Chapter 6: Unfair Judgment
Spike stopped outside the Summers-Giles household and turned off his motorcycle. He lifted the backpack off the back of his bike handing it to Buffy. He leaned over whispering in her ear, "I'll be back tonight at 7 and we can take a walk in the garden."
As he was speaking, the front door opened, and there stood Joyce behind Giles. Giles looked angry, "Buffy, come inside dear."
Joyce spoke up louder, "You were dating someone for 3 months and never told us? And he wears leather and drives a motorcycle?"
Buffy frowned not leaving Spike's embrace, "I'm almost 17 mom. I can make my own decisions."
She turned towards Spike who whispered in her ear, "Best go with them pet. We will make it. I'll call you later."
Buffy felt Joyce's presence as Giles took her arm pulling her out of Spike's embrace, "Go upstairs young lady. We have much to talk about."
Buffy looked at her mom and then her step-dad yelling, "You can't tell me what to do."
Joyce frowned as she put a hand on her shoulder, "He can honey. He's technically your dad now and always will be. We both love you and care about you. We only want what's best. Now go upstairs like he said."
Buffy turned around glaring at her mom, "He's not my dad and you haven't played mom all summer. I love him!"
Joyce pointed to the door as she raised her voice, "Get inside now or you will be grounded for the rest of the school year."
Buffy tried to whine as she practically pleaded with her, "But mom."
Giles raised his voice and she knew he meant business, "Go upstairs. We can talk about it upstairs."
The tears fell from her eyes as she raced past her parents totally embarrassed as she ran upstairs slamming her door hard.
Meanwhile downstairs, Giles and Joyce were talking to Spike. "I don't want you seeing our daughter anymore Spike."
Spike rolled his eyes not impressed, "I love your daughter, sir. She loves me. I have done nothing wrong. We have enjoyed a beautiful summer together."
Giles glared at Spike, "I know your reputation young man."
Joyce put her hand on Giles's shoulder, "Perhaps we should hear him out."
Spike studied Joyce for a moment thinking that perhaps this lady is redeemable and not all bad but Giles shook his head, "You don't hear what I hear at school. He's a player and strings girls along."
Spike shouted his reply so loud he swore his ears bleed, "I loved Drusilla and she left me! Harmony was a mistake but she wasn't any more attached than I was!"
Giles shook his head, "I don't want my daughter with the likes of you. You have a kid somewhere that you don't even take care of! Now please leave."
Spike took one long look at Joyce and then Giles and then glanced up the stairs letting out a sigh. He knew nothing he would say would fix their opinion of him. He shook his head as he walked out of the door and stood at the tree outside Buffy's window.
That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
Spike threw a few rocks at Buffy's window and let out another sigh as he climbed the window to her window.
She opened the window gesturing him inside, "It's horrible. He doesn't want us to see each other anymore. It won't stop us will it?"
Spike sighed as he took Buffy into his arms. He didn't know Giles would respond that way. He knew Giles had a rep for being tough but that was harsh. The git wasn't even the girl's real father after all. He wiped her tears away as he heard Buffy's door swing open.
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
"I said leave this house. I want you to stay away from my daughter. She's better than you and deserves more than you can give her. I want a good life for her and I do not think you can give that to her. Now get the hell out!"
Buffy clung to Spike as he stepped away from her and started down the stairs.
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you please don't go, and I said
Buffy cried hard watching her father escort Spike out of her house. She was dying inside and knew at school, her step-dad could keep him away from her as well. It seemed hopeless.
She collapsed at the bottom of the stairs clinging to her step dad's legs, "Please don't do this. I love him. He's perfect for me and treats me so well. Please stop!"
Spike's eyes filled with tears as he looked back at Buffy and Buffy turned towards him pleading with him, "Please don't go. I need you. Please I love you. Dad isn't that enough? Shouldn't love be enough?"
Giles shook his head as he closed the door locking Spike out, "Someday you will understand and forgive me child. For now, you must trust me. He's bad news and will only ruin your life. You aren't ready for something so serious in your life. You have your own life ahead of you. You aren't pregnant yet are you?" '
Buffy glared at her step-dad as she yelled out behind her, "No I'm not but I almost wish I was. At least then you couldn't stop me from seeing him."
She stormed her way up the stairs slamming her door shut with a lock. She was desperate and hurt so badly. Never before had she felt like this. She quietly opened her window climbing down the tree outside her window.
She paused at the living room window hearing her mom, "Don't you think you were too harsh Giles? I mean she did seem so in love."
Giles only shook his head, "No Joyce hon, he's a bad boy. He refuses to conform to the school rules at school. You heard him yourself, he used Harmony and Dru wasn't much better. She was so messed up when she left I swear she was crazy. He made her that way. Plus she has a kid. She wouldn't admit who was the father but I know it was Spike. Joyce this is best for Buffy. Trust me."
Joyce leaned her head against Giles's shoulder and Buffy knew it was hopeless. She took off running into the night to find Spike.
Just outside the garden, she noticed Spike's motorcycle. She quietly stepped into the garden to see Spike sitting down in the center of the path talking to himself, "I didn't use Harmony. I just was hurt over Drusilla leaving me and didn't know what love really was."
She noticed he was petting his dog, Riley so he wasn't quite talking to himself. "I always treated her right. I'm not a big bad or anything like that. I mean, I love the bint. She's something else isn't she mate?"
The dog didn't say anything only lean his big brown head on Spike's lap as Spike continued to rub his head, "I don't know what to do, Riley. I'm not sure if I should disappear out of her life and make it better or try harder. Say I do ruin it? I've never been good and bloody hell, I couldn't even make Dru happy for the life of me. She ran off with Angel and got herself pregnant. Of course the bloke left her alone to deal with the kid. I offered all nice like to care for her and the nibblet but she wouldn't hear of it. She didn't love me, you see. Not like Buffy loves me."
Spike sighed, "I think I should go live with my grandparents. If I go back to England, Buffy can find someone better for her, someone with more style and who will follow the rules. Don't you agree, Riley?"
Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone
Buffy gasped realizing this was her chance. She raced down the garden path flinging herself at him almost knocking him over still begging him, "Don't leave me Spike. We will get through this. Just take me away somewhere. Take me somewhere we can be alone. Where no one will find us. We can go anywhere do anything."
Spike shook his head as he kissed away her tears, "Buffy luv, think about this. I have been. You're not even 17. You're barely in your junior year. You have two years of high school left and then you hopefully will go off to college. This isn't the time to run away and be together. This is the time for you to concentrate on your studies. Perhaps Giles is right, you aren't ready for something so big and serious in your life."
