Mercedes licked her lips as she placed two cold water bottles on the counter and opened up a bag of strawberries. She had her second checkup today and she was really excited about it. She was also excited that they were finally settled into their home. It took them a week to get things where it needed to be. Hearing footsteps coming from the back stairs in the kitchen, she turned with a smile when she saw it was Madison, "Are you ready sweetie?"

"Yes." Madison said excitedly. Every since they said she could tag along, Madison has been so happy to be getting to see her little sibling.

"Daddy said he'll be here in five minutes." She smiled as she kissed her cheek. Since Mercedes is pregnant, she had convinced Laura to give the new prosecutor a chance so that she could take the week off as a test trial for when she takes maternity leave. Laura was in hoots about it of course because she knew there would never be anyone that could come in and do their job like Mercedes does it, "So..do you want to go to a summer camp this year?" Mercedes asked as she placed her hand underneath her chin, handing her a couple of strawberries on the plate and sliding her a water.

Madison bit down on her lip as she looked down at the plate, "Not really. The only reason I went is because she told I had to go."

Mercedes frowned as she looked at her, "Well you don't have to go if you don't want to baby girl." She moved her hair back, wiping the tear the slid from her face, "Don't cry Madi. I promise I won't let her hurt you any more."

Madison nodded as she looked at Mercedes sniffling.

"Do you want daddy to take back to Dr. Mitchell so you can talk to him some more?" When she nodded, Mercedes smiled, leaning in to hug her. Madison had opened up a lot to her therapist and she loved going to talk to the man. Mercedes kissed her forehead before she pulled back, "Eat your snack while I got get a sweater." She got up from her seat and headed up the stairs, getting the sweater from off the bed, she came back just in time to hear Sam honking his horn.

Madison placed the rest of the strawberries back in the bag and handed it to Mercedes to put in her purse, grabbing her bottle of water, she took Mercedes hand into hers and walked to the front door.

Mercedes locked the door when they made it outside and headed to the truck, smiling as she watched Sam get out the truck and hug his daughter, helping her into his truck.

"Buckle your seatbelt." He said before he closed her door, turning to Mercedes with a smile, he kissed her lips softly before he opened up the door for her.

"Thank you love." She patted his cheek before she got in.

Sam smirked at her before he closed the door, walking back to his side of the car, he buckled his own seat belt, before turning on the engine and backing out of the driveway.

Maverick blew out a breath as he sat at one of the cafés by the beach. He was thankful that school was out for the summer. He needed a break before he started his hectic senior year. Seeing his boyfriend coming up, he smiled as he stood up from his chair and greeted him with a hug, "Hey."

"Hey." Brent smiled as he hugged him back, sitting in the seat in front of him, "Did you order already?"

"No, I was waiting for you."

"How sweet." Brent said with a teasing smirk.

Maverick rolled his eyes playfully, "Yeah..I can be that at times."

Brent chuckled as he opened up the menu, "How's things going on with the new house? You like it so far?"

"You know how it has just been me and mom so it's a little different being with Sam and Madison but I love it. We're adjusting really good."

Brent smiled at him, "That's good."

He looked up when he saw the waiter coming, almost choking on his spit.

"My name is Alec and I'll be your server to today." He greeted with a smile as he looked to Maverick, his smile started to fade when he saw Brent, clearing his throat, he turned back to Maverick, "Are you ready to order?"

"Yeah, can I get a club sandwich with fries and a strawberry lemonade."

"Mhm." He wrote down his order before turning to Brent, eyeing the boy lustfully, biting down on his lip, "And for you?"

"I'll have to same." He squeaked out, taking a sip of the water that was already on the table.

Maverick looked at the waiter with a frown as he was openly checking his boyfriend out and he could've sworn Brent just squeaked under his gaze. He decided to let it go because he had a history of assuming things. When he left, he picked up his phone that vibrated, seeing he had a text from his mom letting him know that they were headed to the doctor, "So my mom has another appointment today."

"Are you exciting about being a big brother?" Brent asked with a smile.

"I mean I'm already one to Madison but I'm excited." He laughed happily.

"I'm happy for you and your mom. All of the things you guys have been through and looked at y'all now." He smiled as he reached over for his hand.

"And I got you." Maverick gave him a lopsided grin.

Brent laughed as he nodded, "Yes you do." He moved his hand when the waiter came back with their food.

Maverick frowned when he did it, causing him to look at him strangely. He thanked Alec and watched as Brent did the same.

"You're very welcome." The waiter said as he looked at him for awhile before he walked anyway.

"Okay, do you know him or something?" Maverick asked questionably.

Brent shook his head, "No..not at all." He began eating his food to try to avoid the conversation.

Maverick looked at him with a frown deepening on his face. He could tell when he was lying and the only thing he didn't get was why, "Why are you lying to me Brent?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" Brent sat his sandwich down to look at him.

"I've been trying to ignore it since we got here but you know him. The longing looks at each other, your reaction to when you first saw him, who is he?" Maverick asked in a eerily calm voice.

Before Brent could answer, Alec came back asking of they needed anything.

"Yeah, I do. I need you to tell me why the hell you've been flirting with him." Maverick spatted our angrily, glaring at both of them.

Brent shook his head as he looked at Alec.

"Brent and I use to date." The boy said bluntly with a smirk, "We were each other's first of many things."

"And you think it's okay for you flirt with him when he has a boyfriend?" Maverick snapped.

Alec turned to him with a glare, "Boyfriend? Hm, interesting."

"Alec no.." Brent begged.

"So you do know him." He glared at Brent before he turned to this Alec dude, "No, why is it interesting?" Maverick asked him, sitting up in his seat straight, his fist balled up tightly.

"You're the same boyfriend who was kissing up on Kelsey? The same one who didn't even know if you were gay or not. I just find that real interesting."

"What the fuck does that have to do with you?"

"Oh, it has a lot to do with me actually." He looked at Brent as he spoke, "For the last year, while you was unsure of what you were, your boyfriend over here was confiding into me. That whole year while your were unsure, we've been texting and seeing each other on a physical level when he wasn't with you."

Maverick looked at Brent in shock, "Is this true?"

Brent felt his eyes starting to water up, "Mav...please hear me out."

Maverick shook his head in disgust as he stood up from the table. That whole year while he was trying to figure out himself, Brent was with someone else. He was so honest to Brent about his feelings throughout that time but now he knew that he wasn't about his. He looked over at Brent with angry eyes, "Did you have sex with him?"

Brent looked at him before he looked away, "Yes but.." He started but Alec cut him off.

"It wasn't a one time thing either."

Maverick let out a humorless laugh, "Unbelievable." He grabbed his wallet out of his pocket and threw down to money to pay for the meal he didn't eat. He walked out of the restaurant and headed to his car. Once he was finally in, he stared at the water of the ocean before abruptly punched the steering wheel, letting out an angry scream. His vision was glossed over with tears as he laid his head down on the steering wheel.

Mercedes held onto Madison as they sat into the waiting room, swaying them back and forth. She looked over at Sam with a smile, "We had a little trigger again this morning. She wants to go back to talk to Dr. Mitchell."

Sam pushed back his daughter's bang, "What happened?"

"I brought up summer camp."

"Oh yeah." Sam nodded understandably, looking at her, "I'll make you an appointment soon, okay sweetheart?"

She nodded with a smile as she leaned against Mercedes.

Mercedes kissed her forehead as she held onto her tightly, hearing the nurse called her name, she sat her to the floor and took her small with hers and walked over to the nurse with Sam in tow. She let go of Madi's hand as the nurse ask to take her weight and temperature. She checked her bold pressure also and told them that everything looked normal. Mercedes followed behind her as she led them to a room, she thanked her when she said the doctor would be in shortly.

Sam sat in of the chairs, placing Madison in his lap, "Are you excited, sweetheart?"

"I am daddy." She smiled up at him before turning to Mercedes, eyeing her stomach happily.

Mercedes laughed at her excitement. She was so happy about getting a little sibling it wasn't even funny, hearing a soft knock on the door, "Come in."

Dr. Kline smiled as he entered the room, "Nice to see you again Mercedes and Sam." He shook their hands before he looked down at the little girl, "And you brought someone else. What's your name sweetie?"

"My name is Madison." She told the older man with a smile.

He smiled as he shook her hand, "Nice to meet you Madison." He turned to Mercedes as he placed some gloves on, "Alright your vitals looked really good. How have your morning sickness been?"

"It's been a little different then when I was pregnant with my son. It's a bit more excessive."

"Hm, I think I know why too but I'll check before I assume. Lay back for me." He walked over and turned off the lights, turning on the machine, "Anything else I need to know?"

"I'm taking my vitamins like you said and that's about it." Mercedes said as she laid back on the bed, looking over at Madison, she sent her a wink.

Madison giggled as she looked at Mercedes, she looked up at her daddy with a smile.

Sam kissed her forehead as he watched on.

"Very good." Dr. Kline said as he lifted her shirt, pressing down softly on her stomach, he took the gel and squeezed it on her belly.

Mercedes grunted at how cold the gel was.

He smiled down at her, "Sorry about that." He grabbed the probe, running it slowly across her stomach, leaning over to turn up the volume.

Sam felt his eye mist up when he heard the heartbeat.

"Cool." Madison said in amazement.

Mercedes smiled over at them, reaching out her hand for them to hold.

Madison wrapped her hand in hers as did Sam.

Dr. Kline ran the probe over her stomach again, looking at the screen for what he expected to cause her to have excessive morning sickness, when he found it, he smiled, "I think I found your little excessive vomit problem." He pointed to the gray area, "You see that right there?" When they all nodded, "That right there folks is another one."

"Another one?" Sam asked in confusion.

Mercedes eyes went wide before she covered her mouth, her eyes filling with tears, "Oh my god."

"What? What's wrong?" Sam asked worriedly when he saw Mercedes starting to cry.

"Mr. Evans, congratulations. You're having twins." Dr. Kline said excitedly as he looked at the couple.

Sam was speechless. He looked over at Mercedes who was looking back at him. A wide smile breaking out on his face, "We're having twins."

Mercedes nodded happily as she looked at him, wiping her face. She was so wrapped up in her emotions she couldn't even speak.

"I'm rounding your due date to November 22nd." Dr. Kline took a couple of pictures, letting them hear the heartbeats again. Putting the probe up, he wiped Mercedes stomach off and pulled down her shirt, throwing his gloves away, "I'll be right back." He closed the door when he walked back.

Sam looked down at Madison with a watery smile, "Muffin do you know what this means?"

"Mommy's having two babies." Madison asked excitedly as she began to jump up and down. She got up from Sam's lap and went to hug Mercedes.

Mercedes hugged her back, trying to keep her tears at bay, smiling when Sam came over and hugged them. She leaned up and kissed his lips sweetly.

Sam kissed her back, letting every ounce of emotion he felt show in the kiss. He pulled back and kissed her cheek, moving up to kiss her nose with a smile, "I love you."

"I love you too." She sniffled as she kissed him one last time.

Dr. Kline came back in with the pictures and handed them to Mercedes, "Your appointment card is in there also. Congratulations again and I'll see you in two weeks." He smiled as he walked out the door.

Mercedes rubbed her finger of the two gray spaces of the sonogram, looking over at Madison with a smile, "You think you still want to help me and daddy with two babies?"

Madison nodded happily as she looked at the pictures.

Sam smiled at his two girls, bringing them into another hug, "Lets go home." He kissed their foreheads, helping Mercedes off the bed. He interlock one of his hand with hers, taking his other hand and interlocking it with his daughter's.

Maverick sat in the living room reflecting on the lunch he just had. He couldn't believe Brent would lie and deceive him like he did. Of course Maverick was unsure about his sexuality but that didn't make him want to go sleep with a girl to find it out. He worked with Brent throughout that year, letting him know his feelings and he hoped that he understood but it looks like he didn't. Hearing the front door open, he wiped his face when his family came view.

"Maverick." Madison smiled as she ran to him, jumping into his lap with a giggle.

Maverick smiled as he held her in his lap, "Hey Madi."

Mercedes smiled as she sat on the opposite couch in front of him, "Are you hungry?"

"Yeah." He smiled sadly at her, before he looked back at Madison.

"I'm going to get the grill started and season the meats." Sam said as he made his way to the kitchen.

Mercedes took in his sadness, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing I'm fine." He looked at her, "How was the visit?"

"Ooh, can I tell him mommy?" Madison eyes went wide in excitement.

"Of course." Mercedes said with a smile as she pulled out the pictures.

"Mommy is having twins." Madison clapped her hands together.

Maverick eyes went wide before he looked over to his mother, "Seriously?"

"Mhm." She bit down on her lip as she handed him the pictures.

Maverick took them from her, looking at them, he smiled, "This is so cool mom."

"I know.." Mercedes smiled as she watched him closely, seeing his phone vibrating, she saw he had twenty five missed calls from Brent, looking at Madison, "Hey Madi?"

"Yes mommy?"

"Can you do me a big favor?"

She nodded as she got up from Maverick's lap and went to her.

"Can you please go make sure daddy doesn't burn himself or better yet the food?"

Madison giggled loudly as she nodded, "Okay." She trotted off to the kitchen.

Mercedes smiled as she stood up, snatching the phone off the table, she went and sat by her son, handing him his phone, "Your boyfriend is desperately trying to get in touch with you."

Maverick scoffed as he kept his gaze on the pictures.

Mercedes was taken aback by him not saying anything, she turned her head when she heard the doorbell ring, getting up from her seat, she walked to the door, looking out the peephole, opening the door quickly, "Brent."

"Ms. Jones." His face was beet red, eyes puffy, "Is Maverick here?"

"Yeah, come in." She stepped aside to let him in, closing the door back.

Brent walked towards the living room to where he was, "Can we talk please?"

Maverick sat the pictures down on the table and stood up, "For what? There's nothing to talk about."

Mercedes leaned against the doorframe, watching them closely.

"You need to hear me out." He said angrily, glaring at him.

"Don't tell me what I need to do Brent. You're not my mother." He glared back at him.

"Look, I know what I did was wrong but you cannot be mad at me for it when you did the same thing." He said desperately, even if he knew it wasn't remotely the same thing.

"Are you serious right now? Are you really trying to compare what you did to what I did with Kelsey?" His voice was steadily rising, "I kissed Kelsey while I was drunk and going through some things but you." He pointed, moving closer to him, "You had sex with someone else while you were with me and it wasn't even one time thing. It was throughout the course of that year. So don't you dare say I can't be mad because of that."

"What did you expect me to do Maverick? You didn't know if you wanted to be with me or not, so what the hell did you expect?"

"I expected for my best friend to be honest with me and tell me, oh hey, I know you're not sure if you want this or not, so I'm going to move on with my life, so let me know when or if you're ready." He yelled at him, "If you wanted to do what you did, you should've never waited for me."

Mercedes jumped slightly when she heard his voice rise. She couldn't believe that Brent would do something like that to Maverick.

Brent looked at him sadly, "I'm sorry."

"Yeah, well I'm sorry too. I'm sorry that I wasted your time. I'm sorry that I couldn't open up to you enough to talk about my feelings. I'm sorry that being with me was such a burden to you. I'm sorry for kissing Kelsey, even if I knew she wasn't what I wanted. I'm sorry for getting jealous over every single guy that talks to you because I was scared that you might find someone better than me. So yes, I'm sorry Brent that I couldn't be the perfect boyfriend you wanted. Now get the hell out of my house." He turned around and walked up the stairs.

Brent looked at his retrieving form with tears clouding his vision. He had just lost the one person who meant everything to him by being so stupid. He turned around and walked to the foyer, opening the front door, he looked back only to see Mercedes with a hurt look in her eyes, "I'm sorry for hurting him Ms. Jones."

"Goodbye Brent." Mercedes shook her head as she walked out of his view.

Brent head hung low as he shut the front door. Now he have lost two people that meant the world to him in just one day.

Mercedes headed to the backyard with Sam and Madi, deciding to give Maverick some time to himself. She slid the backdoor open, seeing that Madison was actually telling Sam not to burn to food made her giggle.

"Look, I've been cooking since before you were born. I got this." He smirked at his daughter, bopping her nose.

"I'm just telling you what mommy told me to tell you." She smiled as stood on the step stool beside him, sliding him over the pan of seasoned steaks.

"Well, your mommy doesn't know what she's talking about." He murmured quietly.

Mercedes raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"

"You're in trouble." Madison giggled.

"Babe, I just said I love you." He flashed her an innocent smile, showcasing all of his pearly whites.

"Sure you did." She stepped out with a soft smile, going to sit in one of the chairs.

Sam smirked at her, turning to his daughter, "Can you go get some paper towels for me?"

"Sure." She stepped off the stool and went to the kitchen.

Sam let down the lid to grill, wiping his hands off with a towel, "What was all that yelling about in there?"

Mercedes sighed as she leaned back in the chair, rubbing her forehead, "I don't know the whole story but from what I heard, Brent was sleeping with someone else while he was with Maverick."

"What?" Sam yelled out in shock, he apologize when he saw her jump, "Why the hell..."

"I don't know and I'm going to talk to Maverick later. I think he just needs time to himself."

"Let me talk to him." Sam said as he stood in front of her, "I'll take him to the gym tomorrow to blow of some steam."

"Okay." Mercedes smiled up at him.

"Good." He leaned down and kissed her lips softly, pulling back when he heard Madison come back, "Thank you baby girl."

"You're welcome." She made her way back to the side of him.

"I'll go make a salad." She stood up and made her way to the kitchen. That night, Sam tried to ease Maverick mind off of the drama by telling them a funny story from his childhood.

"So we're going to do a one mile run, boxing, and one minute planks." Sam said as he onto the treadmill. He kept his promise of taking Maverick to the gym the next morning to get his mind off of things and plus, he just wanted to spend some time with him.

"Is that all you can do old man?" Maverick quipped as he got on the treadmill. He was happy that Sam asked him to go to the gym with him this morning.

"First I'm not old. Second I can do more but I just have to take it easy so I can still be able to sex your mom up without being sore." He waggled his eyebrows.

"Gross. I do not want to think about my mom having sex." He shivered lightly.

Sam laughed at him, starting his treadmill, "One mile." He began running when the pace started to speed up.

Maverick nodded as he began running, hoping he could take his kind off of things just for awhile. After all the thinking he did last night, he didn't regret a thing he said to Brent. He lied to him for over a year, that's so he can't let go. So as for them being together, that was a done deal. Seeing that machine slowed down when the reached their limit, they headed to floor to do thirty sets of one minute planks.

"I'm getting to old for this shit." Sam said as he leaned up on his elbows.

"See I told you." Maverick smiled as he mimicked Sam's action, "A body in motion tends to stay in motion. I'm able to do this because I do play football and baseball."

"Yeah yeah yeah." Sam playfully rolled his eyes at him.

Maverick laughed as he came down for a breather, looking up when he heard a voice.

"Hi. I'm Karen and this is my daughter Amy." The red head practically purred as she looked at Sam lustfully, "And you are?"

"I have a fiancée and four kids." Sam dismissed the thirstiness right away as he lifted up for another plank.

"And I'm gay so.." Maverick said as he looked at the girl who looked his age. He couldn't hold in his laughter as he watched them walk away with disappointed looks on their faces, "That was good."

"See, we work good together. Got to keep the thirsties in check." Sam smirked as he jumped up, holding out a hand for him to grab.

Maverick smiled as he took his hand, "I think we can skip boxing for today."

"Thank you." Sam literally yelled, causing everyone to look at them strangely, "Lets get out of here." He went to the back and grabbed his duffle bag and walked out the building, sitting their things in the truck. He grabbed two bottles of water and the two headed to sit at one of the benches by the beach.

Maverick downed his water as he looked out towards the water, "Thanks a lot for getting out the house this morning."

"Anytime." Sam smiled at him, "Like I said, I'm just not here for your mom, I'm here for you too. If you ever want to talk, I'm all ears."

Maverick nodded as he looked at him, "It just hurts ya know? I think I would've been okay with if he only had sex with him once but...it was throughout the year Sam and I..." He broke off, hating that he was getting emotional.

Sam moved closer to him, wrapping him into a hug, "It's okay."

Maverick fell into his embrace, hugging him back. He didn't even know he was crying until he felt the wetness of Sam's shirt, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be." Sam whispered as he pulled back, "You have every right to be angry."

"It's all my fault though. I pushed him to someone else because I couldn't make up my mind."

"You stop blaming yourself right now Maverick." His voice was stern but caring, "You didn't push him to someone else, he did that on his own. If he really loved you like he said he did, he would've stuck by your side no matter what." Sam sat up straight, looking at him. He could tell that Maverick really loved Brent but this really broke him.

"I just.." He let out a harsh breath, running his hands over his face, "I can't be with him knowing what he did."

"And no one is saying you have to." Sam patted his shoulder.

Maverick nodded, wiping the last of her tears, he turned to Sam and let out a sad smile, "Thank you again."

"You're welcome." He smiled as he stood up from the bench, "I don't know about you but I could eat some of the leftover steak. Workout be damned."

Maverick chuckled, nodding in agreement, "I agree."

Sam wrapped his arm around the younger boy's neck, "Let go home." They walked along the sidewalk and headed back across the street to the truck, a sense of peace and calmness surrounding them.

A/N. WOW! If this wasn't an emotional roller coaster I don't know what is. Samcedes is having twins! So excited about that. I just want to wrap Madison up in a tight hug and let her know that everything is going to be alright, which it is and she's going to get so much better especially when I have the major time jump (don't worry, it's not happening just yet) She's going to be a little spit fire ;) Moving on to Brenrick. Smh, poor Maverick! Who would've thought Brent would've did something like that. Do you think Maverick will move on or give him another chance? The part with Sam and Maverick was so fun to write. The father/son bond is already their between them. Merry Christmas you guys. :)
