Sansa's eyes widened as Tommen handed her a scroll, the words upon it were almost too good to believe. "Your grace, you are giving Tyrion and me an annulment?"
Tommen nodded slightly as he ran his hand gently over a black kitten that slept in his lap. "My uncle swore to me that your marriage was unconsummated, and that the only love you two share, is a love of friendship. He does not wish to keep you in an unwanted marriage."
Sansa looked down at the scroll again, her eyes roaming over the wording. There was nothing in the scroll about what would happen to Casterly Rock or to Tyrion for that matter. "And Tyrion… is this what he truly wants?" She looked back to Tommen, she couldn't bear the thought of hurting Tyrion.
"He does, he hopes one day that he can marry again, and for love, just as you wish to do so."
Sansa smiled a bit more as she looked over her shoulder to Sandor who had been completely silent the entire time. She then turned back to Tommen, "and he wanted nothing else? I am a bit surprised he did not ask for Casterly Rock."
Tommen looked to Sandor who snorted a bit at Sansa's statement, then looked back to her. "He knows that Casterly Rock is by all rights, yours. He wishes to remain here though, in your service to help keep watch over the land. Since he grew up here, his knowledge of the lands would be a great thing to have around." Tommen then tilted his head slightly, "unless you wish to return to Winterfell now?"
Sansa's eyes once again widened, she wanted nothing more than to return to Winterfell. But everyone had made Casterly Rock a new home for her, she would hate to make them feel as if she was turning her back on them. "Your grace, you know I want nothing more than to return to my family's home." She sighed a bit, "but this is my home now too. The soldiers and servants have been so gracious, I do not know if I could simply leave them so abruptly."
Tommen nodded, "I understand, the choice is yours of course. If you chose to return to Winterfell, then I would give Lordship to Tyrion over Casterly Rock. I know he would take good care of his family's lands." He looked to Sandor again then back to Sansa. "I have delayed my departure to Kings Landing for another day to give you time to think on it. I hate to rush it, but I will need an answer by morning."
Sansa nodded and slowly stood from her chair, "I understand your grace. And answer you will have."
….
"Word from Casterly Rock?" Gregor approached Jon as he sat near the fire, reading a letter.
"Arya is not coming yet. Apparently Tyrion is not dead, and he may take Sansa's place there at Casterly Rock." He looked up at Gregor, "Sansa may return to Winterfell as well to take her place as Queen of the North." He then crumpled up the letter and threw it to the fire.
"This is good news, to have both of your sister's return." Gregor grinned slightly, knowing that if Sansa were to return, his brother would be by her side.
Jon stood and nodded, "we must get the men working harder. If she does return, I wish Winterfell to be in the best shape possible." He turned to walk away, "and Gregor…" he stopped in his tracks and looked over his shoulder, "make sure we are stocked up on furs and meats. Winter is coming fast."
….
"How can you even question what to do Sansa?" Arya looked up at her sister as they walked together. "You've fought so long to get back to Winterfell, now you can just go!"
Sansa sighed and shook her head, "it is not that simple. I have worked so hard to ensure the soldiers and servants here trusted me, and are loyal to me. I would hate to break their trust by simply handing everything over to Tyrion and leaving."
Arya shrugged a bit, "why don't you ask them what they want you to do?" She looked up at Sansa who had gasped slightly. "You worry about what others want, how do you know they would want you to sacrifice your happiness? Besides, you're to be Queen of the North. And with you and Tommen being so close, it would reunite the north and south, all these stupid wars could end!"
Sansa laughed slightly as she shook her head, "you make it sound so simple Arya. And perhaps it can be that simple, maybe the men will be pleased to hear a true Lannister is returning to power." She took a hold of her sister's hand and smiled, "I am so glad I have you with me Arya."
Arya nodded, "as long as you don't try to put me in anymore dresses, we'll be better than we were growing up."
Both girls laughed together as they headed towards the main hall to dine with the King and Queen.
…
"Get me the girl unharmed and I will give you what you ask of me."
The room was dark, the only light came from a fire burning in the middle of the room. One man seemed to be speaking directly to the flames as they burned, the other was nowhere in sight.
"Keep watch where you are, be patient. The girl will come to you, then you can grab her. Once she is safely delivered to me, I will take care of the rest." The man who spoke chuckled a bit, "do not step out of line while you wait, they must think you are a better person now. That means no killing, until it is time."
Slowly the flames extinguished, leaving the room in pure darkness.
…
"It's unanimous my lady, everyone agrees that you should return to your rightful home so that you can take your throne." Rocar sat with Sansa in her chambers. "I spoke with each soldier and servant in the household personally, and though they have grown to love you, and would miss you, they want what is right for you and for the kingdoms."
Sansa nodded, taking a sip of her tea as she looked thought on it. "And they will give their loyalty to Tyrion, no questions asked?"
Rocar nodded, "they seem to have already welcomed him with open arms. Tyrion had won the hearts of many after the Battle of the Blackwater." Rocar chuckled a bit, "and it helps that he has Bronn with him, that chap is quite the entertainer."
Sansa laughed with a nod, "Bronn has always had a way with people that is for sure." She sighed a bit and leaned forward slightly, "alright, then it is settled. I shall return to Winterfell, and King Tommen can grant Casterly Rock to Tyrion." She smiled a bit more, "this all feels so surreal, and I never thought I would have the chance to return home."
Rocar nodded as he stood from his chair, "I can imagine my lady, but times have changed since King Joffrey's death. And truth be told, with you reigning over the north, and Tommen over the South, I can sense peace returning to Westeros." He then bowed slightly before leaving her chambers, bidding her goodnight.
