "I know you don't feel well right now but let Elijah help you and in a few hours you'll be holding your daughter Rebekah. You can do this."
"How is she doing?" Kol asked as he entered the room a couple of hours later.
"She's about halfway dilated," Elijah replied. Kol sat up at the head of the bed facing Rebekah and gently wiped her brow.
"I can't believe you're about to be a mother soon. You wanted it for so long and I wanted to give it to you; we all did. I'm really proud of you Bekah. You've done such a good job with this pregnancy. You're going to be a wonderful mom."
She smiled at him. "Thanks for having such faith in me Kol." He kissed her forehead and wiped off the sweat.
"You can do this Bekah, you can do this." He coaxed.
Three hours later Stefan was feeding Bekah some of his blood when Bonnie came in.
"How are you doing Rebekah?" Bonnie asked gently as she brought Elijah some tea and a blood bag. Kol had already gone to keep Elena company and cook everyone dinner.
"As well as can be." Rebekah groaned from where she laid on the bed.
"You're getting big," Rebekah said as she took in Bonnie's changing figure. Bonnie smiled proudly and rubbed her baby bump. She reached out and rubbed Rebekah's baby bump.
"You don't have much longer," Bonnie said. She stayed until Kol called dinner. She was starving but found that she got fuller faster than she thought she would. An hour later she was hungry again.
"I'm starving but I can't seem to eat much. Then an hour later I'm hungry again," Bonnie sighed.
"That's because we're starting to get crowded in there," Elena grinned as she rubbed her baby bump.
Finally about eleven that night Elijah did another check.
"Okay sister it's time to bring your daughter into the world," Elijah smiled. Stefan smiled and got into position to help her.
"I need you to push at human pace, remember that the child is human and delicate." Elijah warned her.
Rebekah pursed her lips but agreed.
Rebekah was so careful trying to push gently. Bonnie returned to the room and an idea occurred to her.
"Here Rebekah, this might help," Bonnie said. Suddenly Rebekah could feel a clear threshold of human strength. She pushed to the limit but not over.
"That's it Bekah," Elijah smiled, "you're doing it." Kol appeared then and sat next to Elijah.
"Can you teach me brother? If we're going to bring children into the world maybe more than you should know," Kol requested.
"I'll do my best at teaching you what I know." Elijah said to him.
Elijah began to explain what he knew to Kol. He laughed as Kol freaked out the first time he saw the baby's head crowning. He rallied well enough though and Elijah guided him as Rebekah's labor progressed. Finally Elijah offered the honor to Kol but he bowed out and Elijah was the first one to hold the new Mikaelson that was brought into the world. Kol and Elijah couldn't stop smiling as they beheld the baby girl. Then Elijah carefully passed the baby into Rebekah's arms.
