Destiny's POV
I blink my eyes groggily and groan. My head starts to pound, causing me to groan again as I bring a hand to my forehead. I swallow hard, trying to moisten my sandpaper throat. As my eyes adjust to my surroundings, I gasp with surprise.
I'm back in my room. In Storybrooke.
I rub my head, confused. How did I get back here? Did we cast the spell? I search my memories, only recovering the one when the spell didn't work. Did it actually work without us realising?
The sound of metal colliding with the ground startles me from my thoughts. I glance at the ajar door. Where is Nova? Stretching the fatigue out of my leg muscles, I get off the bed and make my way downstairs.
I stretch, popping my back, as I make it into the kitchen. "Nova?" I call out, straining my ears for another sound. Another metallic bang is made in the back of the kitchen. Looking around, I grab a spatula for protection. I head deeper into the kitchen. As I round the last table, I'm greeted with a groaning Nova, sprinkles all in her tangled hair.
I lower the spatula and giggle. "How is it that you always wake up in the kitchen?"
She replies with a moan. I grab her arm, hoisting her up. She stares at me with her sleepy eyes.
"It was the last thing I thought about when we were casting the spell," she murmurs.
"About that... do you remember the spell being cast?" Nova shakes the sprinkles out of her hair absentmindedly, her face thoughtful.
"I remember it not working and us going back to our tents." She shrugs. My forehead creases with confusion.
"But if we're here, then it must have worked, right?" Nova reassures me. I shrug.
"I guess." Nova glances at the clock and gasps.
"It'll be time to open soon! I've got to start baking." I grin as she rushes around the kitchen.
"It's good to be home," I say. Nova pulls a smile at me before busying herself.
Even with all of the confusion, we still had customers wanting cupcakes. I guess old habits die hard. I smile as I give Grace, Jefferson's daughter, her cupcake before turning back to the kitchen.
"How's it going in here?" I ask Nova. I don't spot her at first but then her head pops up from the oven, flour all over her face.
"Going good! You know, I've been thinking..." She huffs as she pulls a tray of cupcakes out of the oven. "Maybe it's time to hire more arms. I know Jefferson is looking for a job."
I raise an eyebrow. "Isn't that a conflict of interest?" I tease, leaning against the doorframe.
Nova laughs nervously. "No." She plays around with the cupcakes. "I don't know what you're talking about."
I grab a rag beside me and chuck it at her. "Get back to work."
The bell rings behind me. Grinning, I head back to the front counter. My eyes widen with surprise. Standing at the counter are David and Mary Margaret. Mary Margaret has one hand behind her back and one caressing her heavily pregnant bump. My jaw drops at the sight.
"How..." Mary Margaret laughs.
"To be honest, I don't remember how this happened but it happened!" She beams. I smile warmly at them, giving them both a hug.
"Well, congratulations! I'm so happy for you guys." As I take their order, Nova pops her head in with curiosity. She pulls a shocked look at Mary Margaret. A loud squeal bursts my ear drums as Nova rushes out, pulling Mary Margaret into an awkward hug.
"Congratulations! Is it a girl or a boy?" She asks excitedly. As Mary Margaret and Nova change the subject to baby clothes, I glance at David, an uncomfortable look on his face.
"David?" I ask, watching him as he shakes his head, snapping himself out of thought.
"Sorry, how much?" He asks opening his wallet.
I stop his hand. "It's on the house."
"Thank you."
I hand him the cupcakes. "Are you sure you're okay?" David smiles.
"Yeah. It's just... you know, one minute, we were in the enchanted forest and the next minute, we're here and Mary Margaret is pregnant. She's been talking about getting a midwife. I just-" He sighs, "It's a lot to take in, I guess," he explains. He lets out a small laugh. I smile.
"Don't worry, we're all trying to re-adjust to this place. Soon, all you'll be talking about is baby stuff." David tries to maintain his smile.
"I hope so." Taking hold of the cupcakes, David guides Mary Margaret out of the shop. The ring of the bell announces their exit. Nova stands beside me.
"How's David?" She asks.
I sigh as I watch them pass the store window. "Stressed. This is their first baby since Emma. I think he's scared of being a dad again."
"Speaking of Emma…" Nova trails off, eyebrows furrowed. "How do you think she's taking it?"
"I'm not sure." I look up at the clock and sigh in relief. Only 30 more minutes before we close. "After we close up, we can go visit her. I'll call her and see if she wants to meet us at the Diner."
Nova nods and heads back to the kitchen as I help more customers.
After finishing the last order of cupcakes, Nova and I clean and lock up the shop. From across the street, we could see Emma seated alone near the window of the Diner, staring at her drink with deep thought. As we make our way to the Diner, a voice stops me in my tracks.
"Hey, beautiful." I turn to my side, my lips curving up into a smile.
Leaning against the wall of the next shop, is Killian, his arms crossed over his chest. He flashes his mischievous smile at me.
I rush and pull him into a tight hug.
"I was wondering when you were going to show up." I pull out of the hug and intertwine my fingers with his.
"Sorry. I didn't know you were missing me," Killian grins as he leans in for a kiss. I press my finger against his lips.
"Not so fast, mister. Mind explaining where you were the whole day?"
He shrugs nonchalantly. "Exploring my new home, love. See, last time I was here, I was cursed so I didn't really get the chance to take in the sites."
He lays his arm around my shoulder and we walk to Granny's. "How come my shop wasn't on the list of sites?"
"Because I was hoping I'd get a more in depth tour tomorrow on your day off."
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "I don't have tomorrow off."
"Yes you do!" Nova pipes up from in front of us.
"Since when?"
"Since now." Nova spins around, a cheeky grin across her face.
"Killian told me his plans and I thought it would be nice if you two had some time to spend alone. I mean, after what you've been through..." I hold my hand up, stopping her. I stare at Killian, a smile creeping across my face.
"I guess it would be nice." Nova claps her hands together like an excited child.
"Now can we make a move on, we have someone to see." I roll my eyes at her as we head to the door.
As we enter, the Diner goes silent. Several eyes aim directly at me. My eyes sweep awkwardly around the room, meeting every emotionless gaze.
"Cut it out already! Everyone is welcome to this Diner and if anyone thinks otherwise, then you can leave!" Granny bursts out at the crowd. Reluctantly, everyone turns their heads away. Granny nods at me. I smile in return, quietly thanking her, before seating myself opposite Emma.
"Hey Emma. You ok?" Nova smiles, though it didn't reach her eyes. I could tell that Nova didn't want to push her.
"Guys," Emma groans. "You don't have to treat me like a little kid. I'm a grown woman! I think I can handle my parents having another kid." She takes her coffee and goes to get a refill.
I look at Killian who takes my hand under the table. "You are her friend. Even I can tell that she's hurting. I need to go for a bit. I'll see you tomorrow morning." He leans over and kisses my cheek before getting up from the booth.
I watch as Killian and Emma make small talk by the door before they separate. Once Emma sits back down, I decide to be straight with her. "Are you sure you're okay with your parents having another kid?"
She looks at me, then at Nova before sighing, "Honestly? I'm kinda mad." Emma traces the top of her cup with her finger, avoiding eye contact.
"I get that at the time, my parents had to abandon me because of Regina and the curse. But growing up was hard, you know. Having to live in foster homes and watch other kids get adopted and not me. And now, when I feel I'm getting closer to them, they're expecting another child." She pauses before waving her hand dismissively.
"I'm sorry. I sound like a jealous little kid, begging for attention from her parents." I touch her hand gently.
"It's understandable what you're feeling. But I guess you have to put yourself in their shoes. And besides, who knows better how it feels to give up a child than you. I know the circumstances are different, but the painful feeling is still the same."
"And you should know how much they love you. It's hard to miss," Nova adds. Emma glances over her shoulder at her parents. She turns back, a convinced smile across her face.
"You guys are right. I better go over and help them. They're trying to find a midwife." She rolls her eyes but smiles, "Thanks guys." Taking a deep breath, she makes her way to the back of the Diner.
_THE_NEXT_DAY_
I wake up to sun streaming through my curtains. I know for sure I shut them last night…
"Morning Sleeping Beauty!" Nova exclaims from somewhere in my room, confirming my suspicions.
"Did you open my curtains?" I groan, rolling over and burying my head in my pillow.
"Yep! I had to make sure you weren't late!" She shuffles through my closet.
I decide that I should make sure she doesn't break anything. I slowly pull myself from the comfort of my bed. "Late for what?" I ask, leaning on my closet door frame as I watch Nova go through my clothes.
"Your tour date with Killian, of course!"
I slam my hand to my forehead. "I totally forgot about it!"
"That's." Nova hands me a handful of clothes. "Why you have me! Now get dressed!" She orders. Grinning, I disappear into the bathroom.
As I re-appear into the room, I am met by a gasp of surprise from Nova. I stare down at my white dress, my arms and waist covered with lace. I glance back at her.
"How do I look?" I ask, uncertain. Nova giggles with excitement as she approaches me. She plants both hands on my shoulders.
"You look gorgeous! Killian will definitely not be able to take his eyes off you," she teases, nudging me in the shoulder. I push her away, feeling my cheeks warm up at the thought of Killian.
"Thanks." I pick at the hem of the dress. "Are you sure it's not too dressy? We're just walking around."
Nova waves away my question and plugs in a curling iron. "So what are you guys?"
I sigh and sit at my vanity. "I'm not sure. I'm hoping we can talk about it today, actually."
Nova starts to curl my hair and we settle into a comfortable silence.
I curl bits of my hair around my finger as I turn my phone screen on and off, checking for notifications. I lean against the wall of our shop and sigh. Where could he be? I glance towards my right, my eyes widening at the sight.
Strolling towards me, is Killian. A casual, blue collared shirt and dark jeans replaces his usual leather costume. Except for the black leather jacket. He awkwardly adjusts his jacket and runs his fingers through his fringe. Meeting my eyes, he pulls his heart stopping smile.
I step away from the wall, "I don't believe we've met?" I stick out my hand, "Destiny."
His smile stays in place as he pulls my hand to his lips. "Killian." He replies before kissing my hand gently. I blush and pull my hand away.
"So where do you want to go first?" I ask.
"You're the expert." He bows, "My day is at your command."
I smile. "I have the perfect place."
Killian grins. "Well, lead the way."
"Well, that was fun." Killian replies as we stroll towards the dock. I rest my head against his shoulder.
"It was." I turn my head up at him. "Especially the part when you spat out your coffee." Killian's cheeks turn bright red. I laugh at his expression.
"What? The taste was awfully bitter. I don't understand how people can drink something like that!" He stares sternly at me before laughing helplessly.
"A true pirate." I smile, winking at him. Killian stops abruptly and looks around.
"This is it?"
I giggle. "I knew you'd like it." With Killian being a pirate, I knew he'd hate our dock. It's small, dirty, and only has a couple fishing boats.
He scrunches up his nose in disgust. "This is the most foulest dock I've ever seen!" I bite my lip, stifling my laughter. I curl my arm around his.
"Don't worry. I didn't bring you here to admire the dock."
"Well I hope not!" He looks around, then furrows his eyebrows in confusion. "There is nothing else here."
"I was wondering if," I look down at my shoes, becoming very nervous. "You'd show me your ship?" There's a moment of silence. I look up to find Killian smiling. "What?" I ask, growing self conscious.
He grabs both of my hands and plants them on his chest. "I'd love to show you my ship."
He lets go of one hand, lacing his fingers through the other and takes us to the other side of the dock. Then it was my turn to be confused. "I thought you've never been to this dock."
"I haven't." He pauses and looks up in thought. "Well consciously. I docked my boat while I was under that spell. I still remember where it is but I don't remember anything about this dock. Don't worry, I would've remembered such a vile place." He shudders and I roll my eyes at his theatrics.
After a couple minutes, Killian stops us at the edge of a pier, grinning. I frown as I find myself staring at nothing but water. I look up at Killian.
"Killian, there's nothing here."
He lets go of my hand and lifts his foot over the edge of the pier. "Killian!" I yell but he just smirks, putting his weight on his suspended left leg. Then it disappears. I stand there, gobsmacked as he steps further into the invisible thing.
"Killian?" I step closer to the edge and cautiously stick my hand out. A hand appears out of thin air and grabs mine, pulling me over the edge. I scream, closing my eyes as two arms wrap around my waist, pulling me close.
"You can open your eyes, love." I open my eyes to see Killian smiling defiantly.
I push him off. "Was that really necessary?"
"I couldn't waste a good scare!" He teases, an amused smile on his face.
Placing a hand on my racing heart, I stroll around the ship, admiring it.
"So what do you call it?" I ask, tracing the wooden edge of the ship.
"You mean 'her'. She's called the Jolly Roger." I glance at him with a playful grin.
"Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to insult your 'woman'," I tease as I lean my back against the edge. Killian walks up to me and leans his back beside me.
"This ship is more like my baby." He side glances at me. "I've already got my woman." Blushing, I curl a strand of hair around my ear. Killian's fingers slip in between mine. He stands in front of me and stares into my eyes.
"You know. You're still that same Destiny I've known since childhood. You have that same sense of humour. That same smile. I've never felt like I could be myself with anyone but you. For some time, I thought I'd never see you again but here you are, with me." Gently, he caresses my cheek with his fingers.
"I love you, Destiny. And I promise I will always protect you and I will always love you till the day I die. Will you be my." He huffs and whispers, "What do they call it." His face lights up with realization, "girlfriend!"
I gasp as he pulls out a beautiful, golden locket from his pocket. My heart melts and my eyes swell up with tears. "Of course I will," I reply as Killian places the necklace around my neck. I twirl around, then pull him into an excited hug
"I love you too," I whisper into his ear. He smiles, cupping my cheek and pulls me close for a kiss.
Nova's POV
I grab a rag out of my apron and wipe my brow with the back of my hand. Now I definitely think we need to hire people. Luckily I had thought ahead and made a lot of cupcakes last night but those batches are running low.
Huffing, I wipe the tables. My mind drifts off to Killian and Destiny. A smile spreads across my face. I hope they're having a nice time, I think to myself. The ring of a bell shakes me from my thoughts. I shove the rag back into my pocket and quickly rounded the counter.
A pretty, smartly dressed woman approaches the counter. Her ginger hair dangles down with curls at the ends and her lips are strikingly red. Her pale, green eyes stare into mine. A shiver runs down my spine but I shake it off.
"Hi, what can I get you?" I ask politely. The woman smiles.
"What would you recommend? Sorry, It's my first time here. I heard you make the most scrumptious cupcakes in town," She replies sweetly.
"Well, that's the first time I'm hearing that but I can usually tell by the way they dig into them," I reply modestly. I study the cupcakes we have. "What do you not like?" I ask.
"Coconut." She replies.
I nod and continue my search. "Ah!" I exclaim. "I found the perfect one for you! Now if you haven't noticed, our cupcakes are named after fairytale characters. For example, we have White as Snow Vanilla cupcakes for the character Snow White, Royal Dark Chocolate for the Evil Queen and a Gold and Green sprinkled yellow batter cupcake for Rumpelstiltskin. Of course that's only some of them."
I grab a chocolate cupcake with dark green icing and a black fondant hat. "Sadly, we don't have any hero cupcakes that are green but I think you'll like the Wicked Witch cupcake." The woman grins with the corner of her mouth.
"Perfect. I'll take it."
As I pack her order, a thought crosses my mind. I shift my attention to her.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you new in town? I don't remember seeing you around..." I trail off as the woman glances at me from her purse.
"No. I've been here for a while actually. I'm just one of those people who keep their distance if you know what I mean," she waves off.
"So what do you do?"
"I'm a midwife." I stop.
"A midwife? Speaking of midwifes, there's a friend of mine who's in need of a-"
"Would her name happen to be Mary Margaret?" She interrupts. I nod, placing her order onto the counter.
"Yeah! How did you..." The woman takes the packet from the counter.
"I just met her on my way here. When I heard she was in need of a midwife, I jumped at the chance. A very nice woman," she replies.
"She is. You couldn't be with a nicer couple! I hope you enjoy your cupcakes and that you'll return soon to meet my sister!"
"You have a sister?" She asks.
"Yeah, Destiny. She usually works at the front while I bake but she has today off," I explain.
"I'll make sure to come back tomorrow! Thank you so much for the cupcakes." She turns to leave but I stop her at the door.
"Wait! I didn't catch your name!"
She turns halfway towards me and smiles.
"Zelena. And yours?"
"Nova," I reply. Nodding politely, Zelena walks out of the shop. The name plays around in my head. Zelena. I furrow my eyebrows. Why does that name feel so familiar? Shrugging, I go back to wiping the tables.
