A/N: First of all, my apologies for not updating this any sooner. I never thought I would say this, but I have lost interest in writing. I'm not sure if it's a semi writersblock or if it's because I haven't had any stressful deadlines to make me want to avoid real life responsibilities. :P I am thinking of starting a blog, but I'm not sure if anyone is interested enough to read more personal stuff. :P Either way, I will try to finish this story at least. I will most likely not come up with a sequel for it.

Thanks: ZalelTribal, Lord Razer, and BelowtheFire. :)

65) Rain

Terra was frowning, his gaze never leaving the sidewalk he was walking on. It was raining cats and dogs, but that was the main reason he'd decided to take a long walk to empty his head. After all, the streets were nearly deserted at this time of the day, so he never had to worry about being bothered by someone he knew but wished he didn't. His dark hair was plastered on his face (his umbrella had given up on him last week and he'd forgotten to buy a new one).

He had all the peace and serenity to think about Zack's harsh words. Seriously, what was that guy thinking! He liked his cousin, he really did, but ever since his accident it felt as though Zack was going out of his way to piss him off. And he was succeeding at that.

Suddenly, Terra noticed that he couldn't feel the cold drops of rain on his body anymore. He looked up in slight surprise, spotting the blue umbrella that was held above his head...by Aqua. When had she even caught up with him, he wondered. He hadn't even heard her approach him. But then again, he had been too preoccupied with his own dark thoughts.

"Hey there, are you okay?" Aqua asked, her questioning cerulean eyes meeting his cobalt-blue ones.

When Terra turned towards her to nod, his head nearly bumped against the umbrella's edge. Not that he was paying any attention to that; his breath caught in his throat. Surrounded by the blue haze of the umbrella, Aqua looked absolutely stunning. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen her from this close...no pun intended.

Aqua let out a giggle. "Since you're taller than me, it might be a good idea if you hold the umbrella, or else I might poke your eyes out."

Terra silently did as she suggested, reaching for the umbrella. Without any warning, she put her arm through his. To any outsider they might have looked like an ordinary couple enjoying a walk in the rain, Terra mused. That thought made his heart beat faster.

Strangely enough, this felt so familiar, so natural, even though he could have sworn that he'd never done this before. At least, not that he could remember… Unfortunately.

After a moment of silence, Aqua finally dared to ask, "So why are you so down? Did something happen?"

Terra bit his tongue, wondering if she could read his mind or if he was just an open book. Eventually, he sighed and decided to tell the bluenette the truth.

"I don't know if I can go on like this anymore…with Kairi, I mean." When he caught the shocked look on her face, he hastened to add, "She's nice and all, sure… but I don't feel anything for her anymore and it would be unfair to her if I went on like this, especially now that it isn't certain if I'll ever regain my memories or not. I mean, I waited, hoping that maybe those feelings I had before would return, but it still hasn't happened. So what's the point of dragging this on and on? It will only hurt more in the end."

Terra had worded his thoughts even better than the way they were ordened in his head. However, he didn't quite like the way Aqua's light frown deepened.

"I disagree with you on that. You shouldn't give up on something so beautiful just like that. I know it's hard, but when you regain your memories again, you'll see that all the patience was more than worth it."

The dark-haired man was silent for a moment, not sure how to react. Then he spoke again, "Can I ask you something? Why are you always saying stuff like this?"

It came out way harsher than he'd meant and he could tell that his friend had caught the sharp edge in his voice.

The bluenette tilted her head to the side. "What do you mean?"

"Why are you so scared of me wanting to break up with her? It feels like you're desperately trying to keep us together and I wonder why," he explained.

Aqua managed a sad smile. "Because I've seen how happy she made you feel."

Terra let out a rather uncharacteristic snort. "Well, if I didn't know any better, I'd think that the only reason you want this so desperately is because you want to get rid of me, so you and Vanitas can spend the rest of your lives together."

Suddenly, Aqua stopped walking, but because she was still holding onto his arm, he felt a slight tug on his arm.

"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked, her blue eyes wide.

"It means 'What the hell is your problem?'"

"What is my problem? I think you mean 'what's your problem?' Because I don't even get you anymore!"

By now it had stopped raining as well, but the streets were still deserted. Despite that, the two bickering friends produced enough sound to fill the whole street.

"Are we even friends anymore? 'Cause I sure as hell am not feeling it. Whenever I need you, all your attention is turned towards Vanitas!" he helped reminding her.

"So that's bothering you now? How was I supposed to know that you're so jealous!"

"Jealous? Try neglected!" he roared.

"Too bad you have amnesia, otherwise you'd finally know how I felt when all you ever did was spending time with Kairi when I needed you the most!" Aqua yelled, before stomping off.
