Terra's phone started buzzing in his pocket, right at the moment that he had wanted to ask Aqua about the soft-pink, mysterious button that she had clutched in her hand like her life had depended on it (maybe she had made some enemies along the way, who knew).
He unlocked his phone by answering the call. "This is Terra speaking?"
Aqua had been watching her childhood friend intently during the short conversation, noticing how his face looked considerably darker after he'd hung up the phone.
"What's the matter, Terra?"
Terra took a deep breath, as if he was weighing down his words carefully, before he spoke up. "Apparently, Kairi has been arrested by the police for an attempt at murder when she pushed you on the beach. She has to appear in front of a forum, which I'm guessing is a fancy word for a court. There was an eye-witness that day that helped the case, and you'll never guess who."
"Wait, they actually know who the witness was and they told you?" Aqua asked, mildly surprised.
Usually, they wouldn't share this kind of information with strangers. But maybe Terra had told the police that he was no stranger to Aqua. Why else would they call him with this piece of info?
"Yeah, it was your teacher, friend, colleague or whatever he is nowadays; Leon…"
Terra had been right; Aqua wouldn't have guessed that at all. But now that he mentioned it, she could vaguely remember that she was supposed to meet up with Leon that day. Such a coincidence this was…
"I can't believe Kairi would do such a thing to me! She'd always been so nice… But it could have been possible. I mean, Leon would never lie and technically, Kairi did call me up that day because she wanted to meet me at the beach to discuss some matter with me."
"And she has a pink coat, which would explain that spare light-pink button I found in your hand."
Aqua had nearly forgotten about that. The button could actually function as a piece of evidence.
"You know, she found my journal that day, where I…kind of talked about our kiss on the day that you brought me cookies," Terra admitted.
He wasn't looking at Aqua now, feeling far too embarrassed.
"…I remember."
"Anyway, that Leon guy stopped by earlier today when you were still sleeping. He was probably going to tell you about his role as an eye-witness in the case."
Aqua secretly missed Leon. He was like fire, passionate and dangerous and mysterious in everything he did. His movements were always so precise, almost as though he had trained at the military. Thinking about him made her heart beat faster…
She was probably just being delusional because of all the painkillers that that nurse had given to her. Even her thoughts shifted in a random pattern from one thing to another. Honestly, Aqua could see the resemblence between the nurse and her, but at the same time she had to admit that the nurse looked more like Kairi than like her.
Why did everyone in Radiant Garden look so much like each other?
A/N: Next chapter: Then why was he avoiding her gaze? What was Terra not telling her?
