~ "Aqua, look. I want you to choose between either me or Terra right now. No more excuses." ~

91) End

This was it: the end of all the bad times. They had closed that nasty chapter for good, put it behind them and now, they would start a brand new chapter in their lives, Aqua thought, while she was slowly approaching the altar, where an euphoric Terra was waiting for her. Aqua felt delirously happy at the sight of the groom, who was dressed in a fancy tuxedo. Funny how the end of something could be a whole new beginning at the same time. A promising one at that.

However, when the bride-to-be reached the altar, she realized that the groom wasn't Terra at all; in fact, the groom was a faceless being. Suddenly, the faceless groom changed into Vanitas. His amber-colored eyes were smoldering, before he turned into... Leon? This didn't make any sense.

Then the face changed back to…

Fortunately for Aqua, she shot up with a jolt and realized that Vanitas – the real one – was looking at her in a less than pleased way.

"Nightmare?" he asked, in a matter-of-factly way.

Aqua decided to lie back in her comfy pillows. "Yeah… How long have you been here?"

"Long enough to know what you've been up to." He'd said it calmly, but the pretty bluenette knew that a storm was calling. "Aqua, look. I want you to choose between either me or Terra right now. No more excuses."

Her mouth dropped open for a moment, but she recovered quickly enough to say in an accusing tone, "You mean you're forcing me to do so."

"I wouldn't have to resort to that if you hadn't been leading me on this entire time. Do you think I'm stupid?" Aqua opened her mouth to protest, but Vanitas didn't give her a chance to reply, as he continued with, "There will never be a good timing for this, which is why I am asking you to answer me already."

"I-" she started, unsure of what to say, just when the door opened to reveal Terra.

Aqua let out an inward groan; this was just what she needed. Another reason for Vanitas to distrust her.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Terra demanded, when he noticed Vanitas.

"Visiting my beloved girlfriend, that's what. Shouldn't you be with your fiancée instead of loitering around here like some homeless stalker?"

"Takes one to know one," Terra retorted back.

Vanitas rolled his eyes at him. "Is that the best comeback you could offer? I don't have to listen to your drunk babbling. I don't pick fights with dead rocks. Aqua, I need an answer now."

Up until today, she never would've thought it was possible to feel something for two men at the same time. She gulped, knowing that no matter which name she uttered, she would break the other person's heart…

Love. It was a strange thing, not bound to the laws of logic. For example, if someone told her she would be stuck in a complicated love quadrangle two years ago, she would've laughed in their face. But who was she supposed to choose now? How would she know that she was doing the right thing? They said that love was like friendship set on fire. She had started as just friends with both men. By now, this wasn't a small fire anymore. No, its intensity could set forests on fire.

Aqua took a deep breath and was about to start telling them that this was not easy for her at all when the door opened once again.

"I hope I'm not interrupting? It's time for another check-up."

It was the same kind, dark-haired nurse who had been taking care of her this whole time.

Saved by the nurse, Aqua thought, feeling utterly relieved.

Vanitas's jaw seemed to completely tense up at the sound of the nurse's voice. The same went for the rest of his body.

Then, something utterly inexplicable happened. When Vanitas and the nurse locked eyes, the former growled, "You!" while the latter let out a shocked gasp, before saying "Vanitas! What are you doing here?"

"...You two know each other?" Terra asked, mildly surprised.

"Shut up!" was all Vanitas said. With that, he ended his short visit and left the room.
