"Do you think I could stay with you for a while?" Draco mumbled under his breath
"Now you decide to ask" Hermione laughed lightly at his nervousness and side-apparated them away to Black Manor.
As soon as the world stopped spinning, Draco focused his eyes on Hermione, placed his hands on her shoulders and looked at her square in her eyes.
"Don't you ever put yourself or our unborn child in danger like that again, do you understand?"
"Gosh, it's like you don't know nothing of magic Draco" Hermione rolled her eyes at stunned blonde, before making her way up the Manor's drive.
"Wait … what do you mean I don't know nothing of magic … and where are we?" He caught up with Hermione and looked around at the vast amount of open space.
"I am pregnant, the obvious is that I not allowed to apparate. However that is different if I am side apparating. My magic takes care of my own. It will forever protect our child. However it has to kind of hone in on your magical core to get us to destination" Hermione peeked up at Draco through her eyelashes as they walk up the stairs to what was now going to be home.
"So your telling me, when we side apparate together your stealing my magic so yours can protect the baby? I don't know whether to be astounded or impressed in all honesty"
The doors swung up as the house elf greeted them Hello.
"Who's house is this? If you don't mind me asking"
"I own it Godson" Hermione flinched at the tone as Severus and Andromeda was stood at the top of the large marble staircase.
"Uncle Severus, Aunt Andromeda" Draco gave a curt nod as he pushed Hermione slightly into the firing line. Hermione turned and childishly gave Draco the 'evils'. Severus placed his hand on Andy's lower back as they came to the foyer to speak without shouting throughout their home.
"I am to expect a good reason as to why you have come home with Draco in tow like a lost puppy with his tail tucked between his legs" Severus drawled as he rose a single eyebrow up.
"I got disowned" Draco's mouth spoke before he's brain had fully participated in the mouth action.
Andromeda Snape nee Black, gasped and engulfed Draco in her arms without a second thought. Draco –for the first time in the last couple of days- sighed some of the stress away and allowed his brain to slow down enough to think. Andromeda –who had been disowned at the same age- knew exactly how saddened and lost the young Malfoy must be feeling.
Draco looked up at his godfather –a person who Draco would always admit to idealizing- to see him frowning at the interaction.
"You can stay Draco, Pip –our house elf- will set you up a room in the east side of the Manor"
"But Sev..." Andy had let Draco go, but still kept her hands on his shoulders. Severus shook his head and allowed Pip to take Draco's luggage that was abandoned on the floor.
"No Andy, they can share the same house and the same floor. However they are both unwed. There for under our house roof they will sleep in different wings of the Manor, lets adjourn to the living room" Andy smiled a sad smile at Hermione and allowed Draco some more breathing space.
"We cannot ask anymore than that. Thank you" Draco thanked the Two older adults as they led the way. The floating tea tray made its way around the room. The small brass oval tray was filled with coffee, tea, sugar, cream, milk and array of sandwiches.
"Healer Matthews" Pip the house elf greeted as everyone had taken off the tea tray.
Healer Matthews side stepped the elf, she was all scrubbed up in her greens, ready to go to theatre.
"I'm sorry for the intrusion, Miss Granger would you mind if I move your appointment to now. I have to be in surgery this afternoon. A labor has not progressed as quickly as it should. I would usually allow my secretary to rearrange my appointments. However I have a feeling I shouldn't reschedule yours.
"Of course" Hermione blinked and handed Draco her tea cup.
"We will just be standing outside" Severus muttered as he motioned for Draco to follow.
Hermione laid down on the sofa as Healer Matthews whipped out her wand, with intricate movements over her stomach different colored fog like sparks were emitting from her stomach.
"What do these all mean?" Hermione frowned at her Healer as she jotted some notes down.
"This is what we call a 'maternity check up', all these different colors tell me something different. This blue one tells me how long you are in your pregnancy by shooting straight up, The pink one along your abdominal tells me how long your cervix is, the green oval one tells us how large your baby is. All of them combine can tell me a variety of things about your child."
Hermione watched in awe as the colors sped around her abdominal. An angry red jet of fog zig zagged in erratically around Hermione's stomach.
"Oh dear" Hermione frowned at looked to Andy for reassurance.
"What do you mean oh dear? You are not supposed to say oh dear to a young pregnant witch." Andy seethed as she held onto Hermione's hand. Unfazed, Healer Matthews stood up and brushed her scrubs down.
"I think it's best if you call the gentleman back in" The boys who had been listening the whole time, entered the room and sat down in their original spots. Draco took Hermione's hand in his and rubbed his thumb over hers reassuringly.
"Have you ever been hit with Cruciatus Curse for a long period of time Miss Granger?"
Draco gulped as his palms became sweaty and memories came flooding back of his crazy Aunt torturing Hermione on the floor of his dining room.
"Yes"
"The red erratic jet tells me this. It still lingers in your system. This is normal. It can stay in you for years without you truly knowing it. However you are pregnant. The remains of the curse sees the featus as something to attack. Your body on the other hand is not allowing in. I am sure you have been told this so many times but, you are so strong. You and your unborn baby are very powerful. I have seen cases of the featus not lasting longer than a few weeks after conception. There is a spell we can do take the curse away. However that will endeavor to kill you and your baby whilst your magic is fighting curse"
"So basically, whilst she is pregnant, her body has stopped fighting the curse for her but decided to protect the baby?" Draco asked, trying to digest as much of the information as possible.
"That's correct yes, I will need perform a cesarean section closer to the time. I cannot –in my conscience- allow you to go full term, nor can you deliver the baby naturally. I need you rest as much as possible. This is life and death for you and the baby if your magic decides to pack in …... Can you do that for me Hermione?" Healer Matthews added as an afterthought as she saw how frightened the younger witch looked.
"I think so, Yes" Hermione whispered as a stray tear rolled down her cheek, she brushed it off fiercely. She was Hermione Granger. She would do this for her unborn baby and herself.
