Chapter 79 From Konoha to the Sea Part 1
"How could this have happened!" yelled Hanabi Hyuuga at the top of her lungs. The 6th Hokage of the hidden Leaf village was understandably upset by the news which was coming in from the North. News which would have seemed laughable if it hadn't been confirmed by so many sources.
"We…we do not know for sure..." said an aid who stood before the all the living Kages of the great ninja powers in the world. The young Jonnin who looked more like he still belonged among the ranks of the genin was clearly nerves. "However all the reports tell us more or less the same thing that a large force under the Command of Sasuke Uchiha attacked the Leaf and took it over within a few hours."
"Didn't you have any of your ninjas up there?" inquired the Raikage to the Hokage "I mean how many of your Leaf ninjas were sent back in patrol by the demons after your failed invasion."
"They mostly sent genin and a few chunin." Countered Hanabi "And how would your home forces do against someone like Sasuke Uchiha?"
That shut the loudmouth Raikage and everyone else who sat around the large oaken table.
"The real issue is what do we do about it, from all reports it sounds like Sasuke and his army is marching down heading toward us." explained Onoki "We sit in a horrible tactical position, one that isn't easily solved."
"What do you mean?" inquired the Raikage "We just march North and crush Sasuke and his band."
"And if we do that Naruto and his forces will cross the river and do one of three things. One option is that they will drive up one road and take Sunagakure and possibly make a move to take Iwagakure. That would knock two more of the great ninja villages out of the fight meaning that only Kumogakure would the only one of the great ninja villages, which hadn't fallen to them at some point. Second option while not as flashy as the first would be to march here to Celin and burn this city. While it may not sound as bad we would lose our only real launching point to attack them and from here they could strike out from wherever they please. Lastly they could march around Celin and move up and take us in the rear while we tried to attack Sasuke's force coming in from the North. Our army would be trapped between the two and likely destroyed."
"Ok, so we split our forces up we send one group up to attack Sasuke on ground of our choosing and the force here will be able to stop Naruto from moving." Offered the Raikage as the Samurai General Mifune shook his head and spoke up for the first time.
"Normally you would be correct but there is a situation which will prevent that from happening." countered Mifune as he pointed toward the map. "Look at which nation stands almost right in the middle of Sasuke's likely path."
"The land of Demons so?" inquired the Raikage as he crossed his arms. "It has no real military, hell aside from the temples and the roads there is nothing there."
"The Land of Demons while neutral in this war their leader Princess Shion has publically said they side with the demons and they have not allowed any of our forces to travel through her lands." explained Mifune. "I would find it highly likely that she will open the doors for Sasuke's forces and allow them safe passage through the Land of Demons, there may actually be a supplies waiting for them there already."
"And from there they could march down one of six different roads without any real warning." added Onoki "Any force we send North large enough to stop Sasuke would be spread too thin trying to cover six roads."
"Ok, but we know where Naruto is, we can attack him." offered the Raikage before he answered his own question. "Wait he is still sitting in the Land of Savannah isn't he?"
"Yes, so we can't attack him until he crosses and he will not cross until Sasuke's army has crossed into the land of Wind and by then we will be trapped here. We will have two powerful armies sitting outside our door and no hope of escape by land." Confirmed the land of Wind general "And since most of the ninja forces are here there isn't a force large enough in any of the nations to stop Sasuke or help us from the outside."
"We do have a force large enough in the land of Iron." admitted the Samurai General "But it take weeks to get here on foot. Reports are that Sasuke is tearing apart the railroad lines and burning everything he can reach. It will be too late to do anything besides dig the graves for the fallen or get destroyed themselves by the combined forces of Naruto and Sasuke."
"Sea travel is out, those Damn green dragon warships have been spotted by fisher man just outside of visual range and I wouldn't be surprised if they have watchers on the coast." Added Onoki "If we try to leave by sea we will die at sea."
"You're telling me that this army, which has the better part of four ninja nations and all the other smaller ninja nations are trapped?" inquired the Raikage at a near shoot.
"Almost we have only one option but I do not like it, we can do a tactical retreat back to Sunagukare." offered Mifune "We would lose this city and the launching point it provides us and it would also give the demons their own launching point but the army will live on to fight another day."
"No it will not." countered Hanabi as all eyes turned toward the Hokage. "We will not have a large force by the time Naruto and Sasuke arrive here, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if our forces are cut in half."
"Why would you say that?" inquired Mifune "This is the best move."
"From a strictly military point of view your right and that is what is likely going to happen but look at it from the level of a regular ninja." offered the Hokage "You get word that your home, your village has been destroyed that an army is marching through the country side burning and taking as they please."
"So?" inquired the Raikage
"So what will the normal men and women do when they hear that? They are ninjas true but they are also humans and it is basic human nature to worry about loved ones," explained Hanabi "The Demons have placed an army between them and their loved ones back home, they will want to defend them."
"Desertions." growled Mifune "Yes that could become a major issue, even more for the nations which sit in the path of Sasuke's army. Their smaller Daimyo's may order their forces back home even if we explain the tactical reasons not to go to them."
"Some may just surrender outright." added Mifune "Or nations which are not in the path of Sasuke like the Land of Snow will pull back to defend their own boarders."
"Damn whoever thought of this," snapped the Raikage
"Shikamaru and Temari Nara are surely the designers of this trap," admitted Hanabi as she wondered how her own clan was doing back in whatever remained of the village hidden in the leaves.
The fires had finally been brought under control but the effects of the fire was horrible, at least 70% of the village was now nothing more than ash and another 20% was ruined in one way or another. Only a few buildings had been spared the wraith of the attackers, the largest building spared was the hospital but even there windows had been broken and the place looted. Other places which had been left standing were places such as the graveyards and maybe as a sick joke by someone the fire departments but with no water pressure those places where useless in their original goals.
Smoke from burning embers still filled the once blue sky and outside the village even larger wildfires still burned out of control with no sign of anyone doing anything to stop them. The stunned and confused villagers moved through the remains of their once proud village trying to figure out what to do next. Some just stood their stunned at the destruction, others tried to find their homes to see if they could recover anything, most wouldn't find anything but ash. Still others went about the task of burying the dead.
The civilian population had survived the attack with only a handful of deaths but the same could not be said about the ninja core, which down to almost the man was all but destroyed. This left Kurenai in a very strange place, she was the highest-ranking ninja in the village and had command of the ninja core which numbered at the moment four dozen almost all of whom where chunin or lower. Her connections to Hinata was well known and since her home was not burned down or looted she was mistrusted by those now under her protection.
What made it worse was that almost all the civilian, which had been killed, had been either council members or clan leaders. At first when she saw that three of the seven council members had killed she had believed it to be fate on a battlefield but then the other four all showed up dead. Aside from Hiashi which had taken some kind of blow to the face before a needle to the eye all the rest showed no clear injuries aside from a single small puncture on either the arm or leg. On itself, it did not look deadly then a memory came to her.
Flashback
"Well this has been a nice little visit," said Shino as he sat in his old sensei's living room while battle was waging outside the very front doors. "You should be perfectly fine as long as you remain in here."
"And if we don't?" inquired Mirai
"Well you will likely pay with it with your life." Explained Shino calmly as a suddenly a large spider walked across the carpeted floor like a dog before climbing up onto Shino's shoulder like a parrot. The sharp little fangs dripped with some sort of liquid.
"Spiders now Shino?" inquired Kurenai as Shino tapped the spider on the head, for a moment it looked as if the spider rubbed against Shino's cheek like a cat.
"Well my fiancée clan is famous for spiders and on some levels they are better than bugs." explained Shino as he walked out the door.
End Flashback
"Shino it was Shino, who killed the council members and Clan leaders. It was a clear move to take out the leadership." stated Kurenai to herself "Sasuke and his army was the sword cutting away anything in their path, Shino and his likely poisoned spiders were a scalpel removing people he saw as dangerous."
"What did you say mom?" inquired her daughter
"Nothing how is in our water supplies?" inquired Kurenai
"Well the doctors who did the tests say they have found no poisons so we can start drinking it again," said the young ninja. "Which is good because we don't have a lot of bottle water left and even better is that the weather people say a storm is coming, it may help put out the embers."
"Good but that means another night huddled in bunkers for most of the people." explained Kurenai "At least they left the walls intact so that the fires outside stay outside."
"I wonder why they did that?" inquired Mirai "It doesn't make any sense why leave a threat to you in your rear. With our walls we can defend ourselves without them we have nothing."
"We can't defend ourselves with walls right now and besides we will not be a threat to them for a long time." Explained Kurenai "If ever again."
The sound of barking dogs filled the air, seconds after the barking started there was a howl and instantly the dogs stopped barking. The sudden change of tone in the dogs barking caused Hana Inuzuka to look up from her book and look out the window of her small farmhouse. She looked out the window and her eyes locked on a large massive dog standing at the edge of the wood line less than fifty yards from her front door.
"Wolf, not dog." corrected Hana to herself as the wolf moved toward the house, seconds after it cleared the woods there was another wolf and then behind them was a man dressed in a black jonnin vest with the symbol of the nation her nation was at war with behind her. Hana moved toward the door not even grabbing the kunai she kept by the door.
"Hello." greeted Hana as she stepped outside as the wolves moved closer along with the ninja who had a sword out. "I am unarmed and I will not fight you."
"Good choice lady now what do you have in there?" inquired the Ninja "Because everything in there belongs to me now. Then I am going to kill everyone one of those dogs and burn what I don't take."
"Stand down!" yelled a voice as the ninja and Hana turned to see a tall man dressed in a long gray jacket with black and white fur lined around the edges. Around him walked two more wolves and below his eyes where two red birthmarks.
"Kiba, sir our orders are too." started the ninja
"Hello little brother." said Hana with a smile as the ninja looked back and forth between the two people. "You look good for your age."
"We age slower," explained Kiba with a laugh before turning to the ninja. "Keep moving I'll take care of my sister."
"Yes, sir." confirmed the ninja as he moved off.
"I assume you saw the fires?" inquired Kiba
"I saw the smoke not the fire, we are too far away for that." answered Hana with an older sister grin which caused Kiba to roll his eyes. "Let me guess the Leaf is burning?"
"They should have the fires out by now but the village is likely gone," explained Kiba as he crossed his hands over his chest. "I half expected to find you in the village."
"I left after the clan kicked me out but it is nice being out here," explained Hana "I am a country vet now so now I deal with birthing cattle instead of ninja dogs."
"I am surprised, you hate the country," countered her little brother.
"True but it is better than fighting against my family," explained Hana before turning on her brother with a question of her own. "So I heard from mom that I have three nieces down in the land of granite."
"Yes, Karui and I had three little girls all in our first try." said Kiba with a smile before shaking his head. "Karui-chan had a twin sister who died as a child and Sakura said that if you are a twin it raises the chances of having a twin."
"I have heard that too." admitted Hana as she held out her hands. "Do you have some photos I can have?"
"Yes of course." said Kiba with a cocky grin before pulling out a single photo and looking at it for a moment. "This one is special so you have to give it back but it is one mom hasn't even seen yet."
"Well I hope you have a lot of photos mom hasn't seen yet, we are at war." countered Hana as Kiba handed the photo to his sister who took a moment to study the photo then the realization hit her. It was an ultrasound.
"You're going to have another kid?" said Hana as her brother gave her a cocky grin; this earned him a punch in the arm. "Three at once wasn't enough? You dog."
"I am a wolf now not a dog." laughed Kiba "However at least it is only one this time, It's far enough along to know but we don't I know it is wrong but I hope it's a boy."
"Whatever it is it is, I know your love it no matter what," said Hana with a grin of her own, she wasn't a human doctor but she would bet from the ultrasound that Kiba wasn't going to get his wish. He would have four girls running around his home, maybe number five would be a boy. Maybe once this all settled I will come down and visit you all."
"Your welcome to move down there." offered Kiba as Hana looked around at her home considering the offer.
"No I think I will stay up here, I'll believe." confirmed Hana "I don't want to get in the way of you and your wife if you decided to make it five instead of four."
The sun was shining in a bright blue sky and the rolling fields of grain where burning as Sasuke and his army moved North West from the village hidden in the Leaves. His army had left the Leaf village in three large columns only to split it up into four columns once he was out of sight of the village. While three of the columns where heading straight west toward the land of grass where they would pay the same treatment they had done to the Leaf on that ninja village. A smaller lighter force all of whom where mounted on horseback was heading North West. The entire force was made up either knights or ANBU, there would be no Jonnins for this special operation.
"Sasuke sir, why are we going this way?" inquired an Anbu
"Special Orders from the Onikage," explained Sasuke as he turned his black stallion down the road; up the side of the road was a sign, which said Land of Sound and the distance. "We are going to rob a bank."
I know this is a shorter than normal chapter but there was some parts that needed to be set up after the fall of the Leaf and this seemed to be a good spot to stop. Now to make it up to my fans I will give you a clip of a story in the early stages of development. Now a few weeks ago I announced that I was going to do a sequel to my Black Fox story from a few years ago. Here is a clip of that story idea and this story will not come out until this one is finished I just wanted to share it you all.
Possible Clip from The Black Fox 2:
Pitch-black Chakra danced around the large dome like ceiling of the massive cave, it was quickly joined with deep purple chakra. The addition of a second chakra color caused Airi Namikaze to turn her gaze away from the dancing chakra. What she saw amazed and confused the 16 year old chunin of the hidden Leaf village. There was suddenly another one of those crazy death priests praying from that damn book with two cloaked figures on either side of him. Behind those figures where more figures, all these had Leaf headbands on them. One of them was a person she knew was Konohamaru Sarutobi but he was dressed differently then she had ever seen him. The three younger figures standing around him where three she had never seen before. There was also another exit tunnel which had appeared, it was as if she was looking into a mirror of the chamber but aside from the Death priests none of the people where the same.
Of three figures, two of them where boys and one of them was a girl all of whom where about the same age as herself. The first boy wore mostly blue with impossibly pale skin. The other was a young woman dressed in a red top with red-rimmed glasses and lastly the boy had a jet black jacket with the same shade of blonde hair she had. For a moment she thought it was her father or little brother but his hair style was very different. She studied the strange team across from her, the girl with jet black eyes must have sensed someone looking at her and turned her gaze toward Airi. The two girls just looked at each other, for a moment and she looked just as confused as Airi.
Both young women looked up and away from the looking at each other, the sound of clashing metal filled the air. Airi looked up at the dancing chakra, the black chakra and the purple chakra had formed two figures, which were now fighting against each other across the ceiling. It was as if she was watching a recorded battle only on fast forward. The speed kept getting faster; it was a strange effect because as the speed increased the figures came into better view. The black one was large and seamed to have horns while the other, the purple one was smaller. Finally the battle reached its peak as the smaller one slashed through the larger one. The black chakra was then consumed by the purple chakra, the figure just stood there.
Airi's eyes widened as the chakra figure began to take a more solid shape, first the it was the hands which was holding onto a thin sword which had snakes engraved on the metal and on the handle. The figure wore demon snake armor including chest, legs and arm armor.
"That can't be…" stuttered Airi's as blue eyes widened as she realized who it was, standing there in demon snake armor was the man her father had killed almost 15 years ago. There back from the dead was the demon Snake Summoner, Sasuke Uchiha.
Yes I plan to have a sort of cross over between my story and the official cannon. Now I hope that gets you interest and until next time please keep reading thanks. Wilkins75.
