Chapter 10: Parents
The brunette frowned and looked at Damon, scowling as he shrugged his shoulders in confusion. Breathing deeply, she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water as she took a gulp with paracetamol. What did he want now? Why was he calling her? Licking her lips, she pushed herself up onto the counter and looked down at the floor.
"Hello Klaus, how can I help you today?" The brunette questioned.
"Well I was wanting to invite you-"
"No." She replied bluntly. She knew what he was inviting her to and he had some nerve.
"Its Caroline 's birthday, she misses you Elena, you're her best friend."
"I know it's her birthday and was. WAS. Not anymore."
"Elena, she would want you there. You can't let her down."
"Let her down? I would only be returning the favour" Elena scoffed.
"Elena-"
"Have a nice day Klaus." The brunette cut him off, hanging up.
Tilting her head back against the wall, she let out the breath that she had held in. Hearing the shower running, she looked up with a soft smile and lowered herself down to the floor. Hanging the phone on the stand, she walked into the bedroom and crawled onto the bed, falling into the comfort of the covers. Pulling them over her, she got comfortable and hugged the pillow, her eyes glued to the bathroom door as she waited for the television to come to life.
Rolling onto her back, she looked at the television and watched as the different images flashed across the screen. The door opened as Damon walked out, a towel wrapped around his waist as he grabbed a pair of silk pyjama bottoms and slipped them on under his towel. Taking the towel, he folded it and placed it to the side. Moving onto the bed, he kissed Elena's forehead and joined her under the covers.
"So, what was the call about?" He questioned, taking a strand of hair around his finger.
"Uh, it was Klaus." Elena sighed, leaning into his touch.
"What did he want then?" He raised an eyebrow, twirling her hair around his finger.
"To invite me to Caroline 's birthday. God, the cheek of it."
"Hmm."
"Goodnight."
Elena rolled onto her side, her back to him as she closed her eyes tightly and inhaled as she felt herself beginning to doze into the land of slumber. Damon moved closer, wrapping his arm around her waist as he kissed her shoulder.
Moving around the kitchen, the blue-eyed masterpiece slaved over the stove as he grabbed two plates out, laying them out on the table. Taking the plate with the pile of pancakes, he placed it in the middle of the table and smiled. Taking the bowl he filled with fruit, he put that beside them.
Elena moaned, gripping the covers in her hand as her eyes fluttered open, showing the chocolate-brown orbs. Surveying her surroundings, she seen that Damon wasn't in his side of the bed. Rolling onto her back, she stretched out and exhaled as she pushed herself into a sitting position. What time was it? Looking over at the clock, she seen that it was 8:00 am. Yawning, she got up and walked out into the living room as she heard the letter box go. Going over, she lifted the envelope from the ground and studied it. She knew what it was. Going to the kitchen, she grinned as she seen Damon and the table set up. Setting the envelope down on the counter, she hugged Damon.
"Hi." She grinned, kissing the back of his neck.
"Hello there gorgeous, nice sleep?" He asked, turning in her arms.
"The best yet. I see you've been busy."
"The kitchen is where I show most pride."
"Oh yeah, I'm sure it is." Elena laughed, taking a seat as she poured herself a drink.
"What's this?" He asked, lifting the envelope.
"Uh, that is nothing to talk about." The brunette replied, sipping her orange.
Damon opened it up, reading it and seen that it was an invitation to Caroline's birthday party. Sitting down, he placed it on the table and watched as Elena took a few pancakes onto her plate and piled on fruit. Licking his lips, he sipped his coffee and took some pancakes himself.
"You're the best cook in the world." She moaned, licking her lips as she took a sip.
"Why thank you. I try my best to please and succeed." Damon smirked, winking at her.
"That you do sir. That you do." She took another bite, glancing at the newspaper.
"I think that we should go." He spoke softly, watching her.
"Go where?" She looked at him in confusion and raised an eyebrow.
"To Caroline 's birthday party."
"What?" She gaped, "are you serious?"
"100% serious." He replied, getting started on his pancakes.
"Damon.." She whined.
"Elena, you need to show that you aren't bothered." He told her, sipping his coffee.
"But I'm not bothered." She frowned, biting her lip.
"Exactly. So you go there and be the bigger person, you show her how to be a REAL friend."
Elena leaned back into the chair, a frown on her face as she thought it over and sighed in annoyance. Why was the man always right? The only problem is that everyone would be there. The good thing was that she has Damon with her.
"Fine, you win." She poured, crossing her arms as she sighed dramatically.
"I always do."
Grinning, he got to his feet as he lifted her over his shoulder causing her to shriek and laugh in surprise. Holding onto his shirt, she continued laughing as he walked into the living room and dropped her onto the couch. Hovering over her, he kissed her as she kissed him back, fisting his hair into her hand.
People pushed and rushed through the terminal, everyone having somewhere they had to be. The brunette pulled her case along as she watched Damon talking on his phone. Business as usual. She called Klaus after their little make out session and he said he'd pick them up. Yay, so excited. Taking a breath, she looked around and froze in her spot as she seen the two people she wanted to avoid. Her parents.
"Hello Elena."
