Epilogue
Espio takes a deep breath as he opens his golden eyes for what feels like the first time in days. The room before him is blurry, the chameleon only roughly able to make out the details of his friends on the ground.
Wait, he notices there is someone else moving throughout the room. Forcing his way to his feet, the chameleon takes a tentative step forward, not even waiting for his vision to focus. Of course, regardless of Honey's last wish, he remembers everything. He is an experienced Planewalker, not even the demigods can take away that.
Espio's leg knocks into something, and he trips, landing half on the ground, halfway on something relatively hard.
Mighty.
Honey had given everything up to save him. All their past fights and conflicts, everything that had gone wrong had been in a way fixed, leaving them with a fresh slate. A slate to never be painted on or touched again.
Espio sighs as he slowly makes his way into the kitchen and grabs an apple. The chameleon inspects the apple, rubbing at it with his gloved finger. Deciding the apple is good, the chameleon takes a large bite out of it, only now realizing that he is hungry. Taking another bite of the fruit in his hand, the chameleon looks over to his wristband with a tired expression.
How much time had passed?
"Nicole?" Espio calls into the small device. There is a split second before a hologram is portrayed before him.
Slowly, small squares, nanites, find their way to the image, and form the solid body of Nicole. The lynx has dark brown fur with pointy cat-like ears and tale. The tips of her ears and tail are black, as are her hands and feet. She wears a wrap around purple dress, beads hanging off the ends. Her hair is the same black as her ears, her bangs covering her left eye, while the rest is in a braid at her back. Her eyes are a bright yellow-green, and Espio can't help but smile. Nicole had always been a good reliable friend, someone to turn to even in his darkest of times.
"Yes?" Nicole asks sweetly. Her eyes scanning the room, and taking in how the small cottage seems to be dirty. Although not a rarity in and of itself, Espio generally does try to clean up after his messier friends.
"What is today's date?" Espio asks, and for a moment Nicole looks confused.
"Um, I believe it is the 164th day." Nicole responds, and Espio nods. The girls stares at Espio, wondering what would cause him to ask such a strange question.
"Okay, thanks Nicole." Espio replies in a dismissive tone. Nicole frowns for a moment before disappearing.
"Three days." Espio mutters to himself. His golden eyes scanning the small cottage. They had been gone for three days.
Well, that made sense, saying as time on the Plane goes slower than time on Mobius.
Espio sighs again. They had all been so young. He had seen Honey, and he had thought it was love at first sight. Looking back on it now, he didn't have the slightest clue what was running through his head, he has nothing in common with her. His attraction had purely been one of the physical kind, one that had caused him to mess up his relationship with the cat before he could even have one.
However, there is someone who does love her. Someone else who has a lot in common with her. How could he have forgotten?
Mighty.
Standing up, Espio makes his way back into the small living area and gently starts shaking Mighty's shoulders. The armadillo doesn't move, instead he curls into a ball, using his shell to block Espio.
"Why aren't you guys awake? Are you feeling the dregs of not really resting for three days?" Espio asks, hoping above hope that someone would respond to him.
There is no answer however, aside from Mighty stirring slightly in his shell. Chaos knows why he expected anyone to respond. Their bodies aren't used to the effects of the Plane and it would take longer for them to become reaccustomed to the real world.
With a thoughtful sigh, Espio makes his way into the kitchen. Grabbing a cup, the chameleon opens the freezer door and shovels some ice into it, from there, the chameleon goes and fills the cup from water from the tap, swishing the cup around to ensure that the water is cold.
Returning to the main room, Espio walks over to where Mighty is and dumps the water on him. Hitting the small patch of the armadillo left unprotected by his shell.
The response is immediate, as Mighty jumps up off the ground and starts looking around, his eyes wide with confusion.
"What happened?" Mighty asks, however, his question is met by silence, as Espio holds out his arm and drags the armadillo to his feet.
"Nothing important. C'mon, I want to show you something." Espio responds. The chameleon presses a specific button on his watch, pulling up a nanite projection of Mobius. Looking around at the map, the chameleon's fingers start dancing quickly, tapping away at the holographic projection. Eyes narrowed in focus, the chameleon doesn't look up from the projection until a small red 'x' flashes on the screen.
"Thanks Nicole," Espio mutters, smiling fondly to himself.
"Okay, so first we need a warp ring." Espio says, a mysterious smirk finding its way to his lips.
~.~
"Where are we?" Mighty questions, glancing nervously at the trees that seem to tower over them. The grass is damp and the mud soft. Every step Mighty takes is followed by a squelch and a slight sinking sensation as his weight forces the dirt in.
"Right outside of Robotropolis." Espio responds, moving slowly and carefully. He had to keep his guard up for anything suspicious as well as ensure that Mighty doesn't get lost.
"Why did you take me here?" Mighty continues to interrogate, much to his dismay, he doesn't receive an answer. Instead, Espio walks faster, as though trying to run away from the questions, the memories, and most importantly, the realizations.
"Just to hang out..." Espio lies, the lie is weak and Espio knows that Mighty sees right through it. However, if the map is right, then it should only be a couple more steps until he finds what he is looking for. Mighty and Honey need to fix everything. All their mistakes, all their past fights, the wish that started this entire debacle, back when Mighty and Honey had been friends, and Espio would ensure that they would fix this.
"Shh," Espio hushes (although Mighty hadn't been making a sound), the chameleon glances past a group of trees, knowing that he should be able to see everything from here.
In the distance, he sees a girl with unkempt long, black hair. The hair is thin and seems to be breaking in certain parts, tangled within itself, and caked with dirt, leaves, as twigs. Her red dress is torn in numerous places, and little scabs cover her patchy, yellow fur. The chameleon cringes as he looks upon the horrendous sight. This is what has become of their longtime friend, and his first crush.
Espio motions for Mighty to follow him silently. As they approach, it occurs to them that Honey isn't paying attention or even looking in their direction. Once they are within hearing range, Espio moves off behind a couch and signals for Mighty to continue onwards.
The cat lets out an audible gasp and jumps up from where she is seated as she watches Mighty come into view.
"Mighty," the word escapes her lips like a breath of air as the armadillo pulls her into a tight hug.
"What happened to you?" Mighty murmurs, wiping the moisture off of the cat's cheek, ignoring any that might be forming on his own.
Honey doesn't answer though, and in the silence of celebrating their reunion Espio leaves.
"It's nice to see you again." Honey whispers, completely aware of what her wish entitled. This should not be happening. Mighty should have little recollection of her as any more than a friend. Yet, here he is, standing before her, holding her, and speaking to her as if there is something more between them, as if there had always been something more between them.
"Yeah, how'd you end up here?" Mighty asks, wrapping his arms around her waist. He couldn't remember what had happened to her. In fact, he hadn't remembered much of her being in his life until now.
"Banished..." She mutters and a short silence falls between the two, during which Mighty studies Honey and Honey studies Mighty. Each taking in every minute detail of the other and committing it to memory.
"By who?" Mighty asks, and Honey shrugs.
"I just remember waking up here one day." The girl lies. She knows exactly what had transpired and led to her life now. She just isn't sure whether or not she should tell him. Would telling him undo the wish in which their close relationship had never happened? Does meeting him here and now undo the wish? She didn't really want to think on the intricacies of how wishing and being the Wishing Queen works. She just wants to enjoy what is here and what is now.
"Why didn't you leave?" Might continues. Honey shrugs; there is just so much connecting her to this place, so much keeping her here. Plus, the world is a big place, a big place she doesn't really know about. Even if Honey were to begin a journey somewhere out there, she wouldn't know where to begin.
"Where can I go?" Honey questions, hoping Mighty would somehow be able to quell her inner turmoil. .
"What about back to Mercia?" Mighty responds casually. .
"Would I be able to?" Home. It had been a long time since Honey had been there and truthfully, she misses it. It would be nice to see everyone and to see how everything has changed.
"I'll set you up with Amy's cousin. He's the king right now...so hopefully he'll be accepting of you." Mighty explains and Honey smiles. A real smile, one that brightens the forest.
"Gladly." Honey giggles.
"Then we leave tomorrow," Mighty hops to his feet, pulling Honey up with him, "I'll see ya then." With that, Mighty pulls Honey into one last tight hug, noting just how thin the girl feels through her clothing. It would take a long time to get the Honey he had known back.
"Until then!" Honey calls back with a joyful smile, as Mighty turns and dashes off towards the kingdom doors.

While this story has taken 5 years for me to write, it has taught me a lot of things about writing (namely to have a document with how you want the story to go instead of relying completely on memory). I would also like to think that I have improved in my writing skills throughout the story.
So, thank you to everyone who has went on this ride to me, and I bid this story adieu.
