Chapter Nineteen
Missing?
Natsu's POV:
As soon as all the bands had performed Gajeel stood up and said that since we rocked that lame ass song we should celebrate. I couldn't agree more, so I grabbed Lucy's hand and away we went. Once we arrived at the Bar Sun though we were greeted with a hefty surprise, everyone that we knew and loved from Magnolia were all there, even the old man. I was excited, but also extremely confused as I asked,
"What's going on, why are you guys here?" That was when Mira hugged me so tightly that I lost the ability to breath as she said,
"We saw you guys on TV and we all decided that we had to come here to cheer you on properly." I tapped on her arm as my eyes began to lose focus and I wheezed out,
"Mira...can't...breath..." That was when she looked down at me and quickly let go as she apologized. I sank to my knees as I gulped in some much needed air. I looked up at the old man and asked,
"What about the guild?" He just waved me off and said,
"Some old friends are taking care of it, don't worry so much." I wanted to ask which old friends, but before I could get the question out something blue and furry began to rub itself against my leg. I let out a manly squeal as I scooped Happy into my arms and held him close,
"Oh buddy I missed you so much." I then heard Lucy's laugh and turned to see her as she accepted a drink from Cana. She raised the glass to me and took a sip. As I was watching her though the bar seemed to get very quiet, and when I turned my head to see what had caused the sudden silence I was greeted with a face I hadn't seen in what seemed like forever, and one I thought I would never see again, since I was under the impression that she was dead. I let my eyes wonder to Mira and saw that she was softly crying right before she pulled the girl in question into one of her breath taking hugs. That was about when I knew that the girl before me wasn't just a figment of my over worked imagination and really was my childhood friend.
I couldn't help but stare as she pulled herself away from her near hysterical sister and walked towards me. I cleared my throat and tried to look anywhere but at her, until she was standing right in front of me and I was forced to face her,
"Lisanna…" Before I could say anything else she threw herself into my arms and covered my mouth with hers. I heard a collective intake of breath around the room and the sound of a glass hitting the floor before I managed to peel Lisanna off of me. I took a deep breath before I asked, "What was that for?" She shrugged,
"I guess I missed you more than I thought." I raised my eyebrow as I tried to step away and make my way towards Lucy, but Lisanna grabbed a hold of my arm and lead me towards the bar, and in the opposite direction of Lucy.
Lucy
She was back, and it looked as if she was planning on picking up right where she left off, if her throwing herself into Natsu's arms meant anything. Then I saw her lips crash down on his, and I couldn't seem to keep a hold of my glass as I heard it crash to the floor. I watched as Natsu's pulled away from her kiss, and as she seemed to glue herself to his side. I knew that Natsu was too much of a nice guy to give her the cold shoulder, and why should he, she was once his very close friend, and if that kiss was any indication they were probably a little more. I took a deep breath and tried to ignore how she was leading him around, because I knew I shouldn't be jealous, I knew that Natsu loved me, but watching her with him and how they seemed to slip into this easy banter, I couldn't help but to suddenly feel like the outsider.
I patted Cana's shoulder as I said loudly enough for her to hear me,
"I going to get some air." She nodded and asked,
"What me to come with?" I shook my head,
"Stay. Drink." She gave me a look that asked if I was sure and I just nodded as I walked out of the front door of the bar before anyone could see the tears that were welling in my eyes. Once I was outside I looked up at the stars as I wrapped my arms around myself to limit the shaking from the sobs that seemed to wrack my body. I didn't want to lose Natsu, but I didn't feel as if I had the right to fight for him with a girl that had literally come back from the dead.
I took a deep breath once I felt the tears run out and whipped my face with my hands. I then looked at the door and realized I really didn't have the strength to watch her hanging all over my boyfriend, so I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone. I then sent Natsu a message that I was beat and heading back to the dorm. I didn't wait for a response before I started the relatively long walk to the dorm room I shared with my bandmates, as I wondered if they were still my bandmates now that Lisanna was back, since I was pretty much just her replacement anyway. I sighed and looked up at the stars again hoping that they might be able to help sooth my chaotic thoughts, when I suddenly felt something pressed over my nose and mouth. I tried to scream, but the cloth only muffled the sound. I tried to fight, but my limbs weren't doing what I wanted them to do. My eyelids were growing heavy and then I was consumed by darkness.
The next thing I saw when I cracked my eyes open again I was in a very plush living room that was bigger than my entire apartment and I was in it with the all the other lead singers from the other bands. I sat up and instantly regretted it as the room swam. I closed my eyes and counted to ten in my head before I chanced opening them again. This time when I opened them the room stayed just where it was, and I was left only confused as to why I was here, although I suspected it was yet another game in this stupid competition. I let out a sigh as I pulled myself off of the purple plush couch as I tried to think of a way out of this ridiculous room, when that voice I was really growing to hate crackled through the speaker,
"Hello, there singers. I bet you are all wondering why you are in this room." I heard a voice mutter,
"Because you drugged us and kidnapped us you freaking psycho." I looked over to see Kagura as she crossed her arms over her chest and glared at the speaker just waiting to hear the ridiculous reason for us all being abducted.
"We needed to test the rest of your band. To see how well they would do without your talent. So we took you out of the equation so to speak." Sudden I saw a shoe fly past my head and nail the speaker with a loud thump, as I heard the lead singer from Quatro Puppy yell,
"You jackasses couldn't just tell us to stay in the dorm?" We then heard the voice clear its throat,
"I understand that you are all a bit upset." I heard Minerva from Sabertooth mumble,
"A bit?" There was a pause as if, the person speaking could hear us as well, before he continued,
"We needed to test how your bandmates did without you, both on and off the stage, so we invite you to stay here until the show is over tonight. Please feel free to eat and drink as much as you like until then." The voice then cut out and we were all left alone in an unknown room together. I took a deep breath as I squared my shoulder and headed towards the bar, because I was going to make them regret their open bar policy.
Natsu
Where was she? After I had gotten Lucy's text saying she was heading back to the dorm I was finally able to pry myself away from Lisanna as I explained how beat I was after the show. She looked disappointed, but didn't try and stop me as I rushed out of the door. Now if I could only find the girl I was looking for. I ran to the dorm, and when I noticed that the only person there was Wendy, I quietly turned around and retraced my steps thinking that I had to have just missed her somewhere along the way. I wondered what felt like the whole city by the time the sun began to rise and I was still nowhere close to finding her.
I had called her phone nonstop, and left panicked messages and by the time I reached the Dorm again I just felt lost, I didn't know where she was, or how to find her. I sank onto my bed in exhaustion just as I heard that damned speaker go off,
"Good morning all! I trust that you all are having a pleasant morning." I glared at the speaker as it continued to talk, "You all may or may not have noticed that your bands are all one band member short." I leapt to my feet as I yelled,
"Those sons of bitches. I'll kill them." I began to walk towards the door when the voice said,
"I don't want anyone to do anything too rash. We simply borrowed your singers, so that everyone else would have a chance to shine. Now for tonight's show every band will have to play a song that tells us the judges how you feel about your singer. After the show we will let all the singers return to their bands. Good luck." As the speaker cut out I clenched my fist and cursed this stupid contest, but I was willing to do anything to get Lucy back.
The band and I practiced for pretty much the whole day, we only seemed to take breaks when Wendy and Levy brought us food or coffee, and it was always during those breaks that I hoped that Lucy was alright. By the time we had finally made it to the stage I was so nervous I was pretty sure I was going to puke, but you know the show must go on and all that. I stood on that stage all looked over at the other bands, Sabertooth actually seemed more at ease without there cantankerous singer, whereas the other bands seemed out of their element without a key member, and we weren't an exception. I kept looking over my shoulder hoping to catch a glimpse of Lucy only to remember that she wasn't there. I took a deep breath as I shook those thoughts from my head, because I had to do well at this to help Lucy.
The voice began to speak over the speakers again,
"I sure hope that everyone is prepared, because it is time to get this show on the road. First up tonight is Blue Pegasus, then Sabertooth, third on the bill is Fairy tail, followed by Mermaid Heel, then Lamia Scale and lastly Quatro Puppy. I looked over to Blue Pegasus's stage as Ren took Hibiki's place in front of the mic. Eve then began to play a upbeat tune on an acoustic guitar just as Ren began to sing,
"Well it was ugly but we made it this far. Some have gone but I forget who they are. Now the hangovers are worse but we get through them fine. Sleeping late but were not lazy. Getting older but were still crazy. I'm so glad that I have these friends o mine." Ren paused and wiped his hand on his pants as took a deep breath, before he continued, "It started out at a coffee shop in a most unlikely town, and there were casualties but we made it out anyhow. We stuck together through the good and bad times. Pulp Fiction, Blazing Saddles, and Fast Times. I'm so glad that I have these friends o mine." Ren seemed to relax a bit as Eve continued to play the upbeat music, he even cracked a smile before he began to sing again, "And jobs girls and obstacles did all but break us down. Night clubs and broken vans in every major town. And I've got your back, you've got mine. Like Johnny Cash said "I walk the line," And you can always count on me for one last beer." The pace of the song then began to quicken as Ren began to sing faster, "We saw the world and the world seemed smaller. We're getting wider but not getting no taller. I know we've grown up just a little lot of time." He held that note just a little longer before he continued, "Were sleeping late but were not lazy. We're getting older but were still crazy. I'm so glad that I have these friends o mine. So glad that I have these friends o mine. So glad that I have these friends o mine." Just as he let go of that last note, Hibiki stumbled onto the stage and embraced his two bandmates as the crowd and the other bands cheered.
The spotlight then turned to Sabertooth, who now had Sting as their front man. Rouge then began to shred on the guitar, right before the drums kicked in. By this point String was jumping around like he was having the best time in the world, then he began to sing,
"You paid a pretty little penny, you did. You bought your smile in a corner. You paint yourself in a picture. As you deny the kind of person you've been." The tempo sped up a little and Sting began to yell just the slightest bit, "You get what you feel, what you wish to be, you can't live sarcastic sincerity. You sharpen your guilt like a guillotine. You get what you feel, you get what you feel." Sting was all over the stage as he jumped up and down and sang, "I gave you everything, you threw it away. Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette. Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay.
Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette." Sting stopped jumping and grabbed the mic stand as he yelled with his fist in the air, "Come on! You pop right in to the moment, you paid a pretty little penny, you did. You never noticed how broken, as you deny the kind of person you've been." Sting smiled as he began to jump around again, like this was the best night of his life as he sang his heart out, "You get what you feel, what you wish to be. You can't live sarcastic sincerity. You sharpen your guilt like a guillotine. You get what you feel, you get what you feel. I gave you everything, you threw it away. Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette. Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay. Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette." He stopped and threw his hands in the air then began to clap as he placed the mic in the stand be he began to sing in a near whisper, "You kneel to pray, live life on your knees embrace the disease. Stop to breathe in as you start to choke, your life begins." He then screamed, "YOU PUT ME OUT! LIKE A CIGARETTE! I gave you everything, you threw it away. Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette. Love like a cancer, still you beg me to stay. Put me out like a cigarette, out like a cigarette." As soon as the music stopped Minerva was stalking across the stage with a look of death in her eyes until she was standing right in front Sting. She then raised her hand and slapped heard enough across the face that we could hear the crack of it through the mic he was holding. I winced at the sound and held my hand to my own face, because it suddenly hurt out of sympathy.
Then their stage went dark and the spotlight began to shine on us. I took a deep breath as I stepped into the light more, I then nodded my head and Gray, and Erza began to play softly as did Gajeel before I stood in front of the mic stand and began to sing,
"If I was Jay-Z, you'd be my Beyonce. We could rock the nation like they do, and if I was Da Vinci, you'd be Mona Lisa. Paint a smile perfectly on you. And if I was James Dean, you could be my Audrey.
Breakfast at Tiffany's for two. So throw me away, Cause if I were a boomerang," I pulled the mic from the stand as I began to jump around, "I'd turn You you yeah yeah. Around and come back to you. Back back to you you, yeah yeah," I began to pace the stage as I continued, "If you want to, we'll take the world by storm. Show you places, you've never been before. LA, New York, what are you waiting for? Drop him, take me, cause I love you more." I smiled to myself because I knew that if Lucy was listening that her face would be bright red at me telling her I loved her via a song, in front of the entire world, "If I was Jay-Z, you'd be my Beyonce. We could rock the nation like they do, and if I was Da Vinci, you'd be Mona Lisa. Paint a smile perfectly on you, and if I was James Dean, you could be my Audrey
Breakfast at Tiffany's for two. So throw me away. Cause if I were a boomerang I'd turn around and come back to you." I began to jump around again as I looked over to Gray who was also hopping up and down as he played, "Back back to you you, yeah yeah,
You you, yeah yeah." I strode back to the mic stand, "Let's pop champagne, fake like we're billionaires. Just you and me, ain't much but we don't care. You look so good, I love when people stare.
You on my arm, tryin' to keep you there. If I was Jay-Z, you'd be my Beyonce. We could rock the nation like they do, and if I was Da Vinci, you'd be Mona Lisa. Paint a smile perfectly on you, and if I was James Dean, you could be my Audrey. Breakfast at Tiffany's for two. So throw me away, Cause if I were a boomerang. I'd turn around and come back to you." I hopped up and down as I sang, "Back back to you you, yeah yeah, You you, yeah yeah. You you, yeah yeah. You you, yeah yeah." I cupped the mic with my hands I as I sang in a near whisper, "Doesn't matter what you do. I'll be there for you. I'll be there for you, yeah. Doesn't matter what you say, cause I'm here to stay. What I'm tryin' to say, yeah. Doesn't matter what you do,
I'll be there for you, I'll be there for you, yeah. Doesn't matter what you say, cause I'm here to stay. What I'm tryin' to say." I started to dance in place as I sang a little louder, "If I was Jay-Z, you'd be my Beyonce. We could rock the nation like they do, and if I was Da Vinci, you'd be Mona Lisa. Paint a smile perfectly on you.
And if I was James Dean, you could be my Audrey. Breakfast at Tiffany's for two. So throw me away, Cause if I were a boomerang. I'd turn around and come back to you. Back back to you you, yeah yeah, You you, yeah yeah. You you, yeah yeah." I lowered my voice again as I held onto the mic, "Throw me away, Cause if I were a boomerang. I'd turn around and come back to you. Right back to you." I didn't even have the last word out of my mouth before Lucy threw herself into my arms and pulled me into a kiss that was all passion as the light clicked off of us and left us in total darkness I just pulled her closer as I heard Gray yell,
"Oh come on guys there are kids watching."
To be continued…
Again I am so very sorry about the super late update. Let me know your thoughts on this chapter and I'll hopefully have the next one up in the next week or so.
