Madison was sitting in the kitchen watching as Mercedes sliced up some finger sandwiches and placed them in a container for the picnic.

Mercedes looked up with a smile when she saw Madison looking on curiously. Picking up one of the sandwiches, she brought it up to her mouth, "Open up."

Madison opened her mouth, munching on the sandwich with a smile, "It's really good."

"Thank you sweetheart." She leaned over and gave the little girl a kiss on the cheek before she went back to her task.

Sam came into the kitchen with smile on his face. He dropped a kiss on his daughter's cheek, going over to Mercedes, stealing a kiss on her lips, sniffing the air, "It smells really good in here. What did you cook?"

"I made some sandwiches, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, and Tina gave me the recipe to her spicy Asian barbecue meatballs." Mercedes said as she closed the lid down on the container, finally looking at him, she smiled at his outfit, "You look cute."

Madison looked at her dad and giggled, "You really do, daddy."

Sam was dressed in a short sleeved plaid shirt, his khaki bermuda shorts paired with his red converses. He smirked at them, "Thank you babies and may I say that y'all look very gorgeous."

Madison had on a short powder blue sundress paired with her silver sandals and Mercedes has pulled her hair back into a fishtail braid, "Thank you daddy."

Mercedes had on a long dark blue spaghetti strap maxi dress that hugged her bump perfectly, paired with a pair of black sandals and her hair was braided into a loose side braid. Mercedes smiled at him, kissing his cheek, "Thank you baby."

"You're very welcome." He smiled as he walked around to grab the container of sandwiches and the crockpot filled with the meatballs, "Maverick said he would meet us there."

"Okay." Mercedes washed the few dishes in the sink before they left. Drying off her hands, she tossed the paper towel in the garbage, picking up the container of cookies, she handed it to Madison so she could take them to the truck. She grabbed her purse from the table and turned off the lights, following behind the little girl outside.

Sam placed the things on the floor in the back, closing the door, he hopper in the front seat and buckled his seatbelt.

Mercedes sighed as she placed her seatbelt strap behind her back, looking over at Sam with a pout, pointing to her stomach, "Look at this. I look like I have a small bowling ball underneath my dress."

Sam chuckled as he looked at her growing belly, "It just mean that they're are really healthy."

"And is going to have mommy looking like a whale."

"You will not look like a whale, mommy." Madison said sweetly as she played a game on her iPad.

"Thank you Madi."

Sam smiled as he leaned over and kissed her cheek, "I agree with Muffin, mommy."

Mercedes smiled as she looked back down at her stomach. I'm all honestly, she didn't care what she looked like, as long as her babies were healthy and growing properly.

Sam smirked as he pulled out of the driveway and headed down the road.

Mercedes smiled as she held a cup of fruit punch in one of her hands, her other one holding a plate with two of her cookies on there. She was watching as Madison played with the other kids around the park. The picnic was going by really good. Mercedes got to meet some of Sam's colleagues, a few which she already knew from court. Seeing her son walking up, she smiled as she met him halfway, "Hey sweetheart."

"Hey mama." He smiled as he kissed her cheek, pulling back to take her in, "You look adorable."

Mercedes playfully rolled her eyes at him, "Stop.."

"You do." He laughed at her. He didn't know what it was but pregnancy really did look good on his mom, especially since she was so short.

"Well, thank you very much." She bumped her hip against his.

Maverick smirked down at her, looking at her plate, he grabbed one of the cookies, stuffing it in his mouth, munching on it hungrily.

"Get your own." Mercedes giggled as she looked at him.

"Come with me." He pulled her towards the beginning of the table where he preceded to put food on his plate.

Sam had just came from the restroom when he ran into a familiar face, "Hey Levi."

The young boy turned around with smile, "Mr. Evans..I mean Sam." He chuckled when he gave him a look, shaking his head.

"I haven't seen you in months, how have you been?" Levi was Sam's boss's son. Since Sam has been in California, he has grown to know the Herrington family really well.

"I've been so busy with school. How's Madison?" He smiled as he placed his hands into his pocket.

"She's doing great. I bet she's running around here somewhere." He looked scanned the park area, spotting his daughter on the swings with another little girl. He turned to Levi, "What's up with you?"

"Dad actually wanted me to talk you about that thing."

"Of course he did. He has been nagging me about it nonstop." Sam smirked as he patted his shoulder, "Lets sit down for a minute." Sam led them over the a bench, sitting on the opposite side, he looked at him with a serious face, "I know your dad is pressuring you on doing this internship so my question is..do you actually want to work in the criminal justice field?"

"I mean..I guess..no..I don't really know..." Levi shifted uncomfortably, running his hands over his face with a grunt.

"I figured." Sam sighed as he looked him. This was something Sam didn't like. He disliked when parents tried to decided their children's future for them, "Okay, I know you don't want to hurt his feelings so this is what I'm going to do. You can work with me over the summer. I have court cases you can sit in on and you can take notes."

"So basically I'm going to be doing what those college kids do in that show How To Get Away With Murder?" Levi asked with a small smirk.

Sam laughed knowing exactly what he was talking about, "Yes and no. It'll be a great experience. It'll give you time before you graduate next year to see if you want to go into law."

Levi nodded with a wide smile, "That sounds really good. Thank you so much Sam. You're seriously the best."

"I try." He smiled, feeling someone come behind, he turned and smiled when he saw it was his fiancée, "Hey baby."

"Hi." She said sweetly before she bend down to kiss his lips softly.

Sam kissed her back before he pulled back, "Babe..I want you to meet someone." He turned to Levi, "This is my boss's son Levi and Levi, this is my beautiful fiancée, Mercedes Jones."

Levi stood up and went to shake her hand, "It's really a nice to meet you Ms. Jones. I've seen you in action in the courtroom and I have to say, you're truly amazing at your job."

"Aw, well thank you Levi. I do try my best." She smiled at the younger boy, turning to Sam with a smile.

"Where's Maverick?" Sam asked curiously.

Mercedes turned just in time to see her son walking up, "You must have that esp?"

"When my name is involved, yes." He laughed when she glared at him, he looked over her shoulder at Sam and a boy who looked strangely familiar.

"Well I'm glad you do because I would like for you to meet someone." Sam said as he pulled Maverick to his side, "This is Levi, Levi this is Maverick."

Mercedes rose a brow at Sam, letting a smirk take over her features. She knew exactly what he was doing. Folding her arms over her chest, she continued to look at her fiancé knowingly.

Sam wrapped an arm around Mercedes waist, pulling her closer to him, he looked down at her and saw that she was smirking, "What?" He mouthed innocently.

"You know what." She mouthed back, giving him a look before she turned her focus back to the boys.

"It's nice to meet you." Levi said as he stared at him, trying to figure out where he has seen his face at, "I'm sorry for staring, you just look so familiar."

"I was going to say the same about you." Maverick said quietly.

"If I may say, you guys probably played against each other in football or baseball." Sam piped in.

"You're the pitcher for Torrence Academy.." Maverick said with realization dawning on him quickly, "We played you guys in a tournament last year."

"Yeah and you play for Santa Monica High.." Levi said with a smile as he held out his hand, "I remember your face..well it's not like I was trying to..that came out wrong..it's j-just I remember you from the game..." He drifted off, cursing underneath his breath for making a fool out of himself.

Maverick chuckled as he shook his hand, "I know what you mean."

Levi smiled as he let his hand go, placing his back in his pockets.

Sam looked between them with a smile, "Alright..so, now that we got that settled. How about we enjoy the rest of the picnic?" He looked over at Levi, "You can hang with us if you like. I know your dad is around greeting and talking to people and I know you don't want to be bored to death."

"I don't want to..."

"You're not." Mercedes cut him off, knowing exactly what he was going to say. She gave him a warm smile, "I promise."

"Okay." He smiled as he followed behind them to a nearby table.

Madison sat in Mercedes lap rubbing her sleepy eyes. She had so much fun playing with her new friend, Kaylee, but she had to stop because she was sleepy. Laying her head on Mercedes shoulder, she let out a yawn as she watched everyone in the park.

Mercedes patted Madison's hair down, kissing the sleepy little girl's forehead, swaying slowly from side to side. She looked in front of her with a smile as she watched Levi and Maverick talk at the other table. It's was really refreshing to see him smiling a real smile again.

"He's a good kid you know?" Sam whispered as he sat beside her.

"He seems like it." She looked over at him with a smile, "But you're still not slick."

"What? All I did was introduce the two. They could become really good friends and I think that could be good for Maverick. All his other ones are so biased with the situation with Brent, they don't know who side to take and it shouldn't be like that. He could use someone fresh and new right now." Sam said honestly.

Mercedes was quite shock that Sam knew about what was going on between Mav and his friends but she shouldn't be really. Him and Maverick went to workout every Saturday morning so she guessed they talked about it, "I guess you're right."

"I know I'm right." He quipped, earning a slap of a hand to his shoulder, he smirked as he brought his cup to his lips.

Madison looked up at Mercedes with sleepy eyes, "Is Levi going to be Maverick's new boyfriend?"

Sam looked at her, choking on his drink a little.

Mercedes patted Sam's back repeatedly, looking down at her, "They're just friends Madi."

"Oh.." She said quietly before she closed her eyes.

Sam laughed softly as he shook his head at his daughter, "I think we should start heading home."

"What's the rush Evans?" A voice came from behind them.

Mercedes rolled her eyes as she counted up to ten in her head. She was not going to deal with this man's foolery today.

"There's no rush Andrews." Sam said calmly.

Michael grunted as he eyes moved to Mercedes, eyeing her stomach, "So you two are actually together forever huh? You done went and got Jones knocked up, congrats."

"I got my fiancée pregnant..yes." Sam corrected him, "But I don't see how that's any of your damn business."

"Woah, calm down Evans. I just wanted to congratulate you." Michael held up in his hands smirking, sipping a little beer from his bottle.

Mercedes slid off the bench with a now wide awake Madi in her arms. She sat the little girl down on the bench and stood beside Sam, "You said what you had to say now leave."

"Sorry to inform you Jones but this right here.." He gestured with his hands, "..is our side of town. You don't get to run anything around here." He told her drunkly.

Mercedes took a deep breath as she toyed with the plastic knife in her hand.

Maverick looked up when he heard the commotion coming from in front of them, "Shit." He jumped up when he saw his mom twisting the knife. He walked over with a strain smile, wrapping an arm around her waist, pulling her away from the jackass, grabbing Madi's hand as well.

"I wasn't going to do anything." She whispered to her son as he pulled them far away from Sam and Michael, throwing the knife in the nearby trashcan.

"Yeah..I could believe that a few months ago but you're pregnant and your hormones tend to rage." He chuckled.

Mercedes let out a deep sigh, feeling tears well up in her eyes, "I'm not stupid Maverick."

Madison glared at Maverick, "You're making her cry." She took her small arms and wrapped them around Mercedes.

Maverick eyes went wide as he looked at her, "No mom..don't cry." He took his hands and wiped her tears, "I wasn't trying to make you cry I swear."

"Is everything okay here?" Mr. Herrington asked as he saw the tension growing between Sam and Michael.

"Just Michael being a grade A asshole like always, sir." Sam glared at him.

"You know what Evans.." He slurred, pointing a finger in his face.

Mr. Herrington looked at him, moving his hand from out of Sam's face, "You need to leave now Michael. You acting out of control and you're drunk. I will not have you going around here and ruining everyone's day. Call a cab and leave."

"Fine." He threw his hands up in the air, glaring at Sam before he walked away.

Sam took a deep breathe as he looked at his boss, fixing his mouth to say something.

"Don't apologize Sam. I know of the history between him and Ms. Jones and he has no right to be starting mess with you and your family." He patted Sam's shoulder with a smile, "Come on..I would love to meet that fiancée of yours."

"Okay." Sam smiled as he led him over to Mercedes, his smile starting to fade when he saw her crying, "Sweetheart what's wrong?"

"Maverick made her cry, daddy." Madison said with a frown plastered on her lips.

"I didn't mean to." He said quietly.

Mercedes wiped her eyes, turning to Sam, "I'm just hormonal..I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize." He smiled softly, wiping her face, he leaned in and hugged her, "I want you to meet my boss, Mr. Herrington."

Mr. Herrington smiled at their interaction. He knew exactly what she was going through because he has been through it four times with his wife, "It's very nice to meet you, Ms. Jones."

"Pleasure to meet you too, sir." She smiled at the older man.

"And you know Madison.." Sam said, motioning his hand to his daughter.

"Of course I do." He pinched the little girl's cheek, "How are you sweetie?"

"Good." She smiled sweetly at him.

"And this is Mercedes's son, Maverick." Sam said finally with a smile.

"Nice to meet you sir." Maverick smiled as he shook his hand.

"You too." Mr. Herrington smiled, seeing his son come up, wrapping an arm around his shoulder, "Have you met my son Levi?"

"We have actually, very sweet young man." Mercedes smiled at the boy.

"Thank you Ms. Jones." He smiled politely at her before turning back to Sam, "Samuel, it's been awhile since we have had dinner and we should definitely do it soon."

"Will do sir." He smiled as he held on to Mercedes, watching as he said his goodbyes and walked away, turning to Mercedes, "We should get home."

"Okay." She looked over and smiled at Levi, "It was nice meeting you." She said before she took Madison's hand and headed to the car.

"You too." He waved as he watched them leave, turning to Sam, "I'll see you Monday?"

"Bright and early." Sam said before he headed into the same direction as Mercedes and Madison.

Levi smiled before he turned back to Maverick, "It was nice meeting you as well."

"Same here." Maverick smiled as he looked at him.

"We should definitely hang out sometime." Levi said as he walked closer to him, sliding Maverick's phone out of his hand, he typed his number into his phone and then sent a text to his phone so he could save his number, looking back at him with a smile, "See you around Maverick."

"Yeah.." Maverick watched as he walked away with a smile. He was definitely glad he came to this picnic.

When they made it home, everyone took their baths and came down to to the dining room when Mercedes finished with dinner. Once they were done eating, Sam grabbed all the plates and sat them in the sink and began to wash them as Mercedes headed upstairs.

Maverick picked Madison's up bridal style and carried her to her room, kicking the door open with his foot, he took one of his hands and pulled back the cover, laying her flat in her bed then pulling them over her, "I'm sorry for making mama cry today, I really didn't mean to."

Madison shrugged as she looked at him with tired eyes, "It's okay..just don't let it happen again."

Maverick chuckled as he nodded, "Yes ma'am." He leaned down and kissed her forehead, "Goodnight Madi, love you."

"Goodnight Mavy, love you more." She closed her eyes and drifted off into a peaceful slumber.

Maverick smiled at the nickname as he turned off her lights, leaving a small crack in the door, he rounded the long hallway and headed towards his mom and Sam's room, "Hey."

"Hi sweetheart. I'm glad you came up here, I wanted to apologize to you." She smiled sadly as she sat up in the bed.

"No, mom I'm the one who should be sorry. I knew you wouldn't do anything like that and the last thing I ever want to do is make you cry..I've done enough of that."

Mercedes bit down on her lip before she reached out her arms, "Come here." When he came, she wrapped him into a big hug, "I love you."

"I love you too." He breathe out into her shoulder, holding on tightly.

She kissed her forehead before she pulled back, gesturing to the door, "Get to bed. You have be up early in the morning."

"Okay, goodnight." He moved towards the door, speaking to Sam as he made his way downstairs.

Sam made his way to his side of the bed, moving the covers back, he slid in and moved closer to Mercedes, lifting her shirt, he left kisses on her growing belly.

Mercedes giggled as he kissed her stomach, his specks of facial hair tickling her, "Your beard is tickling me."

Sam smiled as he leaned up and kissed her lips soundly, moving his face to the side, rubbing his cheek against hers.

Mercedes squealed as she punched him in the shoulder, "Stop it.."

Sam laughed with a pout, holding his shoulder, "I hope you know that your punches really do hurt."

"Good." She licked her tongue out at him, smiling as she did so.

Sam smiled as he hovered over her, descending his head down to capture her lips into a sweet kiss.

Mercedes wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, she kissed back with every ounce of passion she could muster before she pulled back breathlessly, "I love you." She kissed him one last time before she laid her head back on the pillow, staring into his green eyes with a tired smile.

"I love you too." He moved her bangs out of her face and kissed her forehead, moving to the side, he turned off the lamp and got under the covers, wrapping his arm around her waist to pull her to his front, drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

A/N. Update on NB sequel. As soon as I finish the prequel, it'll be back up! I revamped a lot of the chapters also! Moving on to the story, what do you guys think of Levi? Do you think him and Maverick will get together? And if they do, it will not be right away because Maverick is still nursing his broken heart. As always, Madison and Samcedes are adorable. A lot of you are wondering if we are going to see Brent again..don't worry, he hasn't gone anywhere. ;)
