Jack watched as Liz stormed into the bathroom and he knew he'd be made to pay for what he had just done. More than anything Liz craved power and he had just usurped her control. But he was damned if he was going to play her sick mind games or indulge in her sex fantasies.

He was determined to get out of here, then he would then devote the remainder of his life trying to atone for all he had inflicted on Kim and Angela. He had no intention of playing the role of guardian angel, rather, he would be their avenging angel.

Red finished harnessing the dogs to the sled as he wondered what to do about Chase. Although seriously weakened through weeks of starvation and abuse, Chase knew Liz well, plus he had already proven how resilient he was. Making up his mind, Red returned inside the tent and shook Chase awake to tell him of Blake and Charlie.

"I'll come with you," Chase said immediately, struggling to get out of his sleeping bag.

"Thanks," smiled a relieved Red. But watching Chase as he tried to dress with his bandaged eyes and bandaged hands, he wondered who was the greater fool. The two kids who had gone after Liz, or himself, for following.

Captain Scott looked at the terrain below then came to his decision. They would descend the bluff and move around the edge of the lake shore to the far clearing, from there they would play it be ear.

Looking up at the sky again, he shook his head in frustration. The snow had stopped falling but it appeared more was likely. The cloud cover was very low and he knew there would be no helicopter support today.

...

Charlie and Blake lay in the snow, watching and waiting. They had been doing this for the past week while searching for the wolves, but today their prey was human. They had noticed snow-mobile tracks in this area when they first arrived, but had taken notice. Now though, they hoped the tracks meant Liz was here.

They had been overjoyed last night when listening to Chase recount his story. Here was a subject far more compelling, and far more lucrative, than mere wolves. Everyone loved tales of human predators and this was Fatal Attraction and Silence of the Lambs wrapped ino one exciting package.

Charlie had secretly recorded Chase's account last night and watching playback this morning it still gave them goosebumps. The gritty greys of the low light and the calm flat tones of Chase's delivery greatly enhanced the spookiness of the tale. Tying this in with the story of the Donner Party would make for a stunning doco.

Stealing away silently from the camp this morning had been an excellent adventure, their snow shoes making the crossing of the lake quick and easy. The dog sled would have enabled them to bring the large camera, but the dogs' excitement would have alerted Red of their departure. Perhaps the mini-cam's more grainy qualities would even help the story, rather like in that movie Blair Witch Hunt.

Blake tapped Charlie on the shoulder to let him know he was finished filming. "Let's go a bit closer," he whispered. He liked the play of early morning light over the bare tree trunks and some close-ups would be to die for.

Chloe picked up the last item and placed it in her bag. Tony hadn't responded to her email sent late last night and he hadn't answered his phone this morning.

Well, no matter, Chloe didn't have time to sit around and wait for him, she would continue on regardless. She could have it out with him about his inappropriate behaviour later.

Leaving her car, Chloe ensured it was locked then made her way up the path to the freshly painted house. Checking her watch, she smiled with pleasure. 9am, right on time for her appointment with Rosita.

Her shower completed, Liz smiled in satisfaction as she rubbed the cream over her still damp body. Tonight Jack could do this for her; she liked the feel of his hands as they played over her body and she also liked it when he got rough. What she didn't like was him taking control. Tonight however, Jack would be careful to see she reached climax before he took his own pleasure. She would ensure that.

Pulling on her clothes she debated whether to breakfast first, or play, but her silent musings were interrupted by the double beep of the perimeter alarm. Running into the main room, she laughed happily at Jack as he lay curled on the bed. Pulling on her snow boots, she called out, "Visitors! I wonder if they're your friends or mine? Well, never mind, I'll go invite them in to join the party."

Slinging her rifle over her shoulder, she collected up her hand gun and the tranquilliser gun. She had no idea what was out there, it could be those damn wolves back again which she had shot at several weeks ago, or it might be the Govt forces here for Jack, or someone else entirely.

Whoever it was, she was prepared, and with a slam of the door behind her she was gone.
