Chapter 10
Meeting Usopp and the Butler's Evil Plan
I woke up on one end of the boat with Zoro laying across from me on the other end and Luffy squeezed in the middle of us. We needed to get a real ship soon if we were to have another crew member join us, there is no room and I have a feeling Nami wouldn't share her's. Speaking of Nami, she was telling them we we're not prepared. I yawned. "Morning."
They looked at me and Zoro nodded, smirking. "You're finally up, Mace."
Nami was getting a bit annoying with her nagging. Plus I'm bored. I frowned and looked down, a dark look over my face as I said quietly. "It could be the swordsman curse."
Zoro blinked and stared at me in disbelief, Luffy looked awed and Nami was confused and a little curious. Luffy asked. "What is it!?"
I sighed in a depressed way. "This is for the swordsman that sleep all day because…"
I had all their attention now and I looked at them all and finished what I was going to say. "…they are near annoying ass navigators that nag too much!"
It was silent and Luffy said blankly. "I don't get it."
Zoro fell back and burst out laughing and Nami turned red in anger. I was laughing loudly too, my shoulders shaking in mirth. Nami yelled. "Why can't you be serious, dammit?!"
I grinned widely at her, scoffing happily. "But you believed it, a swordsman curse."
I smirked at her and her eyes were almost narrowed into slits. I rolled my eyes. "The only thing of a swordsman that can be cursed is the sword though I never seen one. Zoro, have you?"
He shook his head. "No. Not yet."
I pouted; I would love to hear about one. I felt something hard hit me in the head and looked to see an apple. I grabbed and took a bite as Nami sighed in aggravation. She seemed to ignore me and then I sighed, my entertainment gone. Nami then sighed loudly and said. "You all need to be serious as I was saying before; acting like this will never get us to the Grand Line."
I blinked what? Is joking around wrong? Luffy then agreed saying he wanted meat and Zoro wanted booze. She looked at me with a blank look, I frowned. "What"?
She scowled. "You don't want to add anything stupid?"
I shrugged. "I don't need anything though booze and food sounds nice too."
She shook her head as if saying we were hopeless. She needs to act more relaxed or something. Nami said. "That's not what I'm talking about; you need more than meat and booze to survive."
Luffy then crawled over my lap and sat on the mast above me. I grunted as his weight landed all on my right leg. I rubbed it and look up, glaring. He ignored it and said. "Yeah, we need to a musician."
Nami face-palmed, Zoro laughed and I chuckled. He really wants one; he has been talking about it for a while. Nami called us some chosen names and then it was silent again and I threw my apple core into the ocean. Hey, I have nowhere else to put it. Nami suddenly said. "There is an island south of here."
Finally, I want to see what the new island is like. Luffy and Zoro got excited at this. Luffy said. "Yay, meat!"
Zoro said. "And Booze."
Soon enough we stopped at this beach and I stretched when I got on the sand. I felt and heard a couple of bones pop. I saw Zoro do the same. "It feels so good to be on land."
Luffy said. "That's only because you sleep the whole time."
I snorted, it was all he did and he even slept more than me. Nami then told us that this island had a small village in it and Luffy got in her face yelling about meat until she got aggravated with him. My face twitched as I heard something and I looked at Zoro, he heard it too. I put a hand on the hilt of my sword and Zoro slid his a little out of the sheath as he said. "Be careful, someone is here."
Nami and Luffy both looked at us. Luffy then got excited and started jumping around trying to see who it was and if they had meat. I should really teach him who to accept food from. He'd be someone's best friend if they gave him meat. Zoro yelled. "Look out!"
I looked to see a little ammo of some kind was being thrown at us and I ducked away from it and Luffy was jumping around as I saw Nami run behind the boats in the corner of my eye. Some type of flags started popping up everywhere with a 'o' and I blinked, what the hell is this? A boy suddenly showed on a rock and said dramatically. "I'm Capain Usopp and am a pirate that controls this island. Leave now as I have my 80,000 followers!"
I snorted and a couple of thoughts rolled in my head. Liar was the first one and the second thing was that I know I heard his name frown somewhere. Luffy shouted with his 'amazed' face. "AWESOME!"
I chuckled as I shared a look with Nami and Zoro. Nami face was shocked and Zoro just had disbelief. Nami decided to say. "Do you expect us to believe that?"
He then grabbed his head and looked horrified. "Ah, she knows."
Nami raised an eyebrow. "I do now."
I asked. "Why don't you just let the kid have his fun?"
Usopp snapped. "I'm not a kid, I' the great-"
I waved him off and he said. "I have my 80,000 followers if you insult me again."
Zoro gave a snort and I looked at him unimpressed. Nami though seemed to smirk at him and said. "I'm guessing three."
Then three kids darted from behind him and ran off making Usopp yell at them. I looked at her surprised, a bit amazed. I didn't know how many were hiding. I looked back toward Usopp. Luffy then laughed, but that seemed to really piss him off or something because he drew what looked to be a slingshot and said. "I'll show you why people call me proud Usopp instead of pushover Usopp. This is as strong as a pistol."
I felt myself smile, I remember when Luffy said that 10 years ago to Shanks. Luffy let his hat shadow his eyes and I went along with it and tilted my head downward letting shadows cover it, wiping the smile from my face. Luffy said. "Now that you draw your pistol, are you ready to use it? Guns are for actions, not threats, are you willing to risk your life?"
I smirked darkly at him knowing what Luffy was doing. Shanks words made me want to grin, but I restricted it and Zoro said lowly. "Yeah boy, we are real pirates."
I chuckled coldly. "Yeah, can you fight us?"
He then slid to his knees and started saying we were cool and stuff. I smirked more in pride now. All three of started at each other and then we laughed loudly amused that this kid actually fell for it. Luffy then said. "I stole that from someone by the way."
Usopp looked at us blankly and I elaborated. "Yeah. From Red-haired Shanks."
He gaped at the both of us. Luffy said. "Yeah, Yasopp is your dad right?"
He then rolled down the slope/rock he was on. I winced, that had to hurt. I then smiled, that's where I remembered him. Then Luffy's stomach growled and Usopp decided to take us to a restaurant. Luffy was hanging on me the entire time we walked and whining in my ear. Zoro snickered at this and Usopp asked. "Is that normal?"
Nami nodded. "Yeah, they do it all the time."
I mock frowned at Nami. "Now, that just sounded dirty."
Her face went red. "I didn't mean it like that, you idiot!"
Zoro said. "Yeah, they're brothers."
It was quiet and Nami asked. "Don't you mean brother and sister?"
I sighed, here we go again. Luffy jumped off me and walked backwards. "Nope, were brothers!"
Usopp said. "But she's a girl."
I looked to see Luffy having a pout on his face and I smirked. He said. "Stop saying that!"
I chuckled and said. "We're brothers, nothing else to it."
They both looked at us with deadpanned expressions and Nami shook her head and sighed, like she was saying 'I give up' or something. Usopp frowned, not really understanding us much. I heard about Usopp a lot more since I hung out with Benn and Yasopp a lot even when I talked to Shanks too.
We finally arrived at the restaurant and Luffy cheered as he ran in and Usopp ran after him and I, Zoro and Nami walked in at a normal pace. I sat next to Nami on one side of a booth and Zoro and Luffy sat across from us as Usopp pulled a chair. We ordered a lot of food when someone came to take our order. It went like this:
Luffy: Meat! And lots of it!
Zoro: Booze!
Nami: Anything is fine
Usopp: Fish.
Me: Meat and booze.
The person walked away and we sat around and I sighed. Luffy was drooling at the direction of the kitchen, Zoro looked bored as did Nami and Usopp looked excited, but I was guessing because this place was a bit like Fushia, a small village kind of thing. Soon enough our food got here and Luffy scarfed it down right away. I said. "Word of the wise, protect your food from him."
Zoro and Nami nodded have seen him eat before. I ate quickly, a habit and drank my booze too. I shook my head slightly at the burning feeling at the back of my throat, but it was pleasant at the same time.
Soon enough, my stomach was bulging and I leaned back with a content sigh and I felt a warm feeling that had to do with the booze. I closed my eyes and opened then again a little while later when I heard my name coming from Luffy. "Mace knows more, but he used to make my ears bleed at how much he would talk about you!"
So he must be talking about Yasopp. I nodded. "He talked a lot, but went from talking about the passion of the sea and you. You do look a bit like him and he a' sounded mighty proud whenever he did talk about ya."
A slight accent crept on my tongue which usually happens when I drink. Luffy said. "He said he could shot right from an ant's antenna!"
I chuckled remembered when we were with him at the time and then he went back to talking about his son. You could easily tell he was prideful of his boy. Usopp looked at me and I nodded in agreement. Zoro and Nami ignored of conversation not knowing about it and Zoro asked me. "You ain't going to drink anymore?"
I shook my head, smiling. "Naw, I haven't drunk much where I'm from and I don't feel like getting drunk in a place I don't really know."
He snorted with a smirk and said, taking a long drink. "So, you're a lightweight?"
I glared, my face a little pink. "Shut up! I didn't say that!"
He shoulders shook as he laughed at me and my embarrassment.
Zoro and Luffy called out.
"Booze!"
"Meat!"
Usopp asked. "So why are you guys here?"
Nami was the one that spoke up. "We're looking for a boat, you know any around here?"
Usopp shook his head no. "This is a small time village, you won't find any here."
Luffy spoke up. "We're also looking for new crewmates."
Usopp looked excited as he said. "I know someone!"
Luffy looked excited. "Really? Who?" I smirked at Usopp's words. It was obvious who he was talking about. He exclaimed. "Me as your captain!"
I snorted loudly as me, Nami, Zoro and Luffy all said with deadpanned expressions. "No thanks."
He screamed at us. "You won't even think about it!"
I laughed it off and Usopp shook his head and sighed. "Like I said though, you won't find any boats here."
Zoro pointed at something that looked like a building out the window. "What about that place?"
Usopp then started sweating as he said. "Huh, that place? Oh, it's nothing! STAY AWAY FROM THERE!"
We looked at him shocked from his abrupt change in mood. Suddenly, he looked at his arm and jumped up. "I have to be somewhere, bye!"
He ran off and I scratched the back of my neck. "That was odd."
Nami rolled her eyes. "You think?"
I said. "There is no need to be sarcastic."
Luffy looked at me confused as Zoro snorted. My brother asked. "What does Carstic mean?"
I rolled my eyes fondly at my brother and said. "One, its call sarcastic and it means…er, when you say the opposite of what you mean."
He nodded looking like he got it and then said. "Right! It's a mystery word."
I laughed as Zoro and Nami face palmed. Nami yelled. "She just explained it, you moron!"
I said, closing my eyes with a grin. "Just give up."
She nodded with a sigh. I heard the door open and let my eyes open to see three kids with wooden swords coming in. They were being 'sneaky' and Luffy exclaimed. "Ah, that was good meat!"
I smirked as they freaked out. I heard them mumbling something about us being monsters and eating Usopp. I smirked wider. I heard them mutter. "Meat? Do you think they ate them?"
I looked at Zoro, knowing a good swordsman had to have good hearing and he nodded with a smirk of his own. Nami was even giggling behind her hand. Zoro smirked darkly. "If you're wondering about your Captain…we ate him!"
They looked at him in horror and shock and I grinned sadistically and said in mock disappointment. "Too bad it didn't have much meat."
They finally screamed and pointed at Nami, calling her a monster. I and Zoro laughed at this and Luffy didn't know what happened, but he grinned with us. Nami though was pissed and I finally said. "We didn't eat your Captain, he ran off saying he had to do something."
They looked at us with relief and one of them said. "He went to see Kaya, the sick girl in the mansion."
I nodded. "That must be the place Usopp was talking about."
We all got up and followed the kids. I gave a closer look at them. One had straw like blond hair, another had a hat on and purple hair. The last one had green hair shaped like a pepper. I whispered to Zoro with a smirk, wanting to get back a him for making fun of me earlier. "Hey Zoro?"
He raised an eyebrow. "What?"
I smirked wider. "Is the green haired one your little brother, you both have green hair."
He scowled at me, jabbing me in the ribs with his elbow. I couldn't dodge because I was laughing. He snapped. "Shut up, idiot."
I just grinned at him, making him glare at me. I grew up with an older brother, I knew how to annoy people. The same goes for Luffy.
Nami asked. "Who are you kids?"
The straw haired kid said. "I'm Onion."
The Green haired one said. "I'm Pepper."
The last one said. "I'm Carrot."
I snorted and gave a quick laugh as they looked at me confused. I said. "You all could make a good soup."
They freaked out thinking I was going to eat them after all and I grinned which made Zoro and Luffy laughed too and I yelped as I felt a punch to my head. I looked to see Nami glaring at me and I rubbed my head. I did not need someone hitting me like that. I had Ace do it for 10 years and did not need her to do it. She snapped. "Shut up, will you?"
I shrugged, frowning at her and we reassured them I was not going to eat them. Then they told us that Usopp told lies to the sickly girl to make her feel better because her parents died a year ago. I feel bad for her; she must have loved them a lot, to go as far as to getting sick over something like that. I stuffed my hands into my pockets as a deeper frown was on my lips and we ended up at the mansion gate. Luffy then said. "Let's go get a boat since she's happier now."
I shook my head as Zoro said. "We're not the ones to make her happy, he is."
I nodded in agreement and I could tell Nami did not want to ask for something from a sick girl. I didn't think she would give us a boat not matter how nice she was.
He suddenly grinned with a look in his eyes and stretched his arms to the top of the fence. I smirked, already knowing what he was doing. Zoro and Nami seemed to get the idea. They latched on him along with the kids and he braced his sandaled feet on the gate and said. "Sorry, for the intrusion..."
He was pulled back by Nami and Zoro (they must of thought they could stop him), but all Luffy said was. "Gum-Gum…Rocket!"
He then flung them all over the fence and I laughed loudly as I saw them flying and screaming. I grabbed a part of the fence and started climbing though it was a bit hard as my feet slipped a little. I got to the top and jumped down. I heard yells that sounded like, "Luffy" and "Idiot". I chuckled and walked toward the noise, it's how I could always find Luffy.
I saw Zoro and Nami just getting up and Luffy was talking to a blond girl from a window sill and Usopp was up in a tree. Some guy in a suit with gold on it was glaring at my brother and I frowned at the way he was looking at him. I walked over to the group and asked. "Is there a problem?"
I had my hand on the hilt of my sword. The guy looked at me and where my hand was, he said. "No, I'm the butler of this mansion and you all need to leave now!"
I shrugged, so I guess Luffy just annoyed him or something. I stood next to Zoro as the man called Usopp out when he tried to hide in the tree. He said. "Your father has quite the reputation."
I frowned with narrowed eyes, where is he going with this? He better not insult Yasopp. Usopp questioned him and Kaya (the blond) yelled. "Stop!"
I crossed my arms over my chest. The butler said. "You will always be a son of a filthy pirate."
Ace flashed in my mind and I gritted my teeth. He then accused him of trying to steal the girl's money and she yelled at him. Usopp was getting pissed and I narrowed my eyes even more and knew it was not my fight. I knew as much as I really wanted to slice this guy, I couldn't.
Usopp yelled. "Don't you dare insult my father ever again!"
He jumped down from the tree. I could not really relate with him as I could with Ace or Sabo. All of us hated our fathers and don't care what is said about them personally. The butler said. "Why have you gotten so worked up? You could have told me he was a traveling merchant or you were not related by blood."
Usopp punched him in anger.
I smirked darkly, the bastard deserves it. The butler sat up from being punched to the ground and said. "I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
Usopp exclaimed. "My father chose the life of adventure! I'm proud to say my old man is a brave warrior of the sea. I do lie from time to time, but I will never lie about my heritage; I am a son of a pirate!"
I smiled, good for him. The butler said. "Just tell the truth, you are here for her fortune!"
Kaya screamed. "Shut up, Kurahadol!"
I laughed under my breath; people have such weird ass names. Usopp said. "You're wrong."
Kurahadol said loudly. "Trickery is in your blood; you're born to deceive."
Usopp raced forward and grabbed him by the front of his jacket. Kaya yelled at them to stop and he finally let go of the butler with his head down and said. "I don't plan on it."
He walked off, an upset and pissed off air around him. The kids then shouted from nowhere. "Jerk!"
I shook my head with a deep sigh.
"Yeah, Jerk!" I looked to see Luffy getting, held back by Zoro as he tried to go at Kurahadol.
I walked forward about to deal with the cocky bastard, but felt someone grip my collar. I looked to see Nami was the one and she had such a pissed and dangerous look on her face, I gulped lightly and slumped a little. I felt like he had insulted Ace and Yasopp and I hurt anyone that talks bad about my family, simple as that. I frowned. "He deserves it."
Nami glared more and said. "Stop looking for a fight."
I snapped back, feeling anger rise in me again. "It's wrong!"
I was answered, but it was not from Nami this time. "It's not your fight."
I looked to see Zoro still holding Luffy, but they were both looking at me in the eyes. I sighed and Nami let go of me and I said with narrowed eyes at Kurahadol, who was glaring at us. "Yeah, but he insulted me too."
Zoro asked. "Your father a pirate or something?"
I shook my head and started walking off. "Not mine."
I walked off after giving the butler one of my dirty looks and he just stared at me with a look in his eye. I sighed and I heard footsteps behind me as Luffy ran at the direction Usopp ran off to and I knew that I should just walk with Nami, Zoro and the kids to cool down. Luffy can act annoying a lot and when my temper is running high, I don't like being around him.
We ended up walking down a dirt road and stopped at a fence. I hopped on and sat with my feet dangling. I sighed as Zoro and Nami leaned against it. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply as Nami was saying something, but I was too lost into my thoughts. It really pissed me off because there was this one time that I beat up some guys bigger than me when I was a kid because they insulted Ace on Gol D. Roger being his dad.
I got pounded pretty badly, but I didn't regret it. I was very pissed as I heard the butler talk and Usopp does not seem that bad. Suddenly I heard the three kids yelling and I flashed my eyes open to see a weird looking man that was walking backwards with a hand on his hat in a suit that looked like it was from the 70's or 80's. The guy said. "I'm not weird; I'm a normal looking guy."
Nami had a blank look as she said. "No, you're not, You look really weird."
I smirked despite how annoyed I was. She and Luffy did have something in common. Both were blunt most of the time. The weird guy said. "I'm just an ordinary hypnotist."
I asked. "How is that normal at all?"
He ignored me and I glared, he just made my bad mood worse. The kids called out. "Hypnotist! Show us something!"
To me this guy looked like a jacked up Michael Jackson or something. He said. "I have not time to deal with kids…just look at this ring."
I blinked and asked Zoro. "Didn't he just say he wasn't going to show us?" He looked at me with a look that said 'I really don't want to deal with this guy'. Nami had the same look on her face.
Then the kids and the other guy all fell asleep and Zoro and Nami yelled at him. I rubbed my forehead as I felt a headache.
He then got up and walked off without saying anything. Soon the kids got up and Zoro asked. "Where is that Usopp guy?"
They told us about a mountain cliff he goes to when he is upset and we guessed Luffy must have followed him. So we followed the kids to the cliff so we could get Luffy. It took a little bit. We walked the steep hill and looked around, but could not see Usopp or Luffy. I frowned as Nami almost slipped and she screamed. I jumped and walked quickly to her and I saw Luffy lying with his butt in the air.
I chuckled because I knew he was not dead or hurt. Luffy fell from so many distances back home, I can't count them all. I skid down the slope and landed next to Luffy and Zoro landed next to us. Zoro poked him in the behind with his sheathed sword and he jumped up with a grin. "Good Morning!"
I chuckled and said. "Luffy, you fell again."
He grinned at me and suddenly said. "Oh, crap!"
By this time Nami and the three little kids gathered around him and Luffy said. "The butler guy and some weird guy are going to kill that Kaya girl tomorrow."
I blinked and then my eyes hardened. I knew something was wrong with that man. They were just going to kill her? I asked Luffy. "Do you know why?"
He nodded with a frown. "Yeah, for her money."
My frowned deepened, money. Is that what everything comes down to? Luffy was sitting and exclaimed in shock. "Man, what happens if we don't get to the butcher in time?"
I face palmed even if I shouldn't be surprised and Zoro and Nami yelled at him. We walked to the place we were before and Luffy was asking me for food again and I ignored him and he kept on going on until Nami punched him in the head. I grimaced, but at least he is off my back.
We stopped when we heard running and I looked to see Usopp with a weird expression on his face. He looked really upset and I frowned, wondering why. The kids told him what happened and he laughed loudly. "Ha, I was lying about that!"
The kids were disappointed in his, but I frowned deeper than before. His laugh was the most fakest thing I ever heard.
"I can't believe you would lie like that!"
"Yeah, I'm disappointed in you, Captain!"
"Let's go home, I think Mom is making Roast Beef."
They walked off mumbling about Usopp and I narrowed my eyes at Usopp. He looked hurt with every word they said. Luffy asked. "Why did you lie?"
He said. "I-I had too! To protect them."
We then walked down the road and then Nami noticed something. "Hey, you have blood on your arm."
He nodded and Nami fixed it as he hissed in pain. Nami said. "Quit you whining already!"
I snorted and said with a teasing smile. "Jeez Nami, so mean."
She glared at me. "Shut up with you're damn jokes."
Luffy laughed and Zoro snorted. At least that lightened the atmosphere a little. She glared at them, but finished with Usopp. Soon we were all sitting around. Zoro said. "That was a pretty brave thing you did, sending your friends away to keep them safe."
Usopp nodded. "There just kids, I have to fight on my own!"
I raised an eyebrow. "You really think you can defeat him?"
Nami sent me a look, but I ignored it. Zoro did too, but it was not dirty, but calculating. Luffy just stood there was his rare 'Poker Face'. I was trying to see what he would do if he knew he had no help. He got up and yelled from shaking knees. "So what if I can't win?! I know that! But if I don't fight them, they Kaya and the villagers will get killed! I can't let that happen, so I'll fight!"
He had tears going down his face at this point. Luffy grinned and said. "Yeah, we'll help you!"
Zoro nodded in agreement. "Yeah, since you're willing to fight and all."
Usopp gasped. "Really!?"
I said. "Yeah, if you were not going to fight and hide instead, we would not help, but you are so we will."
He looked at us with such gratitude and I looked down and gave a smirk with a 'huh'. Luffy and Nami smiled as Zoro smirked. Nami called out. "Yeah and I get all the treasure!"
I groaned as Zoro gave a scowl and Luffy laughed. I said. "You're such a witch!"
She glared and said. "Shut up, idiot!"
I scowled at her. "Are you gonna make me!?"
She snapped with her teeth looking like sharks. "You don't watch it and I will, She-Hulk!"
I snapped. "What the hell did you call me, you money grubbing witch!?"
Zoro laughed at us and she scowled at me and Usopp looked at me and her nervously. I don't know what, but she gets on my nerves. Money was always nothing to me and I had bad experiences with it especially concerning Sabo. Money does people no good at all in the end. Usopp said. "W-Well I'll l-lead the w-way!"
I blinked at him in confusion. "What are you stuttering so badly?"
Nami grumbled under her breath. We all followed Usopp as he led us somewhere and the only thing I could think of was, maybe I can get a real fight and most defiantly not like the last one!
So this is it and I am sorry for the long wait! I'm going between this one and a Fairy Tail I just started. I hope you liked this and I would like to let you know I will be done with the Usopp Arc next chapter! Tell me what you think!
