The Matrimony- Wale ft. Usher

A few weeks has passed since Sam, Mercedes and Madison came back from Miami and things couldn't have been better for the Evans family. With Nicole officially out of their lives, that Monday when they came back, Sam put a restraining order against her family. He was done playing games with them. He needed them out of their lives for good and he was so glad that they were. Daisy even transferred to another school. He was relieved that it was all over. Sam smiled as he looked over at his kids, who were all drinking their hot chocolate. They had spent the morning getting things they needed for Thanksgiving and the rest of the afternoon at the fall festival. This year, everyone was coming over to their house and he couldn't wait.

Mercedes leaned over and wiped the whip cream off a chuckling Mckenzie's face. She couldn't help but smile at how cute the little girl was.

Savannah laughed softly at Mckenzie. She was trying to figure out how she got the whip cream all over her face in the first place.

"Dad, are you sure going to make it to the play next Friday?" Spencer asked as he picked up his cup, sipping down the rest of the chocolate goodness.

"Yeah buddy, I'm going to make it. I promise." Sam smiled at him. Since Sam lost the case a few weeks back, he court ordered a retrial and the judge immediately granted him one. He has been going through the evidence again nonstop, causing him to spend long nights at the office.

Mercedes smiled as she looked at him, kissing his lips softly. She pulled back with a chuckle at the groans from their kids, "It's almost over.."

"I know. I have this one in the bag this time." He smiled at her, kissing her again. He was so grateful for his wife. She has been so supportive of him like always throughout these last couple of months.

Mercedes smiled against his lips before pulling back, looking over at their kids, "Alright you three..put your jackets on so we can go home and prep for tomorrow." She watched as they nodded and got up to put their jackets on.

Sam stood up and placed a tip on the table, bending down to help Mckenzie with her jacket.

The little girl smiled brightly as she grabbed his hand, "Thank you daddy.."

"You're welcome sweetheart." Sam smiled down as he grabbed her hand back. He waited patiently for everyone before they headed to his truck. Once everybody was buckled in, he pulled out the parking lot and drove home.

Maverick thanked the waitress before she left. Sitting at a table in the secluded corner, he tapped on the coffee cup anxiously as he waited. Seeing his phone vibrate, he looked down and saw it was Madison telling him to relax and that everything was going to be okay. He took a deep breath and texted her back before putting his phone away. Every since the unimaginable conversation he had with the twins and Kenzie a few weeks ago, he's been thinking about things.

"Hey there stranger.." A voice said from behind him.

Maverick smiled as he turned, looking up into the familiar pair of blue eyes, "Hi.."

Brent smiled as he walked around and sat in the chair. He was happy to get a call from his friend. Him and Maverick were still close despite him living in San Diego, "I'm glad you called..how are you?"

"I'm doing good, how about yourself?" He asked with a small smile.

"Better now." Brent said as he looked him, blushing slightly at his own words.

Maverick put his head down, feeling the heat creep up on his neck. He cleared his throat as he continued to play with the handle of his cup.

Brent tore his eyes away from him when the waitress came up. He ordered himself a hot green tea with honey, thanking her when she left, "We haven't talked in awhile..I feel like you brought me here to tell me something."

"I'm sorry about that. I've been extremely busy with work and other stuff.." He drifted off as he tried not to stare at him.

Brent raised a curious brow, "Other stuff? You're not getting married are you?" He asked jokily but seriously wanting to know the answer.

Maverick chuckled, shaking his head, "No..I'm not getting married. I think you have to actually be with someone to be married."

Brent let out a sigh of relief when he heard his answer. He thanked the waitress when she brought him his tea. He had to admit, his heart did stop beating momentarily. His love for Maverick never went away. Eight years ago, he made the worst mistake anyone could ever make. He cheated. He cheated on his boyfriend for a whole year and it's not a day that goes by that he doesn't hate himself for it. Even though Maverick forgave him, he still believed that they would never get back to where they were and he was right. They did talk through college but it wasn't the same. But over the years, Brent went to counseling and leaned a lot about himself that he didn't even know. It helped a lot up talk to someone about your problems. His therapist even suggested that Maverick be brought in for a session. Although that session wasn't easy for either one of them, things couldn't have been better for the longtime friends since that day.

"You okay?" Maverick asked when he noticed the distant look on his face.

Brent snapped out of it and looked at him, nodding quickly, "I'm fine..I was just thinking how grateful I am to have you in my life."

"I am too and that's part of the reason I ask you to come here tonight.." He said softly and quietly before he looked at him. He took a deep breath before he stood up.

Brent looked at him confusedly when he stood up, watching him walk to the piano that was sitting on the stage of the café, "What is he doing?"

Maverick sat down at the piano, placing his hands on the correct keys to get the melody going. Once he got it, he opened up his mouth and let the lyrics flow.

If there's a question of my heart, you've got it

It don't belong to anyone but you

If there's a question of my love, you've got it

Baby don't worry, I've got plans for you

Baby, I've been making plans, oh love

He watched as teenage boy got up from his seat and gestured towards the mic, he nodded as he continued to sing.

Baby, I've been making plans

Baby, I've been making plans

Baby, I've been making plans for you

The boy got on the stage and turned to crowd and began rapping the next part.

My sincerest apologies, I mean it

I'll admit it, all being pathetic

I'm in my late 20s still never been to a wedding

Guess the idea of that lobby empty do not sit with me well

It's not your fault they try to get me, cause I'ma need to sail

Cause I'm selfish and I need you to myself

Tryna see you afloat but don't wanna see you on sale

Cause I failed and see you bout to cry

Cause when I enter they city they leave without they pride

And I'm sorry, and you starin' at my comments

Fearin' it's gone always be you sharin' me with all them

Wrong, how dare I say ignore them

Preparing for that day, I leave you here and switch you for them

It's hard, you know temptation and all

Out here tryna see if my relationship's strong

Get a place in the charts or runaway from your heart

Gave this music my all, nothing is sacred no more

I'm wrong

But I'm promisin' you better though

And your friends sayin' let him go

And we ain't gettin' any younger

I can give up now but I can promise you forever though

Brent couldn't help but smile as he looked at him. Something about this man always amazed him. He blushed deeply when he listen to the lyrics.

If there's a question of my heart, you've got it

Maverick stared directly at Brent as he sung, meaning every single word he was saying.

It don't belong to anyone but you

If there's a question of my love, you've got it

Baby don't worry, I've got plans for you

Baby, I've been making plans, oh love

Baby, I've been making plans

Baby, I've been making plans

Baby, I've been making plans for you..

He cut the song short, smiling when the café clapped for them. He got up from the seat and shook the young man's hand and thanked him for helping him out. Maverick walked down and headed back to his seat, pulling it closer to Brent. He looked at him and reached for his hands, "Brent, I love you. Despite everything we have been through and we've been through a lot of shit, my love for you never stopped. Us rebuilding our friendship was everything to me and the last couple of years, I'm grateful that we could rebuild it but I'm tired of being just your friend, I'm tired."

To say he was shocked was an understatement. Brent felt his eyes fill up with tears. He did not expect this at all when he agreed to meet him. He tried to say something but nothing would come out.

Maverick grinned as he leaned over and wiped his tears away. He stared at him for a moment, letting his eyes drift down to his lips. He moved in and placed a sweet kiss to them. Its been a long time since he have done it and it felt really good.

Brent kissed him back with every ounce passion he could muster. He have missed this. The closeness. The expressing of their love. He would be a idiot to give this up again. He pulled back and wrapped his arms around him for a hug.

Maverick smiled as he hugged him back, "So I'm guessing this is answering my next question?"

Brent nodded as he looked at him, sending him a watery smile, "I love you and I promise I will not fuck it up again."

Maverick nodded as he stood up, grabbing some cash out of his wallet to place on the counter. He grabbed Brent's hand and led him out the café, "Lets get back to my place. We have a lot of catching up to do..if you know what I mean." He sent him a small smirk before pulling him in the direction of his car.

Thanksgiving went on without a hitch. Both of their families had came and the excitement was to a ten in the Evans household. The night before, Mercedes had her little assistants help her and that turned out to be adventure especially with little Mckenzie. They had made enough food to feed the town and that exactly why Mercedes was happy they did. After dinner, she packed up all of the leftovers and took them to a local shelter. Giving back is always something she has done since she was a little girl and that's something she has been teaching her kids to do.

Mercedes sat with her legs tucked underneath her on the couch, watching her husband carefully. Sam had told Mercedes that he wanted to learn how to do the girls hair. He wanted to know how because some mornings, he knew Mercedes would have to be at work a little earlier than other days and she wouldn't have time to do it. Even though he did Madison's when she was little, Savannah and Mckenzie had a different texture than her. Mercedes rolled her eyes playfully with a smile when Spencer came and sat in her lap, "You know you're too old for this right?"

He chuckled as he leaned back onto her, sending her a lopsided grin much like his father, "I know.."

Sam nibbled on his bottom lip as he looked down at the hair before him. He have watched Mercedes numerous times when she did. It shouldn't be that hard, right? He took the spray bottle and sprayed a little of the mixture over Savannah's head, sitting it down on the table. He took the comb and attempted to make a straight part down the middle but it came out crooked, "Am I doing this right?"

"Yes, you're doing great baby.." Mercedes said with an encouraging smile, even though she could tell the part wasn't straight.

Mckenzie sat on her knees beside Sam on the couch, giving her daddy a major side eye, "Daddy, that's not straight."

"Mckenzie.." Mercedes warned the little girl, shaking her head.

Mckenzie tucked her lips in and sat back on the couch, folding her hands in her lap.

"What?" Sam looked back down and sighed, "I can't do this babe."

"Never say can't in this house Sam, you know the rules." She patted Spencer thigh so he could get up. She got off the couch and went to the other side of him. She took the comb and straighten out the part, taking the brush to brush out her hair on either side, beginning to braid the left side first, "Since Savannah hair is thick and curly, it's kind of hard to handle. I think it will be easier for you to start with Kenzie."

For ten minutes, Sam watched Mercedes closely as she french braided Savannah's hair. He looked over at Kenzie with a smile, "Are you going to let me do your hair?"

Mckenzie smiled as she nodded, climbing into his lap excitedly.

Savannah stood up and stretched a little, thanking her mom. She leaned forward and gave Sam a kiss on the cheek before she moved to sit by her brother, "At least you tried daddy."

Mercedes nodded as she handed Sam the comb back, "Alright, this one right here, her hair is easy to do. It's shorter and not as thick as Savannah's. You should be fine."

Sam nodded as he took the spray bottle and repeated the action he did earlier. He then took the comb and this time, perfectly making a straight line down the middle. He then took some of the coconut oil and rubbed it in his hands, moving them to make sure he got her edges good. He bit down on his lip as he brushed the left side up, tying the hair tie on, not too tightly then doing the same to the right side. He looked up at all the faces with a proud smile.

"Not bad dad.." Spencer said as he looked at his little sister with a smile.

"Daddy, you did really good." Savannah said as she got up and walked over to Mckenzie, giggling when she saw her eyes light up.

"I wanna see.." Mckenzie squealed out as she jumped from his lap and started to run to her room.

"Stop running in this house little girl." Mercedes called out, seeing the small body of her daughter slow down as she walked up the steps. She turned to the twins, "You guys go ahead and get dressed so we can go to the store. Help your sister too."

"Yes ma'am." They both said before they headed up the stairs.

Sam laid his head back on the couch, letting a sigh escape his lips.

Mercedes walked over and straddled his lap, wrapping her arms around him with a smile, "You did very good for your first time.."

Sam chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her waist, looking up, "It was hard as hell but it was something I needed to learn how to do."

"And you did.." She leaned down and pressed a long kiss on his lips.

Sam smirked against her lips as he moved his hands down her backside, giving her ass a little squeeze before he settled his large hands on her hips.

"Seriously, get a room you two." A voice called out from the entrance of the living room.

Mercedes chuckled as she reluctantly pulled back, sending her son a glare as she rolled off of Sam, "It's our house.."

Maverick laughed loudly as he took off his jacket and sat down on the couch.

"Well if it isn't Casanova." Sam said with a teasing smirk, laughing loudly when he saw his face, "I can't believe you didn't see her."

"Yeah, me either." Maverick said with a shake of his head. While he was serenading Brent at the café the other day, Madison was somewhere in the audience recording him. She texted the video to their parents as soon as he was done.

"You know it reminded me of that night when you both sung to each other. Everyone was in their feelings that night." Mercedes chuckled at the memory, looking at her son with a smirk, "But is everything good between you guys?"

"Couldn't be better. We spent some time together before he went back to San Diego that night. I'm happy to say that we're officially back together.." Maverick announced happily.

"Yeah, I sure as hell couldn't tell when you came in yesterday with swollen lips and bite marks down your neck." Sam muttered underneath his breath.

Maverick eyes turned into saucers, covering his face with his hands, "God that's embarrassing."

Mercedes laughed as she looked at him. She could tell yesterday that her son was fully happy again. The shit that happen between them when they were teenagers was just that. They were still teenagers. Two sixteen year old boys still trying to figure themselves out. And even though she was mad at Brent for hurting her baby, she always knew deep down in her heart, he never meant to do it, "Well as long as you are happy, I am happy."

"I am momma, I am. He's it for me." He said with a big grin on his face.

Sam smiled as he looked at his son, wrapping his arm around his wife, "Hopefully we'll be seeing wedding bells soon."

"Soon, very soon actually." He smiled when he saw the look on his mother's face. He let out a grunt with he felt Mckenzie jump on him. Chuckling softly, he picked up his little sister and kissed her cheek.

"Alright everyone, lets get out of here before traffic builds up." Mercedes said as she stood up, pulling Sam with her. When they got outside and in the truck, the family headed out into town for a day of shopping.

A/N. Thank you guys so much for the encouraging words & birthday wishes. It meant a lot to me. There are only TWO more chapters left and I'm so sad about it, lol. But where one door closes, another one opens, hint hint, wink wink. If you didn't get it, it means that I have another Samcedes story in the works. I'm far from done with my OTP. Hope you stick along with me for another ride, :)
