Disclaimer: The Chronicles of Narnia belong to C.S. Lewis, not me or am I making any profit with this story. I only own Alexandra and her friends/family or any other character you don't recognize.

How did she not notice what they were doing? She was supposed to be the most receptive one out of the three of them! Right? If freaking Robert was able to mess with her so easily, she was defenseless against Nathan. That thought made her frown slightly.

The queen felt very dumb as they both finally crossed the gates of the palace, on their way to what she assumed were the woods. They had been silent ever since he asked her if she was ready to go, and the air was now getting a little bit too uncomfortable. How come they were married, best friends, and combat partners, and still they couldn't even find a way to start a conversation? It was ridiculous.

"So Ed…" Alex decided to be the first one to talk, apparently taking him by surprise.

"Yes?"

"How did you make a decent liar out of Robert in such a short time?" She asked nonchalantly, hoping he wouldn't be offended by the question.

"Well, it definitely wasn't an easy job." He answered with a small smirk. "He is pretty bad, to be honest I didn't think it would work at all. But he told me to trust him."

Now the surprised one was the brunette girl.

"And you did? Just like that?"

"It's not like I had many options…But why do you sound so surprised?" He frowned.

"I just thought you hated the poor guy." She shrugged.

"Hmm. Interesting concept the one you have of me."

Alex rolled her eyes. "Oh come on, you were not happy that I knew him at all."

"I was just making sure he was someone we could trust and not some spy Alex, I don't know if you remember, but I'm sort of in charge of security around here."

"Okay, okay. Point taken, you win." She said, not really wanting to keep fighting with him. "You could've asked me, you know?…"

"Huh?"

"To come on this ride, you could've just asked me."

He blushed upon hearing this, and then he took a deep breath.

"I was afraid you'd say no." He confessed, and Alex felt bad, but she really wanted to laugh.

"Hmm…How interesting."

"What?" He asked, and traces of red were still visible on his face.

"The fact that you thought that I would say no to you, but yes to Robert."

"Actually, it was more like yes to Lucy." He clarified, she gave him a blank stare. "I'm sorry, it was the first thing I could think of…You've become very unpredictable, I never know what you're going to say or do."

"Well, I guess it's fine. Let's not talk about that anymore." She said looking away, they were almost on the entrance to the woods. "Why did we come here?"

"I don't know, I just wanted us to be alone for a while, away from the castle and everyone's prying eyes, I thought this place was discreet enough." He explained in his easy way of talking, and Alexandra almost melted just from hearing his voice.

It had always been weird with them, they were both explosive at times, very emotional, temperamental, and pig headed even. They could converse, discuss, argue, and even fight a lot, but at random times they let their guards completely down and simply enjoyed the love they had for each other. It was the smallest details that triggered these moments.

"So that means you have something important to tell me." Alex concluded, and Edmund wanted to be surprised that she figured it out, but the truth is that he wasn't, she had always had an impressive way of reading him.

"I do actually, and I don't think you're going to like it." He nodded and urged his horse to pick up the pace, they weren't where he wanted them to be when he broke the news quite yet.

Alexandra panicked for a moment, thinking he might've finally found out her secret. It made sense to her that that's why he had decided to trust Robert, and she couldn't help herself but to say a quick prayer for her conjectures to be wrong. Taking a deep breath, the queen asked her horse to try and catch up with her husband.

It was so quiet, so peaceful, to Alex it was pure bliss. It was just them and the hums of the forest. "I really like it here." She commented, noticing a few new sounds surrounding them. "I had started to forget what true peace felt like." The brunette said, smiling at the sound of the birds and the water running. They were almost by the river.

Once they reached the crystalline waters of the river, Edmund stopped his horse and dismounted, allowing the animal to get some rest and water while he sat down in the grass by some rocks. Alex simply copied his actions and went to sit down next to him.

"First thing I want to say, is that you look beautiful." Edmund started talking once more, making Alex open her eyes really wide upon hearing the compliment.

Alex blushed. "Dear Aslan, is it that bad?"

"What?" Edmund said confused.

"What you have to tell me silly, is it that bad?" She knew him well enough to fall for his flattery that easily.

"That depends."

"On what?"

"Do you remember how to dance narnian music?"

Oh no, this couldn't be happening to her again. Now she understood why they had assigned specifically him to tell her, as she would have refused the person who was behind all of this for hours if necessary.

Tricking Alex had become the activity of the day.

The queen groaned. "Not another one!"

"I told you you wouldn't like it."

"What is it even for?" Alex crossed her arms stubbornly, she would put up a fight.

"You."

"Me?!" She said disconcerted. "Why?"

"Well, I don't know if you remember dear, but you just came back after years of being missing, that's something to be celebrated."

"But does she have to throw a ball?"

"I'm afraid she thinks it's absolutely necessary, and all of us agree."

"Yeah, everyone but me."

"It won't be that bad."

"It always is Ed, you know that to me, it always is. Especially now that I can't even have fun watching as the hordes of aristocrat women throw themselves at your feet."

"That was never funny!"

"You have to be kidding me, up until we got married that's what got me through all of those balls."

"Well, great to know you managed to survive thanks to my distress."

Alex giggled. "Your faces were always pretty funny." She couldn't help but let some more giggles escape her before remembering what they were discussing. "But seriously? Do we have to?"

"She's already started the decorations."

Alex covered her eyes with her hands briefly. "Kill me now."

The King couldn't help himself but to roll his eyes. "Don't be so dramatic Alex, we'll all be there."

That was exactly the point. They would all be there, not caring for a thing as they celebrated Alexandra's return, trying their best for the queen to do the same. It was the perfect opportunity for Nathan to attack them. But she knew there was nothing she could do now, once Susan started on one of her plans, there was no stopping her. It would be the Light Queen's responsibility to be extra alert during that evening, making sure her brother didn't dare to mess with the rest of her family.

"Fine. But I will not dance with anyone."

"That is something I would be ok with, but I'll let you discuss it with Sue." Edmund said, kind of glad that he could convince her to be okay with the idea of the ball.

But the calm moment that the two were sharing was taken from them in bare seconds, as thick clouds covered the sun that shone above them, making Alex groan.

"Not again." She whispered more to herself than for Ed to hear.

A few moments later it wasn't just the two of them anymore, but a third person had decided to interrupt their date.

"Dear sister of mine, what a pleasure to see you again!" Nathan said ignoring Edmund's presence as he always did.

Alexandra rolled her eyes. "What do you want?"

"Now now, is that a way to talk to your only brother?" he chastised her.

"I don't know if you remember, but I've gained a few siblings since I came here." She retorted, making him frown deeply. She knew exactly what buttons to hit to make him upset, the thing was, that he did too.

"I actually didn't come to see you, but that husband of yours." The brunette boy said finally looking at Edmund. "There's something I need to tell him." He taunted, knowing that Alex knew perfectly what he was talking about.

"I don't understand why you can't just leave us alone." The girl weakly said.

"I might, that is once they know all the truth about you, little sister." Nathan said nonchalantly.

The queen was trying really hard not to lose her composure, knowing that it was exactly that what her brother had come looking for, he was becoming desperate upon not being able to get the information he wanted from a distance, so he came to get it himself.

"They know me better than you do." She challenged.

"Is that so?" Alex's brother arched one of his eyebrows. "Do they know about your whole life before you came to Narnia? Do they know about your friends? Hell, do they know anything about Robert at all? Oh please do tell sister, do they know why you left them?"

Edmund wanted to intervene, he wanted to ask Nathan to leave them alone, to simply disappear as he had done all those years, but he knew better than to try to mess with Alex's brother in front of Alex. However, he was worried, as he saw how tense his wife had become upon hearing Nathan's last couple of sentences.

"Shut up Nathan, shut up now." Alexandra warned.

"Or what?" He challenged.

"Or I'll make you shut your damn mouth." The brunette was finally giving up to her darkest instincts, making her brother smile fully, knowing that he was very close to getting what he wanted. There was only one more thing he needed to say to make her lose control.

"Are you even planning to tell them at all that they have another-" But he couldn't finish his sentence because he was kicked in the chest by his sister, sending him flying backwards and crashing against a tree, making a horrible sound and startling Edmund, who wasn't expecting that reaction either, and surely wasn't used to see his wife moving that fast.

"I said, shut up." Alex voiced out loud, as Nathan recovered from the attack.

When the brunette boy looked up, and even when he was in pain, he couldn't help but smile. Her eyes were so dark they were almost black, she was on the brink of losing her stance. She just needed another little push, and he would accomplish his mission.

"I wouldn't do it if I were you." He heard another voice come from the trees behind him. And he didn't have to turn around to know it was his sister's guardian. "You aren't guaranteed to get what you want if she loses control, and you know that. Come on Nathan, you're reckless, but not stupid." The tigress advised, confusing Edmund, who couldn't take his eyes away from Alex, who stood petrified, with her eyes shut tightly, as well as her fists.

"It's not my fault she doesn't know how to embrace her power, all of it." He said as if it wasn't really a big deal.

The Hayward boy hated to admit it, but the tigress was right. She still had way too much control on herself, and now her backup had arrived. The completion of his task would have to wait a little longer. Their little encounter had been a good exercise to test her fragile boundaries.

Ninarika bared her teeth.

He smiled. "Farewell then sister of mine." Nathan said and then disappeared.

Nina rushed quickly to Alex's side. All the tension bubbling inside of the girl was reflected on the tigress, and it was truly distressing. She needed to act as fast as possible. They needed to.

"Edmund." The tigress got him out of his strange trance.

"Yes?" He said still a little dazed.

Nina hated herself a little for what she was to say next, but she knew it would be the fastest way to calm her mistress down. "I need your help."

Edmund was surprised too, but didn't question the tigress judgement, as it was clearly not the first time she had seen Alex in this state.

He just nodded.

"It's going to sound insolent and very forward coming from me, but we seriously don't have the time for you to question what I'll say, is that clear?" she said firmly, and even though the king didn't like receiving orders from others, and was definitely worried for whatever it was she would ask him to do next, he shook his head in agreement. "You need to kiss her."

And for the Pevensie boy, the time stopped for a few moments. He needed to what?

Nina knew he was debating with himself on what to do as she saw him blush profusely, he looked like a flustered tomato. She rolled her eyes and pressed on. "What part of we don't have time you didn't understand? She's your bloody wife! Just kiss her!" She said now impatient, still feeling anxious thanks to Alex's negative energies.

The tigress thought she would have to find another way to make her mistress come back from her dark hole when the Just King still didn't move, probably still debating on the right choice to make, but before she could yell at him to do what he was told, or to begin thinking on an alternative, Edmund put his hands on either side of Alex's face and placed his lips on top of hers.
