Chapter 07: Mr. Penguin and Operation: Match Maker!

Edit Authors Note: I found some mistakes in my past chapters, so I will be going back to tweak (just one or two). This chapter changed slightly where I never gave the digimon themselves their own moments. I also added some dialogue between Cam and Agumon for laughs.

Edit Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon. I own Lindy, Ladydevimon concept, Bowmon, Tiguramon, Mr. Penguin, Cam, Ally, PJ, Marianna, Luke, and Lisa.

"So, how are you Ian?" Lindy asked on the phone and stared at her clock. It was one in the morning and she was just heading to bed. In Japan, it was the afternoon. Over the past month, it was habit that the two would talk on the phone around this time. It wasn't the same as being there, but Lindy felt better hearing her boyfriend's voice. Ian didn't really talk about his strange dream but instead, he told her about life, the twins, even giving Terriermon a swirly for pissing him off. Lindy laughed for awhile about that.

"Okay, I guess. Kinda miss ya."

Lindy laughed, "Kinda?"

"Yeah-just kinda."

"Well think of it this way, Impy. Only a little bit more time until I come visit you guys."

"And I'm gunna be lookin' forward to this?" the reply came. Lindy was about to retort when Ian shouted a curse. "Where's my damn guitar? MAKO!"

Two voices in the background were heard and Lindy made a confused face. Switching the phone with her gloved fingers, she rested on her bed and sighed. She had to wait another minute until Ian came back to the phone, grumbling.

"He's actin' like some love sick puppy-I'm tellin' ya. First, he starts goin' in his room and writes Suzie on his skateboard. Now, he's takin' my stuff seein' if she likes the bad boy type. Hah, only I can pull that!"

"Aw, he likes Suzie! Go easy on him." Lindy said. "I'm not surprised-he's trying to impress her! Wonder how Ai is taking this."

Ai and Mako were together for as long as they could remember. Something that deep of a bond could cause problems when they grew older and Lindy knew that. It seemed like Mako was starting to develop his own likes and dislikes. For a little while, Lindy had known Mako liked Suzie and it wasn't surprising. She was very pretty, and they knew each other since they were little.

A scream from the phone told Lindy her answer since it belonged to Ai. Ian voice dripped with concern and a little bit of fear.

"Toots, ya gotta get back here ASAP. Their actin' weird now! Ai just friggin' punched the wall and it broke!"

"What did you say?"

"Nothing! All I did was ask what was up with her brother. Now, I'm gunna get blamed!"

"What was she screaming about?" Lindy asked with concern.

"Uh, somethin' about Suzie and Mako. And ya not gunna believe this-but she told me off! Me! I'm insulted."

"Uh, Impy..." Lindy began softly. She had a pretty good idea what was happening with Ai and Mako. "Stay away from Ai as much as possible and Mako just... leave him alone too."

"What are ya talkin' about?" The voice on the other line sounded dead serious and Lindy sighed.

"I'll explain it to you when I get home okay? I'm going to go now, I love you."

"I hate you too." He replied dryly and hung up.

Over the past few weeks things were calm for the Canadian Tamers. Since the Bio-Emerges of Ogremon and Fugamon, no other Bio-Emerges had appeared in either Japan or Canada. Homework was a pain but so far, no one was failing or falling behind. In fact Lindy was passing with flying colors! Maybe she had chosen the right courses she mused one class as she was handed back a test with a perfect score and an essay with a eighty five percent. Even in her cousin's class she was doing well-however Lisa was a huge help for that. The young woman took very good notes.

Lisa and Lindy didn't talk much outside of class. Often, the brunette woman was busy baking, studying, running, or involved with some club at campus. She was a busy bee, that's for sure. Lindy couldn't really get involved with any extra-circular activity because of her curse. One wrong move, and everyone would find out her secret. It bummed her out.

One night during midterms, the group decided they earned a break and decided to go to a bar. Lindy had a report to do in social sciences, so she offered to stay behind to look after the digimon and get her homework done. Although, the hybrid had other reasons as well.

When the door closed, the dark blue imp turned to the other digimon and smirked.

"Okay what's the juicy gossip on everyone?"

This became very common for the group. Various love triangles, relationships, and drama was passed through the digimon and they relayed it to Lindy.

"Marianna and Luke are fine." Bakemon said floating around while Tiguramon nodded in agreement. The couple were happy to be living together, and frequently invited Lindy over to hang out. Lindy and Marianna were happy to be hanging out again after so long. The two would talk about their relationships, what the past four years brought for them, and even Marianna asking what it was like being a digimon.

"It felt weird at first." Lindy admitted blushing. "But after awhile, it just becomes a part of you-like it was always there. To be honest, I would just want to be able to control this curse someday. Changing into my other forms, it feels amazing-and the flying! Oh, I love flying! Marianna-it's everything I dreamed of!"

Marianna made Lindy promise to take her out flying sometime. Lindy agreed as soon as she could figure out how to change into Lindenmon-her mega form.

"It's like I can't remember how to do it. Even with Hopemon-I find it extremely difficult to change."

Back in Cam's apartment, Lindy looked at Kunemon and Gazimon for their reports.

"PJ still is obsessed with Katrina." Kunemon frowned and sighed sadly while Gazimon rose an eyebrow.

"Ally isn't really into anyone in our group. She sometimes brings in other guys into the apartment but I don't think she's into a serious relationship..."

That wasn't surprising. Ally was the wild one of the group.

Agumon spoke next, "Well, Cam likes this girl named Lisa Rose-"

"Woah, back up Agumon." Linds cried. Lisa Rose? The girl next door? Wow, talk about small world.

"Yea, he invited her also to go out with them too." Agumon replied. "But I think he goes better with Katrina. I don't think Lisa is a big fan of digimon."

"Does she know about you guys?"

"No." Agumon replied. "Cam promised the group not to talk about it-he doesn't want to scare her away."

"Katrina still likes Cam. She's too scared to do anything." Whispered Bowmon quietly, floating beside Calumon who was confused at the conversation. He perked up his ears.

"Are we playing matchmaker?"

"Not exactly, Calumon. We're more like giving people a shove. Okay. Operation Katrina and Cam is starting." Lindy smiled showing her white fangs. "We're going to need lots of paper and Bakemon."

"What do you need me for?" Bakemon asked flicking through the T.V. He was looking for his favourite show: The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Marianna got him totally addicted to it.

"You can go through walls! Go into Katrina's room and pick up something with her writing. Bring it back and I can copy her and Cam's hand writing." Lindy shouted one final warning as he phased through a wall. "And don't get caught!"

"Yeah, yeah."

Lindy turned to Agumon.

"Got something of Cam's that he writes?"

"Yeah, no problem." Agumon fetched a few essays that Cam wrote in pen.

Suddenly, the lights flicked off and everyone screamed. The power must have switched off Lindy thought as she flicked a flame with her hand. Mr. Penguin warned that he was messing with some wires and the lights might flicker on and off, but he never said the power was going to be down!

"I forgot you can do that." Agumon said. Lindy grinned. She sent the flame outwards, letting it float in the middle of the room careful not to touch anything. It looked pretty, as it flickered. Over the years, Lindy had gotten pretty good at controlling her fire powers. Not as good as Impmon, but enough to look cool.

"I'm going to need pen and paper-lots of paper since I only got three fingers."

"So?" Tiguramon asked turning to the hybrid who rolled her eyes and showed her imp hands. Three fingers were on each hand.

"You try going from writing with five fingers to three-it isn't really easy."

Bakemon floated out of Katrina's room carrying a sheet of paper and put it with Cam's. That was the last one he thought. Slowly, he turned the bend and looked around. The power was out but he could still see clearly. The ghost gave a glow and stuck out like a sore thumb. He had to be careful or someone was going to see him.

Luck did not hear Bakemon's plea as across the hall was "Mr. Penguin". He was waddling over to Bakemon, curious what the white floating thing was. Bakemon went through the wall closest to him. Luckily, it was the room where the other digimon and Lindy were. As he zoomed through, he heard a gasp and a yell.

"Digimon! Here in my apartment? I don't think so!" the footsteps faded and the ghost digimon sighed a breath of relief. Mr. Penguin was gone at least. Floating over to the digimon, they jumped at his appearance.

"That fat guy saw me."

"I told you not to get caught!" Lindy scolded but then sighed. "It's okay, no harm done really. He's not knocking on the door. Did you get them?"

"Yep. Here ya go! Hang on-what happened to the TV?"

"Powers out." Agumon replied. Bakemon whined.

"Veronica was going to find out why Chrissy was cheating on her husband! Now, what am I going to do?"

"Bakemon, even I think Real Housewives is trash T.V." Lindy clicked her pen and got on her stomach. She needed to do this very carefully. She kept the flame close to her. Cam's writing was easy but it was Katrina that kept making her screw up. She flicked the final 'a' and smirked.

"Perfect." Lindy put them in the envelopes and told Bakemon to deliver the letters. Cam's letter was for Katrina and Katrina's was for Cam. The ghost digimon nodded and left again.

"What are the letters about?" Tiguramon asked while Lindy stretched. She wanted to go outside and wander but promised she would hang out with the digimon tonight.

"On Cam's and Katrina's letters, each are from the other saying that they want to have dinner at Cesario's. Now, I'm going to be leaving the night this happens so I need you guys to make sure this goes down perfectly. Oh, that reminds me-Calumon you can stay here if you like. I made plans so you can live with Katrina and Bowmon."

Calumon floated around with Bowmon shouting 'victory' and held Bowmon's ribbons. The two were very close now and Lindy honestly had no idea how she would had kept a hyperactive digimon calm on a day's flight to Japan. He would've drove everyone nuts. Besides, Jeri was happy that Calumon was adjusting to Canada very well.

The scene was enjoyed momentarily as a loud knock came from the door. Bowmon went over to the peephole and squeaked. She floated behind Calumon who shrunk his ears and looked afraid.

"Open up! It's the land lord! I'm checking to see if there are any digimon around." The gruff voice announced. It was Mr. Penguin. Everyone paled.

"Hide." Lindy whispered.

All the digimon scrambled around the apartment for a hiding spot. Bowmon and Calumon hid in one of the cabinets beside the T.V. Tiguramon hid in the closet, along with Agumon. Kunemon hid under the covers while Gazimon dove for the dirty laundry basket. Lindy looked from room to room and finally dove for under the bed as a last resort. Thankfully, it was dark and she could blend in.

The door opened with a loud creak and everything was quiet. Then, she heard loud footsteps, booming in the living room...then the kitchen...and then the bedroom. She nearly screamed when she heard a gun being cocked. This landlord was nuts! Did he really have a loaded gun!? Lindy didn't dare look.

"Come out, come out where ever you are." Mr. Penguin sang, waddling around, nothing was out of place and he couldn't hear any digimon. When he left the bedroom, Lindy scrambled out and opened the bedroom window, carefully. She waved over Tiguramon and Agumon who scrambled outside. The jump wasn't too high and they made it to the ground easily. Gazimon scrambled out of the laundry basket and picked up Kunemon from the bed sheets. They escaped too. Lindy heard a clatter like something dropped from the other room.

"Oh, no." she whispered. Could he have found Calumon and Bowmon? She crept silently to the 'living room' and saw the two digimon whimpering behind a wall. Mr Penguin disappeared into the kitchen. The two digimon saw Lindy and sighed in relief. She ran towards them on all fours and picked them up. The dark blue Impmon was shocked at how much Calumon weighed. "You have to cut on those cream puffs." Lindy whispered at the pouting in-training.

"You have to cut on the living." A voice said behind them. They spun around and screamed. There was 'Mr. Penguin' with his gun ready and grinning evilly. Lindy put down Calumon and narrowed her eyes. That does it! She suddenly glowed a bright light and there Ladydevimon emerged, holding the gun in one claw, and picking up 'Mr. Penguin' with the other. She slammed him into the wall. Calumon and Bowmon ran away, whimpering at the sight of the angry hybrid.

"Now, I suggest you keep quiet about us. We haven't done anything wrong and it would be a shame I have to use my power for not good things. Leave us alone, and I won't have to use my whip on you. Sound good?"

"Y-ye-yes. Go-got-got it." He was set down and took one glance at the champion demon digimon, before screaming and running out of the apartment.

"GAH!" he cried and waddled out. Ladydevimon folded her arms and gave a growl as he left. When the door closed, she turned to Calumon and Bowmon.

"You two alright?" Calumon jumped up and hugged Ladydevimon.

"Thank you Lindy! Bowmon and I were so scared!" She laughed, hugging Calumon.

"Mr. Penguin will never hurt you guys while I'm around. Count on me for that." she waved an arm out of the bedroom window, and got all the digimon to climb back into the apartment.

"I made him leave." Ladydevimon said smiling. Once inside, the group sat back on the living room floor. Agumon asked if Mr. Penguin was going to come back.

"Nope. I think I made him forever scared of this apartment." Everyone laughed.

Expectantly, they expected Ladydevimon to change back into her rookie form. Instead, she simply adjusted her skirt, sat down awkwardly on the couch and picked up her homework. She folded her wings so nothing would get knocked over.

"You can't De-Digivolve, can you?" Tiguramon asked. Everyone stared at the champion hybrid.

"Yea, I'm still having a problem with that..." Ladydevimon rubbed the back of her head, embarrassed. "You guys wanna play a board game? I'm sure Cam has some kind of board games here, until the power comes back on."

"Sure." They all replied as Bakemon came in. He just finished delivering the letters to Cam and Katrina.

"Hey, did I miss anything?"

A hour later, Cam unlocked the door and rose an eyebrow at the scene before him. There was Ladydevimon, Tiguramon, and Agumon playing twister on the living room floor. Ladydevimon was balancing her hands and legs on the red circles, tangled with Agumon. Tiguramon was about to fall over from her awkward position on the blue and yellow squares. Bowmon, Kunemon, Gazimon and Bakemon were all watching Calumon spin the spinner.

"Okay, Tiguramon! Left paw on red!" Calumon called out.

"Which paw?" Tiguramon cried.

"Uh, your right?" Calumon looked at the spinner.

"Hey guys..." Cam announced walking in with everyone else. Startled, Ladydevimon cried out and fell over, taking down Agumon with her. It seemed that Tiguramon had won the round this time.

"Hey Cam." Ladydevimon blushed and smoothed down her skirt. Agumon fist bumped Cam and asked how his night out was.

"Good, met up with Lisa. I think I got her hooked on me." The Tamer gave a goofy grin to which Agumon rolled his eyes.

"That's just great."

"Tiguramon, Bakemon-let's go!" Marianna called out, holding her boyfriend steady. He looked plastered drunk. "Luke drank too much and I got to get him in bed." The blue tiger digimon and white ghost left the apartment.

"...Hey, can I draw on his face?"

"No, Bakemon!"

Ally and PJ picked up their respective digimon, giving a glance at Ladydevimon.

"Rough night?"

"You could say that, Ally." Ladydevimon stretched and suddenly changed back into Lindy. She breathed a sigh of relief.

"Finally. I hate not being able to De-Digivolve."

Everyone else left except for Calumon, Lindy, Cam and Agumon. Cam looked at Lindy, while rubbing the back of his head blushing.

"Listen, Lindy. Lisa says you live next door to her, right?"

"Yeah..."

"So, can you get some info on her? Like her favourite band and color or flowers even! I really want to impress this chick."

"Uh, sure. I'll look into that." Lindy yawned. "Listen, I got tons of stuff to do tomorrow so I got to get some rest. Almost a few days to go until I head back to Japan." Lindy picked up Calumon, who was now fast asleep.

"Looking forward to seeing your boyfriend?" Teased Cam. Lindy rolled her eyes.

"And my Tamers too. I miss them more."

"Oh! Don't forget to bring us back some of that crazy Japanese candy!" Agumon reminded the hybrid. "I heard the're different flavours of Kit Kats they make!"

Lindy smiled. "I'll remember just for you, Agumon."

The two departed back to their apartment. Cam stretched while he and Agumon settled on the couch. While the orange digimon was grabbing some water, Cam saw the fallen gun that Mr. Penguin dropped on the floor. No one had thought to get rid of it.

"Agumon?"

"Yeah?"

"Why is there a gun on the floor?"

"Crazy shit happened. Mr. Penguin tried to come in here with a gun but Ladydevimon scared him away. Cool?"

"...Okay, cool."
