Aqua wasn't watching where she was going, much lest listening to her surroundings. As a result, she never saw nor heard the truck when she absent-mindedly wanted to cross over the street. Suddenly, before the truck could hit her, something else grabbed her arm painfully and yanked her away with such force that she smacked right into a wall, leaving her gasping for air. Upon closer inspection, the wall was Leon.
"Aqua, what were you thinking! Since when do you have a death wish?"
Aqua blinked, still not fully recovered. She then realized that if Leon hadn't pulled her away, if he had acted even one second later, she wouldn't have been here.
"W-what are you doing here?"
"I live in this street." When the dark-haired man saw how shaken she was, his eyes softened. "Aqua, are you okay?"
The bluenette felt so small under his worried gaze. She gulped, trying not to sound shaky as she replied with, "Y-yes. I just have a lot on her mind. I wasn't paying attention... Thank you for saving me from...you know."
Having a lot on her mind was quite an understatement. After her kiss with Terra, she had been desperately trying to avoid Vanitas, until he'd practically demanded a date with her. She couldn't even blame him for acting so bossy. Zeus knew how suspicious the dark-haired man was by now...
Before she could brace herself for it, Aqua burst in tears. She took in a few deep breaths, but she couldn't stop it anymore. Random passersby were probably looking at her too. Her vision was blurry, but she could only imagine how shocked Leon must have looked. Aqua felt so embarrassed that she almost started to wish the truck had hit her, so that she wouldn't have to sit through this kind of humiliation.
Apparently, Leon had noticed the looks they were receiving as well, because he proposed to go to his appartment until she felt better. Aqua could only nod as a reply. Any place was better than here, in the middle of the street. She started wiping her tears, while Leon gently grabbed her other arm to guide her. Not that it made a difference; she was still crying.
Leon's house was…warm, and chic. Why was she even surprised? She knew Leon and she knew he had a good taste, and this apartment screamed Leon up to the tiniest of details; white walls, a leather couch, dark-wooden furniture, a huge pianoforte in the corner of the room, the newest technology to make his life more comfortable... The guy was probably filthy rich.
The only thing that was glaringly obvious was the lack of a woman's touch in the room. But then, she'd already guessed that he was single.
When Leon handed Aqua a cool glass of water, she thanked him and apologized again for her behavior. He waved it away like it was nothing. Aqua noticed that he really did not seem to mind her company and that made her feel slightly better..
Still, of all the awkward things that had happened to her, this one was undoubtedly in her top three, if not topping the charts.
"What are you currently playing?" the bluenette asked when she spotted the sheetmusic on the pianoforte.
"Oh...it's an arrangement of one of Borodin's pieces. I'm actually not allowed to talk about it yet, but it's for a project." He replied.
"I see..."
It was silent between them for a moment. Surprisingly enough, Leon was the first to break it, and it wasn't about something she'd expected to hear.
"Look, I know how you feel about this whole Terra situation, and I get that it must be hard for you, but... Don't you think that it's time to look for some closure and try to move on with your life? Don't take it the wrong way, but I know from experience how much damage it does to yourself if you keep hanging onto the past."
Aqua sighed. If only she could, but things weren't that easy anymore...
A/N: Next chapter: Was it possible to be in love with more than one person at the same time?
