Chapter 08: Everlong

Authors Note: I dont own Savin' Me by Nickelback.

Edit Authors Note: Alright, alright, I changed the song Ian sang. Not that it was a horrible song (the lyrics fit him perfectly). But, there is something about these lyrics that speak about everyone. How everything is perfect and shit is about to hit the fan. It can be taken so many different ways. For Ian, its a plea for Lindy to stay, for Jeri it's for her and Takato to be safe, for Lindy it's a prayer to help her control the curse and it can go on. It's a simple song and you should really, really check it out.

Oh, and for those who think Mako having a crush on Suzie as a ten year old is strange, just know that it's common for children to develop their stronger crushes around ten. So, I'm allowing this to slide. However, I'm starting the sub plot of Takato and Jeri here. As well, Rika is going to get an admirer. Can you guess who?

Disclaimer: So the song is Everlong by Foo Fighters. I do not own this song and please go check it out if you never heard of it. The original one first, then a cover by Boyce Avenue-it's so good.

Finally, it was here. The day had arrived. Lindy was going back to Japan for a week. Not long, but it was better than nothing. She packed a small suitcase since half of her stuff was still there and when she opened the door her sea green eyes went wide at the people in front of her. The Canadian Tamers with their digimon all stood there, prepared to say goodbye.

"It's not like I'm staying there." Lindy laughed as Marianna and the other girls hugged her. The moment was warm and fun as she promised Calumon to give Jeri lots of hugs. Calumon was only sad for a second until he and Bowmon danced around the hallway, content with being roommates for a week. Lindy winked at Katrina,

"Have fun, he likes cream puffs."

When the plane took off, all Lindy could think about was going back to the land where her Tamers and boyfriend were awaiting her arrival.

Ian was happy. That's right, happy. Today, he was going to finally see Lindy again. He missed her and things were so boring without her. He didn't know why, but Ian guessed it was part of being in love. When he woke up, he got dressed quickly and went out to pick up his girlfriend at the airport. Hoping on Behemoth he muttered,

"Let's go."

The hybrid drove to the airport and the blond teen could clearly see the air planes coming and going. Nerves were building up within him, eager to see her again. It had been far too long. Entering the place, he looked around and couldn't believe his luck of finding her so quick. There she was strolling along with a small suit case in tow. Ian was more shocked she was only carrying one suitcase with her. He stood there, crossed arms and smirking until she noticed he was in front of her.

"IAN!" Lindy screamed and rushed up to him. She practically jumped on him, and he swung her around into a tight hug. They both laughed.

"Missed me that much, toots?"

"Hell yeah!" she cried and kissed him passionately. It took him off guard, but he gladly returned it. Finally breaking apart, he blushed.

"Yea well…I kinda missed ya too."

Laughing, Lindy rolled her suitcase along side and they walked to the parking lot. She looked oddly at him. Something was different about him. Was it the hair? She did notice that the hair was shorter than before. It looked good.

"Did you do something with your hair? It looks nice." Ian coughed and nodded.

"Yeah, uh, I cut it." He decided to thank Mako and Ai later, they were right about a few things. Lindy and Ian came to where Behemoth was awaiting them patiently. Lindy knelt down to the bike.

"And how is my favourite demonic bike in the world doing?" Lindy asked.

Behemoth purred in response. At first, Lindy was scared of the bike, after learning it could possess anyone it pleased except for its master, Ian (or Beelzemon). However, Ian managed to get her on the bike, and took her out for a few rides, and she loved it.

Lindy got on the bike, and wrapped her arms around Ian tightly.

"You still don't have helmets. No wonder the cops are always chasing you." Lindy muttered and the hybrid smirked.

"Where's the fun in havin' helmets?"

"The fun is being safe." She replied dryly and he scoffed.

"Helmets are for wimps." He fired back and told Behemoth to go back home. The ride was quiet since they couldn't talk over the loud roar of the engine.

Finally upon arriving at a familiar house, Lindy practically sprinted to the door and threw it open dramatically.

"I'M HOME!" Lindy yelled, flipping some of her blonde hair back and grinning widely. It looked the same as usual. In front of her was the kitchen, to her left was the living room where the same flat screen T.V sat, and she could barely see the stairs leading downstairs.

Suddenly, two sets of dark chocolate brown eyes were now staring back at her. She was tackled by Ai and Mako who were all over her, grinning and laughing.

"We missed you!" cried Ai.

"It's been so boring without you, Lindy!" Mako agreed. "Ian's been a grouch."

Mako was flicked on the back of his head by Ian who walked in with Lindy's suitcase.

"I've not been a grouch, ya two been drivin' me up the wall."

"Where's mom and dad?" Lindy wondered out loud, but she suddenly saw the two appearing from the stairs and smiled at her.

"Lindy. It's good to see you!" Yuki cried, hugging the blonde teen deeply. Lindy nestled into the hug and gazed her eyes upon Tai who asked how school was going.

"It's amazing there, dad. I'm doing really well on all of my courses. And you wouldn't guess who one of my teachers is."

"Who?" Ai and Mako cried and she smiled.

"My cousin, Kari Rose, she's a Tamer too." Kari's once haunting face was changed into a kind and warm expression that made Lindy feel more comfortable. "She changed so much."

"Did you ask about your family?" Yuki asked softly. Lindy nodded.

"Why did ya ask? Their assholes for ditchin' ya. End of story." Ian chimed in leaning against the door frame. Tai frowned.

"Language, Ian."

"The munchkins already know half of the stuff I say. They even swear more than me." He smirked at his Tamers, who grinned innocently. Lindy gave a sad smile.

"My other parents adopted another daughter around my age shortly after. I guess they moved on." Lindy tucked a piece of hair behind her ear looking sad for a moment, but snapped back. "But, I got the best mom and dad right here." Lindy smiled and hugged Yuki and Tai again. "And my brats." she ruffled the twin's heads, lovingly. They pretended to be grossed out but in fact-they missed Lindy so much. It just wasn't the same without her.

Lindy, Ai, Mako, and Ian went out and walked the streets of Shinjuku after Lindy changed out of her 'airplane' clothes and into some jeans and her favourite Vanessa Lamb leather jacket that was dark blue. She retold the twins some of the things going on such as the bar fight where Kunemon and Gazimon digivolved or Mr. Penguin.

"Who's Mr. Penguin?" Ai asked staring at Lindy who laughed.

"He's our landlord. Just a grouchy guy who nearly shot me with a shotgun." Ian suddenly grabbed Lindy shoulders and spun her around.

"HE WHAT?!" He growled. "Did he hurt ya? I swear to God if he did I'll-"

"Calm down Ian." Lindy cried and poked him in the ribs. "Ladydevimon gave him a good message. No one else was hurt. It's strange all those Bio-Emerges though, and with that Armageddemon who attacked the internet here..."

"It hasn't been crazy though here, Lindy! We haven't seen a digimon since." Mako assured the hybrid. The twins wanted to tell Lindy about Ian and his strange dream, but refrained. Maybe Ian would tell her when they were alone. While walking and having the twins up front, Lindy pulled Ian back.

"How are they doing?"

Ian made a face.

"Ai only punched the wall and broke some of the fence, while Mako now progressed to talking to himself to a mirror." He snickered. Lindy widened her eyes when he mentioned Ai.

"I'm blaming you for her violence." Ian punched Lindy lightly in the shoulder.

"I'm blamin' ya for Mako's insanity."

"What are you guys talking about?" Ai peered suspiciously at the couple who shrugged.

"How we are going to spend our days loving each other." Lindy said her voice coated dreamily. She smirked as the twins gagged and turned around. Ian gagged also.

"Can ya not make the excuses so mushy?" He whined as Lindy laughed and pecked his cheek.

"Feeling better?"

"A little." He grinned.

The group were passing Wamaki Bar and to Ian's dismay, Lindy dragged him inside.

"I want to say hi to Hiro!"

"Aw, it's my day off though. Can't I get a break for once in my life?" Ian cried but Lindy didn't seemed to be listening as she went into the bar and easily found Hiro at the bar with the owner.

"Hey cutie!" she said and covered Hiro's eyes. He gasped and spun around.

"Well if it isn't my princess?" He teased and gave her a gracious bow. Lindy giggled and blushed. Ai and Mako stood by curious about the bar where Ian worked at. It was a good thing it was an all ages one in the day time or else Yuki would have killed the hybrids.

"Hands off Hiro, ya slime ball." Ian called crossing his arms leaning back. Hiro grinned. They went to the back room and Lindy asked Hiro how he was.

"Different day, same crazy half digimon I have to deal with." Hiro grinned. "It's a good thing you're here to keep him in line."

"Oh trust me, Hiro." Lindy looked to Ian. "I can't even keep this one in line, sometimes."

"Damn straight you can't-I'm unstoppable." Ian smirked. Lindy kept looking at her phone and brightened when she received a text. She nodded to Hiro and peaked out to the bar.

"Oh, by the way, you're up." Hiro picked up Ian's acoustic guitar. He gave a dirty look at the dark haired man.

"I got the day off, ya moron!"

"But, you got a request!"

"By who?"

"Look out."

Ian quietly peaked out from the backstage and he hung his mouth open at what he saw. Jeri, Takato, Rika, Kazu, Kenta, Suzie, and the twins were all there and the 'wonder morons' were holding a sign saying "Ian play please!" with hearts all over it. Ian spun around to his girlfriend.

"Oh, look. Everyone is here! What a coincidence." Lindy said in a very innocent voice. Ian looked to her phone and back outside where Jeri had her phone out too.

"I'm gunna kill ya for this one, toots."

Lindy shoved the guitar into Ian with a bright smile.

"Kill me later, I want to hear you sing."

"How much am I gettin' paid for doin' this?" Ian turned to Hiro. Hiro looked unsure but after a nudge from Lindy, he spoke.

"Ya get a whole week off and still get paid." Lindy grinned and Ian rose his eyebrows.

"Ya kiddin' me? Seriously?"

"You're very lucky you have a convincing girlfriend."

"I suppose I could..." Ian looked unsure but he stupidly turned to see Lindy's eyes. "Gah, stop it with the eyes! I'll go! Seesh. You owe me."

"I know, go!" She shoved him out with his black guitar at hand. He slowly walked to the staged and growled at the Tamers who were now whistling and grinning widely. Mainly Kazu, Kenta, Takato, Jeri were cheering. Rika looked confused, and Suzie looked amused. The twins were excited.

Ian was thankful that the lights were glaring into his eyes. That way he couldn't see anyone and he preferred it that way. He looked to Lindy and felt the nervousness melt away. He knew he was good and picked his song.

"Can he even actually sing?" Kazu asked, snorting. "He must have a big ego."

"Lindy told me he could." Jeri replied, giving small wave to Ian. Takato looked interested.

Gripping his pick lightly, the hybrid strummed the guitar in short strums. Everlong was a simple song to play, and an even simpler song to sing. For that reason, Ian picked it. A few seconds into the guitar, and Ian felt a sense of calming take over him. Right now, it was just him and the music. He finally opened his mouth to sing.

Hello, I've waited here for you. Everlong...

No one anticipated the voice that came from Ian. It was beautiful. Rika unfolded her arms and looked at him with a slack jaw expression.

"He can sing..."

Tonight, I throw myself into. And out of the red. Out of her head, she sang...

Everyone was stunned except for Lindy who grinned widely. Secretly, she thought Ian's voice was the most sexiest thing and if he wanted to, he could make her do anything with his voice. But, she didn't admit that to him-his ego would inflate to the size of the world and she would never hear the end of it. Ai and Mako were proud that their digimon could sing and play the guitar so well. And he even had the guts to do it on stage! That was pretty neat they both thought. They swayed to the song.

Come down, and waste away with me. Down with me...

No one could believe what they were seeing. The owner even stopped working at the bar to watch Ian sing. Hiro noticed a red haired girl standing by the stage with a smile on her face. He nudged Lindy.

"Hey, who's that?"

Lindy took a second to figure out who Hiro was referring to.

"Oh, that's Rika. She's a Tamer."

"Ah."

Lindy did a double take and looked at Hiro who didn't take his eyes off her. She sighed. He was going to get hurt from her. A quiet, awkward guy like him versus a spitfire like her...it was a recipe for disaster. Still, it would be nice for Rika to go out with someone. She won't make a move on Ryo, so it couldn't hurt...

And I wonder, If everything could ever feel this real forever.
If anything could ever be this good again.
The only thing I'll ever ask of you...

When the song ended, everyone in the bar clapped and cheered loudly. Wolf whistles were pronounced and Ian got up and waved his hand lazily in the air and left the stage. Blushing, he saw Lindy looking ecstatic.

"You were suppose to bow." Hiro pointed out. Ian shrugged.

"Bah, they should be grateful they even got a performance. I was nice today for once."

"Only because your precious snuggle bug was here." Hiro replied snickering and Lindy made a face.

"Ew, no nicknames please. Toots is enough for me."

Lindy went out to meet the Tamers. She hugged Jeri, who was eager to know how Calumon was doing in Canada.

"He loves it there! He met some new friends, too. He's living with Katrina and Bowmon. They're good for him."

"It's weird there are a whole other group of Tamers in Canada. I know Takato told me what they were like..." Jeri gave a laugh. Lindy explained that they weren't complete party animals...just on occasions. Hiro stood behind Lindy, coughing. Lindy jumped.

"Oh, sorry Hiro. Jeri, Rika-this is Hiro- he works here too and plays the drums. Hiro, this is Jeri and Rika."

"Nice to meet you too." Hiro said in a charming voice. Rika looked indifferent and Jeri smiled.

"You work with Ian?"

"Unfortunately. He's a little annoying until you get used to him. Can I treat you ladies to a drink?"

Jeri put a hand to her chest.

"I'm okay, but Rika would love one." Rika did a double take. Lindy grinned evilly.

"Yes, Rika would love a drink. She likes the peach stuff you guys have."

"Sure, coming right up." Hiro gazed at Rika's violet eyes for a split second and took off. The red head Tamer looked peeved.

"You two? Really?"

"He's just being nice, Rika." Lindy waved a hand innocently.

"Hey Suzie, how did you like the show?" Mako asked, sitting at a table in the bar with the pink haired girl.

"Ian was amazing! I never knew he could sing." Suzie looked pleasantly surprised. Mako laughed.

"He couldn't at first, but he got lessons from Hiro." He replied. "Do you want a drink?"

"Uh, soda please." She replied and he called over a waitress. She took the orders and they started to talk.

"So, Lindy likes it in Canada? That must bum you and Ai out." Suzie said smiling lightly but saw Mako's sad expression. She didn't really like him sad. It just wasn't his style.

"Lindy did come from there. Although, I don't see why she likes it there. It's so cold there."

"And full of moose." Suzie teased.

"And crazy people eating maple syrup."

The two laughed loudly, making fun of all the Canadian things that Lindy did.

"I got the part in the play by the way." Suzie changed the subject. Mako's brown eyes lit up as he congratulated the twelve year old for earning the leading role.

"The play is in about a month. I can get you guys tickets if you were interested in watching. We're not like the best but..." She offered smiling and thanked the waitress for giving her the drink. Mako paid.

"It's on me." He grinned and the two started to talk some more.

Meanwhile, Lindy was peaking at the two children at the table. Ai made a sound.

"Ugh, he's been so obsessed with her. It's pathetic." Lindy turned to Ai.

"I heard you've been punching some walls."

"Maybe, so?" Ai asked raising an eyebrow. Lindy knelt down.

"How about tomorrow we go get our hair and nails done okay? Just the two of us? I miss talking to you." Lindy had the idea to take Ai to a spa to calm her down. For a split second, it looked like Ai was going to say no.

"Okay, thanks Lindy." Ai looked a little suspicious but Lindy assured Ai it was just going to be the two of them.

Takato handed Jeri a drink.

"I got you something."

"Oh, thanks Takato. You didn't have to." she blushed. The two sat close to each other staring out at their friends all doing different things. Kazu and Kenta were trying-and failing miserably at picking up some girls in the corner. Rika and Hiro were talking and so far, Rika hadn't punched him yet. Lindy and Ai were off to the side chatting away and Mako and Suzie were at a table. Ian sat in the corner by himself.

"He still does that." Jeri said sadly. Takato looked confused.

"Who?"

"Impmon..." Jeri used his real name. The Tamer sighed.

"He isn't a social butterfly, Jer. He'll come around when he's ready."

"Did you know he hasn't told Lindy or the twins yet?" Jeri spun her straw in her drink. Takato looked shocked.

"Still? It's been years."

"I know..." Jeri let Takato give an assuring hug. "I'm okay."

"Just making sure, Jer. Hey, our anniversary is coming up within the week. What do you want to do?"

Jeri and Takato had been dating for almost two years within the next week. Last year, Takato tried making a really nice dinner at his place but burned the food, got yelled at by his mother. Guilmon tried to distract Jeri long enough for Takato to run to the supermarket for one of those premade meals. Easily, Jeri figured it out and appreciated the effort. This year, Takato wanted to be on the ball.

"Whatever you want, I always enjoy an adventure with you." Jeri kissed her boyfriend gently.

Mako talked to Suzie admiring how pretty she looked when sipping her drink. Everything she did was beautiful. When she walked, he would fall, when she talked, he would fumble with his words. He liked her for a long time, but seemed to act like a total dork when he was around her. Where was his charm he had? It just disappears when he's around her. The boy's thoughts felt all mushy and confused. His one side wanted him to ask her out and tell her how pretty she was but the other wanted to conceal it and keep it like it was his deepest, darkest secret.

"Mako? You there?" Suzie asked waving a hand over the boys face. The ten year old blinked and then grinned.

"Sorry, I just went off in my own world." He laughed lightly and took another quiet sip from his drink. His blush went down, but he still felt like his cheeks were on fire. His eyes couldn't stay out of Suzie's pink ones.

"So…what are you doing tomorrow?" Suzie suddenly asked, wrapping her pink hair around her pinkie finger. Mako glanced up suddenly. Did she want to go out with him? Shrugging, he tried to look casual-like Ian did when he was around Lindy.

"Nothing really. Why?"

Suzie suddenly looked happy. "Oh, I was just wondering if you…wanted to go out for a bite to eat-just the two of us?"

Did this just happen to Mako Ikkako Ramen? Did Suzie ask him out on a date? The brown haired kid wanted to jump on the table and scream in victory but he just gave a goofy grin.

"Yeah! I-I would love to! What time do you want me to pick you up?"

"How about six thirty? It's after my acting class. "

"Sounds good to me." Mako said. He noticed his partners were calling him-saying they had to head out. Mako finished his drink.

"Well, I gotta go. So, I'll see you tomorrow?"

"See you tomorrow, Mako." Suzie smiled and waved as Mako took a few steps back, waving-until he bumped into a chair and almost fell over. Luckily, Lindy caught him.

"You alright?" Lindy asked. Ian snickered.

"Oh this is rich. So, so rich." Mako frowned and punched the blond hybrid.

"You're supposed to be on my side."

"Aw, don't worry Mako. I think it's adorable you're going out with Suzie on a little date." Lindy said and Mako blushed.

"I'm not adorable, and it's a real date."

"No, Mako. You're cute as a doll!" Ai teased, earning a glare from her brother.

"Whatever sis."

"Mako!" Ai whined while he snickered back. Lindy and Ian only sighed at the siblings bickering. Well, that was short lived.

Katrina came into her apartment quietly. The group might have had a reading week, but it was so heavy with school work that they couldn't really enjoy it. Although, the thought was pushed to the back of her mind when she saw a letter on the nearby table where some more homework sat. Oh right, she forgot to open it.

Opening the letter, Katrina gasped as the handwriting looked oddly familiar.

Dear Katrina,

I was wondering if you wanted to meet me at Cesario's around eight o'clock for dinner on Friday. I wanted to tell you face to face but I thought this would be more romantic. I'll be waiting for you outside the Lapp Apartments. It's formal so dress your best, but then again you always dress beautifully.

Cam

P.S Leave the digimon. It will be just the two of us.

The raven haired woman read the letter over and over again. Was he really asking her out? It was a dream come true! She grinned widely and looked at the clock and nearly shrieked. It was already six! Quickly, she plucked Bowmon off and jumped into the shower. She had a date to get ready for!

Bowmon smiled to herself and floated over to Katrina's bed room. Going through the closet, she struggled but successfully got out a dazzling, red dress with a black underlining in it. The cuts were sleek and sexy and hugged Katrina perfectly. Bowmon waited for her Tamer to get out and look at the dress and thanked Bowmon. Her digimon did have good taste and helped Katrina get ready frequently.

"It's alright if you stay here ?"

Bowmon nodded and floated over the 'makeup station' where Katrina would apply her makeup. Not too much, just some cover up and blush. After applying some lip-gloss she looked over herself in the mirror. Her eyelashes were naturally thick and curly which was one of her beauty perks. Now if she only had a slightly more curvy body and a bigger bust…

"You look beautiful." whispered Bowmon. Katrina blushed.

"Thank you, Bowmon."

"Are you gunna play kissy face with that other guy?" Calumon cried bouncing around. Katrina giggled.

"Maybe if I'm lucky, Calumon. Be good you two, okay?"

"Okay!"

Cam read the letter again and again. Katrina sent this? He thought wildly and looked at the clock. It was seven. He should go just to be nice. Besides she was really kind, pretty, and understanding.

Cam's thoughts instantly went to Lisa-the girl he thought was drop dead beautiful. Maybe, he shouldn't.

"Going out, Cam?" Agumon asked.

"I dunno Augs..." Cam sighed. "I mean, Katrina is nice but..."

"Oh, just go out! She went to all that trouble writing the letter. You owe her that much." the orange digimon felt nervous. If he didn't take the bait then Lindy would have done all of this for nothing. Besides, he liked Katrina. At least she was a Tamer too.

"You'll be alright staying solo tonight?"

"I'll be fine. Now, put on that stupid ass face you get when you see a cute girl, and get ready." teased his partner. Cam rolled his eyes and made a funny face.

"This one?"

"No, the other one, smart ass."

"This one?" Cam made another stupid face and Agumon laughed.

"Just go!"

"Okay, okay, I'll get ready. You're lucky I like you."

"Yeah, I know."

Cam ventured through his closet after taking a quick shower and chose some nice dress pants and a black dress top. If Katrina was this into him, he might put in some effort. Putting on some fancy shoes, he nearly jumped at the time. Eight o'clock! Rushing out of the door while grabbing money and keys he shouted Agumon a quick goodbye.

"Hey Cam." Katrina smiled and glided over to the shocked Tamer. She looked beautiful! Her hair was done up with fancy curls gracefully framing her cheekbones. Her hazel eyes seemed to be bigger tonight-more doe like.

"You look amazing." He breathed and she blushed.

"You look really handsome too. Shall we?" Katrina gestured outside and the two set off to Cesario's, unnoticed that three digimon were following them. Bowmon, Calumon and Agumon quietly escaped from the windows and used the trees as their cover.

"I hope nothing ruins this." Agumon chimed worriedly.

Bowmon whispered back, "It will be perfect."

Calumon followed behind with curious wide eyes, wondering what was going to happen.

Authors Note: Next up, a new chapter. I'm starting the arc for Impmon's secret and some more from our bad guys. I didn't really get enough of them. I hope the edits are doing okay.
