Part 1 of 2
OoOoOo
The mate of a medusa is the only creature in the world, immune to that Medusa's might power. The curse of turning everything they see, into stone. Like that of the King Midas of old, everything a Medusa touched; anything a medusa attempted to look upon, turned to stone. Cold. Hard.
Stone.
Stone that had no feeling, no purpose, no warmth. It was all the same in a Medusa's world. So, in that respect, a mate was a highly valued thing. Often, it was a human or another Medusa. Though, granted, one was always weaker than the other. It was not known as to why, or who would be the one weakened. However, it was known that Medusa, much like the snakes they were cursed to be akin to, were highly... territorial.
They were the only light in a Medusa's unjust, but forced lonely existence. That and those that had been accepted into a clan of Medusa. For some reason the curse seemed ineffective by the family members of the mated Medusa. Therefore, as all Medusa grew, under the protection of their mothers and fathers, they learned of the highly sought after mate. The one that would care for them, despite their unflattering appearance and ability. Thus it was for Lukas Bondevik, the first born male Medusa of his line. His little brother, was still sheltered in the family home, until he learned to control his curse a bit more.
That meant that he had to stop taking off the special glasses that they were required to wear, so that everyone around them was not turned to stone. However, in their world, there was one small blessing. The curse could be reversed through a purification ceremony. Yet, because it was a lengthy and complicated ritual, most chose to avoid the Medusa clans.
Other monsters, like them, knew of their affliction, and some even still chose to associate with them, despite what they were. Lukas found most of this rather tedious as he stared at the stone walls of his home. Marble and Granite gleamed back at him.
OoOoOo
His little brother found his mate in a werewolf named Bertram. A Danish werewolf that Lukas instantly hated. Unfortunately, it meant that he was introduced into the family. Which meant that the elder brother could not turn him into stone. It was beyond aggravating.
Lukas was loathe to admit that he hadn't even known there were werewolves in Denmark. He shuddered for his brother's fate. Bertram encourages Emil to leave the house, for the first time since they met a year ago. Lukas is dragged along, because he is the eldest son and responsible for his younger brother.
OoOoO
It was a blow from behind.
That damned annoying werewolf had been playing around like the flea bitten dog he was, and ran straight into Lukas without even realizing what he was doing. The deranged hound. Lukas could only watch with dispassionate horror, as his glasses were knocked from his face as he sought to catch himself before he smashed face-first into the grass. Which was already instantaneously changing to stone. Various colors of slate, granite, and metamorphic rock shimmered under the sunlight.
A park full of people.
In the split second before he hit the ground, Lukas internally groaned. He was going to have to explain this. And, fill out the police report with the monster's division. Damn that mongrel!
He shut his eyes, catching himself on his hands and knees as he hit the hard ground. He was furious with the mutt. If he was already going to have to file an incident report, he may as well make it worth it.
"Oh hey, sorry Lukas!" The said, hell-bound bastard, mongrel called out with a tone that suggested he wasn't all that 'sorry'. Lukas turned, from his prone position, as wings sprouted form his back, shredding the clothes he wore.
Bertram gaped at him as Lukas grew in size, his legs melding together to form a serpent tail. Several species of snakes sprouted in place of his hair as scales formed on the once unblemished skin. The snakes hissed with the Medusa's wrath. Their scales hardened as he prepared to beat the other into submission for his foolishness. Lukas' eyes, which were the only thing to link him to his heritage, narrowed at the werewolf. Vertical reptilian slits were nearly bathed in fury.
"Idiot." He snarled, as the snakes lashed out to strike at the werewolf.
Bertram hesitated for a fraction of a second before leaping back. He could tell one simple fact. Apparently, and he wasn't quite certain as to why, but Lukas seemed... upset.
"Hey... buddy! Let's talk about this." he whimpered out in a tone that still was unnaturally happy for the situation.
Damn dog!
Lukas was unamused. His gaze was turning everything to stone. Within a certain radius. The people in the park, the trees, the animals, froze in place. Wherever they were, because he was nearly irresistible to gaze upon with their human like curiosity. He was going to end that sunny and bright eyed bastard.
His little brother seemed to jolt into action then. Shedding his human form to protect the managing flea bitten thing, shoving Bertram behind him as their snakes hissed with obvious agitation. That only angered Lukas more. The bastard was at fault here. How dare he cause such a scene?! How-
"Oh, what the hell?!" A feminine voice shouted out, and for some reason, Lukas paused in his need for rampaging. He turned his slited eyes toward the noise.
Amongst the stone, and unmoving figures, was a single female. Blonde hair swayed in the breeze, and she was staring at him with an expression of sheer disbelief. The snarl that was working its way to Lukas' throat ceased. As he gazed upon the only still moving creature that did not belong to their clan.
... Yet.
Mate.
Lukas stared at her. Bertram was, for once in his life, wisely silent. Emil did not lower his guard for an moment, but he quickly closed his eyes, so that he would not look at the woman. He even turned his head. While Lukas could not effect her, Emil could. Until she was accepted into the clan. He kept a firm grip on Bertram. Unwilling to leave him unguarded for even a second.
The elder Medusa was nearly hypnotized by the woman. Her blue eyes widened as he slithered slightly closer. His snakes coiled, as it to look less threatening, the hissing stopped all together. As sirens wailed in the distance.
Lukas twisted this was and that to get a better look at her.
"Uh..." The woman said looking around with confusion. "Hey?"
He did not smile, he did not wave, he did not even seem to be breathing at the small question. Or was it a greeting? He wasn't entirely sure. Lukas simply, could not believe what he was seeing. The woman in front of him was his. His to protect. His to defend. His to love. The one to love him.
"... okay, then." She said leaning slightly to look over at the other two that had a helping hand in the disturbance.
Bertram started to snicker, and Lukas' mate started backing away from them, as fast as her legs could carry her.
Unfortunately for her, he had already memorized her scent.

Things Amelia learned about being a Medusa's mate: Day 1.
1) Somehow... they will find you. And, calling the police will do nothing, because as a Magical creature they have certain rights. This includes, stalking you. Oh joy.
2) You must tell said Medusa that the Pizza delivery man is invited to your home. As long as he has pizza. Otherwise the Medusa is liable to believe that the man is courting you, and turn him into stone. Which will freak you right the hell out when you open the door, to look around. Wondering why your pizza is over half an hour late. It will be the shortest but most awkward conversation of your life.
By far.
3) Close your window. AT ALL TIMES. The Medusa that is now, dare she say, slightly obsessed with you, will be watching from any vantage point from a nearby tree. Not even in a perverted sense, but because he is worried that another 'Pizza' guy might be trying to take advantage of you. Which is ridiculous, and you will argue this point with him for the next hour. Even though you really don't want to talk to him at all.
4) Medusa's are not a fan of the bitter taste of coffee. When you politely offer them some, in their human form- because they looked so sad out there in your tree just watching-, they will look at it as if you have offered them piss-water.
5) Telling a Medusa to 'Go away', or 'Leave me alone'. Will be thoroughly disregarded, and will almost make the Medusa smile.
6) You must tell a Medusa if you have male siblings, before they come home. Otherwise the same thing that happened to the Pizza guy, will happen to them. Explaining this to your parents will be a pain in the ass.
7) Their family will shower your family with gifts, and then tell you that you needn't worry about a 'dowry'.
8) Your family will suddenly like the Medusa, and say you are being too hard on him.
9) Trying to flee from the Medusa will only result in the blonde menace following you around, muttering about how he has to keep you 'safe' and 'Would you quite screaming fire?'
10) When you realize you forgot your wallet in your haste to get the hell away from him, the Medusa will buy you something to eat and drink because you are his 'Mate'. Other monsters will then stare at you as if you are the only thing keeping them from being mauled by a 300 lbs gorilla.
OoOoOo
Waking up to a Medusa staring at you, was still a wee bit disconcerting. Especially since Amelia didn't exactly remember falling asleep in the first place. Or being in a park. Then again, yesterday had been a bit... rough. She blinked up into the slit pupils of the medusa. His glasses were actually very fashionable and did make him a bit more handsome. Though she had to admit, he had such a serious face and expression all of the time.
Well, for the like... 20 to 40 ish some odd hours she had known him anyway. Actually, she didn't know what time it was.
However, even knowing him for over a day, did not change the need to scream like a banshee at the sight of him staring at her.
"OH DEAR LORD!" Amelia screeched as she did an impressive half twist before falling off the bench.
The Medusa blinked down at her.
"Is this... do all humans act as you do, mate?"
She blushed, sputtered, and then stared at him as if he had two heads. Did he seriously not get it? Had he, no conceivable idea... at all... why she might be freaking out just a wee bit here? Really? This was news to him?
"I think I am acting just fine." She snapped back, straightening her shirt and fighting the spots of color, high on her cheeks.
The Medusa said nothing, but she could just sense him judging her. Of course that might have been her imagination. She fixed her own glasses which were slightly askew, and blinked blearily at the outside world.
Only to gape at the seven statues staring back at her. The medusa glanced between them and her.
"They attempted to disturb your slumber," he said factually, "I did not approve."
Amelia made a noise that was half way between a cough and a laugh. Because he was perfectly serious.
OoOoOo
Things Amelia learned about being a Medusa's 'mate': Day 2.
1) They hover. A lot.
She tried in vain to keep a bubble of three feet between them. Apparently he took exception to that. The further she tired to get from him, the closer her got to her. She glared at him.
"Do you mind?" She asked in her frostiest tone.
"Not at all." He responded in a monotone fashion hat left her second guessing whether or not he understood her biting question.
2) Medusa do not like making small talk. And, four hours of wandering city streets leaves quite a bit of silence between you.
3) Their Brother's 'Mate' will randomly find you. Which will make the Medusa very, very annoyed.
Amelia was half contemplating jumping on the nearest bus and seeing just how far she could get, from the tall stranger, when the guy from the 'incident' as she was dubbing it... or the 'Curse from not giving a dollar to charity when asked', appeared out of nowhere. Like a fart carried by the wind. She didn't even truly have the time to comprehend what was happening, before the Medusa was shoving her behind him and hissing at the other monster.
4) Medusa are heavy.
She had to try and punch him in the kidney's for some breathing room between him and the building. Which didn't seem to bother him at all. In fact he didn't even bother to hiss at her.
5) When you try to escape because the Medusa wants to annihilate the Werewolf, he still will manage to track you down.
Amelia was mentally cheering her awesomeness, having managed to hail a taxi to take her home, and had even gotten the chance to pay him after she let herself into her house. When she put the kettle on for some relaxing tea, then she was going to take a quick shower and hide at a motel or hotel for a few days. She had finished packing, and jumped in for a quick rinse off, as the water boiled, and started to whistle.
She didn't bother with getting dressed, just wrapped a towel around herself and padded on bare feet into the kitchen, to fix her cup.
The next sound that registered was the shattering of porcelain on the kitchen floor as she glanced into the same slit pupils as before. The nearly impassive face of the Medusa registered, as she became painfully aware of her state of undress.
6) Medusa are capable of blushing.
He stared at her for a moment, his pale skin slowly flushed crimson, and she couldn't help but notice that he wasn't exactly looking at her eyes anymore. Amelia let out a yelp and retreated back to the bathroom.
7) Eventually, you have to come out of the bathroom.
Though she still wasn't happy about it.
8) He'll clean up the mess, and make your tea in the three hours it takes you to finally convince yourself that you can't live in a 20 square foot room for the rest of your life. But he won't say anything. Not even when your family comes home and gushes about what a cute 'couple' you make.
9) A medusa won't disagree when your mother says you should start living together as soon as possible.
10) By the time you go to bed that night, and shut your curtains, wondering how your life ended up this way... You'll second guess yourself. Because, maybe, he really hasn't been all that bad to you.
OoOoOo
By the third day, Amelia was weirdly used to her constant male shadow. Though she did keep glancing to the side or behind her every now and then. His snake-like eyes followed her every move. Which was growing less and less unsettling. However, she still wasn't quite in the 'comfortable' range yet. She took them to the library, on foot, which was a mile walk, but she wasn't letting him in her car.
The cool air was a near blessing, as she went to the first computer available and started typing in the search box for everything and anything related to medusa. The musty smell of books, and aged leather were soothing to her as she meandered through the isles looking for every scrap of information she could find.
He eyed her speculatively.
"You could simply ask me, anything you want to know."
She froze at his unexpected comment. Yes. Yes she could do that. But she flustered at the thought of actually talking to him. Amelia cleared her throat, trying not to blush or break into hysterical laughter at the fact a creature like a medusa was trying to get her to talk to him now. Where was this... two days ago? Oh gosh, it had really only been two days.
"Yeah..." Amelia replied in a distracted manner.
The Medusa drew closer, as if he craved the heat of her skin. They were merely inches apart. His eyes were nearly hypnotic as she noticed for the first time that he wasn't 100% scary.
"What do you wish to know?"
Her thoughts scattered, her heart thumped painfully in her chest. Nothing came to mind. What to ask? There was so much!
"What's your name?" Her mouth moved on its own accord. Forming silly things like speech, when her mind couldn't put together a single thing.
"Lukas."
OoOoOo
Things Amelia learned about being a Medusa's mate: Day 3
1) His name is Lukas.
2) His brother's name is Emil. And, yes, he hates the Werewolf called Bertram.
3) He doesn't understand why Bertram even tries to be friendly with him. Because he hates Bertram.
4) No, that's not an exaggeration. He really hates Bertram.
5) He really likes Amelia.
She blushes at that fact he tells it to her so blatantly. She can only avert her eyes as he stares at her. And, some part of her would love to deny it, say there are prettier girls out there, smarter girls, better girls for him. And, while that's likely true, they would all turn to stone. Amelia won't.
6) Medusa's highly value their mates. Which means, to Lukas, there is nothing and no one in the entirety of the world that matters more to him than her.
Its a humbling thing and she feels a little teary eyed at it.
7) He want's to get to know her. And, he will never force or hurt her. But... he will turn other males to stone if she talks to them.
When she asks if that includes family, he tells her to let him think about it for a while. Immediate family, such as her brother Mattie or her father, are fine. Cousins were still being decided.
8) He wants her to meet his family. But she can only look at them if they have their glasses on.
Amelia gulps.
