Chapter 09: Your Best Nightmare
In a the dark throne room UltimateChaosmon growled,
"Send in the next digimon. For sure, this one will destroy the Tamers." It revealed his blood red eyes to the mega servant, who nodded numbly before leaving. "Soon, chaos will rule the worlds." He whispered and roared loudly with laughter that only a mad person could understand.
The servant deployed the next digimon and closed their eyes. Tonight, they will contact again...sending out their message.
Impmon glared at Lindy. Lindy glared at Impmon. The two never broke their concentration as Lindy slowly picked up a card.
"Ace of hearts."
The imp's emerald eyes narrowed, and his lips produced a grin.
"Go fish."
"Dammit." She cursed in English, and picked up another card. She dropped a couple that were already in her hand. Card games such as Go Fish were never her best game, since she could never get rid of the cards in her hand. As a matter of fact, any card game she sucked at.
"Ya still know the deal?" Impmon smirked and Lindy rolled her eyes.
"I still do not get why Yuki wants 'supervisors' for Mako and Suzie's date."
Lindy used two of her six fingers to make quotation marks but more cards slipped out of her hand. She ignored a snicker from Impmon. The two were in her bedroom, playing a round of Go Fish. Loser has to keep an eye on Mako and Suzie during their date and Yuki was firm about someone going.
"Yuki's got her reasons." He replied and grinned. "King of diamonds."
Lindy was about to give Impmon his winning card, but then heard feet pounding the stairs . Ai ran down, carrying a bundle of blankets with both of her arms with a beet red look on her face. She passed their bedroom and went into the laundry room muttering curses.
Looking at each other, Impmon and Lindy crept by the door of the laundry room and saw Ai putting the blankets- more like shoving them-into the machine. The two hybrids looked at her PJs. They were baby blue pants and a top but near her legs they both saw blood.
Impmon suddenly spoke up.
"What happened to ya?" Ai shrieked and turned around bright red. She looked humiliated and casted her eyes down.
"N-nothing, go away." The brown haired girl whimpered.
"Aw, Ai." Lindy looked at her carefully. "Are you bleeding down...well down in the general lower area?" Lindy knew exactly why Ai was acting so strange all of a sudden. Impmon stood there shell shocked and looked at Lindy.
"What's the matter with Ai? Is she sick or somethin'?" his tone became worried and intrusive. Lindy looked at him sharply like he had said something wrong.
"Can you leave us alone, Impmon? I have to talk to Ai…" she looked at the persistent Impmon. "Girl stuff, Impmon."
Impmon slowly walked out but not before giving Lindy and Ai one last final look.
"Please, Impmon?"
"Alright, alright I hear ya." He left.
Nervously, Lindy tugged on her bandana and took a deep breath. She hopped on the closed dryer machine and sat down, so she could face eye to eye with her one Tamer. She never knew she was going to give this talk.
"Ai, I want you to listen to me okay? I know why you have been acting so angry-"
"Am I going to die?" Ai asked fearfully. Lindy widened her eyes.
"Oh God, no! Ai, no!" Lindy hugged the girl. "Your just...maturing into a young woman that's all. I want you to listen to what I have to say no matter how embarrassing it is, okay? I know what your going through since I went through the same thing when I was nearly your age..."
It was about a half hour later when Impmon saw Lindy remerge from the laundry room with Ai. She had an embarrassed but content look on her face. She had changed into a different set of PJ's and had another blanket around her body.
Ai looked down at Lindy.
"So it's every month?"
"Yes, I'm afraid so. Don't worry, it isn't the end of the world. Totally normal." Lindy smiled and hugged her leg. "And I think you need to say something to Impmon."
The Tamer looked uncomfortable for a second, but knelt down to Impmon. With apologetic brown eyes, she spoke softly.
"Impmon, I'm sorry if I was acting weird. It's just that I'm kinda...growing up. Can you forgive me?"
Impmon was very confused on why Ai was apologizing to him. Nonetheless he thought it was sweet of her to consider his feelings. He pretended not to care and shrugged.
"It's okay, munchkin."
Ai pecked his cheek, making him freak out. Giggling, she took off upstairs giving another thank you to the dark blue hybrid. Lindy waved and turned to Impmon.
"She's sleeping on the couch tonight."
"Do I even wanna know?"
"She's just growing up, Impmon. It's what I went through. Just be prepared for some mood swings. If she screams at you or something she really doesn't mean it, okay?"
"So, why was she-um bleedin?" he asked quietly and Lindy sighed.
"She's starting that month thing I told you about, remember?" Impmon felt the life sucked out of him as he blushed bright cherry red. Oh. That.
"It's okay! I dealt with it, but your helping out Mako."
"What? Why me?" Impmon cried and Lindy ignored his question. She suddenly realized that the twins were really starting to grow up. For the longest time, she just imagined them as the same five year olds playing games with her and Impmon...now, it was different.
"Impmon, their growing up..." Lindy mumbled. "Next thing we know, they're gunna be teenagers...like us."
It was a odd thought. Despite the mentality of a young adult, Lindy and Ian in their human forms were still teenagers. How strange that within the next five years, the twins would appear to be the same age as them. It damped the hybrid's mood.
"Yea, so what? Listen, their growin' anyways and we can't really change that now, can we? I just say let it go, toots."
The card game was finished up (Lindy lost, shocker) and the two imps curled into bed. Their sleeping arrangements were...a little weird. First, Impmon liked having covers and Lindy was a blanket hogger so it was established that two blankets must be on the bed at all times. Secondly, Impmon had his corner of the bed, and Lindy had hers since they were so tiny. Tonight, Lindy made the mistake of sleeping beside him...
Impmon was running in his dream. He didn't know what he was running from. What was important was that if this thing chasing him caught him, it would be very bad. The shadow moved slowly at first, giving the hybrid a chance to start running. He couldn't remember saying anything to the shadow at first but now, he was screaming at it.
"Leave me alone!"
"Join us..." the voice whispered. It sounded smooth as silk.
"No, I won't!" Impmon replied, and ran faster. Everything seemed to be slowing down, including himself. It was like everything turned to jelly and he couldn't completely control his legs. With a grunt, he changed into Beelzemon and flapped his wings. In front of him was Leomon.
Everything stopped for him. All the sounds, the movements-everything. The lion digimon stood there stoic. The digimon was the same as he ever looked in his dreams. Blue eyed, golden mane, tall and built well. His mouth opened but no sound came out. That was because Beelzemon's claw was in his chest.
"No...stop!" Beelzemon begged. This was the same dream now. The same stupid dream he kept having for a long time. He shut his eyes, trying to wake up.
"Beelzemon..."
He opened his eyes again and there was Ai and Mako in Leomon's place. Wide eyed and had a trickle of blood coming out of their mouth. To his absolute horror, he had stabbed the two of them through their chests with his claws.
"Please stop..." whispered Beelzemon again, trying to get himself to move but he couldn't. The nightmare continued.
"Beelzemon..."
The mega looked at Lindy now who was impaled by him. She was still alive-bearly. Her dark blue digimon form twitched.
"You're a Demon Lord, Beelzemon...it's time to face your destiny." Lindy's voice was now Jeri's and she laughed. Then as she laughed, tears came out of her eyes.
"Stop...stop all of this. I'm so, sorry. Please stop." cried Beelzemon. He still couldn't move-couldn't feel.
"Beelzemon..."
"Beelzemon..."
"BEELZEMON!"
Suddenly, he snapped opened his eyes. To his surprise, Lindy was on top of him apparently pinning him down with Ai and Mako on each side, looking terrified. He took a sharp inhale of breath and looked at himself. He wasn't Impmon anymore, he was in his mega form. This was a first.
"I-I-I..." the mega couldn't answer at first. The shock from the dream still overcame him. Ai looked concerned, gripping her D-Arc. It glowed bright purple.
"Beelzemon? Can you hear us now?" Mako called out. He nodded his head. With a sigh of relief, they let go of him. It wasn't like they were strong enough to pin him down, but they had to do something.
"M-Mako? What..." Beelzemon grunted and sat up quickly. Twisting his head around, he looked aghast.
The sheets were destroyed. Completely shredded-like some wild animal attacked them. The fluff from the pillows was everywhere as well since one of his pillows was torn apart in the middle. The headboard had more claw marks as well running down the sides and middle.
"You had a bad dream-it's okay." Lindy hugged the mega close, looking relieved. When Beelzemon put a hand around her-that's when he felt it. A long mark starting at the corner of her back and it ran down. It didn't feel deep but Lindy winced when he touched it.
"I hurt you..." The mega's green eyes went wide.
"No, I'm okay-really." Lindy assured him but Beelzemon wasn't listening. He jumped out of the bed. Ai stepped in front of him.
"Your nightmares haven't got that bad before-what's wrong?"
"It's okay. You can tell us." Mako pleaded. Lindy put a hand on the Tamers.
"Beelzemon...are you-"
But Beelzemon left. He sprinted out of the room, out of the backdoor and into the skies with his ebony wings flapping madly. He needed to get away, he didn't want to hurt anyone else.
The mega didn't let himself stop until he was at the Shinjuku park. It must have been after midnight for sure. Sitting on a tree, he felt Renamon's presence appear beside him.
"Foxy, I'm not in the mood. Get away before I get nasty." Beelzemon growled.
Renamon paid no heed to his warning and stood behind him on a branch. He was bluffing, she could see right through it.
"Lindy and the twins were worried about you."
Beelzemon said nothing just hung his head low.
"I hurt Lindy...I can't believe I actually hurt her..." he looked at his claws, feeling suddenly disgusted with himself. In a flash, he changed back into Impmon. Looking back at his gloved hands, it didn't help much. He still remembered that dream vividly.
"I know...I deserve all of this." Impmon gritted his teeth. "I took somethin' away from Jeri that I can never give back...just how long will I keep having the nightmares for? How long will I wake up and find out I hurt someone I care about...toots...Ai...Mako? What if I seriously harm them? What if I am really destined to be a monster? I have voices telling me somethin' about the Demon Lords..."
"That's why you asked about them." Renamon replied, sitting next to him. Impmon scoffed.
Impmon didn't say anything else, just simply nodded his head. Renamon sighed.
"I'm not going to lie and say I understand you and your problems. That would be a waste of both of our times. But, I will say this. Lindy is going to find out very soon about your past and what happened to Leomon. You should tell her. Perhaps then, your nightmares will cease. Hiding this much from her will damage your relationship with her."
"I cant." whispered Impmon. He thought about Lindy's face-her sweet smile and bright blonde hair-and her eyes. He couldn't do it! He couldn't ruin one of the three good things he had in his life!
"Soon, you will have to. Impmon, know I'm here for you. Please, don't shut us out." Renamon actually sounded like she was...pleading. Impmon looked up at her.
"I ain't shuttin' nothin' out. I'm just not ready. Can't ya understand that?"
"Do you love Lindy?"
Impmon looked at Renamon like she was vile rubbish.
"Of course I love her! What kinda question is that?"
"An important one. Lindy loves you too Impmon, and you two need to get your secrets off your chests."
Not much else was said in the conversation. Renamon left Impmon to be, alone with his thoughts. He looked up at the night sky.
How could he tell the one girl he loved that he was a monster who murdered Jeri's digimon and loaded his data? Easily, he could imagine her being afraid of him-crawling back and screaming at him to get away. Or, Lindy would try to take Ai and Mako away from him, saying he wasn't safe. The nightmares pestered his mind, and he didn't want to remember anymore. He just wanted to be done with his black dogs that weighed him down-made him feel lower than dirt. With a heavy heart, he walked home preparing to face two munchkins and Lindy.
In the digital world, the dark servant slumped over breathing heavily. It was nearly impossible to try to contact him again. Communication by dreams was an awful place for her to attempt her powers-for he had very large demons hiding within his dreams. No...she would have to find another way to communicate.
"My lady?"
"Yes?" she asked.
"Lord UltimateChaosmon wants to make sure you deployed the next digimon."
"It is done. The Canadian Tamers will be defeated very shortly."
"Very well, I shall advise the Lord." The servant left the room-no doubt going to the evil ruler of chaos and relaying the message.
The digimon was running out of time...she needed to do something before UltimateChaosmon had the upper hand.
But, what could she do?
