Chapter 50

Over the next week Christopher grew stronger and came off the oxygen and finally out of the warmer. Over the next two months he grew by leaps and bounds. So did Bonnie and Elena as they were now 37 weeks along. Caroline was 27 weeks along and getting large. Her bump had grown dramatically in the last month.

Lilly was almost four months old now and Stefan had her out for some morning sunshine when she looked up at him.

"Da Da Da Da Da," she cooed as she wiggled her arms and legs. Stefan and Rebekah were staring at their daughter who was still moving her feet and fingers happily.

"She said Da Da!" Stefan shouted happily.

This caused a great assemblage of vampires. Everyone was excited. A few minutes later she did it again and there was plenty of cheering and celebrating. Lilly was happy to celebrate along with them even if she had no idea what was going on. Christopher was just happy to be out in the sunshine for a little bit. Bonnie rubbed her back and shifted her stance again.

She had been hurting since the middle of the night but she was used to a little pain by now. By the afternoon she was headed back up to their suite when she looked alarmed.

"Kol, oh my I think the baby's coming. I mean I think the babies are coming right now!" Kol indulged her by carrying her up to the bed. He settled her and then lifted her dress and got the shock of his life. He could see the head already! Bonnie was having easy labor.

"ELIJAH COME HERE AND HELP ME! SHE'S ALREADY IN LABOR!" Kol's panicked shouting got Elijah and Elena up there along with the others.

"She's only thirty-seven weeks!" Elena worried.

"It's fine Elena. Twins normally come early," Bonnie said.

"Alright let's see what you've learned, Kol," Elijah said. "I'm just here in case you need me. This is your show." Within a matter of minutes Kol was utterly amazed as his son slipped into his waiting hands. He was smaller than Christopher had been when he was born. Bonnie was having an amazingly easy labor.

"Well how is he?" Bonnie asked.

"Perfect." Kol said with a dazed expression.

"Smaller than Christopher." Elena supplied.

"Kol you can't just stare at him," Elijah urged. Kol sprang into motion then.

"Caroline I need a blanket. Elena the damp cloth," Kol ordered as he tied and clamped the cord before cutting it. Then they carefully cleaned the baby before Caroline wrapped him snuggly and he was passed into Bonnie's waiting arms.

"He's perfect Kol, thank you. I love you so much," Bonnie said as happy tears slipped down her cheeks. The emotional family reunion was cut short when Kol's daughter began to try and make her appearance into the world.

"Uh, Elijah," Kol frowned. Something didn't look right.

"A lot of times with twins they can't both get head down. You're looking at her bottom Kol," Elijah supplied.

"Bonnie I need you to push for me." Kol said to her.

"Okay now you're going to need to reach in and tuck those little legs in Kol," Elijah coached. Kol carefully did as he was instructed while Bonnie pushed. She finally seemed to be in some pain but she was managing it beautifully. Kol helped guide the baby forward with each push. Finally he was able to rotate the shoulders into position and with a couple more pushes his daughter came into the world. Elena and Caroline quickly stepped into position to help Kol. A few minutes later everyone looked on as Kol was tucked behind Bonnie and helping her hold both their children.

"Kol I could not love you more at this moment," Bonnie said tenderly.

"This is such a beautiful moment!" Elena said with tears in her eyes.

"I know!" Caroline cried.

"Shouldn't you put them in the warmer?" Rebekah worried.

"I'm going to." Kol said as he stared at his daughter who was nestled in his arms.

Once the two babies were nestled in the warmer Bonnie had fallen asleep for an afternoon nap.

"I want to have my baby that easily," Elena remarked as they left.

"It's different for each mother." Elijah told her lovingly. "It could be that easy for you or it could be extremely difficult."

"Thanks for the reassurance Elijah," Elena sighed as her anxiety grew further. Now that her time was drawing closer she was scared of having this baby. He just scooped her into his arms and carried her back into their room, kissing her forehead. Jeremy walked in and sat next to his sister.

"I can't wait to see this little guy." He said as he felt the baby kick him.

"I'm thinking about staying pregnant for another year or two," Elena replied. "I can't do this. Pregnancy is easy but I can't...not after Katherine."

"Katerina didn't have the proper care for her first pregnancy." Elijah soothed. "That's why she was having problems with this one. I promise you that you will be fine." Elena curled into his chest and wept. Jeremy had no idea what to do but Elijah made a motion to leave so he could calm Elena down. The second he left, Elijah was rubbing her back.

"Everything will be okay my lovely wife." He hummed to her.

"I can't Elijah. I don't want to go into labor. I don't want to have this baby."

He just held her as she spoke. He knew that she was afraid of something bad happening to her or their son.

"I'll be with you every step of the way. Nothing bad will happen to you and to our son. I swear it lovely." He said with a kiss to her lips. After a while she dried her tears but the tempest had worn her out and it was nap time. As she napped, Elijah just held her, wanting to comfort her.

Elena's due date came and went without a new arrival. In a way she was relieved but she still knew it was coming. Two days later on a decidedly chilly October day Elena was helping Bonnie with the twins when she frowned for a third time. Bonnie put Nathaniel Kol Mikaelson back in his bassinet and gathered Carolena Sheila Mikaelson from Elena's arms to lay her with her brother.

"Okay, up you come," Bonnie said gently as she helped Elena to her feet.

"I just can't get comfortable," Elena fussed.

"Come on, they're sound asleep anyhow let's go to your room," Bonnie said gently. When they reached the room Bonnie helped her onto the bed. She sat with her for a long time just talking until Elijah walked into the room.

"Right on time, let's have a baby," Bonnie smiled. Elena looked at her with shock.

"Sweetie you've been in labor for hours now. You're probably close to having that baby," Bonnie replied.

"What?" She sounded scared. "Are-I WILL KILL YOU ELIJAH MIKAELSON!" She screamed out from the pain.

"Is this normal?" Caroline squeaked.

"In most cases." Klaus said snickering at his paling older brother. "I'm quite surprised that Bonnie and Katerina didn't say anything like that."

"I had an easy labor," Bonnie smiled at Kol from where Elena was squeezing the life out of her hand. "Just breathe Elena. You were doing fine before I told you that you were in labor."

"I want Bonnie's labor," Caroline decided before she gasped as Klaus' child kicked her several times. "I would trade places with you right now."

"No you wouldn't," Elena groaned.

"Sweetheart just push for me." Elijah said softly.

"What do you think I'm doing?" She asked in a snappy voice.

"You're yelling at an original," Bonnie clarified, "the one you happen to be in love with which is how you wound up in the position you currently find yourself in."

"My turn for bottle duty," Rebekah said as they heard one of the baby monitors go off.

Elena was breathing in and out, the same way that she learned a while ago. The pain was unbelievable but she kept pushing when Elijah said to.

"You're doing great lovely." Elijah soothed her.

"Come on 'Lena, you can do this," Bonnie encouraged where she still held her hand. Caroline gave her a few more ice chips. "How's it looking, Elijah? Darling?"

"It's looking great." Kol said as Elijah was getting ready to grab him. "Caroline-get blankets." Caroline grabbed the plain blanket and the cloth to clean him passing them to Kol who was assisting his brother. Kol smiled as Elijah's hands were trembling as he caught his son.

"You're a father Elijah," Kol whispered proudly. They had both leaned in to clean the baby up when Elijah's newborn son decided to pee on both his father and uncle. "Well the plumbing works."

"Can I hold him?" Elena asked once she let go of Bonnie's hand and Bonnie stacked pillows up behind her. Kol passed the baby from his brother to his mother and she smiled at him. "Welcome to the world Henrik Elijah." She cooed to him before looking up at her husband who was smiling. "You do know that I didn't mean any of what I said to you, right? I love you and I won't kill you." She had a smile on her face as she spoke. The baby reached his little hand up and she smiled.

"I don't know Elijah...it sounded like a credible threat to me," Bonnie teased. Elijah gulped as he stared at his wife but seeing how happy and the way she was staring at him, he had a feeling that threat was just caused by the intense pain she had gone through. Going over to her, he kissed her sweaty forehead lovingly and kissed his son's as well.

In this moment in time, he was happy.

"Congratulations, another prince is born," Caroline smiled.

"Congratulations Elijah," Kol said patting his brother on the shoulder.

"He's perfect Elijah," Klaus smiled.

"He's more than perfect." Elijah marveled as he took in the sight of his wife and son.
