Luffy's Birthday
One-Shot
Edit: 7/9/16 Time: 7:16 pm
I woke up to see Nami not in her bed like usual. I guess looking at the weather and making maps makes you get up early. I rolled out of the bed on my feet and scratched my tangled up bedhead. I walked to the calendar to see the date and grinned widely when I saw what I was. 'May 5'. In other words, Luffy's birthday.
I slammed my palm to my forehead. The crew did not know today was Luffy's birthday! I checked off today's date like I normally do and changed into some clothes, clipped on my sword and walked out, hair still all over the place.
I was outside and saw Usopp and Luffy playing, Zoro in the Crow's Nest, Nami looking at her Log Pose, the map and the sea and Sanji in the kitchen. It would be great if we could land on an island today, I know Luffy would love it. Luffy waved at me. "Hey Mace!"
I grinned at him and pretended I was not planning anything. He must have forgotten about his birthday, but I and Ace never do. It's funny that way, Ace never forgets ours or his either (because of the whole hatred thing even if he got better at it). I forget mine and Luffy remembers. We just go with it. Hell, I even remember Gramps birthday.
I walked into the kitchen and was greeted with the sight of Sanji cooking. Even if his lovey dopey self creeps me out, watching him cook is amazing. Anyway, he spun around with an annoyed look in his visible eye. "Luffy, I told you-"
He stopped short when he saw me leaning against the doorway. "M-mace darling! What are you doing here, if you don't mind me asking?"
I grimaced slightly and shifted a little, feeling uncomfortable. I just raised my eyebrows at him and said. "I need a favor. Today is Luffy's birthday. I was thinking you could do something special for him, you know how he is with food."
He looked thoughtful for a a minute and then his face softened. "Sure, that could work. Why isn't he excited?"
I chuckled with a shake of my head. "He forgot."
His eye blinked in surprise. "How does someone forget their own birthday?"
I shrugged with a fond grin. "It's Luffy here we are talking about."
He nodded in understanding and I said. "Just don't tell anyone, I'll tell the crew."
He nodded again with a genuine and I walked out of the kitchen. I looked to see everyone still doing what they were doing before. I walked behind Nami and asked casually. "So, when are we getting to the next island, Nami?"
She jumped, spun around and glared at me. My feet were lightly bouncing so it looked like I was hopping. She raised her eyebrows and asked. "Why are you so excited?"
I grinned widely. "It's Luffy's birthday!"
I saw her smile. "You want him to be able to explore the island."
I nodded in agreement. I turned away to see Zoro next and spun back around at the pain in my head. I winced and snapped. "What the hell was that for!?"
She glared back at me. "For not telling me sooner. We'll be at another island later on in the day."
She said the last part sweetly and I grimaced, her and her fake self. I shook my head with a sigh and went to go to the Crow's Nest to tell Zoro.
Crouching, I jumped up and started climbing the Crow's Nest. I threw my leg over and looked to see Zoro sleeping on his back, his swords next to his sides as I expected them to be, weights scattered around and a little bit of blood on the floor if I was not mistaken or ketchup, but I'll go with the former thought.
Looking around reminded me I needed to train. Well, I have watch tonight, I'll do it then. Anyway, I walked up to Zoro and kicked him hard in the side. Not as bad as Sanji, but his kicks are almost inhuman, not that he can beat me or will even try. Sometimes (most of the time) I hate his chivalrous ass.
Sure kicking him was not nice, but I am not the kind to say 'wake up' nicely and gently shake someone. Come on, I lived with Sabo, Ace and Luffy. I was woken up as a kid by punches to the head, kicking, jumping, screaming and the occational 'Fist of Love' from Gramps when he was around. I shivered at the thought of him.
Back to Zoro, he opened his eyes and glared at me, I just smiled. He blinked. "What's got you so happy?"
I plopped on the ground and sat crisscrossed. "Listen Zoro, today is Luffy's birthday and I'm just letting you know and that we are celebration it later."
He chuckled and his eyes were amused and he gave me a smirk before falling asleep. Rolling my eyes with a grin, I hopped up and jumped off the Crow's Nest, scaring the shit out of Usopp and making Luffy jump. They both turned to look at me.
Usopp was yelling/stuttering at me at how crazy I was and Luffy looked at me with a pout. I chuckled at both of them and Usopp screeched. "Do you think this is funny!?"
I nodded with a smirk. Luffy just pouted more. "You're mean."
I laughed and stuck my tongue out at them. "So?"
Usopp glared at me and walked off, angrily if I might add (not that he could ever scare me). Luffy then shrugged and looked toward the kitchen. Uh-oh! "I'm hungry!"
He darted forward to run past me, but I jumped in his way. He bounced off and fell to the ground. I smirked as I said and pointed at him. "No food for you!"
I had to keep him from the kitchen, stuff for his birthday was in there. He gaped at me in horror and shock. "W-what? Why!?"
I shrugged. "I feel like it."
He stood up and narrowed his eyes. "I'm the Captain."
I noticed the look in his eyes, yes I was challenging him. So, I merely smirked at him and said. "I'm your big brother."
His face then scrunched up and went red. I almost choked on my laughter when I recognized it from him trying to think. When we were younger, he did that when he tried to think. He then went back to normal and put two fists up. "Let's fight for the kitchen!"
I smirked. "Fine by me."
I rushed at him and ducked as he threw a Gum-Gum…Pistol and I grabbed his arm and flung his behind me. I heard a grunt and turned around to see him getting up. I'm surprised no one came out. He then ran at me, a smaller version of Gum-Gum Gatling aimed at me. I yelped as I got a couple in the arms, legs and face. I land on my back a couple of feet away. I stood up, pulling out my sword. I huffed and readied myself. "Little bastard."
His Gum-Gum pistol went to the flat of my blade and my feet slid back a little, but I fixed myself and held firm. Ignored the pain in the areas of my body that he hit. But I did feel something weird, almost like a shockwave. I heard yelling and then Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji came running on the deck. Me and Luffy at this time split up and looked at them confused.
Nami looked at Luffy's fist and my sword and then her eyes hardened into a glare. "What the hell are you doing!?"
Me and Luffy looked at each other with the same blank look and told her. "We were in a fight."
Sanji words annoyed me. "You rubber idiot, how dare you hit a lady!?"
I scowled at that, I can fight for myself, and I believe I proved that. Zoro said. "Don't get mad because your kicks are useless."
Sanji rounded on him and then that started a Zoro/Sanji fight. Then Nami used what I would like to call 'Fist of the Navigator' to stop them. I chuckled in my head at the joke. Usopp asked. "Why are you guys fighting?"
Luffy said with an angry pout. "Mace won't let me go in the kitchen!"
I gave Nami a knowing smile and she understood. "Luffy, listen to her."
Luffy whined. "But Nami-"
She raised a threatening fist and he shut up. They all walked off and Luffy started sulking. A little while after that, I heard Zoro's voice holler. "Land Ho ahead!"
I grinned as Luffy stopped sulking and ran to the lamb head to jump on it. I walked over as he kept on chanting. "Land…Land…Land…Land…"
Soon we were docked and Luffy ran off right away, I laughed. Sanji said he would watch the boat. Zoro and Usopp also wandered off the boat, something about not wanting Zoro to get lost. Nami went to go look for clothes and I went to get him a present. I didn't know what to get him since it usually is meat and Sanji does the cooking. I walked around.
After walking around for a while, I found out that they had a small village and forest. I was looking at the shops, but could not think of what to get a simple minded little brother.
There were trinkets and little things that I had no doubt he would lose and he only thought of a couple of things. Nakama/family, meat, adventure and becoming Pirate King. He already has his Nakama, no way am I finding Ace. We are on an adventure and Pirate King is his dream. Meat, hm. Normal meat is fine, that is what we have been eating, but what if I get some special meat. Like…tiger or bear meat. We haven't had that in like half a year and I know he would love it and it's free, easier on me. I'll just bring it to Sanji and he can cook it for me. Brilliant. Fun for me too, I can fight something.
I turned around and almost bumped into someone. I looked to see it was Nami, a couple of bags in her arms. I raised my eyebrows. "I have a feeling, those aren't for Luffy."
She rolled her eyes at me. "Unless he likes skirts then no."
I snickered at the thought of Luffy in Nami's clothes. I waved her goodbye and walked into the forest. I walked in and breathed in the air, ah almost like home. I walked around, eyeing the area with a hand on the hilt of my sword. I literally could find no animals' eatable, just some squirrels and a raccoon or two. I sighed and was annoyed I didn't think this through.
Animals are attracted to food and…ah, I got it! I pulled my sword out and sliced a shallow cut in my upper right arm from wrist to elbow. I ignored the slight sting it gave me and rubbed the blood all over the arm so it was covered. I then started walking again and heard a roar, show time.
I looked to see a normal sized orange and black stripped tiger coming at me. Moving a bit to the side, I slashed it's chest and with a pained roar, it jumped back. I grinned darkly and it shrunk back, before springing at me, claws extended. I went forward and stabbed it in the chest, killing it. I slid my sword out of it and stared at the size. It should be good enough. I put my sword away, threw the tiger over shoulder ignoring the blood and walked back to the boat.
Sanji looked at me shocked as I came in with a dead tiger slung on my back. I asked. "Can you cook this?'
He nodded, shaking himself out of his shock. "Yes, I can."
I dumped it at his feet and said. "Cool, I'm going to get cleaned up."
Nami gaped and so did Usopp and I saw Zoro napping on the deck. Usopp said with worry. "Mace, your arm!"
I looked and chuckled. "Naw, I did that to draw it out."
Nami asked. "You stabbed yourself, are you stupid?!"
I shrugged and saw Sanji disappear with the tiger. Usopp said he was going to look for Luffy and I went to the water machine thing and did what I had to do with it and drew myself a bath. Stripping, I jumped in and got myself clean. I face palmed once I realized I had no clothes out. I quickly wrapped a towel around me and raced to my room where Nami was not there.
I grabbed pants and a shirt and threw it on. Clipping my sword to my belt, I walked in to see Luffy show up and Sanji yell that dinner was ready. I ran in kitchen to see everyone there. After making sure us ladies got our food ("Damn Mace, you take too much!" Usopp. "Don't you dare insult a lady!" Sanji)
Luffy took an inhale of his meat and he looked at me. "Tiger?"
I nodded, my grin showing teeth. He dug in more than usual and we had to hover over our plates to keep it safe. When dinner was done, Luffy was about to run off, but I grabbed his shoulder. He stopped and I looked at Sanji, he smiled and when he came back, he had a five layored chocolate cake with him. My eyes widened and I almost drooled. On top said, 'Happy Birthday Rubber Idiot'. We all then said to him. "Happy Birthday!"
He gaped. "I didn't even know!"
I laughed, but I was not the only one. Usopp also said. "I didn't know, sorry!"
Nami snorted. "Don't be, if it wasn't for Mace, no one would. She made such a big deal over today."
Luffy stared at me. "Really?"
I felt a bit embarrassed as I looked away and feeling my cheeks get a little hot. Luffy said his grin smaller, but happier than usual. "Thanks guys!"
He then wrapped his arms around me a couple of times and snuggled his face in my neck making me snort. "Thanks Mace."
I pushed him away and I saw him smirk before he attacked the cake. I narrowed my eyes, that little brat! Before Luffy could eat it all, Sanji divided it evenly enough. Throughout the night, the crew wished him happy birthday in their own ways, Nami didn't charge him being annoying, Sanji gave him extra food, Zoro just smirked and stood by and Usopp even let him look at a few of his creations.
All in all, I know Luffy had a good birthday and the only think that could make it better would be Ace. Chuckling, against my mug of grog, I leaned against the wall, passed out and a bit drunk.
