Chapter 52
"Just breathe through the contractions," Kol coached. They went through this for a while and then Kol checked her again. "Okay let's have this baby. Caroline you can start pushing." She was pushing, screaming obscenities at Klaus before the room was filled with the cries of a newborn baby.
"Nik just to be on the safe side you'd better give him a little of your blood; just to make sure there's no reaction," Kol said as Klaus stared in wonder at his newborn son.
"Caroline he's perfect," Klaus smiled. Elena brought a dropper so they could get the blood into the infant. Caroline and Klaus both were beaming.
"I guess one of us needs to volunteer to make food. I don't suppose there's a Chinese restaurant still up and running? I want hot and sour soup," Bonnie said.
"Oh that does sound so good," Elena moaned.
Stefan smiled at them. He grabbed a jacket and his car keys.
"Tell me what everyone wants and I'll get it for dinner." He said to everyone.
"Good luck who knows how far you'll have to go before you find someone with electricity," Elena sighed. Just in case everyone optimistically wrote down their dinner orders and sent them with Stefan.
Once Stefan left, Katherine looked at Elena.
"I haven't seen Jeremy and Davina in a while."
Elena laughed.
"They're in Mystic Falls, getting their diplomas before they come back here and plan to leave again for Denver." Elena told her.
"Art school?" Bonnie asked and Elena nodded.
"They're still going to visit for the major holidays and birthdays." She added.
"I'm glad they found each other. Do you think they'll be okay on their own? Two young vampires?" Caroline worried.
"They'll be just fine, not to mention we're only a phone call away," Elijah said.
"They'll be okay Care." Elena soothed her. "Besides, from what I know, they have a place to stay and an abundance of blood bags."
"It's not easy on your own," Caroline said. "When I tried to do it by myself I was really afraid and it was hard to come by supplies. Not like Bonnie her who had a house full of originals to help her." Bonnie smiled and Kol wrapped his arms around her tenderly.
"It's why we're going to be going with them." Damon said. "Jeremy's like a brother to me so I want to help them out." Katherine could only agree with him as the little Gilbert grew on her.
"You're leaving us?" Elena looked to Katherine. They had gotten close and she didn't want to lose a friend.
"Just for a while Elena," Katherine told her. "Maybe like a month or two-just to help them with living on their own."
"Wow that's really thoughtful of you both," Elena smiled at them. "It means a lot to me."
"It took a little while but I found an operating Chinese restaurant," Stefan said as he entered with two big boxes packed with little takeaway containers.
Katherine smiled at her and thanked Stefan for the food.
"Stefan...I'm going to be leaving for a while to help Jeremy and Davina out." Damon told him.
"I'm going to really miss you brother. Take care of my nephew and Katherine," Stefan said with a smile, "and stay out of trouble..."
"I will brother." Damon said as he clapped him on the back. "Besides, we're only going to be gone for a month or two."
It took a week for the storm to clear and then everyone was bidding farewell to Katherine, Damon, Christopher, Jeremy and Davina. Elena watched the car drive away long after she could no longer see it.
"They will be alright my love." Elijah whispered to Elena as she had Henrik in her arms. "I promise that they will be safe."
"I know and I know that he's grown up a lot but I still worry." She whispered, talking more about Jeremy.
"Come on Elena," Caroline called, "you have a baby to worry about too. Who knows maybe by the next time we see Davina and Jeremy she'll be ready to make you an aunt."
Elena laughed at the blonde. She was back to being her usual self and the bouncing baby boy in her arms just reinforced that happiness she had.
"I will and how's my little nephew doing?" She asked as she cooed at the baby. Caroline smiled at her.
"He's got his daddy all wrapped around his finger already." The blonde said. "When it comes to babies and children, the big bad Hybrid is as soft as a warm, fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie."
"Good so he'll be ready for number two when we eventually get around to it," Elena smiled. They walked back to the kitchen where everyone was working on dinner and Caroline plopped her son inside the play fence with the others.
Elena smiled as she placed him in there and watched as he stood up on shaky legs and went to grab the keys. He turned a pleased smile to his mother and walked over to her with the keys in his hands.
"I'm so proud of you baby." She cooed and kissed him on the top of his head. "So very proud of you." Bonnie and Kol's twins were sitting up on their own and Carolena was trying so hard to crawl. She was getting close.
"Darling-dinner time." Kol said as he watched Carolena with a smile on his face. She nodded but didn't take her eyes off her daughter and son.
"Elena, he will be fine." Elijah told her as he led her to the table. "You can still watch him." Elena smiled at him.
"I know." She sighed.
Caroline had a harder time getting Klaus to the table.
"It's all going to be fine-he's going to be fine." She told him.
"What if he gets hurt?" Klaus asked.
"Right here with all of us in the room?" Bonnie replied. "Not to mention I pricked him to do his blood work the other day and he healed right up. Their healing ability already works."
"Told you he was as soft as a fresh cookie that just came out of the oven," Caroline whispered to Elena. "Just imagine if we had a daughter instead of a son."
"That's the beauty of it all," Elena smiled as she looked to her husband, "we have nothing but time Caroline...nothing but time."
