~ So Terra had never regarded Aqua a potential girlfriend? Did he get friendzoned by her or something? ~
53) Poll
Today, it was Terra's mailbox that could use some cleaning. The old Terra apparently never deleted any of his emails; he even had some emails in his inbox from when he was in high school! Terra's guess was that that was when he had made this email address. He could only wonder how the old him (that was how he referred to his life before the amnesia) even functioned in life. He probably leaned on the women in his life; Aqua and Kairi.
Terra took his sweet time doing the cleaning, since by reading his old junk, he got to know more about himself. The more he found out about his past, however, the more he started to loathe himself. Was it possible to have a war with yourself? Because that was exactly what was happening here.
He was about to delete another batch of old emails, when he spotted one with the subject 'Aqua's Lovers Poll.' Curiosity got the better of him, so Terra clicked on it to see what it was all about. As the title had suggested, the email involved a poll about who suited Aqua the most as a lover. There were five options: Zack, Sora, Riku, Leon or Vanitas…
"Zack, as in my cousin Zack?" he muttered, surprised.
He frowned, as his eyes went over the list once more. Just who the hell was this Riku and why was Terra's own name not on the list? More importantly, why did Vanitas seem to have gotten most of the votes?
Terra's eyes fell on the date and he realized that he had sent this email to all of his, Aqua's and Kairi's mutual friends, two days before he had gotten that accident. Everyone had voted, even Ven, who had chosen Leon, except for Aqua herself. He could imagine that she'd said something along the lines of, "Very funny, Terra."
So Terra had never regarded Aqua a potential girlfriend? Did he get friendzoned by her or something? Was he right in his mind? And what was this all about, some sort of sick joke?
He started looking for Aqua's reply to the poll, but he couldn't find anything.
What the actual hell?
Why did he start to feel annoyed at something that had happened so long ago? It had probably just been him teasing her, seeing as she'd been the only single person in their group. He should learn how to let things go; it wasn't like he could let this unhappen anyway.
The cursor of his mouse was lingering on the DELETE button, but he moved it away and he decided to put the email in his 'Random Important Stuff' map.
Suddenly, he heard how someone behind hihm let out a startled yelp. Terra turned around in one swift move, just in time to see Kairi...wearing a wedding dress? She was obviously panicking at the sight of him, while trying not to fall over when she hurried out of the room again. The redhead closed the door behind her with a loud BANG!
Okay, now I've officially seen everything, he thought.
"Kairi, what's the matter? Is everything okay?" he asked, more out of curiosity than politeness.
"No, nothing is okay. You've seen me in my wedding dress. That means ill luck for the rest of our lives!"
She seemed very upset. Terra guessed that she hadn't expected him to be home at this time, otherwise she wouldn't have entered the living-room dressed like that. He sighed, running a hand through his wild spikes; just when he had nearly forgotten about the wedding, something like this had to happen of course. It was as though the universe had decided to keep reminding him of what he had screwed up.
"It's okay, Kairi. I guess if one of us doesn't believe in that sort of stuff, it doesn't work, right?" he said, while silently approaching the closed door.
When he leaned in to hear what was happening on the other side, he could hear some soft, muffled sniffing. Was she crying? His heart sank at that sound.
It was quiet for a long time, but then… "Y-you think so?"
Terra nodded, but realized that she couldn't see him. "Yeah."
But truth be told, he didn't care much for the consequences at the moment (and he hated himself for that); there were other things that called his attention right now. He needed to speak with Aqua, at once. Besides, it was probably better if he left Kairi alone for now. After all, he had caused her distress, so he couldn't possibly help her with this.
"I'm going out now. Would you mind if I left you by yourself for a couple hours?" he asked.
"I-I'll be fine. Don't worry," Kairi replied.
That was all he needed to hear. He made a mental note to make it up to Kairi later. He could take her to that new restaurant near the Moogle ice-cream shop.
A/N: I hope I didn't make Kairi too girly, but she seems like a romantic to me, especially when it comes to weddings.
Next chapter: "Aqua still thinks I shouldn't tell you, but I think you have all the right to know this."
