Chapter Twelve

For the past three weeks Noriko has been occupied with training with Rin and Shura, being Mephisto's maid, being called to help Yukio with certain duties like helping him write reports and going on small missions with him, on top of all that, doing school work. She hasn't been able to really talk to Ryuji or the others before being swept away by Mephisto, Rin, Shura or Yukio. When Ryuji texted her, she was able to read them but never had the motivation to keep up with responding to them. Being too tired and not wanting to bug him with her problems, she only responded with short texts and emoticons.

Ryuji on the other hand was getting really pissed off for the first few days, but after seeing Noriko only a few times a week he saw that she was on the verge of passing out, or already passed out on the desk in the classroom. And since he kept his promise with her about keeping their relationship a secret he wasn't able to go over to her and comfort her. As some time went on, he would completely ignore her and let her have her space. The sad part was that both of them were comfortable leaving each other alone so they can focus on their own individual work.

One day when Ryuji was collecting his things after class had been dismissed, he overheard Rin and Shiemi's conversation.

"So how has Noriko-sama been doing?" She asked her boyfriend.

"Honestly… I don't really know.," Rin said while collecting his things, " All she's been doing lately is train with me and Shura, but it's like she doesn't have anymore emotions. And when I do try to talk to her she just ignores me or lies about being ok. I talked to Yukio and he said the same thing. I think she's just tired is all. But hopefully a few days off will help her get back to her old self. Yukio gave her the rest of the week off since she kept nodding off during a mission."

Ryuji glanced over at Rin and then back to his bag. 'Maybe I should go and visit her..' he thought. As he walked out of the building with Konekomaru, Shima and Izumo, he glanced at his phone and then back to the others.

'I think I will let her rest for now, she needs it.' He thought. Ryuji then put his phone away and followed the others.

Meanwhile, Noriko had been asleep for the past 24 hours, and still had no intention of waking up. For once in the past month she was able to sleep peacefully without any nightmares of war and death.

The next morning Noriko woke up to the smell of breakfast. After doing her morning routine she found Yukio and Rin sitting at the table eating breakfast with Kuro on the floor eating the same meal. Noriko yawned and saw a plate already prepared for her with some tea.

"Good morning, Noriko." Yukio greeted.

"Mornin'" Rin replied with food in his mouth.

"Mornin' guys." She said before she prayed for her meal and began to eat.

There was silence at the table, everyone enjoying the peaceful morning.

"So… how are you feeling?" Yukio asked.

Sipping her tea, Noriko replied with, "Much better. I feel like I've recharged my batteries."

"Good. I hope that this week will help you relax and get you ready for next week." Yukio said while reading through his organizer of certain duties he was to complete that day.

As the three of them and Kuro continued to eat, Noriko began to feel something odd in her back. It felt like having the shivers and then a burning sensation right after. She began to move her shoulders around to see if that would release some of the tingling, but it didn't. Looking down at her wrists she saw that her tattoo's were beginning to fade.

"What the-" She was interrupted when she began to hear whispers of unfamiliar voices, then they slowly began to get louder and louder. Noriko got up from her seat and covered her ears, hoping it would stop all of the voices. Kuro hissed and ran for the hills.

Rin was by Noriko's side while Yukio was looking down in fear because he didn't know what to do. None of them did. Yukio saw Noriko's back start to glow and her tattoo's started to swarm around her like a shield. Just like they did when she revealed her true form to them.

"Rin look out!" Yukio yelled before he grabbed Rin and ran behind the kitchen.

Noriko's whole body felt like it was on fire, she screamed and a blinding light erupted from her back and wrists. The next thing she knew, she was laying on the ground with a heavy feeling weighing her down. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw a feather on the ground, leading to more and more until she saw that her wings were released without her permission. Grunting, she slowly got up and looked around as though she was in a new world.

Rin and Yukio looked from behind the kitchen and saw that Noriko had changed her form for no reason.

"Noriko, what the hell do you think you're doing!?" Yukio yelled as he walked up to her.

"I-I don't know. I didn't want this to happen now! You think I'm doing this for fun!? They just popped out of no where!", when she said that, her wings began to ruffle up and then expanded out of nowhere. The chair next to her went flying and a lamp broke on her left side. Noriko squeaked and pulled her wings back in. She grabbed her head and whispered to herself, "What is happening?"

Rin came out from the kitchen and was in awe, "That's so cool Noriko… I wish I had wings!"

Yukio and Noriko glared at Rin, now was not the time for jokes. When Noriko glared at Rin, he noticed that they started to ruffle again, making him wonder.

"Hey… I think they are reacting to her emotions! Look, when she gets mad they get all ruffled up like they are now."

Noriko and Yukio paused and looked at her wings, Rin was right, they were ruffled up. Noriko calmed herself down and noticed that once she did that, they went back to normal.

"Dammit…" she whispered.

"Can you try the incantation and see if they will go back to normal?" Yukio asked.

"I don't know… My tattoo's never vanished like that before. Usually they spin around then come off and… Hold on."

She began her usual process of unlocking the seal, but nothing happend. She tried again, nothing.

"Oh no… Something is definitely wrong."

'No shit' she heard Rin whisper.

"Rin, shove it!" Noriko glared.

"What? I didn't say anything… wait… did you… read my mind!?" Rin exclaimed.

'Can you hear me now!? Wow this is so cool! It's gonna be like talking to Kuro, well except that he talks back and-' Rin exclaimed in his head, making Noriko cringe and cover her ears.

"Yes! Now stop it! Don't think about anything ok? I need to concentrate and figure out what's wrong." she interrupted. Noriko began to pace the living room trying to come up with theories about why this is happening.

"Look, I have to get to work and I don't know how to help, but I will ask someone and see what they say. Sorry, Noriko." Yukio said as he collected his things and left.

Noriko clicked her tongue and paced faster in the living room.

Rin watched Noriko pace the room and bite her nails. He honestly didn't know how to help her in this situation, but then he got an idea.

"Hey Noriko, why don't you go ask Mephisto and see what he thinks is wrong. He might know something about seals and even about angels."

Noriko stopped and thought about it, her wings twitched when she heard the clowns name. Right now anything was possible, so she nodded and ran her fingers through her hair.

"You might be right… I'll go see what he thinks… Thanks, Rin." Noriko smiled at him and gave him a pat on the shoulder. When she came in contact with him, her skin felt like it was on fire, and vice versa.

"Ow! What the fuck!?" Rin exclaimed as he grabbed his shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Rin! I didn't know that would happen!" she apologized, her wings getting fluffed up and irritated again.

"It's fine, now go see Mephisto." Rin said as he backed away and left for school.

Noriko sighed and got dressed. It was difficult since she wasn't able to fit in her shirts because of her wings. She grabbed one of her old shirts and cut to big holes in the back where her shoulder blades would be, hoping that her wings would fit through; to her luck they did. She grabbed her biggest jacket she had and went out of the door. Then it hit her, how would she be able to hide them with only her jacket and go through a school where kids didn't know about the supernatural. Noriko growled in irritation and threw her jacket on the ground, again her wings got riled up again. But once she was outside she was able to let them flap a little in anger, then it hit her, she can just fly there; but carefully to where no one would see her. She started to concentrate on the idea of flight and started to flap her wings until she started to feel like she was levitating. Looking down she saw that she was a few feet up and she started to lean her body towards the left and right to see how it felt; even though she hit the building a few times. It felt similar to ice skating, when you haven't done it in a while it takes a while for your body to remember certain movements and techniques before your skating like a pro again.

Once she was able to gain enough altitude, she glided her way through the sky and towards Mephistos office. It felt like heaven to her, being free and feeling as though you can conquer anything you wanted. Keeping an eye on pedestrians so they didn't see her, she started to really enjoy herself and began to get lost in her own world.

"My dear, are you having fun!?" Mephisto yelled from his hair that randomly floated in the air.

Scaring Noriko out of focus she screamed started to fall, unable to gain the right momentum to turn and put wind under her wings, she started to fall.

Meanwhile while Ryuji and the others were walking to their exorcist classes, Konekomaru heard a scream from above and saw Noriko fall while Master Philis watched and did nothing.

"Guys watch out!" Konekomaru screamed.

Everyone, including Ryuji, looked up and saw a falling angel coming their way. When Noriko was able to turn, she saw that she was headed straight for Ryuji and the others. Ryuji didn't have enough time to brace for impact as Noriko fell onto him, making them tumble with momentum until they stopped. Luckily Noriko was able to wrap her wings around both of them to reduce the impact. When everything stopped, Noriko was inches from Ryuji's face. Both of them in such a haze of what had just happened, they didn't realize how close they were and how intimate they looked. Noriko's body lay fully on Ryuji with their legs tangled in each other, his arms around her waist and head, his face hiding in her neck. All while she had her arms wrapped around his torso, hiding her face in the crook of his neck as well. Ryuji's books and papers flew out of his bag and were now scattered all around them, everyone looking at the odd couple.

Ryuji looked up to a beautifully bewildered Noriko as she looked down at him and smiled.

"Hey… thought I would drop by…" she said as she started to unwrap her wings around them, but never moving away from Ryuji.

Ryuji smiled with a blush on his cheeks. He put a hand on her cheek and whispered, "Noriko…?"

Noriko placed her forehead on his and smiled. There was a cough heard behind them, making them blush and quickly get out of each other's arms. Noriko held a hand out for Ryuji to use but he got up by himself and dusted the dirt off of his uniform.

"Jesus, Noriko!" Rin exclaimed.

"Are you guy's alright?" Shiemi asked.

"Noriko, what the hell is going on!?" Said a bewildered Shima.

"Yes, that is something I too would like to know, Ms. Hitomi." Mephisto said as he walked toward the group.

Noriko dusted herself off and looked at Mephisto then at the others, all of them had quizzical looks on their faces.

"I was hoping you could help me figure that out." Noriko replied to Mephisto.

He looked her up and down then gestured for her to follow him to his office. Noriko looked back at the others then at Mephisto.

"I'm sorry guys, I will explain everything… once I understand what's happening… I'm sorry." she said to them in a sad tone.

Ryuji desperately wanted her to stay and at least tell them what was going on, but it was too late, Mephisto had used his powers to transfer Noriko and him to his office, leaving the group confused as ever. Ryuji shook his head and collected his belongings without saying anything, then continued to walk to class. Shiemi looked at Rin then at Ryuji, she felt something was wrong between Ryuji and Noriko. As every one gossiped about what had just happened Ryuji ignored them and continued his work; even though he couldn't get his mind off of Noriko.

Back at the office, Mephisto studied Noriko and stalked around her like a vulture. She had told him what had happened early this morning and what new powers she had never known before.

"Hmm… it seems the seal that your father had put on you all those years ago has finally faded off. You're going to have to have a higher angel come down and re-seal you up unless you want to walk around with those all day and hearing everyone's thoughts, memories, secrets… so on and so forth."

Noriko groaned and said, "How am I supposed to get a higher angel to come down and have them re-seal me!?"

"You said you heard voices before everything was happening, maybe that was them trying to contact you. We demons have similar traits with the angels, but they are more high and mighty while we are… well you get the point."

Noriko paced his office and then got an idea.

"Ariel! I summoned him from heaven… maybe he will have an idea about what's going on." She said as she started to summon him, but Mephisto stopped her.

"Don't summon that creature in my office, do it somewhere else."

Noriko rolled her eyes and walked to the window, opening it up she jumped out and her wings were able to catch the air as she fell. Gliding through the air, she headed back to the building where her and the Okumura twins lived and landed on the roof. She began to summon Ariel, but nothing seemed to happen. Did he not hear her? She tried again and nothing. Noriko stood there for a while, totally lost on what was occurring today. Nothing was going her way and she had no clue what to do. She gazed over to the sky and collapsed to her knees. What is she going to do now?
