A/N: I'm sorry if every chapter seems so rushed; I'm trying to finish this story asap, since it's not really fair for you all to wait half a year for a chapter either. Also, I am trying to make this story at least 100,000 words long. So far, so good I guess. :D
Thanks: ZalelTribal, and krupa360. :)
~ Was it possible to be in love with more than one person at the same time? ~
75) White
Aqua stared at the neatly wrapped gift in her lap. The wrapping paper was simple; bright red with only one butterfly on it as a decoration.
"It's nothing big or anything, but I saw this and it reminded me of you, so... I bought it," Vanitas said with a shrug, explaining the reasoning behind this thoughtful gesture. "Don't get used to it though."
"Thank you," Aqua replied with a small smile, while unwrapping her present.
It turned out to be a witte pashmina shawl. The fabric felt so soft to the touch that she knew she would love wearing it. It was the color that bothered her. White, the color of pure innocence and truth... None of those terms fit her at all anymore. Not after what she had done. She always felt so guilty when she was alone with Vanitas.
Damn that Terra. This was all his fault...
When Aqua still hadn't uttered a single word, the dark-haired man cleared his throat and asked awkwardly, "You… don't like it?"
Her head snapped up so quickly to look at her boyfriend that Vanitas frowned at her reaction.
"No, no, that's not it!" Aqua reassured him.
"Then what?" he demanded.
"Nothing. It's just…" She bit her lip, not sure how to continue from there. Well that, and Vanitas' smoldering eyes that never left her form also didn't help much given the situation. "Terra and I… we uhm…"
His eyes narrowed at the mention of Terra's name, but he didn't rush her. It was moments like these that she didn't know whether she was scared of him or really attracted to him. Aqua sighed. This was much harder than she had thought. Vanitas would be furious. How was she supposed to face him after this?
She took a deep breath and blurted out before she would change her mind, "He kissed me."
The silence that followed after that confession was deafening and absolutely unbearable; Aqua could hear her heart beating, and she was holding her breath. The bluenette was biting her tongue so hard that after a moment she tasted blood.
"When did this happen?" he asked softly, his amber-colored eyes not leaving her face.
Aqua blushed. Someone who didn't know Vanitas that well would probably think that this was a good sign, since he had remained calm. Aqua, however, knew that this was his dangerous, unpredictable side. The side that scared her, even though she hated to admit that to herself.
"A-a few days ago."
Those four words were powerful enough to make him explode.
"AND YOU'RE ONLY TELLING ME NOW?"
"I'm sor-" she started, but he yelled right through her.
"For what, really? That it didn't last long enough? Dammit Aqua! Is this why you've been avoiding me all week?"
She didn't reply, but that look in her eyes said enough.
"Unbelievable!"
Just like that, Vanitas got up and left the apartment. He slammed the door shut behind him with such force that the clock on the wall fell off and knocked over a glass figurine.
Aqua let out a rather shaky breath.
That didn't go well.
To be honest, Aqua didn't know what to do with her feelings anymore, either. She felt...dirty and disgusted with herself. She really cared for Vanitas and cheating was the worst thing one could do. In fact, it was the only thing Aqua wouldn't forgive anyone for doing. On the other hand, every time she thought of that kiss, she felt weak in the knees. Was it possible to be in love with more than one person at the same time?
A/N: And with that, I have finally finished 75% of this story! (It took me 5.5 years.) And I still feel like not enough has happened. But I can promise you this: there will still be a couple plottwists and new important characters to spice things up. With the way things are going now, this story makes me feel so depressed. :P I'm more of a 'light fluff' kind of person.
Next chapter: She had found her place in his heart, claiming it to be hers before he'd had any chance to notice what was happening.
