TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE TALK
Sam shut down the laptop and sat it on the table, looking over at Madison, who was still staring at it. They had decided to watch the video Allison had sent Mercedes and truthfully, he felt the same about her, "What are you feeling?"
"In all honestly dad, I feel nothing." Madison spoke as she turned her head to the side to look at him, "Just hearing this, only made me madder than what I already was. She knew that her mother was that way and instead of getting help early on, she chose to follow in her footsteps. All of this could of been prevented. If she knew she was going to be just like her mother, she should've did the right thing and gave me to you. There's no excuse for that and I don't forgive her." Madison shrugged as she stood up, folding her arms across her chest as she stared at her father, "I don't need closure from her, I don't. I'm good. That was just a bad chapter in my life that's over with. I learned from everything she did to me. I now have a real mother who is polar opposite and I'm glad because she's teaching me exactly what a REAL mother and a woman should be like."
"I think you're still hurting." Sam said bluntly as stood up, standing in front of her, "And that's okay but you still need this closure."
"Dad, I don't. I'm fine. I don't need closure. Why? Because it's not going change the fact that she beat me. It's not going to change that fact that I needed therapy when I seven. It's not going to change the fact that I wanted to kill myself in middle school because everyone kept teasing me about not having a real mother. It's not going to change the fact that I have anxiety and depression problems still. It's not going to change the fact that even though I got better over the years, I'm still going to have to deal with it all."
Sam froze when he listened to what she was saying. He knew about the anxiety and depression but he had no idea she wanted to take her life, "Why didn't you tell me you was thinking about committing suicide?"
"Because.." She drifted off as she wiped her tears away, "I just..I didn't see the need to if I didn't do it."
"You should've came and talked to us, Madison." He didn't mean to yell at her but he was hurting. Hurting because he didn't know his daughter was. He didn't think that she could get to a point where she wanted to take her own life.
"I couldn't dad, I just couldn't. That's why I started going back to therapy and it helped me. It was a rough patch, I just felt really bad about life and myself but I got through it." She wiped her tears away angrily, seeing the disappointment on his face on made her sad because he was right.
"What is going on in here?" Mercedes asked as she came in, shutting the door behind her. She was downstairs getting breakfast ready when Savannah came in and told her that they were upstairs auguring.
"Ask your daughter." Sam in a hurt tone. He grabbed his phone and shoes, walking out the room, leaving Mercedes more confused than when she came in.
Mercedes turned to look back at Madison, watching as she sat down on their bed, "Madi, what happened?"
"Dad is mad at me because I didn't tell him about.." She sniffled as she tried to catch her breath, "I was thinking about committing suicide awhile back."
"Oh baby." Mercedes said quietly as she felt her eyes starting to water, wrapping her around around the teen.
"I'm sorry mama, I really am." She cried loudly as she buried her face into the woman's chest, holding on to her for dear life, "I-I never wanted to but I just had this voice inside of me that said I needed to and that I would feel better when I did."
"Baby, shh." Mercedes held onto her tightly, rocking them side from side. She pressed a small kiss to the side of her head, "I want you to know that you are loved. We love you so much, sweetheart. Your brothers, sisters, me and especially your dad. He's not mad at you baby and you know that. You know that he's probably just blaming himself." She leaned back and smoothed down the teen's hair, staring back into her tearful green eyes, "You have no idea how much you mean to us..to me. I don't want you to ever forget that, okay?"
Madison nodded silently as she held on tighter, burying her face into her shoulder. God, she was seriously messed up and she was trying her best to do something about it.
"Maddy." McKenzie said quietly as she came into the room, watching the scene before her in tears, "Why are you crying?"
Mercedes looked at the little girl before letting go of Madison for a minute, watching as the older girl turned away from her sister. Mercedes picked McKenzie up and led her back out the door, "I want you to tell everyone to go to the living room."
"But daddy left." She said sadly as her eyes never left her mother's, chewing on her bottom lip.
"I know, he went to take care of something." She sat her on her feet and turned her around, patting her butt lightly, "Now go."
Kenzie looked at the door again before letting out a sigh, her small feet pattering against the hardwood as she went to do what her mom said.
Mercedes ran her hand through her hair and went back into the room, finding Madison curled up with her eyes close, she knew that she had instantly cried herself to sleep. She walked over and kissed her cheek, picking her phone up off the bed and heading out, dialing her husband's number. Getting his voicemail, she cursed him internally before leaving a message, "Get your ass home now." She said as she angrily hung up, walking down the steps, she peeped around the corner and saw all four of the kids seating down, talking amongst themselves.
"'Mommy, what's going on?" Savannah asked curiously as she held an antsy Brayden in her arms.
"I wanted to talk to you about something really important." She said as she came in, sitting in between them on the couch. She smiled lightly when Kenzie came and sat on her lap.
"Where's Madi?" Spencer asked confusingly when he noticed the teen didn't come down with their mom.
"She's sleeping." Mercedes answered as she took a deep breath, looking at them all before she began to speak again, "You guys know me and your father love you very much, right?" She watched as they all nodded, "I know it's been a while since we've discussed a lot of things but we're going to do that now. Remember how me and daddy told you that the world is not always good? And how all people are not always going to be nice?" She watched as the trio nodded silently again and she gave them a sad smile, "There are going to be stuff in life that will try to bring you down but we want you to be prepared. That why me and daddy are always telling you guys things."
"Is everything okay with Madi?" Savannah asked quietly, noticing how her mom was about to give them a serious talk.
"Madison will be fine but she's a big reason why I'm talking to you now." She looked at them carefully, "This is serious my loves. I need you to know if there's anyone or anything bothering you, you let us know. If you're going through something and just feel that you can't take it anymore, which leads your thoughts to a bad place, talk to us. If not us, then Maverick, your aunts, uncles or grandparents."
"Did Madi try to kill herself?" Spencer asked all of sudden, realizing quickly why they were having this talk. He watched as his twin eyes went wide and looked to his mother.
Mercedes bit down on her bottom lip at the question, "She didn't try, she was just thinking about it but it wasn't recent, a few years ago."
Savannah felt her eyes welling up with tears, holding onto her little brother stronger, "Does she think we don't love her?"
"Because we do." McKenzie said as her little face scrunched up, turning red as tears began to fall, "I love her."
Mercedes pulled her closer to her chest, kissing her forehead as she wiped her daughter's tears away, "She knows, I promise she does. She was just so scared and she was hurting." She rubbed her Kenzie's back to sooth her, looking over at Spencer, she noticed how quiet he was, "Spence, what are you thinking?" He didn't reply. Instead, he got up and walked out the room, running up the stairs, slamming the door to his bedroom. Usually Mercedes would punish them if they walked out and ignored an adult when they were talking to them but she didn't because she knew he was hurting. Her kids were so mature for their ages. They understood a lot of things kids their ages didn't even know but needed to because her and Sam actually took out time to talk to them. They knew the seriousness and severity of what could've happened, which is why they were really upset. She looked up when she heard the front door open, half expecting Sam but it was Maverick.
Maverick came into the home with a smile on his face but it dropped immediately when he saw them, panic rising in his chest as he went further into the room , "What's wrong? What happened?"
"A lot, I'll explain to you later but can you watch them for me please? I need to take care of something." Mercedes asked as she pressed a kiss to Kenzie's forehead before sitting her to the side and standing up.
"Sure." Maverick watched as Savannah stood up and walked over to him, handing him Brayden before she turned and headed up the stairs, McKenzie following behind her as well. He watched his mother pick up her keys and head out the front door. Looking down at his baby brother, who was staring back at him, "What the hell is going on Bray?"
Mercedes shut off her car when she pulled up into the parking space, shutting the door and locking it. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail as she walked to the building, taking a calming breath before opening the door. Looking at the two men, Jeremy and Taylor, who was at the desk, "Is he here?"
"Shit." Taylor mumbled to himself before nodding.
"Good." Mercedes said as she handed them her keys, sliding off her kimono, leaving her in her black tee. She placed both of her hands in front of them, "Wrap them up."
"You're not going to kill him, are you?" Jeremy asked curiously, removing her wedding ring from off her finger. He grabbed the cotton wraps and began wrapping her hands.
Mercedes pursed her lips as she glared at him, causing him to tuck in his lips and continue with his task. Once he was finish, she back away from the counter and headed into the back. She looked around the spot, finding the blonde in the back ring. As she walked, his back was facing her and she caught the trainer's eyes, gesturing for him to get out. She climbed up the steps, parting the ropes to get in.
"Let's take five, Sam." Heath said as he took off of his gloves and backed away. He knew something was about to go down between the two and he needed to leave immediately, "Or ten."
Sam took off the gloves and wiped the sweat from his forehead, turning around, he jump when he felt contact to his shoulder, "What the hell?" His hand went up to rub his aching shoulder, eyes going to his very, pissed off looking wife, "You hit me."
"You should've answered my call." She said matter of factly before she moved closer to him, pushing him back, "Sam, I promise you, I feel like hitting you in your face right now."
"Go ahead. It's not going change the fact that I'm a shit father." He said sadly, wincing when he felt her fist make contact with his nose, causing him to drop to the ground, "For fuck sakes Mercedes."
"I'm pretty sure that this is borderline domestic violence, even if they're not in their home." Taylor said as they looked on in shock from the doorway.
"Yeah but it's Sam and Mercedes..they don't hate each other."
"It's none of our business." Heath said as he pulled the two away from the door, giving them their privacy.
Mercedes took a deep breath before grabbing a towel that was hanging off the rope, handing it to him as she sat down, "I'm sorry." She looked at him as he put the towel to his nose, "But we need to get some things straight. You shouldn't have left Sam. I know you were angry but you shouldn't have left. Your kids needed you..I needed you and you wouldn't pick up. I left four kids at home in fucking tears because I had to explain to them what was going on. They are hurting."
Sam shook his head as his took his eyes off of her, titling his head up as tears began to gloss over his vision.
"You're not a shit father, far from it." She moved his hand from the towel and held it for him, "Baby, our kids love you. They look up to you. Hell, you can't do wrong in their eyes, I'm always the bad guy." She chuckled as she stared him for a moment, her free hand moving the wipe the tears from his cheek, "'Madison is going to be okay. She's strong and even though this was just a few years ago, she is a completely different girl now."
"I guess you're right."
"I am right." She smirked as she moved the towel away, wincing when she saw how bad his nose was, "Shit. You need to go to the hospital."
Sam grunted as he looked at his wife, feeling his nose starting to ache, "Help me up."
Mercedes stood up and grabbed his arms, helping the taller man to his feet. She gave him a sad smile as she leaned forward and pressed a light kiss to his lips, "Before they put me in jail for this, just know I'm sorry and I really do love you."
Sam let out a low chuckle as he wrapped his arms around her for a hug, "I'm not going to let that happen." He tighten his grip around her for a moment, kissing her temple, "Thank you and I'm sorry for leaving."
"All is forgiven. Just make sure you talk to them, they are really shaken up." She felt him nod and she looked at him with a grimace when she notice his nose starting to turn purple, "Okay, let get you to the hospital." She walked over and parted the rope for him, following behind. She held his hand as they walked down the steps and out the gym. She watched as the guys eyes went wide when they saw Sam and she sighed, grabbing the scissors to cut the wrap off her hands. Once she was done, she put her ring and kimono back on and exited out of the building.
After a long visit at the hospital, the two were finally home. The doctor had said that he was going to be fine and thankfully the contact from the "door" didn't break his nose, only made it crooked. They cleaned it up and made him place an ice pack on to reduce the swelling. He had painfully straighten the nose back up and gave him some pain meds. Mercedes sat her keys down on the counter, noticing how quiet the house was, she headed for the kitchen. Opening up the fridge, she saw that there was Chinese takeout boxes with her and Sam's names on it, "Maverick brought food. Are you hungry?"
"Yes but I'm going to go check on the kids first." Sam said quietly before walking out the kitchen. He first checked the back hallway downstairs to see if Madison was in her room, seeing the door open and an empty bed, he turned around and headed up the stairs. He went to the first door, which was McKenzie's room, seeing she wasn't there, he closed it back. Going down further, he opened the door to Spencer's room, he wasn't there either and then went to Savannah's, same results. Sighing, he headed back down the hallway and up the second flight of stairs, seeing Maverick coming down with Brayden from the movie theatre, "Hey."
"Hey da-oh damn. What happened?" Maverick asked in shock as he stared at the man's face. What the hell is going on today? he wondered.
"Your mom punched me, no big deal." Sam shrugged as he grabbed his baby boy from out of Maverick's arms, kissing his cheek, "Where's everyone?"
"We are in a suffering silence and then they went to their rooms. Wait, mom punched you?" Maverick asked in disbelief, throwing his hands up in the air, "What's going on today?"
"A lot, I'll tell you later." Sam said as he patted his shoulder before walking pass him.
"That's the same thing mom said." He mumbled, letting out a frustrated grunt as he walked down the stairs in search for his mom so he could get some answers.
Sam opened the door to Brayden's nursery and that is when he found them. They were all sitting on the floor talking. He cleared his throat to get their attention, "Hey guys."
"Daddy." McKenzie said as she got up from the ground, hugging him tightly around his waist.
"Dad, what happened to your face?" Spencer asked quietly as he went to his father, staring at his barely bandaged up nose.
"That's not important right now." He said as he walked further into the room, taking a seat on the rug and putting Brayden down in the middle, "I want to apologize to each of you. I'm sorry I wasn't here with mom earlier to talk. I know she covered everything but I just want you to know to never be afraid to come talk to us, ever. No matter how small or big you may think it is, it doesn't matter. We always going to be here for you. And I love each of you to pieces. Y'all are my world, and nothing is going to change that."
"I love daddy." McKenzie said with a smile as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.
Savannah leaned over and hugged him tightly before letting go, "I love you dad."
"I love you too, dad." Spencer said with a smile, matching his little sister as he gave him a hug as well.
Brayden was looking at the interaction confusedly before he crawled away and went to his toy chest.
Madison smiled at the little boy before looking back at her dad, "I love you daddy and I promise I won't keep anything from y'all again." She held out her pinky for him to take and when he did, they both leaned forward and kissed their pinkies. Letting go, she moved her hair behind her ear, "And I've talked to them. I let them know everything. When I mean everything, I mean from what happened with my egg donor to things that went on over the years that led me down that path. I love you guys so much and you're a big part of why I couldn't go though with it. No matter how hurt I was, I knew that hurt couldn't amount to what you all would've felt if I selfishly took my life."
"We love you Madison." Maverick said as he appeared at the door, a sad look plastered on his face, finally getting the answers he was looking for.
"I know and I'm sorry." She said as she looked at them before leaning over to grab a squealing Bray, kissing his cheek, "Group hug."
Mercedes leaned against the doorframe and smiled, watching the siblings do one big embrace. She was happy to see some smiles on their faces after the day they all had.
A/N. Let me start off by saying in no way do I condone domestic violence nor is it a joking matter. I had to make that clear because I can almost guarantee someone was going to say something about it. Anyways guys, I'm back with this story, it seems that I have an attachment problem to it lol. In all seriousness, this chapter was hard to write but I thought it was very important to discuss things like this. I told you guys from the jump that I'm realistic and a lot of the plots that goes on in my stories are going on in this world. It hard to write but it needs to be done.
