Epilogue

5 years later...

I climbed out of the cab and walked towards the NYC campus and patted my pocket to check that the little black box was still in there, despite the fact I had last checked it less than 2 minutes ago.

I couldn't wait to see her face. I couldn't wait for her to see me there. She thinks I'm out of town for another couple of weeks. This was such a special day for her, how could she think I'd miss her college graduation?

I thought about the last few years and all that we'd been through and survived together. They say most long distance relationships never make it but we beat the odds, we made it and today I'm going to surprise Morgan with the wonderful news that we no longer had to be a long distance couple.

Finnegan and I had made big strides setting up the New Charter it took years of trying to get support for the idea, financial support, testing out amongst the Wiccan community what ideas worked, what needed changing and finalising the revised and updated version of what Wiccan Laws needed to be upheld.

Then it became a game of setting up head quarters, one day our aim is to have a Charter base in every capital city in the world much unlike the ICOW who only ever operated out of England. After two years we had set up head quarters in London, New York, Beijing, Sydney, Dublin and Budapest.

We had to consider what jobs we needed within the council. We looked at policing type jobs like what the Seekers did for the ICOW and discussed what we believe needed to be in their job description. We abolished the term 'seeker' as it made the people in that position seem too unapproachable so we came up with 'Guardians', we wanted them to police and protect witches not just hunt them down and accuse them.

We also had to come up with a fair justice council for those who were accused of breaking the new laws. We worked with excellent spell crafters to create power limiting spells a bit like the reigning spell but less numbing and we were able to control what area of a witches power we could limit for Witches that were found guilty. We decided that it would be safest for all if we continued to completely strip the magick of those who posed serious threats such as the Ciaran's and Selene's of the world.

We then proceeded to take over the Wiccan schools and the facilities that rehabilitated and housed witches that were stripped from their powers or that were mentally unstable or had dementia. We staffed them accordingly with new training and legislation and brought them out of the dark ages.

We also set up a call centre and hired witches to be on the end of the phone for a multitude of possible reasons including - advice and help for spell crafting, potions and other magickal need to know help, reporting problems and/or possible threats or even there to be an ear for personal problems.

Through it all I was still travelling, still making sure we were hiring the right people and rolling out adequate training, attending meetings, signing paperwork and cheques, having to be there to agree to every single decision no matter how big or small. 3 years in, the ICOW had become completely obsolete and the New Charter was in full working force. With Finnegan and I at the top we had no chance to stop or slow down and I was only seeing Morgan for a couple of days to a week in every two months at most and sometimes it became really hard on both of us.

Morgan suggested more than once that perhaps we should call it day because it was hurting us too much to be apart so often but I became stubborn and wouldn't let her give up on me because I knew that one day it would settle down. And I was right, today was that day.

Finnegan and I had a meeting last week, we were both tired from travelling. I missed Morgan and he had a family, a wife, two children who he barely saw and grandchild number 3 whom he'd never even met yet. We agreed that we now had a fully functioning organisation so we could slow down. Finnegan was going to head up the London office and operate from there and I was going to head up the New York office and operate from there. Each of us only needing to participate in a quarterly meeting at one of our main offices, the location of which may require travelling. I was more than ready to agree to that after the last few years, it had been a rollercoaster of ups and downs.

Once of the worst times of my life was when I finally found my parents. A couple of months after working with Finnegan, he agreed to let me use the councils resources to help me find my parents. In my spare time I eventually tracked them down to a log cabin outside of Quebec, but I was too late. Outside the cabin was a grave marked only by carved rock reading "Fiona Niall. Until we meet again, forever yours. Daniel," upon inspecting the cabin I saw that my father had also perished. By the looks of things he had been dead only a couple of months and I was devastated that I had not found him sooner. After some detective work it was clear that he had been using blood magick and was severly neglecting himself, most likely as a result of my mother's death and it became the cause for his own.

I was given a couple of weeks off to grieve and Morgan was my rock during that dark time, eventually though she helped me get back on my feet and reminded me of the importance of my work and I threw myself back into it.

A few times during spring breaks or in the summer Morgan came travelling with me. Unfortunately I was working a lot and still didn't get to see her very much so she spent a lot of time exploring these strange and beautiful cities alone I felt awful because all I wanted to do was show her around. I made a promise to myself that one day I will make up for that. I wanted to make up for all the lost time we had.

Kithic was still meeting weekly. Over the years a few members had left due to moving away for college, but many still lived close enough to each other for the circles. The majority of its members had migrated to the city so they were now held in and around Manhattan. They had gained a few members too, a couple of blood witches as well as a few more non blood witches and it became quite a diverse mixed coven in the New York area.

Killian had remained dedicated in leading the circles and never let them down. There were times he had to change the nights around to make it work around his photography business which was booming and once or twice he asked me to fill in when I was around but he was doing a fine job and I was glad that I had trusted him.

He taught Morgan well and he caught her up quicker than I could have imagined, she was finally able to make her initiation when she was 19. He and Morgan had grew close, especially in my absence. A year after the showdown with Ciaran and Selene, we got word of Ciaran's passing. Morgan had been to visit him once or twice with Killian and she had somewhat conflicting feelings about him. There was a part of her that was so strongly drawn to her birth father but she hated him and everything he stood for and the fact that he had killed many people including her birth mother and her lover Angus, yet despite it all I knew she was hurting when she found out he died.

I escorted her to his funeral. I knew his family and would be able to protect her from them. While we were there we stood at the back and saw his wife Grania, she looked a broken woman, I would go as far as to describe her as frail, Killian was holding her up one side and Kyle on the other. Iona was stood at Kyle's side glaring at Morgan for the most part of the funeral.

Although to be honest, with Killian being the obvious exception, they all pretty much stared daggers at us. They knew I was partially to blame for bringing him down, luckily for Killian, they had no clue about his part in it all and I knew that played heavily on his heart and conscience. And then there was Morgan, the illegitimate daughter. They made it as obvious as they possibly could that we were not welcome there. I remember squeezing Morgan's hand and standing tall beside her and once his body was in the ground and the funeral was over we left.

Unfortunately their hatred for Morgan only grew when they learned Ciaran had left her everything in his will. When it came out Killian feared for his youngest sister's life but Morgan had no intention of having anything that came from her biological father.

She set up a meeting with Ciaran's estate lawyer and Ciaran's family. Of course a fight broke out. Iona tried to choke Morgan and she and Kyle tried to take her down with Magick. Morgan was stronger than the three of them combined and bound them all until they heard her out. They were angry that Killian took Morgan's side and that resulted in his family disowning him.

Morgan went through the list of what was bequeathed to her, it was millions of dollars worth of estate, he owned several properties and had thousands of dollars in savings. She signed it all over to Grania, Iona and Kyle. All except for the house in Red Kill, she signed that over to Killian and knowing that he was a big fan of Ciaran's prized Porsche she signed that over to Killian also.

Killian seemed fairly certain that doing by this his family would go their separate way and leave Morgan alone, it helped that she wasn't responsible for Ciaran's capture or stripping his powers. Killian never spoke to his family since, he sold the house in Red Kill and split the money with Morgan, she reluctantly accepted it (after a lot of persuasion from Killian) and used it to buy a modest studio apartment in New York which also became my home whenever I was in town.

When I arrived on the campus I made my way to the main entrance of the auditorium where Morgan's parents and her sister, Mary K were waiting for me. Once I found them I headed straight over to them. They were in on the surprise and knew I was coming today.

Mary K pulled me in for a hug and a peck on the cheek, "Hello, stranger," she grinned, "Morgan is going to be so excited to see you."

"I do hope so," I replied nervously

"Mr Rowlands," I shook her fathers hand

"Hunter, it's about time you started calling me Sean," we shared a secret smile. We had spoke on the phone earlier in the week. There was another surprise I had in store for Morgan that only he (and Killian) knew about and it was something that I had needed to ask his blessing for.

"Hunter, sweetheart," Morgan's mum put her arms around me, "It's so lovely to see you again, this will be such a lovely surprise for her. She's missing you terribly,"

"And I her," I replied

They began to call people into the auditorium as the ceremony was about to begin. I wasn't sat with Morgan's family as I only found out early last that I could definitely make it, so I ended up getting a ticket seated right at the very back. It was a good thing as I wouldn't be in Morgan's view and it'll be a lot easier to cloak myself from her the farther away I was. I didn't want her to know I was here until after the ceremony as I wanted her to focus on graduating.

As the friends and family had all found their seats we all began to cheer as the graduates began filing in, I looked for Morgan amongst the masses of people wearing their caps and gowns without using my senses as that would only alert her to my presence. Luckily though I spotted her just as she was sitting down. I was dying to see her face properly but I was too far away.

When all the graduates had taken their seats, the college Dean took to the stage to present his speech. My impatience then became my enemy, the speeches felt never ending. After the Dean had spoken a guest speaker, who was some kind of New York politician, came on stage to deliver another rather long and tedious speech and then he was followed by the valedictorian. He delivered something intelligent, witty and meaningful which gained him monumental cheers from the audience but it was still too long for my liking, it was keeping me away from my girl. Finally though they began calling the graduates on stage to collect their various degrees and yet that was still a long process. Nobody warns you how long these things are. Did you know they call people out in alphabetical order? What was that about?

My bum had gone completely numb by the time they finally got to calling out the 'R's I sat up straighter and watched in anticipation as her row stood up and walked towards the stage.

"Morgan Rowlands." as her name was called, Morgan climbed the steps onto the stage. I saw her family cheering for her and wished that I could join in. But I watched her mesmerized as she crossed the stage. It was the first time I had seen her properly in 4 months and my whole body ached for her. I was so proud of her, I watched as she smiled and accepted her degree then shook the hand of the Dean and the guest speaker and she walked off the stage.

When the ceremony ended the graduates lead out first to go and have some group and individual photos taken and we followed out after heading straight to the big gazebo that was put up for the graduates and their families for a champagne celebration. They had put on a fancy buffet spread on but I wasn't hungry, I was just frustrated that I had to wait a little bit longer and I was so done with waiting. Normally I was the epitome of patience but when it came to seeing Morgan I knew I wasn't myself.

Killian came to join us in the Gazebo, "I'm so sorry I'm late!" he said, "I was doing an engagement photo shoot in central park, they were such a demanding couple and ran over their time," he looked over at Morgan's family and smiled at them, "Sean, Mary Grace, how are you?" he kissed Mary Grace and Mary K's cheeks and shook Sean's hand.

"Hello, Killian." Mary Grace smiled at him warmly

It was great that it was no longer awkward when they were all together. After Morgan and Killian spent a year getting to know each other she finally came clean and introduced him to her family.

She had told them that Killian was her biological half brother and he found out about her existence after their father passed away and came looking for her. It took a while for them to warm to him, as Killian was Morgan's blood relative I guess they felt a little intimidated by him, especially Mary K. I don't think it helped when they could see that he too was a blood witch and that he and Morgan shared a deep connection that they could never understand.

After a while though they seemed to accept his presence in her life. Morgan even explained to them that her biological father's wife and other two children hated her and were horrible to her when they first met because she was an illegitimate child, but said that Killian stuck up for her and was disowned by his family as a result.

The Rowland's took pity on him after that and began to treat Killian like an extended member of their family and even invited him to join them for family holidays.

Killian pulled me into a brotherly hug, "How you doing, man?" he asked, "It's been too bloody long!"

"I know" I tried to recall the last time I had seen him, I think it was during a weekend visit I spent in New York about 10 months ago one where I was actually available to attend a Kithic circle. "But it all stops now," I assured him, he too was in on my big news.

A few moments later some of the graduates started appearing. "She's coming," Killian said, I moved away over towards the buffet table so that she wouldn't see me right away and strengthened my cloaking spells.

I watched as she entered the gazebo and zeroed in on her family. Even in that ridiculous cap and gown she looked beautiful. I turned my back and pretended to be browsing the buffet table as she made her way over and I listened as Killian and her family were congratulating her. I let them have their moment.

I patted my pocket again and felt it still nestled there. Relieved I turned and watched as Killian handed Morgan a champagne flute and they shared a quick toast.

That's when I decided to send her a witch message. Hello, love. She immediately stopped in her tracks and nearly dropped her glass. She looked towards the opening of the gazebo trying to find me. Trying not to chuckle out loud I dropped my cloaking spells and she instantly turned her head in my direction. She passed Killian her flute and hurried over to me, crashing straight into my arms, exactly where she belongs.

"You're here!"she cried, she sounded so happy.

"As if I'd miss today, really, Morgan."we kissed and held each other soaking up each other's presence, this was worth the wait, she was always worth the wait, "Goddess, I missed you so much," I said as I breathed her in.

"I missed you more," she stepped back to take me in as if to assure herself I was really there and wiped away her tears. "you're really here," she said again

"I never wish to be anywhere else," I whispered

"Then don't be," she pouted, "stay with me,"

Every time we were reunited she would ask me to stay with her and my reply was always "One day, I promise" but today I had a different answer.

"Yes," I breathed, "This time, I'll stay." She looked up at me confused, she was so used to my other answer so she didn't quite believe the one I was giving her now. "I'm staying," I said again, "No more travelling," I promised, "I'm back for good,"

Morgan squealed and said something that I didn't quite make out and leaped into my arms again. I smiled and placed random kisses all over her face.

"So you don't have to go away again?" she asked again wanting me to reaffirm what I told her

"Finnegan and I have decided enough is enough," I told her, "The organisation can run sufficiently without needing us for every little decision now. Finnegan is going to stay based in London and run things from there, I'll be doing the same here in the city. We may need to travel for a meeting one weekend in every couple of months but other than that I'm here now and you and I can really start our lives together. I'm done with the separation, I literally can't do it anymore."

"Me neither," she sobbed, "I just can't believe it." she sniffed, "You told me that the travelling would stop one day, but I guess I never truly believed it. Goddess, I still don't believe it,"

"You'll believe it after a couple of weeks when you're sick of the sight of me taking up all the space in our apartment," I joked with her

"I'll never be sick of the sight of you," I pulled her back into my arms and kissed her again. I could never get enough of her kisses.

"Are you happy, Morgan?" I asked her

"Goddess, yes! Of course I'm happy Hunter, I can't remember the last time I felt this happy,"

"Good," I was delighted that I made her feel that way. We held each other a while longer sharing a private moment and then going against all my instincts to drag her off and have my wicked way with her we rejoined her family.

They all smiled knowingly at us "You all knew about this?" she accused them.

"We wanted you to have this lovely surprise," Mary K told her

"It's the best surprise," she beamed and kissed her sisters cheek

"Well," I began, "Not the best surprise,"

Now only Sean and Killian understood what I was talking about, the women gave me questioning looks as I pulled out the box I got down on one knee.

"Hunter, what are you doing?" Morgan whispered, completely stunned.

I opened the box and displayed the engagement ring before her and cast out all my feelings of love and adoration that I had for her just so that she could feel exactly how powerful it is,

"Ever since that day when I first saw you, juggling that big pile of books, I knew I loved you. You changed me in so many ways, you saved me even when I thought I was beyond saving. You are my hearts ease and my one true soul mate. I don't want to live another day without you at my side." I took her left hand in mine, "Morgan Rowlands, I love you so much. Will you marry me?"

Morgan's eyes were flooded with tears she nodded before finally finding her voice, "Yes," she said

The whole room burst into applause and that's when I realised that everyone had stopped to witness my proposal. Normally I was a little shy and wasn't one for big public displays of affection but right now I didn't care. "Yes," she said again, I placed the engagement ring on her finger, it was a little loose, and I stood up and kissed her which sparked more cheering from our spectators.

As Morgan got pulled away by her family to hug and congratulate us I watched on as she smiled her brilliant white smile and showed off the ring to her family. I watched her in awe, she was so beautiful and strong. Blessed with such divine gifts from the Goddess, she was a force to be reckoned with. She was going to accomplish great things one day for the Wiccan world and I couldn't wait to see all the goodness she was going to achieve.

But she had started with me, she saved me and turned my life around completely. she made me whole again and she completed me.

A part of me still believed that I didn't deserve to be so lucky but here I am engaged to the love of my life and our story was just beginning.
