Mercedes stood in her office examining her stomach in her restroom mirror. She couldn't believe how much she has grown since two weeks ago. At the appointment yesterday, Dr. Kline had told her and Sam that it was a good sign that the twins were very healthy. She smiled at the thought of that. She was so glad that her babies were doing good. Hearing a knock on her door, she leaned over and peeked out, smiling when she saw her secretary, "Hey."
"Hey, I don't mean to bother you..." She started as she walked towards her desk with two pieces of papers in her hands.
Mercedes waved her off as she turned off the light and made her way to her desk, "No, it's okay. What's up?"
"I just need your signature for your maternity leave papers." She handed them to Mercedes as she sat down, smiling at her stomach, "I can't get over how adorable you look pregnant."
Mercedes giggled as she sat down, blushing at the compliment, "Thanks babe." She grabbed a pen read over them before she signed off. Mercedes was going to work for the rest of this month, August, and maybe until mid-September if her doctor allowed it. Since she was going to stay working, Laura pulled her from going to court so she wouldn't be stressed. Instead, she will be assisting her other colleagues with any cases if they needed it, "Here you go."
"Thank you." Lindsey smiled as she took the papers back, "And you have a visitor." She disappeared with a smirk on her face before she could ask who.
Mercedes frowned as she stood up, "Who could it be?" She mumbled to herself as she walked to the door, her hand immediately going over her mouth, her eyes filling up with tears.
Maverick held out his arms with a big smile, "Surprise.." He walked over to her and hugged her.
Mercedes hugged him back tightly the best she could, "W-why didn't you call?"
"I wanted to surprise you." He chuckled lightly, rubbing her back lightly, he pulled back and wiped her tears, "Hope those are happy tears.."
"They are. I'm so happy you're home." She smiled brightly as she cupped his face, leaning in to give him a sweet kiss on his cheek. She took him in and could see how mch he has matured over the last month. She ran her hand over his hair and giggled, "What the hell are you boys doing with this hairstyle these days?"
Maverick chuckled as she ran her hand through the curly part of his hair, "It's nice though."
"If you say so.." She smiled as she stepped back to wipe the remaining of her tears. She had missed her son and if she was crying now after him only being away for a month, she can't imagine what she is going to be like next year when he leaves for college.
"Are you busy? I brought us some lunch." He gestured to the bags that were sitting on Lindsey desk.
"Never too busy for you." She pinched his cheek and turned around walked back into her office, "Come on, I want to hear all about it."
Maverick smiled as he grabbed the bags and followed behind her. He was so happy to be home.
Sam tossed his phone on the boardroom table and ran his hands over his face. He had just texted Mercedes to let her know that he was going to be working late again tonight because he had to finish piecing up this case he was working on. It was already pass nine and he just wanted to be at home with his girls.
Levi stood up from his spot of the room and walked over to Sam, "Do you need anything?"
"Yes." Sam looked at him with tired eyes, "I need for you to go home.."
Levi shook his head, "I'm good.." He looked around and saw everyone working on something, "Just give me something to do.."
"Levi.."
"Sam.." He challenged him back, folding his arms across his chest, "I want to help with something."
Sam sighed as he looked at him, letting out a small breath, "Okay, there are some papers on my desk that need to be typed into emails and sent to people. All the information is on there and the password to my computer is underneath the calendar."
Levi nodded and started for the door, "I'll get right on it."
Sam shook his head with a smile, turning back to his colleagues, "Alright. My fiancée is pregnant and pissed off with me right now, so lets get started so we all can go home."
Levi has been going nonstop for thirty minutes. With four emails sent out, he only had two more left to do.
"I appreciate you doing this." Sam said as he rounded the desk and opened up the drawer, pulling out more files.
Levi shrugged, "Thought I'll give you a hand, seeing how busy and stressed this case has you." He looked up at him, "Are you not done yet?"
"Not even close." Sam said as searched through the folder, pulling out two information slips, reading through to make sure he had the right ones. His head shot up when he heard a knock on his door, a smile taking over his features when he saw who it was, "You're back."
Levi turned his attention to the door and he could've sworn his heart stopped at the sight of him. Biting his lip, he turned his attention back to the screen.
Maverick smiled at Sam as he walked fully into his office with container in his hand. He went over and gave Sam big hug.
Sam hugged him back, "I'm glad you're home man.." He pulled back to look at him, eyebrows knitting up in confusion, "What are you doing here?"
"Mom sent you some food and a message.." He looked at him in amusement, trying to keep from laughing at what his mother said, "I'm going to give you the PG version of what she said. She wanted me to let you know that when you do get home, you're sleeping in the guest room."
Sam sighed as he looked at him, fixing his mouth to say something but he decided against it. He let out a low grunt as he grabbed the papers and container Maverick had in his hand, mumbling a thank you as he walked back out.
Maverick chuckled softly before he turned to Levi, greeting him with a warm smile, "Hey.."
"Hey." Levi said with a smile of his own, "How was your trip?"
"Eventful." Maverick said as he plopped down in one of the chairs, "But fun..even though it's my last one, it was fun."
"That's good." Levi nervously moved the papers around on the desk, looking back at the screen.
"What are you doing?" He asked curiously.
"I'm helping Sam out with some emails since he's busy."
"Need any help?" Maverick stood up and came around the the desk, looking at the screen, honestly just trying to be noisy and see what he was doing.
"I think I'm good." He looked up and gave him a smile. But once he did that, it was like he couldn't look away.
Maverick looked at him when he felt him staring, brown eyes searching his with a confused smile. He didn't know why but the way he was looking at him made his heart flutter a bit.
Levi continued to look at him, the smell of his cologne filling up his nose had him on the edge. He had to admit that he has had a crush on Maverick since they've began their friendship but he didn't let him know that.
Maverick didn't know what made him do it but he decided to throw caution in the wind and lean down, his face millimeters away from Levi's. He placed his hands on each side of the arm rests, "Levi..."
Levi leaned up and pressed his lips against Maverick's and he felt like the earth has stopped when he did so.
Maverick felt an instant spark as he kissed him back, deciding to take this slow. He moved his hands to the front of his shirt and pulled him up from his seat.
Levi was leaving small kisses on Maverick's mouth but all sudden, it was like he had regained his senses. He pulled back abruptly and stared at Maverick, taking a few steps back, "I'm sorry..I can't." His words rushed out as he grabbed his phone and keys from the desk.
"Wait." Mav cursed under his breath as he tried to catch up with him, seeing the elevator close. He let out a groan, kicking a nearby trashcan "Shit."
Mercedes hummed softly as she transferred the french toast to the glass platter. She reached other and turned the two skillets off when she saw the bacon and sausage was done cooking. Feeling a pair of arms wrapped around her, she sighed, instantly knowing who it was.
"I'm sorry." Sam whispered into her ear, kissing her neck softly.
Mercedes sat the spatula down and looked over her shoulder, "I overreacted and I'm hormonal so please forgive me." She pouted as she turned around, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Sam bended down and kissed her lips softly, murmuring against them, "You don't have worry about anymore long nights..I handed to the case off to Jane last night."
"Babe, you didn't have to do that." She felt a pang of guilt starting to hit her.
"I wanted to and don't you dare start to feel guilty." He could tell when she was about to blame herself for something, "I was getting stressed out and losing sleep from it anyways."
"Okay.." She sighed as she looked at him again, running her free hand over his cheek, "Grab a plate." She turned back around and moved the meat to the paper towel.
Maverick made his way down the stairs in a huff. Last night was absolutely crazy. He couldn't believe Levi kissed him but he wasn't mad about at all. He actually liked it. He actually liked him. But like a fool, he came on too strong and scared him away. He called and texted him to apologize but he didn't answer. Sighing as he came into he kitchen, "Good morning."
"Morning." Sam said as he took his plate to the table and sat down.
Maverick went straight to his mama and wrapped his arms around her, burying his face into her shoulder.
Sam laughed quietly at the scene before he went back to eating. Their height different was quite comical if you asked him.
"What's up with you?" Mercedes asked as she patted his back, letting go, she fixed him a plate and handed it to him.
"Nothing.." Maverick grunted as he let go, "Thank you." He took the plate and sat at the table, frowning when he notice his sister wasn't there, "Where's Madi?"
"She's with my parents for the week." Sam said as he sipped down some of his coffee.
Mercedes eyed her son strangely, biting into a piece of bacon, "I told you that when you came back last night Mav."
"Oh.." He ran his hands over his face, grunting loudly, he decided to go ahead and let then know what happened, "Levi kissed me last night."
Sam eyes went wide as he felt his coffee go down the wrong pipe, causing him to begin choking.
Mercedes patted Sam's back, trying to mask her facial expression.
"He kissed me. I kissed him back and then he basically ran away from me after that." Maverick rushed out before he put his head down.
Sam patted his chest repeatedly, calming down, he reached for the glass of water and sipped it down.
Mercedes looked at Sam with an I told you this was going to happen look. She sat down in the chair and turned to her son, "Do you like him?"
"As a friend yeah. I really didn't think about a relationship with him because I was just getting over that nasty breakup with who shall not be named and I didn't know if he was gay or not.."
"Well you got your answer." Sam mumbled as he bit into his french toast.
Mercedes laughed softly at her fiancé, "Babe hush." Her eyes scanned back over her son, "How do you feel?"
"Honestly, I don't know." Maverick said truthfully as he picked at the tablecloth, "I just want to talk to him but he's not picking up his phone."
"Just give him some time to think, he'll come around." Sam said as he looked at him.
"Hopefully." Maverick sighed as he stood up, "May I be excused."
"Sure baby." Mercedes watched as he picked up his plate and headed back up the stairs. She turned back to her Sam with a smirk, "I told you."
"I didn't think that Levi was gay to be honest."
"It's always the cute ones." Mercedes giggled softly as she picked up her fork and began to eat.
Sam chuckled as he moved closer to her, placing his hands on her stomach. He began rubbing sooth circles against it, "Do you think they'll date?"
"Honestly?" She smiled when he began to rub her stomach, "I don't know."
Sam let a peaceful silence take over them for a few minutes. He smiled when he felt one of the twins kick his hand, making him think of something, "We should take some family photos."
"That sounds like a great idea." Mercedes said excitedly.
"Yeah? How about this weekend? I know a great photographer."
"I would love that." She leaned down and kissed his lips softly, letting a moan slip from her mouth.
Sam pulled back with a smirk, "You up for a quickie?"
Mercedes eyes brightened as she stood up from the chair, pulling Sam from out of his, moving as quickly as her short legs and pregnant belly could take her.
You got me sippin' on something
I can't compare to nothing
I've ever known, I'm hoping
That after this fever I'll survive
Maverick was walking towards the entrance of the park. He had gotten a text from Levi wanting him to meet him so they could talk. He didn't know what to expect for this at all but he would accept whatever happens. He sighed when he walked up and sat beside him on the bench, "Hey.."
Levi looked up and gave him a half-smile, "Hey.." He sighed as he turn away, fidgeting with his hands, "I'm really sorry about the other night. I shouldn't have done what I did.."
I know I'm acting a bit crazy
Strung out, a little bit hazy
Hand over heart, I'm praying
That I'm gonna make it out alive
"I'm not sorry for what you did." Maverick whispered quietly as he looked at him.
Levi stared at him for a minute before he turned his attention towards the lake, "I like you..I have for awhile now."
"I like you too." Maverick let a small smile take over his lips.
"But I can't be with you.." He rubbed his sweaty palms on his jeans, "Remember how I ask you how your mom reacted when you told her?"
"Yeah.."
"Well, I pretty much know how dad is going to react and I don't think I can handle the disappointed on his face."
Maverick looked away, feeling a little hurt by what he said but he couldn't blame him. He felt the same way about telling his mom but everything turned out okay, "I understand.."
"W-we can still be friends though, right?"
"Of course.."
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
Levi bit down on his lip before he turned to Maverick again, feeling that familiar tug towards him that he always felt and decided to do what his heart told him to. He grabbed him by his shirt, the same action that he did last night, pulling him closely to him and planted a kiss on his lips. He really did want to see where this would take them but he was also legit scared of what he dad would think.
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
Maverick was caught off guard by the kiss but that didn't deter him from kissing him back. He smiled against his the older boy's lips, titling his head to the side.
Levi let out a throaty moan before he pulled back, his breathing rigid as he stared back into the eyes of the boy he has fallen for. What the hell am I going to do?
Maverick looked at him sighing. He leaned in and left a small peck on his lips before he stood up and walked away. He really hoped that he would change his mind but he wouldn't push him to do it.
The heart wants what it wants...
A/N. So this update was Maverick centric but I have my reasons for it! Do you think him and Levi will get together? Do you want them to get together? Don't worry, Madi will be back next update! Btw, the sequel to NB is up. :)
