Shanti giggled at her friends Eilonwy and Wendy. They were both celebrating at the local diner. Eilonwy had made it on the cheer team and Wendy had gotten, well a small one, a part in Hamlet. As they sat down Tiana came over. "hey girls what can I get you?" Shanti smiled up at the older girl. "three milkshakes. One vanilla." Eilonwy giggled "one chocolate." Wendy tried hard not to burst out laughing "and one strawberry" All three exchanged a look "And one side of fries" They all cheered, Tiana smiled at the three best friends "coming right up" Shanti was happy. She had met Eilonwy and Wendy in kindergarten. She could remember it now.
Shanti walked into Mrs. Darling's kindergarten class and looked around. Her neighbor Mowgli was quick to leave her to play with some other boys. She slowly walked over to what looked like an arts n crafts table. As Shanti walked over a kid who was running with paint bumped into her knocking the paint all over her dress. "no!" She screamed as she was closed to tearing up. "don't worry the sink is over there" A young Wendy said as she took the young Shanti over to the sink. Eilonwy came over next and took off her carignan. "here once we get you dry you can borrow this to cover any stains." Shanti smiled at her. "thank you both so much." Once Shanti was cleaned up the three looked at each other. "Best friends forever?" Eilonwy asks. The three quickly agreed.
Shanti smiled at the memory. "So Shanti now that we're in high school what are you going to do." Shanti looked up at Wendy. "um I'm not sure but I was thinking the school dance team might be fun." They smiled at her automatically accepted whatever their best friend wanted to do. Tiana showed up with their milkshakes and fries. The three best friends quickly went to dipping the fries in their milkshakes while laughing all the way.
Pocahontas had just finished running the track as Nakoma run up. "Hey up for a run Poca?" She asked, "Sure how we do some cross country?" Nakoma nodded and the pair headed off towards the woods behind North High School. As they ran Pocahontas could tell something was bugging Nakoma. 'Wonder what's wrong?' They stopped after a while near a small creek. "Koma everything okay?" Her friend's brown eyes narrowed in thought. "well you see uh…" Pocahontas raised an eyebrow at her, deeply confused. "I know you and Kocoum broke up a year ago but…" So that's what this was about. The young Native American knew that her friend had a crush on her ex boyfriend. She shook her head. "Koma go for it. Kocoum and I didn't mix well. But, it might work out for the two" Nakoma smiled as she hugged her friend. "thank you so much Poca. I got to go find him" She waved as she ran back towards the school. Pocahontas shook her head as she watched her friend leave. She did another mile in the woods then turned to run back to school. As she ran back she was stopped by a noise. "Hello?" She continued to walk as she gasped. "What are you doing!" John Smith looked up. "Carving my girlfriend's name into the tree who cares." Poca grabbed his arm. "This is a living thing how could you do such a thing." John shrugged. "What does it matter." She sighed. "Please don't. What if I carved a name into you." He looked at the odd girl. "Fine." He shrugged and started to walk away. "What's your name?" He asked turning around and noticing he was alone. "odd." Pocahontas had climbed into the tree and watched him. "wow my heart is pounding." She frowned worried of what was to come.
Miss Sally sighed as she went through the files of a student she had just met with. She truly loved her job as a guidance counselor. She heard a knock on her door and she looked up. "come in" A young girl, most likely a freshman, walked in. "oh hello may I help you." The girl bit her lip "uh I'm well I'm Riley and….uh I'm new and I was uh well told to come here to check in with uh you." Sally smiled at the shy girl. "welcome Riley have a seat." Sally watched as the young girl sat down. "Alright Riley welcome to North High." The redhead pulled out Riley's information. "Here is your schedule and a map of the school. Along with your locker combination and lunch code." Riley smiles softly as she accepted the papers. "uh thank you ma'am" Sally smiled. "tomorrow for your first day stop by and I'll have a girl with a very similar schedule as you help you around." Riley said thanks again and slowly walked out of the office. Sally smiled and looked through more files.
That next day Riley walked up to the school and looked up in fear. "okay I can do this just….just walk straight into Miss Sally's office and try not to do anything stupid." She gulped and made her way into the school. She passed all the upperclassmen who casually walked down the halls with their heads held high. It made her feel even more nervous as she knocked on Miss Sally's door. "Come in" The counselor's soft voice called out. As Riley opened the door she saw another red head sitting in front of Miss Sally. "Oh Hello Riley This is Jenny Foxworth, Jenny this is Riley Anderson." Jenny smiled and holds her hand out. "Welcome Riley I can't wait to show you around this school" Riley smiled softly and shakes Jenny's hand. "Alright you two stop by Riley's locker and then hurry along to class." Jenny nodded and practically dragged Riley out in excitement. "I am so happy to meet you Riley." Jenny said as she showed Riley her locker. "Uh thanks Jenny." She smiled and opened her locker when suddenly she found herself on the ground. "JORDAN!" Jenny yelled as she went to help Riley up. "You need to be more careful on that thing." Jordan rubbed his head as he grabbed his skateboard and looked up. "Uh sorry…."He locked eyes with Riley. "uh...uh hi….I...I'm.." Jenny rolled her eyes. "Riley this is Jordan, Jordan this is Riley now come on Riley we have History." Jenny lead Riley away and as she looks back she gives Jordan a nervous wave, her cheeks blushing the entire time. As Jordan watched the two girls disappeared. "Wow" The young boy shut Riley's forgotten locker and walked to class.
