Lindsey crouched on the stairs, peering carefully around the corner to make sure Chichi was gone. After the front door closed, she strained her ears to hear the car start. Ugh! What was taking her so long to leave?
Ever since she'd first met Gohan, she could think of little else. Training with him in the mornings before class or studying together in the afternoons. Trying to flirt without coming on too strong, when an idea hit her one day. What did they say was the fastest way to a man's heart? And she knew how much Gohan loved food. She'd offered to help Chichi cook, but Chichi kept refusing, saying that American food would make them all fat.
Well tough titty said the kitty, because Lindsey was going to cook supper tonight. Chichi was taking Goten to spend the weekend with her father. She'd left Goku strict instructions to keep an eye on the house, make sure Gohan studied, and a whole list of tedious little instructions on every blasted thing she could think of, including how to reheat the food she'd cooked for them for the weekend.
A smirk touched Lindsey's lips when she heard the car start and drive away. She waited a few more minutes just to be sure that Chichi was gone before she trotted down the stairs to the kitchen, where Goku was reading over the list Chichi had left for him. Trying to act casual, she strolled to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water, peering over at him from the corner of her eye. "Oh yum, reheated leftovers for dinner?" she asked, only a touch of sarcasm to her voice.
"I know, right?" Goku said, sticking his tongue out at the list a moment before he sighed, "I can cook fish outside over a campfire, but that's about it. Chichi would have my head if I even tried to cook. Oh man. Can you just imagine? What if I broke the mixer?" He shuddered and shook his head. "Didn't I hear you the other day asking her if you could help with dinner?"
"Yeah, I offered. But she didn't like my suggestion much," Lindsey said, hoping that maybe he'd let her take over for the night. "My Gramma has this recipe for Italian soup, it's got sausage and potatoes and bacon and onions… It's really good. Me and Jenny and Subbie make it all the time. Ours isn't quite as good as Gramma's but it's close. Chichi didn't much care for the idea." She debated for just a moment before she decided to just ask outright instead of hinting around. "I can make supper tonight if you want."
Goku's stomach growled loudly at the mention of a hot meal. To be honest, he was rather curious as to what food from a different culture would taste like. It was rather silly of Chichi to ignore that whole aspect of it if this was really about education. "Would you? I think that would be a great idea! I've never had American before! It would be a great experience for Gohan too! I mean, you are eating all of the food we normally eat!"
A brilliant smile spread across her face and she clapped her hands. "Awesome! Oh, I hope you like it," she said. "But, um, it's Italian food, not American. Though I suppose true Italians might argue over that point since Americans probably don't do the dishes justice. Anyway, that doesn't really matter." She paused for a minute, chewing her bottom lip as she debated about pushing her luck. Though Goku was so laid back and easy to get along with, she doubted if it was even possible to piss this man off. "Would it be okay if I invited Subbie and Jenny to help? Sabriena's the best cook out of the three of us. I mean, we're all pretty good at it, just… I haven't really seen them since we came here." She felt a bit of loneliness creep into her chest again, though she tried not to show it.
He chuckled at her, feeling a little giddy excitement at the prospect of trying something new. "I don't see why not! I can't imagine coming all this way with your friends and then barely even seeing them." Goku leaned back and tilted his head as he scratched at his hair. "I suppose you can call them and see what they want to do. I could even go grab them for you." He didn't see any problem with having the students over to cook together. Lindsey was an enthusiastic person and he found he rather liked her interest in the training he did.
"Yay!" she cried happily and pulled her phone out of her pocket, calling Jenny first as she started to rummage in the bottom of the refrigerator where she'd stashed some ingredients. She glanced over her shoulder at Goku as she waited for Jenny to answer. "You'll love it, I promise! And as much as you can eat, too," she said as she laid the food out on the counter. She made a shooing motion as Jenny answered the phone. "Jen! What are you doing tonight?"
Jennifer hummed as she stirred up cake batter in the Son household. "I am so glad you called. I've been having some serious homesick hunger pains as of late. I mean, the food here is good. Bulma can cook like no ones business, but damned if I didn't miss this," she said as she looked over at Lindsey who was chopping up vegetables for the soup. "Sabriena, what did you say they eat up at the Lookout? They are vegetarians?"
Sabriena didn't even attempt to hide as she rolled her eyes. "Dende is. I haven't seen Piccolo eat a thing. He says he doesn't have to. He only needs water to live. Dende eats just because he enjoys it," she said, leaning against the counter and watching the other two work. "You're holding that knife wrong," she scolded Lindsey, taking it from her and bumping the redhead aside with her hip. "So you're trying to impress a guy, huh?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow as she smirked. "What's his name again? Gohan?"
Lindsey's face went almost as red as her hair. "Hush you! More cooking, less talking," she said as she took a second knife and started slicing the small yellow potatoes.
"Mmhmm," Sabriena hummed as she tossed the onions and garlic into the big soup pot. She waved her hands over the top of it, chanting loudly, "Sausage! Onions! Chicken stock! Lindsey wants Gohan's c-"
Lindsey slapped a hand over Sabriena's mouth before she could finish. "SHHHHH!" she scolded, her face really burning hot now. "Would you shut the hell up?!" she whispered frantically. "It's not like that! Not this time."
Jennifer laughed out loud at Sabriena's spell, glancing over at them while she shook her head. "That's just as well. You know what Gramma says about casting love spells at the best of times." She winced as she remembered her own fumbled one. "To not to. He'd be all over you and from what I understand, his mom would not appreciate that."
It was Lindsey's turn to roll her eyes. She'd already told both Jenny and Sabriena way too much about the crush she had on Gohan, and about how poorly she and Chichi were getting along. "I'm amazed she didn't lock him in his room. Or make him go with her for the weekend," she muttered, turning to the potatoes again as the scent of the onions and garlic mixed with the Italian sausage and filled the room. "No love spells!" she hissed at Sabriena. "Just… make it good. I'm trying to impress him. Not brainwash him."
"You never let me have any fun," Sabriena grumbled. "Why are you acting this way? Gramma would beat your ass for acting so shy. All giggly like a middle-schooler. UGH." She pretended to gag at the sappiness of it all. She looked to Jenny. "Can you believe this shit? The hell's gotten into her?"
"Well, we can't all be as outgoing as you, bitchcakes," Jenny snickered as she finished mixing the cake and poured it off into a pan before setting it into the oven. She spared Lindsey a look then. It was true, she had been downright reserved compared to what she remembered of her friend's past conquests. Jennifer raised an eyebrow at her. "You certainly have been sporting a healthy blush on your cheeks as of late. There it is right now!"
"Oh you…" Lindsey pressed her lips thin and turned to chuck a small potato at the back of Jenny's head. She smirked when it bounced off and landed on the floor. "I never should have asked you two to come help me." But the blush on her face didn't fade. "It's different with him. He's not like Xander, or the other guys back home. He's… nice. He's sweet, and he's smart, and he doesn't treat me like I'm just a pair of tits, you know? It's just nice to be around him." She huffed and turned back to the food. "I sound like a fuckin' idiot, don't I?"
"Yeah. Yeah you do," Sabriena answered, taking the potatoes and adding them to the pot. "Just make a move on the guy. You don't have to do all this beating around the bush bullshit. Just ask him out! I mean, you guys already went dancing, didn't you? Without me I might add." She shot both her friends accusatory looks. They wouldn't live that one down anytime soon.
Jennifer frowned and gave Sabriena a sad look. "It was a spur of the moment thing! These people just drag you places. It's a trend. Not that I've had much time to go anywhere else besides school, the gravity room, and studying!" She blew a kiss back at Sabriena for the look she got in return. "Hey, if it makes you feel better, we can see about going dancing again soon. Then you can jump as many guys as you want."
"Now that sounds more like it," Sabriena said as she gave the soup a stir, then banged the spoon on the rim of the pot. "So what's this Gohan even look like? I haven't had a chance to meet him. Though I suppose if he looks anything like his dad, I can't blame you for going all gaga over him. His dad's kinda hot."
Lindsey clapped a hand to her face. "I can't take you anywhere," she muttered, wondering if it was possible for her face to actually melt off from embarrassment. "You're going to ruin this whole thing. I'm going to crawl under the table and hide before the night is over."
"If you're under the table, it's not because you're hiding," Sabriena answered, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
Jenny shook her head, picking up the squirt bottle she spied in the window sill and sprayed the water at her friend, "No! Bad Sabriena! Stop it. Stop!"
"AGH!" Sabriena cried, trying to block the water with her hands. "Don't! No! Not my hair!" She squealed and dove to hide behind Lindsey, trying to use her friend as a human shield. "It's not me that's going to be the one under the table!"
"Are you sure about that?" Lindsey deadpanned. She peered over her shoulder at the blonde hiding behind her and giggling. "I should be offended that you're using me to hide behind. I'm not THAT much bigger than you, you bitch."
"Yes you are," Sabriena snickered, then yelped when Lindsey turned and smacked her upside the head.
Lindsey huffed in an irritated sort of way and moved to put her back against the wall. "You're on your own." She chewed her lip and looked at the floor, her stomach starting to growl at the smell of the food cooking.
"Oh, don't start sulking. I'm just kidding," Sabriena said as she started to prepare the pasta. "Some guys like thicker chicks. It's not like you're fat. Maybe he's into that. If nothing else, just flaunt your tits a little more." She winked when Lindsey giggled. "Do something with that hair and you'll be good."
"Make her shut up," Lindsey begged no one in particular as she stared at the ceiling. "Fucking make her shut up."
"See Gohan, no reason to be standing out in the hallway," Goku said as he pushed the kitchen door open, smiling at the three women inside, "Oh man! That stuff smells amazing!" He rubbed at his freshly showered hair with a towel as he wandered over to the soup pot on the stove and sniffed at it, his stomach growling loudly at the delicious scent wafted up to him. "I don't understand why Chichi is so against you guys cooking, I'd have you cooking all day long. You'd think she'd like the help with how busy she is," he said as he looked over his shoulder to his son.
Gohan shrugged his shoulders, ignoring the blush on his face that had nothing to do with the washing up he had done after a day of training with his father. He wasn't certain who or what they had been talking about, and he wasn't too keen on sorting it out. Playing dumb would be the way to go. He enjoyed Lindsey at the house, she really was interested in the training he and his dad did. With classes just getting underway, he hoped that there would be more opportunities to learn from their guests. Chichi had been rather odd about the two of them studying together. He gave a small wave to the other women standing next to the redhead.
Instead of the blush, now Lindsey felt the blood drain from her face. Had Gohan heard any of that? Oh, she really was going to kill Sabriena now. She shot the blonde a look, then hurried over to the sink to wash up some of the dirtied dishes. "What is wrong with me?" she whispered under her breath. Sabriena was right about one thing - Gramma would've slapped her silly for being so self conscious and unsure of herself.
Sabriena slowly shook her head at Lindsey, then turned to look at Gohan. Biting her tongue, she tipped her head as she blatantly looked him up and down. She supposed she could see why her friend would find him attractive. And he looked like a nice enough guy, but she knew better than to assume anything. The nicest looking people could be the biggest assholes in the world. "He'll do," she shrugged and turned back towards the stove, ignoring Lindsey's groan of embarrassment. "I hope you worked some sort of magick into that cake to make her less uptight," she muttered to Jenny.
Jennifer smirked, giving Sabriena a look. "Oh you know, standard calming spell. Between that and the chocolate, she should be back to her normal outgoing self in no time," She looked down at the bowl of frosting she was whipping up, just in time to see a stray spoon leaving the bowl with a little dollop of the sweet confection upon it. She blinked at Goku as he tasted it. "Kitchen fiends!"
Gohan tilted his head to the side, a curiosity going through him. "Magick? Like magick tricks?"
A soft sigh escaped Lindsey as she shut off the water and dried her hands. It's not that she planned on not telling them about her beliefs, or what she and the other girls learned from Gramma, it was just that she wasn't planning on having this conversation yet. "No, not magic tricks," she answered, turning to look at Gohan, shaking her head a little bit as Goku tried to scrape more icing out of the bowl in Jenny's hands. "It's more than that. It's working with energy to manifest changes you want to bring about in your life." She nearly cringed, it sounded like she was reciting something from one of Gramma's books.
"It's witchcraft," Sabriena stated bluntly, bumping Lindsey aside with her hip so she could drain the pasta in the sink.
"Witchcraft?" Goku echoed, pouting at Jennifer when she pulled the bowl out of his reach and he sighed, going over to the table to sit down. He rubbed at his head and studied the women for a moment, "But I thought witches were green and they wear those pointed hats and ride around on broomsticks."
"Dad!" Gohan groaned as he rubbed at his face, feeling it burning, "Sorry. It sounds different than what we've heard. The way you describe it, it's almost as if you manipulate your own energy like we can." He held up his hand and formed a small energy ball in the middle of his palm. He looked back up at Lindsey and then the other women. "But I get the feeling the energy you use is different. Does it come from yourself?" He knew it was a lot of questions, but damn it all, if his lessons had taught him anything it was to keep asking.
"That's so cool," Lindsey breathed, staring at the ball of light in his hand. "I can't wait to learn how to do that." They'd been practicing, fighting and blocking, the right way to move her body in a fight, but she wasn't ready for energy attacks yet. But she'd seen Gohan and Goku use them and it always amazed her. She reached out to touch it, the warm light surrounding her fingers, making them tingle. Her fingers touched his palm and the light disappeared, making her jump, a startled giggle escaping her. "The energy comes both from inside and from the outside world. It depends on what you're trying to do. It's best to ground and draw energy from the earth so you don't exhaust yourself. Done that before. Almost passed out."
"The only green ones are those bastards up on the Lookout where I'm staying," Sabriena grumbled as she stirred the pots on the stove. "Well, Dende isn't so bad. But that other jackass…" She trailed off with a growl and started to ladle the soup into bowls. "Sit! Let's eat. I'm starving." She snorted at Goku as she placed the bowl in front of him. "As if I'd ever touch a broom."
Gohan felt a little jolt of excitement go through him where the redhead's hand touched his. "Good to know," he said, turning and stopping short when he saw his father with his nose an inch away from the bowl. "Heh, smells that good, huh, Dad?" He chuckled and moved to take his seat at the table. "I haven't seen you like this around Mom's cooking."
Goku leaned back in his seat, giving his son a sheepish look. "But we have her cooking all the time. You think if we save her some leftovers, she'll let these guys cook more?" He dipped his spoon into the soup and took a bite, unable to stop the soft groan that escaped at the rich, savory flavor.
"Ha! I doubt it. She won't even let me help," Lindsey said as she set a basket of breadsticks on the table and sat down next to Gohan. She normally sat across the table from him, but fuck it. Not tonight. She tore the bread in half and dunked a piece into the soup, moaning slightly as she took a bite. "So good," she whispered before she swallowed and a small laugh escaped her. "She thinks anything I cook is going to make everyone fat. American stereotype, I guess," she said with a shrug.
Gohan laughed, shaking his head as he helped himself to the bowl of pasta that Sabriena set on the table, his mouth watering as the spices on the chicken drifted up. "That would be impossible for Dad and me." He frowned and shook his head. "Maybe she's just worried she'll be tempted to eat too much." His eyes fluttered shut as he ate. "We will have to do this more often. I think I could be happy eating this for the rest of my life."
"Have you seen how tiny your mother is? I think she could eat as much as she likes without worrying about it," Lindsey said. The corner of her mouth twitched in a smile to see how much he appreciated the food. "Eat as much as you want. There's plenty." She ate for a moment, wondering if she should elaborate more about magick and witchcraft. Most people had a million questions, but Gohan and Goku had barely reacted. Or maybe they were too polite to ask, or freaked out by it. "So, um, yeah, about the witchcraft," she said, "I don't want you all thinking we're, you know, devil worshipers or something evil. It's nothing like what TV makes it out to be."
Goku paused his eating to look up at Lindsey, looking at the other two girls as well. "Why would we think that? You aren't evil." He didn't watch TV that much so he had no idea what she was talking about. "You don't harm people with it, do you?"
Lindsey shook her head. "No. Gramma has threatened us to within an inch of our lives if we do," she answered. "My grandmother is the one who taught us. We spend every summer with her, helping her with her garden and the little business she runs out of her house. Summer and fall are always busy for her. I keep telling her she needs a website, but she won't listen to me." She paused for another bite. Gods, she couldn't stop herself when it came to this meal. "She uses magick to help people. That's what she's taught us to do. Err… tries to teach us anyway."
It was Sabriena's turn to giggle. She'd never taken it too seriously. It wasn't that she didn't believe, but she just didn't have much time or patience for it. "Don't look at me," she said, sitting up straighter, smirking again. "You heard Gramma. I don't need to learn all of that. I have my own magick."
Goku's face lit up and he looked over at her. "That's right! You nearly fried Piccolo the other day! Oh man, that was great." He couldn't stop the laugh that bubbled forth as he remembered the expression he had made, "His face!" He sat up straighter and put on the sternest 'Piccolo' face he could muster before he jumped and looked spooked. He lasted about five seconds before he fell into a fit of laughter.
Lindsey and Jenny exchanged a look before Lindsey slowly turned her head to look at Sabriena. "You did what," she deadpanned.
Sabriena squeaked and sank down in her chair a bit. "I didn't mean to!" she protested. "It just… sorta… slipped…" She sat back up in her chair, suddenly defensive. "That big green bastard pushed me over the edge! And he didn't even try to save me! He was going to let me DIE." She huffed harshly through her nose. "If Goku hadn't caught me, I'd be dead right now. So yeah, I slipped. I lost my temper and lightning almost got that son of a bitch. I'm just sorry it missed." She grabbed up her glass of water, crossing her arms over her chest as she sipped it. "That fucker," she seethed.
"You almost electrocuted someone?!" Lindsey cried before she covered her face with her hands. "Oh my god." The witchcraft was enough to scare most people away. But these powers, the ones they couldn't explain, the ones they couldn't control… that was another matter entirely.
Jennifer winced and shook her head, giving her friend a look. "Regardless if you needed to learn all that, you still need to train yourself so these accidents don't happen." It did figure that Sabriena would just want to pick the laziest course of action, this time it happened to be a rather dangerous one to follow.
Gohan blinked, wondering if he was following the conversation right. "Wait, so, it sounds like there are two different kinds of magick? The spells and then this," he gestured to Sabriena with his spoon swirling in the air, "Electrical magick?" He glanced over at his dad, raising his eyebrows. "I'm studying medicine and even this is confusing to me." He blushed and looked back over to Lindsey, "Sorry. I'm trying to keep up."
"Yeah, it's sort of difficult to explain," she said, her stomach squirming a bit. She glanced at Jenny and Sabriena, wondering how much to explain, but if anyone would be understanding, she thought surely Goku and Gohan would be. Especially with all the crazy things they could do. "No one knows what it is. Not even Gramma, and she knows everything. It doesn't show up very often. It's more like when we get upset, or angry. It just sort of happens." She looked down at her food, poking a bit of kale around the bowl with her spoon. "I don't like it."
Jennifer watched as a seriousness crept onto Goku's face as he heard the sadness, saw the distress on their faces. She worked her bottom lip between her teeth for a moment before she shrugged her shoulders. "Why the hell not? We won't be over here for long. And I have to say, we couldn't be in a better bunch of fellow crazies. If anyone could help us understand this strange crap, my money would be on these guys." She looked over to Gohan, feeling Goku's gaze shift to her, "To be honest, it scares the hell out of me to lose control like that."
Goku pressed his lips thin, he knew that fear all too well. He looked back to Lindsey, "I know you guys are busy with your classes and everything, but you should think about training with Gohan and me on the weekends. It's a long day, I suppose, but I can at least try to help you get control over it!" He looked to Jenny and Sabriena, "You two are more than welcome to train with us! We'd probably start around five in the morning."
"HA!" Sabriena laughed. "Five in the morning?! Yeah right." She snorted as she wiped her mouth with a napkin. "My classes don't even start until noon or later each day. I don't do early mornings."
"I can try to squeeze in more training if you think it'll help," Lindsey said. She looked between him and Gohan. "It's not all electricity," she said, licking her lips. "With Jenny, it's water. Pipes burst or water overflows. Or it rains. Me," she sighed, "I set shit on fire." It really would be good to learn to control it better, to not slip like that when her temper got away with her. Which was more often than she cared to admit. "Jen, didn't you say you were training with your host? You're doing martial arts too, right?"
Jennifer snickered at that, "Oh yeah. I had to insinuate myself in the gravity room until he agreed. He redefines the word 'pain'." She smiled at Goku, "Thanks for the offer, but I'll keep on training with him."
"Vegeta is tough, but he's a good guy. He believes that the best defense is a strong offense." He shrugged, grinning when Jennifer already nodded and pointed to a few fading bruises on her arms she'd gotten from blocking. "Ha! Already has you in there, huh? Gosh. I wonder how your magick could be used with energy based attacks." He looked over to Lindsey, giving her an excited smile, "Guess we will have to figure that one out!"
"Yeah, you think that until I accidentally set your head on fire," she said. Still, the thought of learning how to control it made her feel hopeful. It was always in the back of her head, that she could slip, and the few people who had seen it were afraid of her for it. "You really think it could be, you know, controlled?" she asked, sounding hopeful. "It only happens when I lose control. Well, when any of us do," she said, gesturing between herself and her friends. "I'm serious about the setting your head on fire thing. It could happen."
Goku blinked at Lindsey for a moment, a slow grin spreading across his face. He glanced at Gohan who had suddenly shrunken down in his seat and made to cover his red face. He laughed and reached a hand up to his own hair, patting the dark strands. "Well, I didn't lose my hair from when Gohan accidentally set it on fire. We will just have to make sure we have a bucket of water around to douse me with if that happens!"
Gohan felt his face burn as he remembered that particular incident from the time chamber. "Daaaaad," he groaned and rubbed at his cheeks before he chanced a look over at Lindsey and gave her an embarrassed smile, "He does have a point though. Anything you've encountered, we've probably been through already."
Lindsey wasn't entirely sure about that, but she didn't want to argue either. She sucked her lip for just a moment before she nodded. "I'm down for more training if you all are," she finally said, watching Gohan, trying to gauge his reaction. He didn't seem bothered by the fact that she was weird, that these strange things happened to her and her friends.
Sabriena looked at the dreamy way Lindsey was staring at Gohan, him staring back at her, and she rolled her eyes. "Are you seeing this?" she whispered to Jenny, then stuck her finger down her throat and pretended to gag loudly.
Jennifer glanced at Sabriena, elbowing her lightly. "Aw, are you jealous?" She chuckled, seeing Goku tilting his head at his son and Lindsey. These people were just like her hosts at Capsule Corp. Okay, Goku was leagues friendlier than Vegeta, but that was besides the point. The strict routine worked well with her class schedule. The fact that these people were not normal was just icing on the cake. It was an odd feeling to be in a place where they could be themselves without judgement. "They didn't bat an eye at the spontaneous fire story and that man is clearly curious about your lightning strike."
Sabriena shook her head before she even realized she'd done it. No, she wasn't jealous in the slightest, and no, she didn't want to talk about the weird lightning bullshit. Her chair scraped on the floor as she stood up, grabbing up some plates to put in the sink, and she began to slice the cake for dessert. If she were to be totally honest, she'd rather just ignore it all together and hope that somehow it went away. She liked to stand out, but in that aspect, she just would rather be normal.
She set the plates of cake on the table, raising an eyebrow at Lindsey and Gohan. "You gonna make him spoon feed you your dessert?"
Lindsey's eyes went wide and her face burned again. "I'm gonna stab you with this fork," she hissed across the table as Sabriena sat down. Butterflies squirmed in her stomach, her face was burning hot… what the hell had gotten into her? Of course Sabriena's goading didn't help matters. She ducked her head, forking up a bite of the chocolate cake, wondering if Gohan was completely uncomfortable now. Ugh. Maybe this whole thing had been a bad idea. Or at least inviting Sabriena had been.
The cake practically melted on her tongue and she savored it, sighing through her nose as she swallowed. A funny thing happened then. The nerves seemed to melt away, a calm seeping through her, and she shot a look at Jenny the instant she realized what her friend had done.
Jennifer snickered into her palm as she caught Lindsey's expression. "Shhh, there there. Don't fight it." She gave her dear friend a sly wink as she proceeded to eat her own slice of cake. She should probably have felt bad for not telling Lindsey that she may have blessed the ingredients of the cake with something that would help give her confidence the extra boost she needed. Who couldn't do with a little extra calming spell in their life?
Gohan closed his eyes as he ate the cake slowly. It was, hands down, one of the best things he had ever eaten. He felt the worries he had over the upcoming semester melt away. The nervousness at sharing his home with the exchange student was just gone. He smiled as he opened his eyes and he nodded at them approvingly. "Man, I don't care what Mom says. You can come over here to make this cake any time."
"We'll smuggle you guys into the kitchen," Lindsey snickered. The corner of her mouth twitched in a smile; she did appreciate Jenny working a bit of magick into the cake. She licked the fork clean and sat back, feeling full and calmer than she had in quite a while. "We should watch a movie or something," she suggested. "Cause I know you're gonna push me even harder in the morning," she said, shooting Goku a look. She thought vaguely that she should be nervous now that he thought she needed to be pushed harder, but somehow she just couldn't muster it up. "Damn cake," she muttered under her breath.
Goku's eyes lit up and he nodded as he pushed away his empty plate, stretching his arms over his head as he let out a satisfied groan. "Well, maybe I won't work us too hard tomorrow." He gave her a wink before he stood up and headed to the living room. "What movie were you thinking? I'm so stuffed, I hope I don't fall asleep in the middle of it!"
"You don't get to pick!" Sabriena declared, pointing a finger at Jenny's nose. "All you ever wanna watch are those god-awful slasher movies. I don't want nightmares tonight!"
Lindsey snickered as she listened to her friends bicker and followed them into the living room. She really didn't care what movie they watched. She managed to catch Gohan's eye when he walked in the living room and she scooted over a little bit on the couch. "Sit by me?" she asked, feeling more like her usual self. Whatever Jenny had done to that cake, it was working.
Gohan felt his stomach do a little flip, a curious spark of something new coming to light. It had to be because she was different than anyone else he had met. And that was saying something for him. The red hair, the freckles, the energy around her... He moved to sit next to her on the couch and he gave her a smile, eyes darting nervously as their legs bumped side by side. "Did you bring any American movies with you?"
"I put a few movies on the shelf over there," she said, pointing at the bottom shelf where Chichi had let her place a few of her favorites she'd brought along with her. "Put in Practical Magic," she said, settling more into the couch, letting her leg rest against his. "I love this movie. Reminds me of my Gramma. The house in this even looks a lot like hers." It almost made her homesick as the movie started; Gramma's house had always felt more like home than her own had for several years now. She smiled a bit when Sabriena turned the lights off in the living room, and, feeling a little more bold, she reached to touch Gohan's hand.
Gohan smiled as he felt the tentative touch to his hand, his heart hammered away in his chest. He felt like a high schooler with a crush, rather than the college student he was. He let his hand open, turning to take her palm into his own. He threaded their fingers together, 'just to see how it feels', he told himself.
It felt pretty good.
