Seventeen sprawled on the couch in his apartment, the video game controller in his hands, his eyes glued to the TV screen. His fingers moved rapidly over the buttons, his brows furrowing as he fought the enemies on the screen. He sighed as the game cut away to a new scene, and he looked over his shoulder towards the kitchen. "Hey babe, can you bring me a beer?" he called, offering her an innocent grin when she looked at him. By the gods, she was gorgeous. He'd never get over how stunning she was with her dark brown skin, her tall slender frame, those full lips. He shivered as he drank in the vision of her and he shot her a wink. "Love youuuu."
His attention was drawn back to the screen, his character discussing options with other characters on the screen. "Yeah, like I'm gonna listen to you, Solas," he hissed. "Lying elven apostate bastard!"
Leelee chuckled as she pushed herself up, giving her boyfriend a wink before she went to the fridge to pull out a cold bottle. "You're just upset because he broke your heart. Shoulda gone after Cully-Wully," she said as she walked back out to the living room. She had been working on a few makeup tutorials for youtube and the website that Eighteen managed with her.
"Hey, my Inquisitor was traumatized after that," he insisted, only half listening to the characters bickering on the screen. He'd played this game through enough times that he knew most of it. "Don't drink from the well, don't let Morrigan drink from the well, I don't want to drink from the well, we can't let Corypheus have the well," he mimicked. "Someone has to drink from the damn well, Solas!" He huffed and moved his feet so that Leelee could sit down on the couch with him. "Thanks, babe," he said and took the bottle from her. He took a long pull, smacking his lips. "Oh, hey, I forgot to tell you. Eighteen and Krillin are gonna come over here in awhile. They wanna hang out and watch a movie. I told them to bring pizza."
Leelee felt a smile split across her face and she let herself slide onto the couch next to him, sliding her legs over his own as she glanced at the screen. "Oh gods, that sounds so amazing right now. I hope they bring a lot. The way you and Krillin eat could put Goku to shame if he was having an off day," she chuckled and stretched a little bit, admiring the android, meeting his icy blue gaze. Butterflies filled her stomach and she couldn't help but to think about how lucky she was.
"HA! Right. Cause it's me and Krillin that are the bottomless pits," he teased, giving her a look. He'd seen her and his sister put away their fair share of pizza and beer before too. "We should be fine. We don't have any Saiyans here tonight." He drank deeply from the bottle again, watching the screen. "They should've made Varric a love interest. That would be fun as hell," he muttered about the game. "You think they will for the next game?"
Silence.
"Babe?" he asked, finally tearing his eyes away from the screen. The bottle slipped from his hand as he saw her. "Oh shit," he breathed. It had been so long since it had happened, they'd hoped that there wouldn't be another one of these⦠episodes.
But there she sat, her back straight as a board, her eyes fixed on nothing. But they weren't her usual dark brown eyes - they were a swirling silver grey, like stormy clouds. The braids of her hair had turned to ropes of smoke, coiling around her shoulders. She didn't move, didn't make a sound. And it terrified him.
It was a battlefield this time. Leelee looked all around herself, she could smell blood in the air, the tang of energy she could almost taste. Smoke rose up from all around her and she shuddered. Visions. She wished she understood them more.
There were women with her, the only one she recognized was Catie, but she was even different than what was normal. Vines snaked around her shoulders as her hair, bright green, lush. Her eyes a vibrant purple as they stared down some unknown enemy. There were three new women there with them, each had a unique element that had changed them. Fire. Water. Light.
She gasped and looked into the darkness, into the smoke to see giant monsters looming on the horizon. They had spotted the five women and were now headed towards them. The sounds of battle were almost deafening and she grit her teeth tightly as she heard a terrible scream. A sob. It filled her entire being and made her shudder, feeling a hopelessness that overtook her.
Seventeen paced back and forth in front of her, watching her, grabbing at his own hair. Seeing her transformed like that was unnerving. He'd done tons of research, but was never able to find anything that might explain what was happening to his girlfriend. He had to resist the urge to grab her by the shoulders and shake her out of it. He'd done that once, it hadn't ended well. It was better to not touch her, to let her go through it. But it was hard to stand there and do nothing, to wonder what she was seeing and experiencing. It was usually never anything good.
"Come on, baby, wake up," he muttered softly, stopping and kneeling down in front of her. He folded his hands together and pressed them to his mouth, one knee bouncing nervously. Damn, it was so unnerving to see her like that. None of the others had ever seen this happen to her, they didn't know anything about it. And Leelee wanted it to stay that way. She didn't want anyone thinking there was something wrong with her. He'd tried to argue, to tell her that if anyone would understand being different, it was their friends. But it was useless.
She blinked, her eyes returning to their normal brown, her hair falling back into braids around her face.
"Leelee?" he asked breathlessly as he watched her try to focus. "Babe, what'd you see? You okay?"
Leelee squeezed her eyes shut a moment more before reaching out, catching Seventeen's hand in her own. The scream, it sounded so familiar, was still echoing around in her head and it made her feel sick, desperate. She felt a few tears slip down her cheeks and she shook her head. "It was a battle. Catie was there, but there were three women I didn't recognize. Everyone was fighting against something. I couldn't see them clearly enough. They looked as tall as skyscrapers." She wracked her brain and shook her head the next moment. "Someone screamed. Gods, I can still hear it." She shuddered and wrapped her arms around herself, willing the trembling to go away. "Gods, Seventeen, I think someone will die."
Seventeen moved to sit on the couch and gathered her in his arms. "Shh," he soothed, pulling her to rest her head under his chin. He frowned to feel her shaking like that. "You don't know if it's real or not," he tried to reassure her. "It could just be like a dream, you know?" But he didn't sound very convincing, not even to himself. He wiped her tears away with his thumb, his other hand rubbing at her back. "No one's going to die," he promised quietly. "We won't let that happen."
She swallowed harshly, turning her face into his neck as he held her. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to. He was right, her visions didn't always turn out to be real. Then again, her visions didn't always turn out to be false alarms. It was times like these she wanted to tell someone else of their little group about what she saw. Seventeen was more than supportive, but she couldn't help but wonder if someone else out there knew something about her visions. "I wish I knew. I wish I lived in a reality where I could laugh at these, but we live the impossible life every day."
A sigh escaped him as he held her, leaning his face into her hair. "There's always a fight coming. You know that. You can't live within fifty miles of Vegeta or Goku without there being a fight on the horizon. But still, you don't know if it's accurate." He leaned back a bit and gently pinched her chin, lifting her face to look at him. "Remember that one vision you had like a year ago? A female namek riding on an oozaru's shoulder?" he asked with a laugh. "I mean, c'mon. There's no Saiyans left that can transform. And a female namek? HA!"
Leelee managed to laugh through the tears at that one. "That was a silly one, wasn't it? And nothing ever came from that." She smiled and leaned her forehead against his own as she sucked in a deep breath, "You're right, of course. I hope it's nothing at all. You know they'd call us eventually if there was an enemy that big that needed their ass kicked." She pressed a kiss to his lips, catching her breath, slowly calming down. The terrible feeling still nagged at her, the scream still echoed.
He kissed her slow, drinking down the taste of her, and wrapped his arms more securely around her slender frame. There was nothing he hated more than seeing her so upset. And these visions were an enemy he couldn't protect her from, couldn't fight off. He slowly pulled back, pressing one more soft kiss to her full lips, his forehead still touching hers. "Are you sure you don't want to talk to anyone else about it? Maybe they would have some ideas," he suggested carefully. Though in all honesty, he didn't know who could help or what ideas they might have that he and Leelee hadn't tried already.
She thought over the immediate list of people that she felt comfortable talking to about her 'gift'. Seventeen was the only one who immediately came to mind. Reluctantly, she thought of Eighteen and Krillin, maybe even Catie. It was silly, being afraid of telling a group of individuals with powers beyond what was normal that she had visions, but it wasn't something she was proud of. Maybe if she could control it better, maybe if she understood why some visions came to pass and the others were nothing more than bad dreams.
He sat back, tucking one of her thin braids behind her ear. "You know Eighteen wouldn't judge you," he said. "Maybe she wouldn't have any answers, but it might help to have someone else to talk to. You know my sister loves you." A little too much it seemed at times. Leelee and Eighteen were practically attached at the hip. He gave her a soft smile as he wiped away another tear. "I don't know why this keeps happening or what it means. But I'm here with you no matter what. I wonder-" He cut himself short as the apartment door banged open, and Eighteen and Krillin walked in.
"Hey guys!" Krillin said brightly as he walked past Eighteen who held the door open for him, his hands full carrying pizza boxes. He nearly paused when he saw the Leelee sitting in Seventeen's lap. He chuckled as he set the boxes down on the coffee table in front of the couch, "Did you remember to tell her we were coming over this time?"
"Yeah, just a few minutes ago," Seventeen chuckled, his stomach rumbling at the smell of the pizza. He wished he'd had a few more minutes to discuss it with Leelee before they came through the door. He rubbed at her back again. "It's just been a long day," he said. With a groan, he moved her out of his lap and stood up, heading for the fridge. "We need more beer."
Krillin shared a look with Eighteen for a moment before he went and sat down in the overstuffed chair next to the couch, leaving room for the android to sit next to Leelee. He could see she'd been crying and he knew that Seventeen wouldn't dare do anything to hurt her. "Everything alright? I hope we didn't come at a bad time. We should start messaging you when we have these nights. I swear we gave him more warning than that."
Eighteen tipped her head in concern. Leelee wasn't usually a weepy sort of person, so whatever was bothering her must've been serious. "What's going on?" she asked, sitting next to Leelee on the couch. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," she said, taking the paper plates Seventeen offered when he returned. She set a few slices of pizza on a plate and handed it to her husband before she made a plate for Leelee and offered it to her. "But if I need to kick someone's ass, you tell me."
Leelee accepted the plate, the delicious scent of the greasy pizza made her stomach growl. Her mind still turned over the images from the vision she had seen. She hesitated, glancing over at Seventeen who was popping the caps off of frosty bottles. "I'm not sure whose ass needs to be kicked," she admitted, looking back at the blonde. They had grown close after she started dating Seventeen, they shared the same love for fashion and they worked together on a website, selling and posting how-to videos. "It's complicated. I see things. Randomly. They are like visions, but I can never tell if they are real or fake. They don't always come true."
"Visions?" Eighteen asked, casting a confused look at both Krillin and Seventeen.
"It sort of hits her out of nowhere," Seventeen said slowly, watching Leelee to make sure he didn't say something out of turn. "She says it's like being in a really vivid dream. Sometimes the things she sees come true. But not always. It shakes her up when it happens. And she just had one right before you guys walked in the door."
Krillin sat back, running a hand through his hair to rub at the back of his head as he thought about it. "Not a good one, I'm guessing." He looked over to Leelee sympathetically, "That's rough. I'm not sure how much help I could be with that." He tilted his head. "Have you thought about going to visit Dende? He might be the one to talk to about this stuff." He accepted the beer Seventeen passed to him.
She shook her head. "No. It's not something I enjoy talking about." She pressed her lips thin and let her eyes dart over to Eighteen before she dropped them to her plate. "Bad experience. You have to remember the place that I came from wasn't big on being different. People think I'm crazy enough as it is."
"You're not there anymore," Eighteen reminded her. She shook her head when Seventeen offered her a bottle of beer, and ignored the look he gave her. "All of us would be considered crazy if people knew what we do or what we are. You know none of us are going to judge you." She settled back and bit into her pizza, chewing for a minute. "So what did you see?" Holding shit like that in wasn't good, and Eighteen wasn't going to let Leelee do it.
Leelee wasn't certain if she would ever get used to the level of acceptance that they showed her. She blinked away the tears as she remembered the vision. "A battle," she started, going over the details as best as she could remember. It wasn't much to go off of, she realised as she finished, but she found herself feeling better as she watched Eighteen and Krillin ponder over her words. "The last thing I heard before I 'snapped out of it' was a scream. I can still hear it."
Eighteen frowned. She'd never heard of anything like that before. Even as the computer parts of her brain tried to find something, some bit of information she'd heard or read or seen, but there was nothing. She looked to her brother. "So what happens while she's having these visions?" she asked. "Does she pass out?"
Seventeen shook his head. "She just freezes," he said. "Wherever she's at, she just stops." He could still see it in his head, the way Leelee looked every time this happened. Really, it would have been sort of beautiful if it wasn't so frightening. "How she said she saw herself and Catie transformed in that vision? That's what happens. Her hair and her eyes change. They're like smoke. And I never know what the hell to do," he continued, swigging a fresh bottle, "I tried waking her up once, it just freaked her out even more. So now I just sit and stare like a dumb ass until she wakes up."
Krillin blinked at that, sorting through the information. "It sounds like you are tapping into some kind of power, like a Super Saiyan, but with whatever this is." He hadn't heard of this kind of power before and had nothing to compare it to, but still. "Can you transform at will or is it just random so far?" He saw her duck her head, it was unlike the confident woman that would come over and talk fashion with his wife. "Hey, none of that. You know you couldn't be in better company."
Leelee felt a smile tugging at her lips despite herself. "I'm starting to realize," she said as she finally reached down and picked up a slice of pizza, chewing at it thoughtfully for a moment, "I can't control the transformation. It just happens, without warning and not always at the greatest times either. I'm not sure if there is any amount of training I could do that could stop it from happening."
"We'll keep looking for answers, babe," Seventeen promised. It had been a while since she'd had one of these visions, so he hadn't been as determined to find answers lately. He mentally scolded himself for that. He threw an arm around Leelee's shoulders and hugged her closer to his side. "We'll figure it out. Now come on, let's watch a movie. Maybe we can clear our heads." He turned off the gaming console and switched the television over to where they could find something to watch. "Sis, you sure you don't want something to drink?"
"I'll get some water," she said, getting up and going to the kitchen to help herself.
Seventeen wrinkled his nose. "Since when does she turn down beer with her pizza?"
Krillin ducked his head, unable to stop the grin that spread across his face, "Oh yeah, about that." He looked up at Eighteen as she came back with her glass of water and he caught her hand as she sat down, brushing his thumb over her knuckles. "I have to admit, we had ulterior motives to hanging out with you two." He met Eighteen's blue eyes and felt himself falling for her all over again. "We're expecting! Just confirmed it at the doctor's this morning," he beamed.
Leelee's eyes widened and she felt her spirit lifting at the news. "Really?!" she giggled at the enthusiastic nod he gave her and she looked to Eighteen, the smile on her lips growing as she shared a loving look with her husband. She stood up and went over to hug the other woman. "That's fantastic news. Oh my gosh. We will have to work on decorating the baby's room! Do you know when you are due?"
"Around the end of April," Eighteen answered, ignoring her brother as he choked and sputtered on his beer. She smiled at the thought of decorating the nursery with Leelee's help. "Of course I want your help. You have excellent taste," she said. "Even if you did choose my brother."
Seventeen's eyes streamed as he grabbed napkins, still feeling like he was choking. "I think I shot beer out my nose," he grumbled as he wiped at his face. Had he heard Krillin right? Seventeen stared at his sister for a long minute, trying to see if anything about her looked different. He tried to picture her fully pregnant, and the idea just wouldn't form in his mind. "Ah, congratulations?" he offered, biting back the laughter that rose in his throat when his sister snorted at him.
Leelee rolled her eyes, the smile firmly in place as she mock elbowed Seventeen. "Aw, you get to be Uncle Seventeen now!" she giggled and smiled at the couple. They were positively beaming and the good energy seemed to chase away the lingering horror of her vision. She would have to have a long talk with Seventeen later about some of the suggestions they had given her. It could wait for a little while longer. "I'm so happy for you both!"
"Thanks," Eighteen smiled, resting a hand over her still-flat stomach. The butterflies she'd felt earlier that day returned full force when she saw Krillin staring at her, a look of excitement and pride in his eyes. She reached for his hand, running her thumb over his knuckles. Their future was bright and full of possibilities. Even if the horrible things Leelee had seen in her vision were to come true, it wasn't going to bring Eighteen down today. They'd cross those bridges when they got there.
