UNSTUCK IN TIME PART 2
Part 1 of this storyline began in It's Better With Two Chapter 33. I'll update you on what happened there if you don't read that title though so don't worry about it.
As soon as Rose appeared out of nowhere inside of my TARDIS, I somehow knew why she was there before she even opened her mouth. I had been expecting Clara to suddenly disappear for a while now ever since I first realized that she looked so much like my nanny as a child. I knew that it had to be more than a coincidence. In my experience, there's simply no such thing.
Or at least there never has been in my life anyway.
"Clara's gone, isn't she?" I said before she could speak.
"Yes. She just disappeared from the Console Room right in front of us. It was as if someone had used a Time Scoop on her. She just vanished and now she could be anywhere at any time. The Doctor gave her his sonic before she vanished, and she's sending us a weak signal with it. It's too weak for us to find her though, and I can't find her at all with my powers. That's never happened before, Mum. The Doctor's been using a Randomizer on the TARDIS to move us back and forth at random between different times and places to see if he can get a stronger signal somewhere, but so far he's had no luck finding one. The only thing that I can think of now is that she must be with you in the past somehow after that story that you told us about her looking like your nanny. Do you know anything that could help me find her? Please tell me something. Anything," Rose pleaded.
"Little Jackie's going nuts I bet. She's become very attached to Clara. She does that. Children just love her. I know I did when I was a child. I'm almost positive that it was her now. Let me tell you what I know about what happened when my mysterious nanny showed up and maybe that will help you," I said.
Rose nodded and eagerly waited as I began to tell my story.
"First of all, it was me that brought her to my time in the first place. I was working with creating a very primitive version of a Time Scoop when I was five years old. It worked even better than I hoped that it would because it suddenly brought me a woman who looked just like Clara. She called herself by a different name though, Jenna Harkness," I explained.
"What? You built a Time Scoop when you were only five?!" Rose asked in disbelief.
"I was very smart even for a Time Lord. My mother never knew what to do with me because I was always messing around with some new invention that got us into all kinds of trouble. I didn't mean to cause trouble. It just sort of happened. I was just trying to see if my ideas worked," I said with a grin.
"I can really see you as a major troublemaker as a kid. That's not hard to believe at all," Rose said grinning.
"Yeah, like you weren't? You may have been a sweetie as Arkytior, but your other mother has told me a lot of stories about your days growing up with her. You are so my daughter," I said as I laughed.
"Alright, I'm your daughter. I got into a lot of trouble too. I admit it. At least I never kidnapped people though," Rose said.
"It wasn't a kidnapping! It was an accident. What do you expect? I was only five," I protested.
"I expect a five year old not to be mucking about with Time Scoops. That's what I expect," Rose said.
"I'm sorry. I know you're worried," I said.
"It's okay. I'm not angry with you. I know that this isn't your fault. Just tell me what happened next. I'm sure that this Jenna must have been Clara. That's the name of her favorite actress, and the last name obviously came from my old fake name, Cassandra Harkness. Tell me what you remember about her after she showed up," Rose said.
"Well, she was obviously upset but trying hard not to show it which made me feel terrible for bringing her there since I had no idea how to send her back. I continued with my experiments though as I tried to find a way. Meanwhile Jenna/Clara stayed with us in our home in our guest room and immediately adapted to our language much faster than I ever thought that she would. I realize now that it was because she learned it from Cydonia. She quickly became just like a member of the family and went to work helping take care of me and my brother and sister, and we all loved her. I could tell that she was never quite happy there though. I knew that she wanted to go back home so badly and I was trying so hard to help her with that. Then several months after she first arrived there, everything changed," I said as I started my story.
"Months?" Rose said looking so guilty.
"Yes, she was there for six months before things changed. I'm sorry, Rose. My family and I did our best to keep her happy though. At least as happy as we could anyway," I said as I put a sympathetic hand on her shoulder.
"At least she was with you. It could have been much worse," Rose said.
"It was. Six months later," I said.
Rose's eyes went wide with alarm as she said, "Tell me what happened next."
Gallifrey, A Billion Years Ago (Give or take a few decades)
Clara had been with us for so long now that we felt completely comfortable around her. I knew that she never felt comfortable with us though. She hid it well but I always knew that she wanted to go home especially when she would look up at the stars at night.
One day when I saw her doing this, I just had to say something.
"I'm sorry, Jenna. I'm so sorry. I wish that I had listened to my Mum and never used that machine again. I'm so glad to have met you though. You're so nice and I always love it when you babysit us. I love you," the younger me said.
Clara smiled at me as she said, "I love you too, sweetie. I don't want you to feel bad about this at all. It's not your fault. I think that this was supposed to happen."
"Don't try to make her feel better. She screwed up. Just tell her the truth," my older brother, Frey, said.
"Don't be so hard on her. She already feels bad enough about it," my older sister and Frey's twin, Freya, said. I named Allison after her by the way.
"She should feel bad. She ruined Jenna's life. Maybe this will teach her to stop messing around with her stupid experiments before she gets someone killed namely us," Frey said.
"Stop it!" Freya said.
I could tell that Frey was sorry as soon as he said it, and he proved that as he said, "I'm sorry, Sekh. I know you didn't mean to do it."
"You should be sorry. By the way, Frey, she didn't ruin my life. I'd rather be home but being with your family isn't that bad either. I could have wound up in a much worse mess believe me. I'm so glad that you all took me in like you did, and I am happy here regardless of how it looks sometimes. I love each and every one of you, and I don't blame Sekh at all for anything. I really do think that I was meant to be here. Think about it. Has Sekh been able to bring anyone else back here in all of this time with her machine even though she's been working with it nonstop? No. Yet she somehow grabbed me. I don't think that happened just by chance," Clara said.
"Whether it did or not, it just proves that Sekh should stop this stuff until she's older and wiser. She's going to get us all in serious trouble sooner or later if she doesn't," Frey said.
His words would prove to be very prophetic soon.
"I hate to say it but I agree, Sekh. You need to stop messing around with all of those things until you've studied them more. If you don't, then you're just being deliberately reckless," Freya said.
"She's five, Freya. Five year olds are reckless," Clara said.
"Yes, but other five year olds can't build machines that pluck people out of time and space, can they? I don't want to make her feel bad. I just want her to realize that she needs to stop now," Freya said.
"I can't stop. Not until I send Jenna home," I said.
"It's okay. You can stop now. If I'm meant to go home, I will somehow," Clara said with a look of absolute faith on her face.
Faith in what I didn't know at the time. Now though I think I do. It was faith in you and the Doctor, Rose.
"She's certainly not going to do it your way, Sekh. You can't recreate whatever you did before or you would have by now. Just give up on it," Frey said.
I hesitated as I said, "I – I guess you're right."
"Right about what?" my father, Perseus, said as he came into the room.
"Frey's right about telling me to quit my experiments and not to use my machines anymore. I guess it's just as well. I'm never going to get Jenna home if I haven't done it by now," I said in resignation.
"I'm sorry, Sekh. I know you wanted to so badly. It's best just to stop now though. I've been afraid of your experiments drawing unneeded attention for a long time now. If the High Council or the President ever find out about them, there's no telling what they'll do to you or us. They could force you to work for them or even worse they could just kidnap you and hold you prisoner forever so that no one else could ever find out the secrets to your inventions and possibly use them against them. I don't want that to happen so it's best that you stop this now," My father said.
"It may already be too late," Cassiopeia, my mother, said as she entered the room next.
"What do you mean? What's happened?" My father said in alarm.
"There's a large group of Capitol guards coming this way with their guns drawn. I think that they've found out about your experiments, Sekhmet," My mother said.
"How? How could they possibly know? I've never told anyone," I said in dismay.
"I guess we'll soon find out," My father said.
The guards soon came in without even knocking, and we found ourselves face to face with them.
The Captain of the Capitol Guards said, "We have been detecting unusual temporal energies coming from this area for a year now. Today we finally managed to track them down to this specific spot. Lord President Rassilon wishes to speak to the one responsible for creating these energies immediately in order to find out the nature of them and if they represent a threat to our society or not. Whoever is responsible for their creation will surrender themselves now or we will take all of you to Rassilon immediately. You have five seconds to respond."
All of us were silent but I knew that I couldn't let my family get involved in this. This was all my fault so it was my job to set it all right and save everyone else.
"It was me," I said.
"Sekhmet, no!" My mother said in horror.
The guards laughed as the Captain said with amusement, "That's very noble, little girl, but we don't believe for a second that you could create such energies."
"I did though. I created them with . . ." I said as I started to explain the nature of my experiments.
That was when Clara spoke up and said, "It was me. I came here by accident, and I've been trying to find a way to get back home ever since. I created some machines to help me with that. None of these people knew about it so don't bother them. I'll go along peacefully. I swear to you though that I was just trying to go home. I mean no threat to you or your President."
"No!" I said as Clara silently told me to shut up.
The Captain scanned Clara and said, "You're an alien! How did you get here?"
"I don't know. I became unstuck in time somehow and wound up in the area not far from these kind people's home. They took me in and helped me, and I've been working as a nanny with them ever since. I didn't tell them where I was from or how I was trying to get back though. They didn't know," Clara said.
"No, that's not true. She had nothing to do with it. It was me," I protested.
"Shut up," Frey whispered to me as Freya tried to put her hand over my mouth. I bit it though in indignation and anger, and she was forced to pull it back.
"Obviously this child must have found out whether you told her or not, and that's why she's trying to protect you. She'll have to come along for questioning as well," the Captain said.
"No," My mother said as Clara said, "She doesn't know anything. She's just an innocent child."
"We don't intend on harming her. We just want to know what she knows, and then we'll let her go," the Captain said.
"Wait. These two are trying to cover for me. I'm the one who's been doing the experiments. Take me in and leave them alone," My father said.
The Captain could tell that he was lying so he said, "Your daughter will not be harmed. I'll just need her as a witness against the alien. I can't guarantee the alien's safety I'm afraid. Aliens are prohibited after all regardless of how they got here."
"It's not my fault. It was an accident," Clara said.
"That may be but it's still forbidden," the obstinate guard said.
Then over the protests of my family the guards took me and Clara away with them. Clara kept looking at me to make sure that I was safe even as I now realize that she was worrying about me. She knew after all that they would probably find out that I was the one behind the experiments and never let me go.
We were soon brought before Rassilon, that man is even older than me amazingly enough, and he had several questions for Clara. Clara continued with her story of being an alien using time experiments to attempt to go home, but I could tell that Rassilon didn't really believe her completely.
"Her story could be true but something sounds off about it. Prepare the mind probe. We must examine her mind and find out the truth for ourselves," Rassilon ordered.
"No, wait. She hasn't done anything. It was me," I protested again.
"Silence, child! There's no way that you could have produced the energies that we have been detecting. We'll question you without the probe soon enough. You will not speak any further until then," Rassilon admonished me.
He was a real charmer even then. That man was ruining peoples' lives even when I was a child and long before. He ruled Gallifrey with an iron fist for ages until I finally overthrew him. It was partially he who had created the corrupt atmosphere that had caused my father to flee the Capitol to what he thought was the safety of the Wild Lands in the first place. We had all found out that day though that no place was safe from a tyrant like Rassilon no matter how remote.
"Just stop talking, Sekh. I'll be alright," Clara said in a soothing voice.
Rassilon smiled at her as he said, "Maybe I won't have you executed after all. I may reduce your sentence to life imprisonment instead for showing sympathy to the child.
Clara said nothing but her expression spoke volumes. She was definitely not happy about his response.
Rassilon seemed to miss this though as he continued to smile while the mind probe was brought out. He quickly had the guards hook Clara up to it.
"Don't! Please!" I said in an upset voice.
"If you speak again, child, I will have your mouth taped shut. Do you understand?" Rassilon said as he erupted in anger.
"It's alright," Clara said.
"You are very brave, alien. I will definitely commute your sentence in respect of that. Now the mind probe will tell us what you've really been up to. Prepare yourself. There will be great pain from the probe. If you resist, there will be even more so be honest with us," Rassilon said.
"Oh, I definitely will be," Clara said smiling.
I knew that she had some kind of plan, but I had no idea what. No one could outwit a mind probe after all.
Rassilon himself asked the questions as he asked, "Who are you? Where are you from?"
"Well, that depends on which me you're talking about I suppose. My name is Parthenos and I'm from Gallifrey. No, it's Cydonia also from Gallifrey. Wait, it's also Oswin from an Earth colony world that you've never even heard of from the future. I'm also Miss Montague from Earth in the nineteenth century. I may also be Jenna from the far future or I could be Claranamun from Ancient Egypt also from Earth. Many people just call me Clara though. Even I'm not sure who I am anymore sometimes," Clara said with a grin.
"What?!" Rassilon said in shock as the mind probe showed that what she was saying was all true.
"Who are you? What is your real name?" Rassilon demanded.
"They all are. I am all of those people and many more," Clara insisted.
"Where are you from?" Rassilon asked as he became more and more angry.
"Earth, Gallifrey, Skaro, Zygor, Voga, Thoros Beta, Vortis, Peladon, Venus, Mars, Traken, Trion, Metebelis Three, Iceworld, Mondas . . ." Clara said as she rattled off a list of planets that her echoes had lived and died on.
"How are you doing this? The mind probe shows that you are telling the truth, but you're obviously lying. Increase the strength of the probe. Full power!" Rassilon shouted.
Clara continued to speak the names of planets even as the pain of the probe showed on her face.
I started to scream in terror even as she defiantly continued to speak as she said, ". . . Telos, Minyos, Spiridon, Ravolox, Deva Loka, Androzani Minor . . ."
"Leave her alone!" I screamed as I could see Clara turning pale and sweating from the exertion.
"You will tell me the truth! Who are you?!" Rassilon demanded.
Clara finally screamed in pain and couldn't speak anymore as the probe became too intense even for her to handle any more. Then a massive burst of energy burst out from her head and knocked everyone in the room out but me.
I rushed to the mind probe and quickly unhooked her from it. Then as I helped her to walk, she quickly staggered out of there. We snuck out of Rassilon's headquarters and immediately made our way back to my house.
As soon as we returned, my mother said, "What happened?"
As she helped me to carry Clara inside, I told her everything, and she looked at me in disbelief.
"No one has ever been able to resist the mind probe like that before," My mother said.
"They could if they were telling the truth," My father said.
"How could she be though?" My mother asked.
"Jenna's definitely not a normal person. I've noticed that for some time now. She actually understands the basics of Sekh's time experiments even when they're unintelligible to you and me. She's obviously not a Gallifreyan, and yet she knows things that only a native of this world would know. Jenna is someone special and from beyond this world. I think that Rassilon bit off more than he could chew this time. We'll have to leave quickly before he comes back. We'll flee to a new home deeper in the Wild Lands where even Rassilon won't find us this time. It took him six months to find this spot. It'll take him so long to find the next one that hopefully he'll give up entirely," My father said.
"I promise I won't use my equipment anymore or build anything else. I'm so sorry for all of this," I said.
"It's okay, Sekhmet. I blame Rassilon and his oppressive regime not you. You didn't mean any harm," My father said as he hugged me.
"Still, you're never going to do any of your experiments ever again, are you?" My mother asked.
"No, Mum. I've learned that lesson the hard way. Do you think she'll be alright?" I asked.
"I hope so. Her body seems to be okay. It's her mind that worries me," My mother said as she checked Clara's pulse and heart rate.
We quickly packed up even as Clara lay in her room in a catatonic state. Halfway through our packing a neighbor appeared and suddenly told my father how Rassilon and the others in the interrogation room had woken up unconscious and with no memory of what had knocked them out. It was quite a mystery in the Capitol as they weren't the only ones affected. It seemed that everyone in Rassilon's headquarters including all of the Capitol guards and their Captain had also been knocked unconscious at the same time as well. None of them had any memories at all of the last two days.
My father couldn't believe it, and he wondered if Clara had done it somehow. I think I know who was behind it now, but at that time I didn't know and neither did the rest of my family.
We decided to stay and hope that no one would regain their memory of what had happened. Luckily for us they never did. That was the last I ever saw of Clara until much more recently of course. The next day my mother simply told me that Clara had left and that she was alright, but she never told me where she went. That's all that I knew about her until now.
Present Day, Lily's TARDIS
"That energy that poured out of her mind was a barrier that the Doctor and I placed in there to protect her mind from breaking down because of all of the memories of her other selves. It was supposed to have shut her brain down and keep it from overloading if the memories ever got to be too much for her. It was also supposed to protect her from anyone or anything who tried to tamper with her mind and bring those memories up to use against her. It was something like the Doctor used to protect Donna with once. That must be why I couldn't find her with the Vortex. I put a small bit of my power into that barrier so it must have been my own power acting against me and confusing my senses as it tried to protect her. Most of it wasn't Vortex power though. I could possibly track her with that. Maybe I could use the expelled energy of the barrier to track her with!" Rose said with renewed hope.
"I certainly hope so. I've worried about her for a long, long time now, and I would like to know if she made it out alright or not. I don't think that my mother would have lied, but I always wondered if she did to protect me," I admitted.
"How long was that before . . .?" Rose asked before trailing off not wanting to speak the rest of that sentence.
"It was a few months before the ambush that killed them all but me. Or at least my parents and brother anyway. I never did know what happened to Freya. I never saw her again though so she must have died too, and I know that she's long gone by now. At least we had a few more months together anyway, and I never did my experiments again until I was older to avoid attracting unnecessary attention. Clara saved my life, Rose. If she hadn't been there, then Rassilon would have found out about my super intelligence and probably had me killed or imprisoned for the rest of my life. I owe her everything, Rose. Please find her," I said.
"I'll do my best, Mum. Why don't you come with me?" Rose said.
"I will. I need to see her again to make sure that she's alright," I said.
Rose contacted the Doctor and told him what I had told her, and then the two of them began to search for the energy given off by Clara. The Doctor used the TARDIS and Rose used the Vortex as they both searched for the exact date that Clara left us which I unfortunately could no longer remember. It had been so long ago after all.
The Doctor finally found what he thought were traces of Clara's released energy, and then he used that to help him finally locate the signal from his sonic. He quickly traced that to the exact date that Clara's sonic last gave off a signal, and then my and the Doctor's TARDISes materialized not far from where I used to live. I wasn't going to go outside at first, but then I decided that I had to. I wanted to see this for myself.
The three of us slowly approached my old home, and I began to feel very uncomfortable. Then I caught my breath as I saw my mother for the first time in a billion years. I tried very hard not to cry as she came toward us.
"Hello. Do you want something?" My mother asked.
"My name is Smith. John Smith. I'm come here to find a friend of mine. Her name is . . . What did you say that she was calling herself in this time?" the Doctor asked Rose.
"Jenna. Jenna Harkness. She's my sister," Rose said.
The Doctor looked at her oddly for a moment but quickly realized that she was just trying to make sure that she didn't tamper with the timeline.
"That's right. She's my wife's sister, and this is my mother-in-law. Don't worry about her though. She's not important," the Doctor said.
If I hadn't been so shocked to see my mother again, I would have slapped him into unconscious at record speed for that remark. Luckily for Dum Dum though, I was otherwise occupied at the moment.
My mother was also staring at me just as I was at her, and I knew that she thought that I looked familiar. I was beginning to wonder if I should have come or not.
"Come on inside. She's had a traumatic experience lately so she's not feeling well right now. I hope she'll be alright," My mother admitted.
"I think we'll be able to help her if we can just see her for a few minutes, and then we can take her home," the Doctor said.
"Good. I know she's wanted to go for so long now. She misses it so much. I can tell that no matter how hard she tries to protest otherwise," My mother said.
She soon led us inside, and we went into what I now remembered was Clara's old room. We found her there completely catatonic and unresponsive.
"Could we have a few moments alone with her?" Rose asked.
"Of course. I'll be right outside if you need me," My mother said.
Then after she went outside, Rose began to glow with the Vortex and touched Clara's forehead. Clara gasped and quickly regained her senses as she looked at all of us in confusion for a moment.
Then she began to cry as she hugged each and every one of us tightly.
"Can I finally go home now?" Clara said in an upset voice.
"You certainly can. I'm so sorry for all of this," the Doctor said as he hugged her to him tightly and kissed the top of her head.
"I'm the one who should be apologizing," I said.
"No, Lily. It's okay. I can see now. I had to be here to save you. I'm glad to have done that, and I'm especially glad to have met the young you. You were so sweet and innocent in this time," Clara said smiling.
"I wonder what happened," the Doctor joked.
I slapped him across the face so hard that I actually knocked him senseless for a minute, and Rose had to catch him as he temporarily passed out.
What? I owed him an extra hard one for the crack from before anyway.
"Mum!" Rose cried out as she shook her head at me.
I grinned evilly as I said, "He was asking for it."
As Clara giggled and looked so happy and relieved to finally be home, my breath caught in my throat once again as my father walked into the room. I couldn't believe that I was getting to see both of them in the same day.
The Doctor had luckily regained his senses at that point and he spoke for us as he said, "Clara's feeling much better now even though I'm not. We're going to take her home now. At least we will as soon as I can walk in a straight line again."
"What happened to you?" My father asked as he looked at him in confusion.
"I ran into a wall. I'm funny like that. The steering in this body always was just a little bit off," the Doctor said.
"It's not the only thing about you that's off," I joked.
The Doctor glared at me even as my father smiled at me. I could see that he was looking at me too as if he almost knew me and was trying to figure out who I was.
I knew that I had to leave now before either he or my mother did realize it.
"I guess we'll be going now. Thank you for taking care of her. She means a lot to us," I said.
That was when my mother entered the room again and said, "I know. She always did mean a lot to you, didn't she, Sekhmet?"
I froze as I said, "My name's Lily."
"I know who you are. Your father and I recognized you as soon as you entered the house. You're so much older now, but we know you. We'll always know you. So it seems that those time experiments of yours worked out after all, huh?" My mother said with a smile.
"I knew it. I always knew that you were destined to do something special. I'm so proud of you," My father said as he hugged me.
I began to cry as my mother joined him. I knew that I shouldn't, but I started to tell them the future.
"Mum, Dad, I have to tell you something. In a few months . . ." I began.
"No, you can't!" The Doctor shouted.
"I'm going to tell them!" I screamed back caught up in the emotion of the moment.
"No, Sekhmet, you can't. I don't know as much about time travel as you do, but I do know that you can't change the past. That's got to be a bad thing to try to do even if you do it for the right reasons," My father said.
"I have to," I said in tears.
"No, sweetie. Don't say anymore. We're just glad to see that you're happy and well in the future and that you've made something special out of yourself. That's all of the future that we need to know," My mother said.
"No, it's not. I'm your granddaughter," Rose said.
"I can't believe you," the Doctor said shaking his head in frustration.
"Shut up, Doctor. This isn't going to hurt anything," Rose said defiantly.
That's my girl.
My parents hugged Rose now as my father said, "I should have known. You're so much like Sekhmet. It's so nice to meet you."
"It's very nice to meet you. I'm so glad that you told us," My mother said.
"I hate to do this, but we really should go now," the Doctor said in a gentler voice. I could tell that he didn't want to take this heartwarming moment away from Rose, but he knew the dangers of staying here too long and what it could do to the timeline.
"It's okay. You need to take Jenna home with you now and make sure that's she's okay. Goodbye," My mother said.
"Goodbye and take care of yourself, Sekhmet," My father said as both of my parents gave me one last hug.
Then we all left without letting the past me or my siblings see us. As we went back to our TARDISes, I gave Clara one last hug as she said, "I think we're going to be a lot closer now, Lily, at least I hope that we are."
"I still love you, Clara. You can always come and talk to me anytime. I mean that. I also mean this. If you ever get tired of The Chin over there, you can become my companion. You're welcome any time," I said.
"Thanks, Lily. I may just take you up on that sometime especially when he gives me lip. Sometimes he gets on my last nerve," Clara joked.
"Oi! First you knock me silly and now you're trying to steal my best friend away! This is a new low even for you!" the Doctor said in protest.
"Yeah? Well, you stole my daughter away from me so I'm just trying to break even," I said.
"Mum!" Rose said as she sighed in exasperation.
"I was just joking, Chin Boy. I'd never leave you. You're not getting rid of me that easily," Clara said in an emotional voice as she hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek.
"I missed you too," The Doctor said also in an emotional voice.
The two of them embraced for a long time, and I knew that Clara was so relieved to finally be home. I smiled at them and decided to give the Doctor a break for once. I would do it for Clara's sake. I owed her that much after all for getting her into this mess in the first place.
The Doctor, Rose, and Clara soon left in their TARDIS, and I was left alone at last. I was so tempted to go back and tell my family what was about to happen, but I knew that I couldn't. I turned to leave and almost made it into my TARDIS when I felt a small pair of hands grab me from behind.
I turned around and was stunned to see my sister, Freya, there.
"What?" I asked in surprise.
"I just wanted to say goodbye, Sekhmet," Freya said.
"How did you know who I was?" I said.
"I was eavesdropping at the door. I'm going to miss you. I'm glad that you proved Frey wrong about your experiments. I always knew that you would be something special someday. I can't wait to get to see it happen," Freya said in excitement.
My face fell as I knew that she never would. I couldn't tell her that though. Could I?
"What's wrong?" Freya asked.
I wanted to scream about the future to her so badly, but I knew that I couldn't. Instead I hugged her tightly, kissed her forehead, and said, "Goodbye, Freya. I love you."
"I love you too. Goodbye, Sekhmet. I bet we talk about this together when you get back to the future and just laugh, huh?" Freya said.
"Yeah. We sure will," I lied as I tried to keep the truth from my expression by smiling at her.
"Goodbye, Freya. Don't tell past me about this, okay?" I said.
"I won't. Goodbye, Sekh. See you later," Freya said as she turned around and went back home.
I went back to my TARDIS and dematerialized. Then I sat there in silence lost in my thoughts and memories all the way back home. It wasn't until I got home and told the whole story to Robin that I finally broke down. It made me appreciate all that I had now to be reminded of just how much that I had lost. It made me more determined than ever not to ever let anyone take my family away from me ever again.
I'd rather die first.
