Defending Ace

It was around Luffy Birthday; his birth day is May 5th and today was May 1st. So I had a little money and decided to go in Edge Town and get Luffy something for his 10th birthday, something instead of meat.

I had a couple hundred Berries from my birthday from Gar-Grandpa. I call him that now, but sometimes I think of him as Garp instead. Trust me though, I rarely slip around him, I'm sick of getting his 'Fist of Love'. It hurts more than when Ace hits me.

Ok, back to what I was going, it was around 5 o'clock, almost night time and the bars were started to get filled with drunkards and people just getting off work. I had my hands in my pockets and was whistling while looking at the stores. There were bars scattered here and there.

I was in a good mood and thought nothing could ruin my mood. Ace and Luffy knew I was gone and were waiting for me to finish. I then saw a cool skull and bones chain that I thought Luffy would like and then walked over to it. I was near a bar and it had already had music coming from it.

I looked at the window and smiled, I think he would like it and he usually does like stuff that comes from me. There was shouting from a bar and I ran a hand through my hair and frowned as I felt it reach my shoulders, later I'll ask Ace to cut it. I was about to walk in the store when the men came out. I also had a wooden sword, I got it last year. It was attached to a tough piece of string attached to my hips.

They were laughing loudly and I could tell they were drunk. I glanced over to see 3 of them and I placed a hand on the hilt of my sword instinctively. One of them said. "Yeah, remember that dumb kid that asked us that stupid question a couple of days ago?"

I can't say I was not curious. I was going to wait a moment before I went inside the store. Only my brothers and the poor kids hang around here. It was similar to a Red Light District here, they actually have one. The third drunk said. "Yeah! If a kid of Gol D. Roger was born!"

My face twitched Ace…I guess he was here. My hands shook slightly at what these bastards must of said to him. The second one said. "Yeah and we told him the truth alright, a kid like that should be tortured and stuck in Impel Down!"

I didn't know what that was, but I knew it was not good. The first one laughed. "Or beaten to death for the Pirate King's sins!"

I ground my teeth; they dare talk to Ace that way?! I usually don't pick unnecessary fights, but I'm pissed now. I marched over to them and snapped. "Hey you!"

They all looked over to see me and the second drunk smirked. "What you want kid?"

I glared angrily and. "What were you saying earlier about a kid from Gol D. Roger?"

They laughed and the second bastard said with a sneer. "Another one?! Well we meant what we said!"

The other two shook their heads in agreement. I crouched and said. "Then I have to kick your ass."

They all laughed uproariously at me and my lips turned into a snarl as I sprung and grabbed the first one's shoulder tightly with my hand and swung my shin around to smash into his face. He screamed in pain and fell on his backside, holding his nose. I winced at the pain in my leg.

One down, two to go.

They both rushed at me and I ducked down letting them crash into each other and attacked the second guy with my sword drawn and he lifted his neck at me (trying to show pride or something like that) and I slammed the hilt with all my rage and 10 year old strength into his wide pipe. He gave a choked sound and fell to his knees, clutching his neck and wheezing.

I had an eye on the second guy too long (he pissed me off the most) and when I turned a booted foot caught me in the stomach. I grabbed it and fell to my knees. The first one and the third guy ganged up on me as the second one ran off.

I was kicked in the face right in my right temple. I fell flat on my back as darkness flashed and stars were in my eyes and I blinked away the tears of pain. A hard boot caught me in the side and I gasped in pain as more kicks hit me and I curled into a ball.

Soon enough they stopped and I had blood in my mouth. I was lifted by the back of my shirt and I looked at the first guy. His nose was crooked and most likely broken. He asked. "If you say sorry and tell me I was right, we'll let you live."

I gave him a glare and knew my pride and loyalty to Ace would never let me apologize and reared my head back and slammed it into the second guy's head. I felt starts in my eyes as he dropped me with his hands covering his eyes.

I hated that I had to do this, but I was really injured. I took the hilt of my sword and slammed it into his lower region. He gave a high pitched squeal and fell on his face. I ran off and limped my way through the Grey Terminal and to Dadan's house.

Luffy and Ace were waiting outside and I cursed in my head, how was I going to tell them what happened to me? Luffy and Ace looked happy to see me until they saw the state I was in. I got in front of them, but my vision went black and I fell only to have someone catch me.

Ace POV

Mace came running and at first I was glad to see her and maybe felt like hitting her for taking too long since I had to keep Luffy company so she could get his present and have help with Luffy's energy. Then I saw her banged up like she was in a fight and I caught her before she hit the ground.

I picked her up and carried her inside the hut with the bandits gasping when they saw her. Luffy was on my heels and my eyes were narrowed in anger at the person or people that did this.

I laid her down on the mat and looked her over with Luffy next to me. Her face had a couple of bruises and when I touched her side she winced even in her sleep and I frowned. I lifted up her shirt and swore under my breath. Her ribs were deeply bruised and I wondered if her ribs were cracked. I pried the sword from her hands and rolled my eyes. Even like this, she does not let go of her sword. I said. "Luffy, get me a First-Aid Kit."

He nodded with a pissed off expression and went to look for one. I felt her legs and could feel no injuries there. The bandits were around and I snapped. "Go away, will you?!"

Most of them scampered off and only Dadan, Magra and Dogra stayed. I hate to say it, but they were the closest bandits in this place to us. Dadan the old bat looked pissed and Dorga and Magra looked worried. Luffy came back and I began to sit her up and she gasped in pain, but I wrapped her ribs tightly. Luffy was mad when I laid her back down. "Who did this? Those damn bastards!"

I punched him on the head. "Shut up, you're being too loud."

He nodded and clasped his hands over his mouth with wide eyes. We then sat there and waiting for her to wake.

Mace POV

I woke up with a gasp of pain and saw Ace and Luffy near me with Dadan, Dogra and Magra in the backround. Luffy was blunt as always. "What happened Mace?"

I shrugged and looked at the roof of the hut. "Nothing."

Ace snapped. "Nothing my ass! You came in here looking like you got into a brawl!"

I glared at him. "It was for a good cause."

He had a pissed off look in his eyes and I knew if he saw those guya, he would show no mercy. Luffy was angry. "Whoever did this needs to pay."

I smiled and went to ruffle his hair only to wince in pain. Luffy then decided to curl by my side and place his hat on my chest. I smiled warmly as he fell asleep just like that. Ace stared at me with a dark expression and suddenly left. I yawned and curled up into Luffy even if it hurt a bit and fell asleep, my injuries taking a toll on my body.

Ace POV

Ace was pissed, he knew someone hurt her and she was hiding it from her brothers and he would not allow it. Something bad might happen. He walked where Edge Town was becaause he knew Edge Town was the only place where she could buy something and heard people talking at a bar. "Yeah, we gave her a beat down alright."

It was three men that were a bit drunk, but they were injured. He looked at them, one had a blood covered nose and seemed to hold his own side. The second had a bruised face and seemed to have a limp in his step and the last one seemed to wheeze a bit. He knew these must be the people. He marched up to them with a pissed off gleam in his eye and they looked at him. The second bastard smirked. "Oh, it's you!"

He snapped not in the mood. "Why'd you attack the girl?"

The third one laughed. "She was saying crap and defended your stupid question."

His eyes widened in shock as he thought about what would happen if she heard someone bad mouthing him with her temper. The first one said. "Yeah these too gave her quite the beat down, though I helped!"

He tensed and raised the pipe he had in his hand and attacked them, let's face it, they never had a change in hell. He walked back as he rubbed the blood from his pipe, feeling better now. He was shocked she defended him like that and she also did a number on them. He would ever admit it, but she warmed his heart reminding himself that he lived for both of them. He was still going to have a word with her. He walked in and dropped the pipe on the ground. She was awake now and sat up slowly.

He nodded head and with a wince, she slowly walked with him outside stiffly. They both leaned against the hut wall. He frowned and said lowly. "I know what you did."

She said, turning to him with a determined look. "Yeah and I don't regret it."

She then was looking toward the ground deep in thought, but Ace knew she was telling the truth. Suddenly he felt a deep anger and gratitude in his chest. Angry that she risked herself like that and gratitude that she defended him like that. He decided to show it like he normally does…he punched her hard in the head. She yelped in protest and glared at him, covering the bump. "What the hell?! That's the thanks I get!?"

He turned away as his lips turned into a small smile. "Thanks."

She swallowed the angry retort and grinned at him. "Anytime, brother."

She out her hands behind her head and sighed even if it was a wince. She then groaned. "Dammit!"

Ace whipped around and asked while looked at her torso. "What? What is it?"

Mace pouted. "I went through all that and didn't even get Luffy a present."

Ace looked at her with a blank look before face palming and said in the most deadpanned voice he could. "Mace, just shut up."

She saw the look on his face and thought it was wise to do so. They then hung around in comfortable silence until Luffy's started yelling her name. He found them and plopped his hat on her head and said it was to help her get better. They seemed to forget what happened except for the glances to her torso and Mace was in pain everytime she took a breath, but could not seem to regret it and knew she would do it again.

So that is my One-shot for the Pirate King, Gol D. roger and I hoped you liked it. I would like to honor this great man and Happy Birthday to hi, I could see in my head Buggy and Shanks partying extra hard today! Happy New Year! Tell me what you think!
