Here is the final chapter of the story arc! … Well, sort of. He wants a couple of things in the chapter before it's truly finished. The demonic spiders continued to crawl out of the black portal created by Arc Mana. Their claws had acid on them, so when they climbed on the buildings they burned through the structures. The people fled in terror as Arc Mana giggled like a schoolgirl.
"Heeheeheeheehee!" Arc Mana laughed flamboyantly. "I'm finally able to finish the plan I started seven years ago!"
Jason shot a whirlwind at some of the spiders, sending them flying back into the lake. He then looked up at Arc Mana and glared at him.
"Oh! A new rival appear before me!" Arc Mana said. "This will be a gripping battle to the death that shall be spoken for years to come! Tremble before the might of my evil legion of spiders! And bow before me!"
"… Who the hell are you?" Jason asked, exasperated.
"Gah!" Arc Mana gasped. "You're telling me you've never heard of the infamous Arc Mana?"
"No, not really." Jason answered bluntly.
"Seven years ago I nearly brought the world to its knees with a very similar legion of spiders." Arc Mana stated. "I had nearly succeeded, but as my legion crossed the lake some scatterbrained buffoon set it on fire and my entire legion fell into the water as it collapsed."
They both turned their attention to the spiders that Jason knocked into the water. The spiders tried to climb out of the water, but their bodies dissolved into nothing.
"As you can see, they don't get along with water." Arc Mana said. "But for the past seven years, I've developed THIS potion!" He held out a beaker of boiling pink magic. "This potion, once broken on the ground, will envelop the entire town in a fog, drying up all the water and allowing my spiders to cross the lake without an issue."
Jason just glared at the man's stupidity. "… You do realize it's a lake."
"What's your point?" Arc Mana asked.
"You can walk around it without ever having to go over the water!" Jason shouted.
Arc Mana looked at the water and then saw that the land actually curved around the lake. He then looked at the potion.
"… Not gonna lie. That was a lack of hindsight on my part." Arc Mana said. "But I put seven years of work into this damn potion and I'm gonna damn well use it! It took forever to find the hair of a White Dragon Slayer!"
"What?" Jason asked.
"The White Dragon Slayer you just defeated over there!" Arc Mana pointed to Kyo. "This hair was the final ingredient for this potion and I may not need to dry up all the water in the lake, but it will drain all moisture from organic materials and everyone in town will DIE of dehydration! You're doomed! Dooooomed!"
As Arc Mana continued his flamboyant monologue, he threw the beaker onto the ground and it just broke. There was no fog, no nothing.
"What? Where's my fog?" Arc Mana asked.
"That guy wasn't the White Dragon Slayer." Jason pointed out as he leered at Arc Mana.
"You mean he LIED?!" Arc Mana asked.
"Of course I lied!" Kyo shouted. "I was trying to impress a hot chick! Men always lie like that!"
"… Well, this has been a very disappointing day." Arc Mana said. "Oh well, I still have my legion of spiders. Go! Kill them all!" He commanded while waving his arms in front of him like a little girl.
The legion of spiders started skittering about town and terrorizing the townsfolk.
"Forest Dragon Wing Attack!"
Sakura shot from her arms two long wings made out of cherry blossom petals and knocked several of the spiders away. The ones on the right were sent flying into the water while Sakura got to where the others she struck were.
"Forest Dragon Roar!"
She shot her breath attack at the spiders and the forced sent them into the lake.
"Flora, help guide the townspeople to safety!" Sakura said.
"Got it!" Flora said before flying out toward the town.
A short distance away, Ultear was hurling her crystal ball at the spiders to knock them into the lake.
"Flash Forward!"
"Maguilty=Rays!" Meredy fired a flurry of yellow blades flying at the hoard of spiders.
After taking out about a dozen spiders, Meredy turned her head to check on the unconscious Foster. There were several spiders approaching his body, ready to gnaw at him.
"FOSTER!" Meredy screamed.
Before the spiders got too close to Foster, a series of bone-like spikes protruded from the ground and stabbed each of the spiders in the head.
"Need some help?"
Meredy looked up to see that Morticia was standing on top of one of the buildings.
"Morticia!"
"I'll keep those things away from Foster." Morticia said. "You just focus on the ones about to attack you from behind."
A couple of spiders were lunging at Meredy's blind spot until they got smacked in the head by a crystal ball.
"Meredy, pay attention!" Ultear said.
The women continued to fight off the army of spiders.
Jellal fired a round of magical bullets from his fingers that blasted away the spiders the moment they made contact.
"There's just no end to them!" Jellal said.
After Jason blasted another cluster of spiders into the lake, he jumped back toward Jellal and watched their bodies dissolved.
"If only my Zephyr Magic could absorb water that wasn't created using magic." Jason said. "You wouldn't happen to know any water magic, would ya?"
While Yukino was using Libra to fend off the hoard of spiders, she overheard Jason and Jellal talking.
"Water… That's it!" Yukino said as she pulled out one of her Celestial keys. "Open, Gate of the Paired Fish! Pisces!"
Instead of the two giant fish appearing, a woman and a young man appeared instead.
"This is Pisces' true form! Mother and son!" Yukino said.
"It appears we have been summoned in this form, Mama." The son Pisces said.
"Yes, son." The mother Pisces nodded.
"Please help us get rid of those spiders!" Yukino said. "They turn to mush when they make contact with water!"
"Okay, Mama!" The son Pisces said.
"I'm not your mother!" Yukino exclaimed.
Both Pisces created a high pressure water jet at a massive hoard of spiders, causing them to dissolve upon contact.
*Even with water magic at our disposal, there's too many skittering about town.* Jason thought to himself. After a few seconds, he jumped up high into the air and started to form a tornado around his body that gradually grew bigger. "Have Pisces shoot water at this tornado!"
"What? Why?" Yukino asked as she looked up at Jason.
"Just do it!" Jason shouted.
"Pisces!" Yukino said as she turned back to Pisces.
"Understood." The mother Pisces said.
They fired the water jet at Jason's tornado and his Zephyr Magic absorbed the water, merging it with the tornado. After a few seconds of focus, Jason released the wind and water started to pour down onto the town. He was high enough so that the water he spread out could cover the entire area of the town. As the miniature rain fell upon the town, the spiders dissolved upon contact with the water and not a single trace of them was left remaining. With all the spiders taken care of, all of the wizards turned their attention to Arc Mana, who just stared blankly at this turn of events.
"… I think I should be going now." Arc Mana said.
Arc Mana started running off, but was stopped by a metal arm smashing him. Kyo clotheslined him in the neck causing his head to snap back. Arc Mana fell to the ground motionless.
"You're not going anywhere." Kyo said looking down at the body.
He noticed that Arc Mana's eyes were a lifeless white, his head was bending back too far and his mouth was agape without any breath.
"…Oops…" Kyo said.
Sakura looked around to see that all five Crime Sorcière wizards had vanished without a trace. All she did was lightly smile before she could hear Flora calling out to her.
"Sakura!" Flora said as she flew down toward her. "You wouldn't believe it! It rained for a second and all the spiders turned to mush! Are you and Jason alright?"
"We're fine, Flora." Sakura said before turning to Jason. "Hey, Jason! Our work here is done, so let's head home!"
Jason sighed and walked up to her. "All right."
Kyo pulled Arc Mana's body up by his collar and shook him back and forth. He then tried to close the jaw only to have it flop open.
"Yep, he's dead." Kyo said, tossing the corpse back down to the ground.
"Kyo." Yukino ran up to him. "Are you alright?"
"I'm doing better than him."
Yukino looked down at Arc Mana's body and gasped. "Kyo! You killed him?!"
"It was an accident!" Kyo explained. "He just ran into me."
Yukino held her face in a face-palm fashion, until the sound of clapping hands made her look up. The townspeople were applauding the two wizards for saving the town. Several camera flashes started to capture the image of the moment. Kyo took advantage of the situation and waved at the people.
"It was nothing, really." He said. "Just another day for the Sabertooth guild." He then grabbed Yukino by the shoulders and ushered her forward. "Our new recruit here deserves the praise though."
Yukino got embarrassed as the cameras began focusing on her, but even more so when Kyo whispered in her ear. "You did good, Yuki."
Since some of the rails around the Rose Lake station were destroyed by the spiders, the Phoenix Dawn wizards had to take a carriage all the way back to Roseshade. Sakura lied on the seat, suffering from her motion sickness with Flora trying her best to comfort her.
Jason simply chuckled at the sight of the two before looking out the window to take in the scenery. However, there was one thing that caught his eye. A person wearing a green cloak was passing by the carriage and a brief gust of wind came by, causing the person's hood to flutter open slightly and reveal their face. Jason's eyes widened upon seeing that the figure's face looked exactly like his own. However, Jason shook his head and dismissed it as him just seeing things.
A/N: Sorry this chapter took so long. Unfortunately, until mid-December I'm not allowed to right FF as frequently, but I'll do my best to keep the updates coming as quickly as possible.
