After getting some much needed TLC from her fiancé last night, Mercedes woke up early Sunday morning in a very good mood. She went downstairs and started to prepare a big breakfast for her family. Humming lowly as she got the items out, she couldn't help but let a smile tug at her lips as she thought about the events that happen last night.
Maverick woke up early and got dressed, remembering the mission to get his mother out the house this morning. He has been wanting to spend some alone time with her for awhile anyways and especially now since he was leaving for Arizona tomorrow. Opening his bedroom door, the smell of food immediately assaulted his nose as he walked towards the kitchen. He went over and hugged his mother from behind, "Morning."
"Good morning baby." Mercedes smiled at him as she hugged him back, "Grab a plate."
Maverick nodded and did what he was told, looking at all the food with a raised brow. She had cooked blueberry and strawberry pancakes, grits, eggs, bacon, sausage and fresh fruit, "Someone's in a good mood."
"I am." Mercedes bit down on her lip as images from last night flashed through her mind, "A very good mood."
Maverick scanned her face and it came to him. Even though it was disgusting to think about his mother having sex, he couldn't pass up an opportunity to tease her. He smirked triumphantly, "You got some didn't you?"
Mercedes looked at him before she avoided his gaze, snatching a piece bacon off his plate, "That's none of your business."
"Mhm." Maverick smiled teasingly before he sat at the table.
"Stop looking at me like that." Mercedes frowned as she sat at the table with him.
Maverick chuckled, "I'm sorry..you just look so happy."
"I am happy." Mercedes smiled at him as she cut up her pancakes.
Maverick smiled, "That's good." He moved back to his plate, letting the peaceful silence surround them for a moment before he spoke up again, "Mom, are you busy this morning?"
"I'm free. What's up?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to go out, you know have a little mother and son time."
"I would love that actually." Mercedes smiled at him, finishing up her meal, she stood up slowly, "Let me go her dress."
"Okay." He said as he stood up also, going to the sink to wash his plate. He then moved over to pack up Sam and Madison a plate, sitting them in the microwave. He wrote a note to let them know that they were heading out. Seeing his mom come back down, he grabbed his keys and led her to the front door.
About twenty minutes after Maverick and Mercedes left, Sam and Madison came down and found the note and their food. After eating their breakfast, they headed to the grocery store to pick up some food to cook for the baby shower. Coming back into the house, they sat the bags down and saw that Quinn, Brittany, Tina, Zoe, Alyssa and Santana were already getting started with the decorations.
"What's this?" Madison asked Santana as she eyed the humongous box in the living room.
"That little munchkin is a box full of loose blowed up pink and blue balloons that I want you to release right now." Santana smirked at her as she placed the table cloths on the tables.
Madison eyes brightened as she moved over to the box, removing the top, she was met with the balloons floating up in the air, "Cool.."
Quinn smiled at her through the kitchen window. Turning to Sam, "She's so sweet."
"Thanks Quinn." He sent her a small smile before he sat down at the kitchen table.
"You know.." She started as she grabbed the bags and candy, giving Sam half so he could fill them up, "I'm really glad you and Mercedes found each other. She was broken for a long time. No one could really tell because she always hid it well but she couldn't hide anything from me." She sighed, running her free hand through her hair, looking at Sam, "But you came in and you fixed her Sam. You made her love again. Hell, you made her do a lot of things that she stopped doing and I can't thank you enough for doing that."
Sam felt his heart tighten up when he heard Quinn talk, "You have no idea how much she has help me too Quinn. Not just with me but being a mother to Madison." He looked over at his daughter, smiling when she saw her helping Tina and Alyssa.
"And she loves her because she is her daughter, Sam. DNA doesn't make you a family, love does." Quinn smiled at him, tying the last blue bow on the bag.
Sam nodded with a smile of his own. He was so happy that Quinn decided to sit down and talk to him about this. Hearing footsteps, he looked up and let out a low chuckle when he saw Brittany placing pink and blue duck into the punch dispenser, "That's cute."
"It has lights in it too." Brittany said excitedly as she flip the switch on. Sure enough, the lights lit up the punch bowl.
"It's beautiful Britt." Quinn said as she moved her bang from her face, turning back to Sam, she stood up, "Come on..we still have a lot to do."
Maverick held Mercedes's hand as they walked through the street market. Even though he was suppose to get her out of the house for a couple of hours while they set up, he wanted to spend some one on one time with her anyways before he left tomorrow. He stopped in front of a jewelry stand and decided he wanted to buy her something.
Mercedes smiled as she leaned against her son. She was happy that they were getting to spend some time together but she was kind of sad that he was leaving tomorrow. When she felt him stopped, she placed a hand on her stomach and sighed, "I have to go to the restroom."
Maverick chuckled as he watched her wobble to the inside of a café, "She's adorable." He muttered before he turned his attention back on the jewelry, causing two small bracelets to catch his eye. Picking them up, he looked at them and smiled, "How much?"
The lady looked at him, "For your mother?" When he nodded, she smiled, "It's on the house."
"Ma'am, I can't just take it..I have to pay you something."
She waved him off, gesturing for him to give her the bracelet so she could wrap it up, "It's not often I see young men coming and buying their mother's anything anymore." She placed it in a box and wrapped a pretty purple bow on top, handing it to him, "You look like a nice young man who loves and would do anything for his mother. I like that."
Maverick grabbed the box, looking at her with a bright smile, "Thank you so much."
"No problem." She smiled before she turned and went to set up some more of her things.
Maverick slid the box in his bag as he walked to the café. Seeing his mom coming out the restroom, he stopped her, "How about we get something to eat?"
"Great, I'm starving." Mercedes smiled as she walked and sat at a table. After a few minutes, the waiter came over and took their orders. Mercedes sprawled her hands across her stomach as she looked over to Maverick, "I'm glad we had this day out together."
"Me too." Maverick smiled as he played with his straw, "Don't get me wrong, I love Sam and Madi to death but I just wanted to spend some alone time with you."
"That's understandable baby." She smiled as she rubbed soothing circles around her stomach, "Are you excited for football camp?"
"I am but you know it's kind of bittersweet because this is my last year."
"God it is isn't it?" Mercedes pouted, feeling tears well up in her eyes, realization finally hitting her, "My baby is about to graduate."
Maverick bit down on his bottom lip when he saw her tear up, getting up from his seat, he went and sat beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, "Mom, please don't cry."
"I'm sorry but that's kind of hard right now." She sniffled loudly, placing her hands over her face.
Maverick smiled down at her, he looked up and saw the waiter come back with their sandwiches, a look of concern etched across his face. He asked did they need anything in a soft voice and Maverick shook his head, turning his attention back to Mercedes, he lifted her chin, "Mommy."
"Maverick." She stared back at him, tears springing from her eyes.
Maverick grinned at her. This was one way that she use to get him to calm down when he was little. She'll just say his name and he would say hers and they would have a staring contest until he felt himself get calm again. He used his free hand to wipe away her tears, leaning in to kiss her cheek, "Since you're already crying, I brought this for you." He took the box out the bag and handed it to her.
Mercedes took a deep breath as she looked at him, taking the small box, she opened it up and gasped, "Mav.." She felt more tears well up in her eyes again, "This is so beautiful." She took in the two metallic gold bracelets, one saying You are my sunshine and the other saying my only sunshine, and slid them on her wrist. Turning to her son, she leaned over and hugged him, "I love you sweetheart, thank you so much."
Maverick hugged her back tightly, "I love you to mama." He pulled back with a smile, "Now lets eat because I'm pretty sure my brother and sister are very hungry." He grabbed his plate and sat it in front of him, not daring to move from her side.
Mercedes smiled sadly as she moved to her food. She didn't know why but she had a gut feeling that she was going to be an emotional wreck all day.
Sam navigated his way through the crowd of friends and family that was in his house when he felt his phone vibrating. Seeing he had a text from Maverick, letting him know that they were pulling up. He turned to everyone, walking over to turn the lights off in the kitchen and living room quickly, "They're here."
Maverick pulled up into the driveway and parked his car. Jumping out quickly, he went to the other side and opened the door for his mom.
"Thanks baby." She smiled as she got out, closing the door behind her.
Maverick wrapped his arm around hers as they walked up to the front door, "Thanks for coming out with me today."
"No problem sweet pea." Mercedes smiled as she stepped up the steps, "I'm glad we got our mother and son time in before you leave."
"Me too." He smiled as he placed his key into the door, unlocking it, he moved to the side so she could go in, hiding a mischievous smirk.
Mercedes squinted her eyes as she stood in the foyer, "Why is it so dark in here?" She moved to the living and jumped when the lights suddenly turned on.
"SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled as they looked at her with smiles on their faces.
Mercedes held her chest as she looked at all the people who was jammed packed in her living room. Placing a hand over over her mouth, she felt her tears starting to form in her eyes for the thousandth time today. She looked around and saw the room decorated beautifully with pink and blue decorations. Gifts were piled up in the corner, their family and friends filled their huge living room. She turned around and looked at her son, who was standing their with a smirk on his face, "Y-You knew a-about this?"
Maverick nodded, "Yes ma'am I did."
She cried softly, hiding her face in her hands. She was officially, emotionally exhausted from all the crying.
"Mercedes.." Quinn started with a smile as she walked over to her hormonal best friend, wrapping her up into a hug.
"I k-know this was you and Tana decided to d-do thh-is." Her words came out muffled as she laid her face into Quinn's shoulder.
"Damn skippy." Santana said from her spot on the couch.
"I swear I cry more with twins than anything.." She wiped her teary eyes as she let go of Quinn.
"I know the feeling honey." Mary said with a smile.
Seeing that Mercedes finally calmed down after awhile, "Lets get this shower started." Brittany said excitedly as she clapped her hands.
Mercedes spent the first two hours of her baby shower laughing at the ridiculous but fun games that her friends had picked out and opening the gifts that her and Sam received for the twins. She went around hugging and greeting her and Sam's family and friends. She got to meet his grandmother and grandfather, who were such sweet people, striking up a very interesting conversation about Sam as a little kid. She made a mental note to ask for those pictures of him as she walked over to hug Luke and Brandon.
"Is it a bad thing that I'm only feeling your stomach?" Luke said with a smirk.
"You're not funny jackass." Mercedes glared at him, before she moved over to hug Brandon. Mercedes sighed in content. She was happy that Brandon could make it. Even though she had no clue about this baby shower, she was just so happy to see him. He was wrapped up in a big case in Dallas that his boss had him going undercover for a few weeks and she hadn't spoken to him until today. To be quiet honest, she didn't see why they couldn't have found someone else do it. He was a detective, way pass the undercover cop phase but she knew he was the absolute best, she just didn't want anything bad to happen to him, "I'm glad you're okay."
Brandon closed his eyes as he held on to her, "I told you not to worry about me."
"Kind of hard not to." She buried her face into his chest, trying to keep her tears at bay.
Brandon placed his head into of hers, "Don't make me cry Mercedes. You know I'm white and my face will stay red for awhile." He laughed into her hair, trying to lighten the mood.
"Sorry." She wiped her face as she let go of him.
Brandon smiled as he wiped her face, leaning in to kiss her forehead softly, "Love you."
"Love you too." She smiled as he gave her one last hug before excusing himself to go get some food.
Madison walked over to Mercedes and wrapped her arms around her waist, laying her head on her stomach.
Mercedes wrapped her arms around her with a smile, "Hey baby girl."
"Are you having fun?" She looked up with a smile.
Mercedes nodded, tucking a loose piece her behind her ear, "Yes I am."
"Good." Madison pulled away slowly, kissing her mother's tummy before she left.
Mercedes giggled at the little girl as she walked away. Hearing her stomach growling, she turned and saw that everyone was busy writing their suggestions down for the baby names and she decided to go to the kitchen for food. Fixing her a small plate, she laughed softly when she saw the ducks floating in the punch, "Brittany.." She said shaking her head. She loved that girl so much.
Sam was talking to Ginger and Xavier when he saw Mercedes slip into the kitchen, "Excuse me for a minute." He walked towards where she was, seeing her sitting down, he pressed a small kiss on the back of her neck.
Mercedes felt shivers go down her spine when Sam kissed her, looking up at him with a glare, "Don't do that Sam."
He smirked knowing that any little touch to her body right now would have them in the bedroom for the rest of the night. Picking up a cup of punch, he pulled a chair beside of her, "Did you have fun today?"
"I did.." Mercedes nodded as she bit into one of the crunchy sliced dill pickles, moaning to the taste, "I can't believe you didn't tell me."
"I was sworn into secrecy and threatened to be cut by razor blades if I told you." He chuckled lightly.
Mercedes rolled her eyes with a laugh, munching happily on another pickle, "My friends are crazy."
"But they love you." Sam bumped his shoulder against hers with a small smile.
"I love them too and I'm so grateful that they threw me this shower." Mercedes smiled before she turned to him fully, wrapping her arms around his neck, she waggled her eyebrows, "Still want to kiss me while I have pickle breath?"
Sam scrunched up his nose, "No." Chuckling when she hit his shoulder, he leaned in and kissed her lovingly, "Just kidding baby." He murmured across her lips.
"You better be." She smirked as she kissed him. She moved back and finished her food before she stood up and threw her plate away. Pulling Sam up from his chair by his hands, she wrapped her arm around his and led them back into the living room. Clearing her throat to get everyone's attention, she smiled when the chatter died, all eyes moving to her, "I just want to thank everyone for coming today, it really means a lot. I want to especially thank my friends for putting this all together." Her eyes traveled to each of them, "Thank you for the gifts, the love and support, and advice that you all gave Sam and I, you have no idea how much it's going to help us through this. I'm starting to babble now and I'm very much on the verge of tears.." She laughed when everyone else did, "I just want to say from the bottom of my heart...thank you again. I love each and every one of you dearly."
"We love you too Mercedes." Tina said as she stood by Mike with a smile.
Mercedes smiled at her. The next thirty minutes were spent saying her goodbyes to everyone and thanking them once again.
Later on that night, the Jones-Evans family packed up all the gifts and placed them in the baby room. Mercedes stayed up with Sam and folded up many of the cute onesies they received and placed them in their respected areas. Maverick had came by and told them that he was going to bed since he had to get up early. Mercedes and Sam retired not to long after. Around five the next morning, Maverick was pulling his luggage and duffle bags with him down the stairs. Since Luke was here, the two were going to fly down to Arizona together. Seeing the cab pull up, Luke said he'll put their things in the truck while Maverick said his goodbyes. Maverick made his way up the stairs, walking around the long hallway, he opened the door that was on the left, the sleeping blonde little girl coming in view. He walked over and sat in her bed, shaking her awake, "Madi.."
"Hm.." Madison tiredly opened her eyes.
"I'm about to go." Maverick smiled sadly as he smoothed her hair down.
Madison sighed as she leaned up and hugged her big brother, biting down on her lip, "I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too Madi but don't worry, I'll call you every night okay?" When she nodded her head, he kissed her cheek, "Take care of mama and Sam while I'm gone. I love you."
"I will. I love you too, Mavy." She smiled as she laid her head back down on her pillow and fell back to sleep.
Mercedes toss on her housecoat tiredly as she walked out her room and down the hallway. She saw Maverick coming towards her and sadly sighed, "You have everything?"
"Yes, I already took everything downstairs." He said as he walked over to her, "Will you walk me out?"
"Mhm." She grabbed his arm and walked walked down the stairs, spotting Sam already standing in the foyer.
Maverick went over and gave Sam a big hug.
Sam smiled as he hugged him back, "Have fun."
"I will." Maverick smiled as he pulled back, seeing Luke come back up and shake Sam's hand.
Luke went over and gave his sister a hug, "I'll take care of him."
"I know you will." Mercedes patted his back as she hugged him.
Luke kissed her cheek before he exited out of the house.
Maverick let out a breath as he went over to his mother, hugging her tightly, "I love you."
"I love you more." She laid her head down on his shoulder for a few seconds before she leaned up and pressed a lingering kiss on his forehead.
Sam crossed his arms over his chest as he leaned against the threshold, looking on between them.
Maverick hugged her one last time before he let go. Looking at them for awhile before taking a deep breath, "See y'all later."
Sam came up and wrapped his arm around Mercedes's waist, pulling her closely when he saw the sad look on her face, "Just a few weeks baby."
"I know." She looked at him as he got into the cab, waving when he waved at them. Seeing the cab pull off, she stood back and let Sam close the door. The couple headed back up the stairs to get in their bed for some much needed rest.
