Chapter 13
The Restaurant, the Cook Sanji and Mihawk
I walked out on the deck to see Zoro sleeping and Luffy putting down a box with an excited grin. My eyes widened when I saw the bolded words on the side. 'DANGER'. With raised eyebrows I walked over and saw that it had cannonballs in them and put together the equation: Cannonballs + Luffy = DISASTER.
I asked. "Luffy, what are you doing with those?"
Luffy grinned. "I'm gonna shoot it from a cannon!" He said it in a 'Duh' voice and I ignored that.
I shook my head. "No you're not."
He glared and huffed. "Why not!?"
I snorted and sat down next to the crate. "You'll blow up the whole ship."
He puffed up his cheeks, but before he could say anything Usopp said. "Leave the cannonballs to me; I rid one when I was three."
I rolled my eyes at this, but I suppose he could be good about that since it's all in the aim and he uses a slingshot really well. Luffy asked Zoro if he knew how, but he didn't so while they were trying to figure it out, Nami said. "Farther there is a reef excellent for target practice."
He asked me. "Mace, can you do it?"
I snorted. "Not well."
I knew I would not be able to stop Luffy from this, I walked off calling. "Have fun, don't blow up the ship. I'm going to train!"
Luffy called back. "Ok, see ya later!"
He knows when I train, I train for a while. I was on the deck on the other side of the boat and pulled my sword out. I looked at it with a smile, I loved this thing.
Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi.
I stood into my normal stance or legs spread apart a bit and right a little bit in front of my left. Shifting a tight grip with my right hand around the hilt, I took a deep breath. Then I started my training.
First, I did simple strokes, left, right, under, over and things like that. Then I mixed things in and used speed. Left, right, over, and around. I would do different combinations and would almost be whipping the wind. After being done with this and knowing I could do it with my eyes closed and almost asleep, I stopped.
I was already started to sweat a little, but I expected that. Sheathing my sword, I dropped to the ground and started doing my strength exercises. Sit-ups, push-ups and things like that. I was soon bored and then got an idea. I rubbed my forehead of sweat and went to where Luffy and the others were. I heard the boat shake a couple of times during my training which meant that they used the cannon already.
I guess I predicted wrong, it looks like nothing bad happened after all! I walked in the kitchen where Luffy was eating some bread and they looked at me. Luffy looked at me confused. "You done already, Mace?"
I shook my head and said. "I need more weight and we don't have any of mine here Luffy."
Zoro was lying in a chair snoring while Nami and Usopp looked at me confused. Luffy understood though. "Okay, what you gonna do?"
I got on my hands and feet until I was in the 'push up position' and Usopp asked. "What are you doing?"
I answered. "You'll see."
I heard him huff under his breath. Luffy then climbed on my back crisscrossed and I heard him chomping on the bread he apparently took with him. I gave a small grunt at the extra weight, but started my push-ups. I was relaxing and I didn't have to think, just work out and huff out the numbers. "One, two, three…seven, eight…twelve..."
At this point, Nami exclaimed. "What the hell are you doing!?"
I huffed out. "Working…out."
Luffy explained for me. "Mace has weights at home, but none here, so sometimes when she didn't want to get them, she would use me for extra weight."
Usopp gasped. "That's crazy!"
I was now on twenty-three, I didn't stop while they were talking. I could feel Luffy jumping a little, damn he was getting bored. I did them a little faster and then had to brace myself at thirty-one when there was a sound of stuff breaking. "Get out here, you damn pirates!"
I stood up, Luffy hanging on my back with his arms slung around my neck and legs around my waist like a koala or monkey and then he jumped down with a small frown. Luffy ran out and I looked to see only one guy and went back inside when I saw Luffy had him. I was annoyed, the bastard stopped me in the middle of my training, I was sweating a lot now and annoyed I didn't get to finish.
Zoro then woke up and Nami looked at where Luffy and the stranger were. Usopp looked annoyed and angry, no doubt because the boat was being injured and he seemed to be attached to the thing. I love it, but I don't know about him…hell I was annoyed that some idiot decided to mess with our boat, but Luffy had it and he was the Captain so there.
Zoro said after looking out the window. "It's only one guy; Luffy can take care of it."
I nodded, just as unbothered. "Yeah, he'll be fine."
Zoro went out anyway and I followed him with Nami and Usopp following me. I looked to see some guy with short black hair, a simple saber and tattoo on his cheek and he looked kind of scrawny to me, but then again with my training, most people do. Zoro asked, confused. "Johnny, please tell me that isn't you?"
So, he knows this guy? 'Johnny' said. "Who's saying my name like they know me?"
He was upside down against the wall and I saw that he also had black sunglasses on too. He then jumped up and I saw Luffy a little bit farther from him. I looked around the deck, only a couple of barrels damaged, nothing at all really. He then looked at Zoro shocked. "Zoro-aniki!"
My eyes widened in shock and I looked at Zoro then Johnny and then back at Zoro. "I'm guessing you're not related."
Zoro gave me 'are you kidding me' face and I heard Usopp snort from behind me and Nami sigh. I can't say nothing about having to be related to have family because I had three nonrelated brothers, the bandits (I do consider some of them family), Makino and Gramps (no matter how crazy he is, I do call him Gramps after all).
Zoro asked, quirking an eyebrow. "Where is Yosaku?"
Luffy asked if he knew the guy and Zoro said he did. Johnny asked. "What are you doing on a pirate ship?"
I remembered before that he was a Pirate Hunter and smirked. I spoke up "We captured Roronoa Zoro and we are going to kill him."
Zoro gave me a glare, Luffy blinked at me and Nami snapped. "Don't say stuff like that!"
Johnny's reaction surprised me a bit. He yelled. "No, Zoro-aniki, we won't let them!"
He started running around, getting freaked out and I yelped when Zoro smacked me in the back of the head. He usually doesn't hit me, that usually goes to Nami. I glared as he yelled. "No! Johnny calm down. She's not-watch the railing!"
I snorted loudly as he almost hit the railing. He calmed down once he realized I didn't mean it and Zoro asked again. "Where's Yosaku?"
He then hurriedly ran off somewhere and Zoro followed him. Luffy laughed and followed. Shrugging, I stuffed my hands in my pockets and followed them. This guy was on a stray boat and he looked like shit to put it lightly. He was bleeding in the face and I think he had a wound on his stomach, if the liquid staining his shirt was any indication. Also, his breathing was heavy. What? Did he bite off more than he could chew or something?
Johnny said, sounding depressed. "Up until a couple of days ago, he was full of life and now he keeps fainting and getting really pale. I have no idea what's causing it. His teeth been falling out and his old wound started bleeding. I just thought maybe we could rest on a little island. Then a cannon ball came flying from this ship!"
That must have been from Luffy and Usopp. By the way they were sweating, I could tell that was the truth and they were apologizing and bowing. As for what he said, I don't know what kind of sickness that is though it does sound familiar; I think I read about it in a book I picked up.
Johnny was getting teary as he asked if Yosaku was going to make it. Zoro had a solemn face. I sighed, running a hand through my hair. If Zoro knew this guy and by the look on his face, I hope he does make it.
Nami walked forward. "So dumb."
I snapped my head in her direction in shock. Is she mocking a man's death? That's a new low even for her. She then knelt down and started pulling on the guy's tongue and seemed to be looking for something. Johnny grabbed her arm and I narrowed my eyes, smashing my foot into his face and making him fall back. Zoro snapped. "You idiot!"
A this point, I didn't know who Zoro was talking to, but I didn't care enough to go into it.
Nami stared at me and I shrugged. She's Nakama after all. "He doesn't need to be grabbing people like that and Nami, what are you doing?"
By this time, Johnny came back and I ignored the boot size footprint on his face with a smirk. Nami said. "I was checking for something and I was right, he has Scurvy."
That sounds very familiar, like a disease or something? I must have said that part out loud because Nami nodded. "Scurvy was a big problem for sailors before who didn't have enough vitamin C on ships, if it's not too late, he should be fine in a couple of days."
She then ordered Usopp and Luffy to go get limes for the kitchen and I sat cross-legged from where I was. Luffy and Usopp came back, shoving lemons in Yosaku's mouth and I chuckled and then they were amazed at how Nami knew that. I should have known, it seems like something I should have known. Nami then yelled. "YOU GUYS ARE MORONS, EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SCURVY!"
I back up a little, before she could try to take her anger out on me or something. Then Yosaku got up and then him and Johnny were jumping around and dancing yelling 'Hooray, hooray'! Nami screamed. "You can't heal that quickly!"
I had to agree with her there, the guy didn't look strong to begin with and just looking dead didn't help. He looked weird though; he had some kind of helmet on, checkered boxers and a bathrobe with a cigarette in his hand. He looked like he was getting ready to jump in the shower, not his everyday clothes. They were jumping around like nothing ever happened and I could not help being a little worried and amused at the same time.
They decided to introduce themselves to us.
"Let us introduce ourselves, I'm Johnny-"
"…And I'm Yosaku-"
"…we are the famous pirate hunting duo."
I waved with a grin. I decided to join in on the fun. "Hi, I'm Mace, a pirate swordsman."
They gave me jolly grins and I then winced, rubbing my head from slight pain. I looked over to see Nami glaring at me. "DON'T ENCORAGE THEM!"
I leaned back and said, just to be a bigger pain. "I was just being nice, you should introduce yourself to someone and if you Dine and Dash make sure to be polite and bow and then run off."
She gaped at me and Luffy grinned while Usopp said. "That makes no sense at all."
I nodded. "Yes, it does, at least I'm polite about it."
Usopp snapped. "That don't matter, your still running."
I shrugged and he gave a loud sigh. I smirked, only we brothers would see the logic in that. Ace taught us that after all. I looked back just to see Yosaku fall on the ground and I jumped at the suddenness. Johnny and Zoro helped take him to an empty room where he could get better.
After that, all of us went to the kitchen and they started eating more bread. I sat down next to Luffy and sighed. Nami said. "Let what happened teach you a lesson."
Zoro said. "Yep, see what happens when you choose a life on the sea."
Usopp replied. "This means we need to get the right amount of nutrients with the least amount of food."
Nami said. "It absolutely necessary we have someone on the ship that knows how to do that."
Luffy said. "Right, the ship needs a cook." He jumped up. "Let's go find us cook."
Usopp agreed with him. I said. "That would be smart, Luffy. I don't even think your rubber self could be protected from Scurvy."
He shrugged and Johnny said. "I know where you can find a cook and the food at the place will blow your mind."
I looked at Johnny with a frown. "A restaurant? Is there an island near by?"
Johnny shook his head. "No, it's a floating restaurant."
I blinked back in shock and then grinned. "Really?! Cool!"
I realized me and Luffy said this at the same time. I grinned wider and relaxed as Johnny said. "This place is close to the Grand Line and I heard a lot of rumors lately. That a hawk-eyed man is around."
I stiffened; any swordsman would have to be stupid not to know about a hawk-eyed man. But what worried me was the look on Zoro's face, excitment. That was as clear as day on his face. Does he really think he has a chance against him, he's on par with me and I know I can't defeat Dracule 'Hawkeyes' Mihawk. I shook it off and decided to deal with it later. Johnny said. "Set the course, northeast."
Usopp got up and pulled the rudder toward whatever that direction that was; I was never good with them. I got up and said. "I'm going to wait outside."
They waved me off and I walked out across the deck to the railing near the sheep head and after a minute I gaped in shock. "HOLY SHIT!"
I heard stomping feet and looked to see Luffy and Usopp on either side of me. I heard Luffy say. "Woah…"
Johnny voice said. "Welcome to the Baratie, sea restaurant!"
The thing was shaped like a giant fish floating on water. When we got a little closer, I realized it was actually a boat. But unfortunately we didn't get any closer. I squinted my eyes to see a Marine ship, the blue marine symbol huge on the sail. Speaking of huge, so was the boat. I sighed. "Well, look who decided to ruin our day, yay."
Zoro chuckled lowly and Nami snorted at how dry and sarcastic I made that one sentence sound. Johnny and Usopp looked to be freaking out. I rolled my eyes, hand one hand on the hilt of my sword and the other in my pocket. An overall lazy look if you didn't look into in. Usopp asked. "They're not gonna fire at us, are they Luffy?"
They might, since we've just made our flag we are not known, but it is a pirate flag. Two people walked out on the deck in front of us. A man in a fancy suit with pink hair (Ha, Ha, and Ha) next to a blond that hooked on his arm and I can almost see 'Gold Digger' on her forehead in bolded black letters. The pink haired guy said. "I never seen that pirate flag before. I'm Iron Fist Fullbody, but you can call me sir."
My eyebrow twitched and I muttered. "I wanna kill him now."
Zoro gave a grunt of agreement and yes I can tell the difference. Of course, as Captain, Luffy stepped up. "I'm Luffy."
So Luffy will kick his ass and this will be done with. Imagine my surprise when Usopp said. "I'm Usopp."
My entire body tensed tightly and I felt anger rise in my chest. My relaxed pose was gone. What the hell does he think he is doing? I decided to drop it and wait to see if he would say anything else. Just to make sure, I walked over till I was standing next to Usopp. Zoro, Luffy and Nami's eyes flickered over to me, but that was it. Luffy said. "We made our flag the day before yesterday."
I relaxed and then heard Usopp pipe up. "And I drew it."
I narrowed my eyes angrily as Luffy gave him an annoyed look. I made a fist and let in crash onto of Usopp's head. It was a little harder than usual when I would smack one of them for being stupid, almost like a scolding or punishment blow. Usopp crashed to the ground face first and even though I was a bit angry at his behavior, I hoped he didn't break his long nose. Trust me, breaking your nose isn't fun, I would know.
I locked eyes with Luffy, and then he went back to that other guy and I was lost in my thoughts. Nami didn't yell at me and Zoro knew why I was mad and usually trusted my judgment. It's disrespectful and rude when he does that. I know what he says about Captain and everything, but he needs to respect that Luffy is the Captain. Hell, I know that we ain't like normal pirate crews or he would have been dead already.
The only reason Luffy don't do anything is because we are Nakama, a reason why I usually let it slide too. I care about everyone on this ship, even the money grubbing thief. I'm his big brother and I don't undermine his respect and authority he rarely shows. Usopp looked at me with a glare, but backed down once he saw mine. I sighed.
I looked to see a cannon being fired at us, I snapped. "What the hell!?"
I and Zoro drew our swords, but Luffy grinned. "I got it!"
I looked around the ship to see Nami looking at what looked like a wanted poster around other wanted posters (how did they ever get there?). But, she had the most scared and disturbed look on her face, the most frightened I've seen from her. I hesitated and decided if it's bad enough she'd have to tell us. I heard a crash and the crew yelling at Luffy. I slapped my palm to my face.
He smashed the cannon ball to the roof of the restaurant. Suddenly these cooks came to our boats and asked who did it.
"I did." Of course that was Luffy's blunt and straight to the point answer. They went to drag him away and I and Zoro objected.
Luffy shrugged. "I gonna go see what they want, s'okay Zoro, Mace."
I nodded and they dragged him away. I noticed Yosaku came back and he looked okay, alot better than before. I sat down and decided that was the best thing to. I leaned against the wall, leaned my head back and fell asleep right away.
…. ….. … …. …. … … … …. … ….. … …
What felt like an only a little bit, I was being kicked and prodded in the stomach and I knew it was Nami because of the heel unless the four guys on the boat were hiding something? I opened my eyes and Nami said. "We're going to get something to eat inside, you coming?"
I didn't feel like getting up at that moment so I said. "Naw, you guys go, I will later."
She shrugged and I heard Nami, Usopp and Zoro leave. I closed my eyes, but for some reason could not fall asleep. I sighed and stood up. I looked over to see Yosaku and Johnny picking up the wanted posters off the floor. I was curious so I walked over to them and asked. "Oi, Johnny?"
He looked at me and asked. "What is it, Mace-Aneki?"
I scratched the back of my head. "Do you know what poster Nami was looking at?"
Yosaku nodded and they went searching through the piles they had and the one until they gave me a single poster. I had the WANTED thing in the front showing he was a pirate.
He had blue skin and jagged looking nose with black beady eyes. He actually looked more shark than human. It said his name was Arlong and he was worth 20,000,000 Berries. Large enough to be in the Grand Line from what I heard. From what I seen in the paper, nothing more than 10,000,000 Berries stay's in the Four Blues, especially East Blue. Buggy was an exception to that.
I frowned. "That's weird, hm?"
They both nodded in agreement and I gave the poster back. I asked. "Are you sure you want to stay here?"
They nodded and said it was fine. Shrugging, I stood up and walked over to the railing of the ship and leaned on it was crossed arms. Speaking of the Grand Line, I wonder how Ace is. He must be there, the last of his bounty I saw was a while ago. I miss my older brother and I'm sure he's happy being a pirate and all; he must miss us though like we miss him. Man, it's been three years.
Plus, my older brother is…NO don't think about that at all. I will start feeling guilty. Thinking about it, I am way older than they are and I didn't do anything to stop it, when I had the brain of an almost adult. Shaking my head and scowling to myself, I tried to lose my train of thought. Ace was pissed when he learned how much guilt I put on myself and of course back then his only answer was to punch me (a bit harder than usual, must be where I get it from for punishments).
He told me the next time I did that, he would really hurt me for acting stupid. I guess I put the blame on myself a lot without realizing it. I shook my head again and jumped off the boat and landed on the wooden deck. I walked inside and was almost pushed aside by a frantic marine. I raised my eyebrow and he yelled. "Fullbody, Fullbody!"
The whole restaurant was silent, staring at the marine. Fullbody had an arrogant air around him and the marine said. "The prisoner escaped for the cells!"
Fullbody looked shocked and I step sided them and walked over to the table where the crew was at. Slipping into a chair next to Nami, I turned to watch the show. Fullbody snapped. "How can that be, the whole time we held him we didn't feed him or give him water!"
My eyes widened, he did what? This person must have been a pirate or bandit. I haven't starved long but being on that floating piece of wood hungry, thirsty and sunburned changed my outlook on food even today.
The Marine was saying something else, but then a shot rang out and I put my hand on my hilt was narrowed eyes as someone walked in, pistol in hand. His face was tan, face sunken in, his clothes were ragged and he had a stripped hat on with some kind of red bead earings in each ear. I really don't know how this man could escape a Marine ship.
He sat down at a table and placed his feet on it saying. "This is a restaurant is it not? Where is the food?"
I blinked, well wasn't that abrupt. This huge guy came over with a cook's apron, arms that reminded me of the cartoon days of Popeye, large shaped head and a rope tied around his forehead. He came over and asked sort of polite and kindly. "Hello, shitty crook, do you have any money to pay for the food."
I choked on a laugh. Ain't that a way to great someone in a restaurant. The guy put a gun to the other guy's forehead and asked. "How about a bullet?"
Popeye then smashed his fist on top of his head and said. "No money, no food!"
He crashed and broke the chair. He then started beating him up. I grimaced as he threw him out what looked to be a back door. Well, ain't he a bully? Did he really have to go that far? I looked around and saw Luffy next to an old man with a chef uniform on blond hair, a braided beard, really really big chef hat and one peg leg. I snorted because it made him look like a stereotypical pirate from where I'm from. Then the food arrived and Luffy disappeared somewhere. A cook came to our table and said. "Your friend has to work here for a year."
We all looked at him in shock and I asked. "Do you mean the Strawhat?"
He nodded and I threw my head back and laughed loudly, my body shaking. "Man, good luck with that, you'll fire him in a couple of days. I hope you have non-breakable plates!"
He looked at me shocked and then rushed back in the kitchen.
Nami asked me. "How bad would he be?"
I smirked and said, still chuckling. "That, we would want to leave anything kitchen related to the cook."
Zoro shook his head. "You guys should expect it when it comes to him."
They sighed sadly and I chuckled a little bit more. People were staring and I looked at them annoyed, they looked away quickly. Usopp asked. "Why are you so scary?"
I blinked. "I'm not scary."
Zoro shrugged while Nami rolled her eyes at me, almost in disbelief? I replied, smiling. "Well, it works so whatever."
Nami sighed and Usopp gaped at me, but didn't say anything. We were eating the food since Luffy was gone and my eyes widened. This is the best thing I ever had. I drank the red wine of what must have been a fancy brand and thought it must have been watered down because I drank it quickly.
I'm not a big drinker either. I poured myself another glass full. Zoro was drinking it right from the bottle. I wish I had old fashioned Grog or Ale. This will have to do, I was not tipsy, but did feel a bit warm inside. Anyway, I looked up when I heard Nami call. "Hey, chore boy!"
I stopped eating and drinking enough to laugh at sight of Luffy. He had an apron tied around his waist. He had an annoyed look on his face. "What are you doing!?"
He raced over to us and Usopp said, a grin on his face. "I heard you have to work here for a year."
I laughed again at the look on his face. No way are we staying for a year, we'll figure something out soon enough. Zoro said. "Is it okay if we redraw the flag on the ship?"
I snorted and said. "If Zoro changes it, we will be the No Direction Pirates."
Zoro glared at me. "Shut up!"
I grinned in a way that said 'make me'. He glared at me again and in the corner of my eye I saw Luffy stick a finger in his nose and put a booger in Zoro's water. My eyes widened and I grinned wider at him. Zoro grumbled. "Whatever Mace."
He took his water and I looked to see Nami and Usopp holding in their laughter badly. I was no better. Zoro said. "You know…I have to say the food here is delicious."
Right before he swallowed it, he pushed Luffy to the ground and made him drink it. I really started laughing now, my body shaking as Luffy rolled on the ground in disgust of eating his own booger. Nami was smacking the table from laughing so hard with her hand and suddenly this blond guy shows up with a rose in his hand, kneeling. "Oh, dear ocean, Thank you for this treasure you shared from your depths!"
I gaped at him in shock as went on, happy he was not looking at me. "I can't stand the hardship of loving you and this other lovely lady from afar."
At this point he handed me a rose and went back to talking. "How great it would be to travel the sea, but a great obstacle stands in our way."
I blinked, why am I included in this freak show? I heard someone say. "That obstacle would be me, right Sanji?"
'Sanji' mumbled something under his breath. I looked to see that old blond chef from before. He said. "This is an opportunity you can't pass up. Why don't you join them and become a pirate? I have no need to keep you in my restaurant."
Join us? I looked at Luffy to see him watching them and knew he asked him to become our cook for whatever reason. I looked over the guy. He was wearing some black shoes, a nice suit, blond hair covering one eye and the other eyebrow was curly which make in smirk, ain't that weird. He smelled smoky too, like tobacco.
So he must smoke a lot or be around people that smoke. Sanji stared at the old man in anger and I could not blame him for that. If someone talked to me like that I would have been pissed. "Hey, listen pal. I'm the Sous Chef of this place. What do you mean you don't need me anymore?"
The old man said back as I took a drink of my wine and ate a couple of bits of food, almost like watching a show. "You fight with the costumers all the time. You flirt with any girl under 80 that walks in here. You can't even cook a decent meal, your worth less than chum after brunch, that's what I mean."
Wow, that's a little brutal, oh god I hope he tones it down when he joins up because let's get this straight, Luffy gets what he wants and I could see the look on his face, he was determined to make Sanji his chef for the ship.
I was also looking at his face during the whole thing, when it got to the cooking part, his face darkened, I guess that's where you would hit a chef where it hurt, his food. Sanji was stuttering a little and the old man continued to talk about how the chefs avoided him and told him to leave. The cooks were on the circular stairway, laughing.
Sanji went up to the old man and grabbed his by the collar of his shirt and said. "So you're just going to shot your mouth off and expect me to take it, old man? I could just blow off everything you just said. But I won't let anyone trash my cooking! I'm staying as a Sous Chef and that's final, do you hear me?"
The old man said. "What do you think you're doing, grabbing the chef by the collar?"
He then picked up Sanji and threw him at our table. I quickly grabbed the wine bottles next to me and balanced my glass in my lap as I grabbed my plate of food too. The table broke and I winced, that looked like it hurt. But he got up and brushed himself off. Luffy patted him on the back as the old man walked away. "See, he said it was cool, now you can become a pirate."
Sanji screamed at him and I chuckled under my breath, Luffy will have his way, trust me on that. He then had fruit and I placed my food and bottles back on the table. I poured a glass and wondered if I was becoming an alcoholic or something. I'm getting close to tipsy so I should stop soon.
I tuned out Sanji and when he was in front of my face with a glass full of fruit, I reacted. My sword was out and the point was at his neck, right at his jugular. My eyes were narrowed and I saw him swallow. I frowned and sheathed my sword and he said.
He merely grinned. "It's okay my sweet. So, you're strong and beautiful?"
I cringed and said after he gave me the fruit. "Thanks."
He actually had hearts in his eyes and I gave him a warning look. He seemed to get it and went back to Nami. I told another gulp of wine and decided this would be my last cup of the day. I was a little tipsy and wanted to be aware. Basically Nami charmed him into giving her meal for free and mine as well.
Usopp got mad and told Zoro to beat him up and Zoro made me laugh as he said. "Do it yourself."
While this was going on I took pity on Luffy and gave him a plate with rice and meat. Luffy grinned at me, declared he loved me and ate it along with the drink I gave him. Sanji dragged him away and I finished the last of the wine and put it down, done with it for today. I leaned back with a groan. "Well, wasn't that fun?"
I closed my eyes and heard Zoro laugh. "You were chugging wine like no tomorrow."
I shrugged without opening my eyes. "I needed an alcohol fix."
He gave a grunt of agreement and I feel asleep right there.
… … …. … … … …. ….
I have been literally bored out of my mind. We have been here for about a couple of days. Even if it was amusing to see him work, I was bored. I was training, but even that was getting boring. At least at home we had stuff to do.
We were now on the ship and a nasty fog was there. I sighed and got up, walking to the railing to get a better look. I heard Zoro and Usopp next to me, Johnny and Yosaku hiding somewhere on the ship. Zoro asked. "What do you think that is?"
I shrugged and said. "I don't know-is that a ship? Man, a bad one too. Ooh, maybe it's a ghost ship."
Usopp at this point started shaking. "G-ghost ship?! W-why would you s-say that!?"
I shrugged and said. "Seriously, what should we do about it?"
Zoro said with a sigh. "If it starts trouble then we go inside."
We waiting awhile and I almost wanted trouble to start because I was so bored. Then we heard a couple of gunshots and I jumped up. "Bingo, let's go!"
Zoro rolled his eyes, but nodded with a smirk. "Fine, let's go."
Usopp said. "I'll just stay here then!"
I shrugged and jumped off the ship with Zoro behind me. I replied, grinning. "Fine, you can stay with the creepy ghost ship."
I heard him stumble and then he was following us. I walked in the door and saw the cooks scattered along the restaurant, Sanji, the old man, the guy that got beat up and some man next to him kneeling that looked like a baffon, no kidding. He had purple hair scattered on his head and a monkey like face. It made me grin, but I held in whatever laughs I had. We were on the stairs and Zoro asked. "Hey, Luffy you need any help?"
Luffy looked and I waved. He grinned back and said to that guy. "This is my crew."
I grinned and walked down the steps. He looked the three of us over and said. "That's a pretty small crew you got there."
Luffy said as I sat on the table next to him with my legs crossed. "I got two more."
Oh, that must be Nami and Sanji. Speaking of her, I wonder how she is. I expected her to be worried about stealing the Baratie's money or something. But she decided to stay, was she scared or something or did it have anything to do was the poster I saw and then shoed it off right away. If she couldn't fight some weakling like Kuro and those crappy cat pirates, she wouldn't have a chance with someone with 20 million Berry.
I went back to the conversation when the buffoon guy said. "I'm coming back and killing anyone who is here. Anyone that leaves can be free from that fate. All I'm looking for are the Log Book and this ship. However if you want to be slaughtered, I have no problem burying every last one of you at sea. Know that." He left with the big bag of something at his feet and walked out the door.
I was confused, but whatever he just said. I asked. "Hey Luffy, do you know what's going on?"
He frowned and then said. "Yeah, that guy is Don Krieg-"
I interrupted. "The guy with the baboon face?"
He nodded. "Yeah, so he wants the ship because he sucks at the Grand Line and Old man Zeff's Log book because he was a pirate, shishishi! Did you know that Mace?"
I saw the blond old man was Zeff. Now that makes more sense now, no wonder his ship looked like a ghost one before. It was ruined. I patted him on his hat in thanks and he pushed me slightly and I smiled.
I went back to the conversation to hear Popeye shout. "But Boss, why are you acting as if you're taking Sanji's side? This mess is his fault."
Then all the cooks started blaming Sanji. So they are now blaming the cook, now I am more confused than before. Whatever, I'll just go with it. Zeff then yelled. "You fools don't know what you're talking about! None of you know what it's like to be on the brink of starvation! To have no food or water on the open ocean. There is no way you can understand what a terrible prospect that is. It's the most difficult position a man could ever face."
I grimaced, I haven't starved long, but it was enough. I had a hand on my stomach in reflex. Popeye was confused and Zeff told them that the difference between them and Sanji would be that he knows.
That must mean that he was way worse than I ever was, to be hungry until death is unimaginable to me. Zeff then told the cooks to leave if they were going to be scared like that and they said they would never leave or something like that. The guy that was kicked out earlier yelled out. "Are you crazy? You saw how powerful he is!"
I didn't, nonetheless Sanji was the one that answered him. "Hey Gin. Listen up because I'm only going to say this once. Feeding someone who is hungry is my sacred world duty. But now that your crew is well fed, I have no obligation to them. With a clean conscience, I can beat every last one of them to a bloody pulp. If anyone tries to take the restaurant, I'll kill them without a moment's hesitation. Got that?"
Wow, that was a long speech; these people love to hear themselves talk. Well, it was not annoying so I guess that's a bonus. Luffy started asking the guy named Gin stuff about the Grand Line and I got up from the table, grinned when I saw a discarded bottle of wine and walked over. It was unopened too! I'm not a big wine person, but it's is the only alcohol I can find and maybe it's the pirate in me that craves alcohol, I'm saying I'm going to turn into a drunk or something like that, I just like it.
I peeled off the tap on the top and popped it open. I looked around to see Usopp and Zoro standing where they were before and no one was paying attention to me, must be the situation or something.
I tuned into Gin and my brother's conversation as I took a swig from the bottle.
"…50 ships destroyed by a single man." I choked and was happy I swallowed already. He talked about how the 'man' destroyed every single ship and because of a storm they got away. But his last words shocked me. "…His eyes were like a hawk, sharp and murderous. It was like looking into the cold hands of death."
I furrowed my eyebrows and looked over at Zoro. He face had a certain gleam of excitement and shock in his eyes. I and he both knew who attacked those ships. I muttered at the same time as Zeff says who it was. "Hawk eyes."
Taking another swig, I sighed. Why would Zoro want to fight him? I know he wanted to be the Greatest Swordsman, but now? He needs way more training, as do I. Zeff said. "The way you described his heartless gaze is not proof, but you described the way he destroyed your fleet is."
I heard Zoro say. "Hawk Eyes Mihawk."
I stiffened, but hoped he didn't come here. I didn't want Zoro to fight him, at least not yet. But I knew if we did run into him, I could not stop it for two reasons. One, it is his dream and I would never stop someone from that and two, you should never stop a swordsman fight. I believe it is one of the Bushido rules as it causes shame and weakness. Damn, I sound like a book. I looked back to see Usopp yelling at Luffy. "Hey, do we have to go there?"
From who they were talking about it must be the Grand Line. Luffy actually started shaking in excitement saying now we had to go there. Zoro said. "Finally my life goal is about to be achieved, my rival is out there in the Grand Line and I'm about to find them."
Sanji then called him stupid and Zoro said no one could call him stupid, but him. I chuckled as Luffy and Usopp asked if they could. I put down the half empty bottle and stood with a sigh. Either my alcohol resistant went up or it's weak wine. I almost stumbled when the boat started shaking. I put my hand on the hilt of my sword and narrowed my eyes. "What the Hell is going on!?"
Zeff shouted. "Grab the anchor before the ship sinks!"
The chefs he yelled at went to go do it and I walked over to Zoro and Usopp. Luffy was right next to me. Zoro said. "Nami is still out there with the guys on the ship."
My eyes widened in shock. "We have to save them then!"
All four of us ran out and saw that their ship (The ghost looking one) was split in half and sinking. Can I say it again, What the Hell? We then heard shouting and I looked to see Yosaku and Johnny in the water. We ran over to them and I grabbed them by the collars of their shirts and yanked them on the deck. They coughed and started breathing heavy. "T-thanks Mace-Aneki!"
I nodded and ignored the whole Aneki thing. Zoro then asked the million Berry question. "Where is Nami and the ship?"
They both said something that shocked me. "Sorry Zoro-Aniki, she took the boat and drove away!"
My eyes bulged out as we all yelled. "SHE DID WHAT!?"
I was conflicted on what to feel as I saw Zoro punch a wall after they explained that she pushed them off the boat. On one hand, I warmed up to the thieving witch and on the other hand, she turned into a traitor and stole our boat. She's Nakama, Luffy said so. So we can't give up, right? It all comes down to what my little brother says and I know he can be weird and unpredictable at some points; he always does right in the end. While we were all thinking about this, Luffy called out. "Wait, I can see it! The Going Merry!"
I looked and squinted my eyes, I could see the bare outline of it too! Luffy said. "Zoro, Usopp don't just stand there, go get the ship and Nami."
He didn't ask me to get the ship because I usually decided where I belong best in a situation. Zoro said. "Calm down, we can get a better ship, that women is more trouble than she's worth."
Luffy said in all seriousness. "Nami is the only one that I will except as our navigator."
I gave a nod of agreement and Zoro looked at both of us and we stared seriously back. He knows that I and Luffy stand by each other's decisions. Zoro finally cracked and said with a sigh. "Fine I'll do it, you one high maintenance captain, you know that?"
Yosaku and Johnny got the ship ready. Luffy asked me. "So, what you gonna do, Mace?"
I frowned and shrugged, stuffing my hands into my pockets. "I dunno, I suppose your gonna stay for the restaurant just in case of Don Krieg."
He nodded. "Yeah."
I nodded. "I depends I guess."
Zoro looked over at someone and said. "It's him."
My head snapped more closely in that direction. It was a coffin like boat and what looked like an oversized cross. I saw a man surrounded by a bunch of candles and grimaced; it looks like a funeral or something. The man in the boat didn't look any less forbidding. He had on a cloak and some white pants, boots and what looked like a hat with a plume on it, a real three musketeer's hat and glowing yellow eyes that could only belong to one man. Luffy asked. "Who's that guy?"
I was about to say it, but Zoro beat me to it. "Hawk eyes Mihawk."
Luffy blinked and I sighed, knowing what was coming. I said. "Dracule 'Hawk Eyes' Mihawk. Currently the Greatest Swordsman in the World."
It was loud enough for most to hear and a silence drew out here and I knew what was going to happen, what Zoro planned to do.
And I could do nothing to stop it.
Finally, I finished the chapter on 5/30/14 but can't change it until my internet comes back on which will be Monday or Tuesday if I'm lucky. It's longer than usual; I just didn't know where to stop at and knew this was the best place. How do you like drinking Mace? Don't worry, I'm not turning her into a alcoholic, but Shanks and the bandits were not the best influence even if she was mentally grown up already.
