A/N: I don't normally do this, but this is for a friend of a friend, who started doing art commissions a while ago. Since they don't have many followers nobody requests something. They set up a Go Fund Me page, but they're too nervous to advertise it anywhere because they're scared of being accused and attacked because of this. It would mean a lot to them if you checked out their page, it's called 'Gela needs food'.
Also, this story is now over 80,000 words long now! We reached a new milestone. :D Now on to the 100,000.
I enjoyed writing this chapter, I really did. XD It reminds me of the time where I just started writing this story. And for some reason I feel like those stories of mine that take place in Destiny Islands are more...vivid? Anyway, enjoy! :P

73) Holiday
It was funny how things worked sometimes, for it was the holiday picture, that one lost memory of Destiny Islands, that made his remaining memories cascade back into their rightful place. Well, to be more precise, it was Aqua's locket that he only noticed when he looked at the picture more closely. The very same locket that Terra had given to her (he remembered it now), along with a promise he had unintentionally broken.
"By giving you this locket… I promise I'll never forget about you and all those great memories of us together," he had said, and the irony was certainly not lost on him.
Soon enough, it felt as if he was finally seeing the light again. It was insane; no matter where he looked, Terra would always spot little things that reminded him of Aqua and his life. These long forgotten fragments of his life were like small pieces of a puzzle. One that he only was starting to understand now, because so far it had been as though he was trying to fit pieces together without looking at the picture on top of the puzzle box. Now he could only wonder why he had never noticed certain things before. Quite frankly, it left him lightheaded.
The memories would come back to him at the most random times too, he had no control over that...
The sun was slowly starting to set, which meant that Aqua and Terra had the play island of Destiny Islands all to themselves now. The two had decided to linger for a bit longer, since they had just found a crooked palm tree to sit on. It was the perfect spot to watch the sunset and since they would be going home tomorrow, they only had today to enjoy their newfound spot.
Aqua was wearing a light-blue sarong over her black bikini, and it made her look like a sunkissed angel.
Did that even make any sense?
Aqua let out a content, her gaze never leaving the sky that was now colored in all shades of orange and pink. "No matter how many sunsets I see here, they're different every time. All of them are beautiful."
Terra hummed. This made the bluenette look up at him.
"What's with the cheeky grin, Terra?"
The brunet young man didn't reply. Instead he showed her the bright yellow, star-shaped fruit that he was holding in his hand.
Aqua blinked, surprised. "Is that...a Paopu Fruit?"
"Yeah. Did you know that there's a whole legend around this silly fruit? They say that if two souls share the Paopu, their destiny will be entwined. Or something like that."
Aqua raised a brow at that. "And you actually believe that?"
She made it sound as if he was being naive. He shrugged, studying the fruit now. "Haven't found any proof yet except for a few old locals who claim to still be dating because they shared a Paopu fruit... But I'm open-minded."
Aqua rolled her eyes, a small smile touching her lips. "Figures. Is that why you've still kept your wizard hat and magic wand under your bed? Because you're open-minded?"
Terra shoved her away in mock-anger, making her nearly fall off the tree.
"Terra!" She yelped in annoyance, while trying to keep her balance. "Wait a minute... How did you even know about all of this?"
"Hey! You act like I never read anything!" Terra huffed, quasi-offended.
"I'm sorry, Terra. I didn't mean anything by it."
"I know, just teasing. But to answer your question, that Wakka guy from earlier today told me."
She let out a laugh at that. "Well, it must be a pretty special fruit if the natives actually dedicated a holiday to it."
"They did?" he asked curiously.
"Yes, it's today too actually."
Well what were the odds, he thought, his brows furrowing. "Hmm, Paopu Day. Catchy name..." He pondered over something for a moment, casually juggling with the fruit. Then he asked, "Hey, since you don't believe in magic anyway, wanna test if the legend is true?"
Aqua thought about it for a moment, but then she nodded. "Sure, why not?"
"Well that was easy. And here I thought you would protest because you didn't want to take any risks in being stuck with me for the rest of your life in case it's all true."
"Oh believe me. I'm pretty much used to your antics by now. After more than ten years, I don't think I will ever be unprepared."
She didn't need to add that even if they stayed together it would be because Terra was a little stalker sometimes. It would be hard to hide from him. He probably knew that too, what with the way he would sneak into her apartment.
With that, Terra cut the Paopu fruit in two pieces with the pocket knife he carried around with him. As he handed one over to his childhood friend he said, "Well, enjoy your last moments as a free soul. After this it's game over for the both of us."
Terra skilfully dodged Aqua's foot by ducking, before taking his first bite. The outside of the star-shaped fruit had gotten warm in the sun, but its juice was cool enough to quench his thirst. He had never had something like this before. It tasted like a mango and a peach at the same time, all mixed with something familiar that he couldn't name. But it was good and that was what mattered. To be honest, he hadn't expected Aqua to take his offer just like that. Then again, they were already joined at the hip. The only way they would get even closer than before was if they got married.
Strangely enough, he had never thought about that before. Well, not since he had grown up, because he had had a bit of a crush on his friend when he went through the most awkward stage in his life: puberty. And before that, he had thought for some reason that he would later marry Aqua anyway.
After a few bites Aqua noted thoughtfully, "I don't feel any different. How do we know if it's working or not?"
"I guess there's only one way to find out..." When the bluenette looked at him with a questioning gaze, he continued, "We should see if we're enough attracted to each other to actually want to kiss."
"Is that so?" Aqua asked with a raised eyebrow, before she added playfully, "I'm good, but I'd like to see you try."
Before she could say anything else, Terra pulled her close to him and leaned in very closely, his face barely an inch away from hers. A startled gasp escaped her lips.
Aqua's back was pressed against the tree in an uncomfortable way, as she was trying to keep the distance between them in case the heat and the fruit had made him delirious. "T-Terra, what are you doing?" she asked, caught off-guard completely.
"I'm trying to see if the legend's working. What else?" he replied.
"W-wha...?"
There was something strangely satisfying about seeing the always so calm Aqua turn into an utterly baffled mess. His breath caught in his throat at their proximity (he could practically count Aqua's eyelashes if he wanted to), but he tried to play cool. "Happy Paopu Day."
Aqua would soon realize that she had not gotten used to his antics after all.
At this point, Terra honestly had no idea where the memories stopped and when the (day)dreams started. More importantly, what was he supposed to do with his feelings now? Ignore them completely or act out on them?
Because it was not hard for him to realize that pretty much all of his important memories featured Aqua. Sometimes it even felt as though she used to like him as more than friends too, but maybe he was just hoping that that was the case.
More problematic was the fact that even though he remembered his times with Kairi, he wasn't half as infatuated with her as with Aqua. Sure, she was beautiful and he could see why he had fallen for her, but all he felt for her now was something close to a celebrity crush; there were feelings, but they could disappear as suddenly as they came. It wasn't as intense as his feelings for Aqua, but it certainly was there.
What if he ended up falling for them both? Who was he supposed to go after then?
A/N: Next chapter: Of all the awkward things that had happened to her, this one was undoubtedly in her top three.
