Chapter 10: Activation 02: Crest of Passion
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon. I own Bowmon, ShineStarmon, Cam, Katrina and Yu. Please ask before using them.
Edit Authors Note: I changed Katrina and Cam's date a little. I made it more interesting and added some conflict between the two. Katrina likes Cam but he honestly, likes someone else. Also, a new digimon will appear. How well do you remember a certain monkey digimon from Season One? Enjoy.
"Hi, Mr. Yu!" chimed Suzie happily. She and Lopmon strolled into Hypnos and saw the leader just walking in as well. He was a little surprised to see the Tamer there on a Saturday. It made Yu curious.
"Hello, Suzie. Lopmon. What are you two doing here?"
"We're giving Henry and Terriermon breakfast." Suzie held up a bag of bagels from the Matsuki Bakery. The pink haired Tamer leaned in. "I think he spent the whole night here again."
Yu didn't respond to that. Henry had always had a habit of going into Hypnos and monitoring the Yuggoth program for any 'wild ones'. Sometimes, he would pull an all nighter. The logical Tamer was still on high alert for digimon like Armageddemon.
Yu, Suzie, and Lopmon headed up to the monitor room where Terriermon bounced happily to them.
"Finally! Life forms to talk to! Do you guys have any idea how bored I was down here with Mr. Mumbles over there? Please tell me you brought breakfast."
Suzie laughed and handed Terriermon the big bag of bagels. Eager, Terriermon dug into them and put one into his mouth. Lopmon shook her head.
"You could say thank you, Terriermon. It doesn't kill you to have manners."
"Phnk ou."
"Ugh."
"Brother, I brought breakfast." Suzie skipped over to the Tamer and sure enough, Henry was sitting at a computer drinking some coffee. He looked tired, faint bags appearing beneath his grey eyes. Suzie thought sadly how much time Henry spent his days in this building after Yamaki passed away. He knew all the programs as well as Yu did. She hugged him, softly.
"Hey, Suzie." Henry smiled. "Thanks, I was just about to send Terriermon to go grab us something."
"Morning Henry." Yu called, settling his briefcase down and going through some papers. "Any luck?"
Henry made a noise. He leaned back in his chair and put his hands up, stretching.
"Nothing, Yu. It's like the digimon are now avoiding this area like the plague. It makes me worried. Something like that Armageddemon can't just be the end of it. Especially since it talked about angels, demons and knights..." The Tamer pursed his lips and looked at Yu. "You think we could-"
"No." Yu's voice interrupted. "You know I'm not allowing anyone going into the digital world. Even if it's just a quick check up. The parents would freak, and I stated in the contract that no one goes in there."
The contract Yu mentioned had a specific clause stating that under no circumstances, should any Tamer, digimon or hybrid go into the digital world. Three times they got trapped and it was a miracle to pull them out. Yu was not going to be responsible for a Tamer's death in another world. Unlike Yamaki, Yu was more cautious and played his cards close to his hand. It made the others frustrated, but Yu had the parents on his side. No more digital world travelling. That was final.
"There could be something seriously wrong there." Henry pointed out.
"Continue to monitor." Yu closed the conversation completely. "Now, where is Talley-I have to talk to that director about his..." The leader went out of the room, mumbling to himself.
"So, guess what I'm doing tonight?" Suzie asked, almost reaching for a bagel but reconsidered. Bagels had a lot of calories. Lopmon saw her hesitation and shoved a bagel into her Tamer's mouth, surprisingly. Suzie tasted the blueberry and gave in, taking a bite.
"What?" Henry asked, not looking away from his monitor. He pulled up another page about Holy Angels. All it showed was biblical angels like Michael, or Uriel-nothing about the digital world.
"I'm going on a date tonight."
"What?" Henry and Terriermon asked together, dropping whatever they were doing. Suzie giggled.
"Wow, I should say that more often. You two perked up instantly."
"Date?" The grey eyed teen looked baffled for once. "Suzie, you're twelve!"
"So?"
"Well, I-uh-did you ask dad yet?"
"Doesn't matter, I'm going out either way."
"Well, who's the lucky guy?" Terriermon asked, sitting on Henry's shoulder. He dug into the bagel bag and picked up another to shove into his mouth.
"Mako."
Terriermon started to choke on the bagel. After a few good whacks from Henry, he scolded the digimon.
"Chew! I'm not saving your butt every time you choke on your food!"
"MAKO?!" Terriermon wheezed. Not Mako Ramen! That was Impmon and Lindy's partner! This was horrible! He could imagine it now, Suzie and Mako dating and every time...every date...Impmon would be shoving him into a toilet-or doing something awful to him.
"Yes, Mako. He's such a sweet guy." Suzie smiled. "I thought you two would be more comfortable knowing him a bit better than someone else."
She had a point. Mako was a much better choice than some thirteen year old boy. Henry would have lost it for sure. His brotherly instinct to protect his younger sister still held high.
"He's ten. You're twelve-"
"Really? You're going to pull that card when you went out with that one girl who was older than you?"
Henry blushed.
"That's different! Just tell dad what you're doing, please!"
"Okay, okay, okay. If it makes you stop looking like you're going to blow a fuse." Suzie rolled her eyes. Munching on the bagel, she pointed to the screen. "What's that?"
"I'm trying to figure out what exactly Holy Angels are. I got nothing about Royal Knights, or Demon Lords...it seems just bizarre. Armageddemon talked about these groups like they were real and alive. We think Impmon might be one of the Demon Lords..."
"Hm. Hey Lopmon, didn't we just talked about our dream this morning?" Suzie turned to the chocolate rabbit digimon. She folded her arms and scrunched up her face.
"We did."
Henry looked curious.
"Dream?"
Suzie folded her arms, looking serious. Her curly hair draped over her face a little and she spoke.
"It was like someone was calling to me...it's a little hard to explain. But the voice did say Holy Angels. Lopmon told me she had the same dream too."
Lopmon put a claw to her mouth.
"If I remember the story correctly, there were seven Holy Angels. Master never really spoke of the legend often-he said he was rubbish. I wish I learned more about digital world lore during my time as a Deva-this would be so much simpler."
"Momentai." Terriermon waved a ear. "We'll figure this out. Anyway, more talking about this date-where are you two going?"
In Canada, three digimon successfully followed Cam and Katrina to their date spot. Night had made the two a little harder to keep track of, but thankfully, the Tamers were going to a well lit street, filled with fancy restaurants. Agumon, Bowmon, and Calumon watched as Cam held the door open for Katrina. It looked like Katrina said something and laughed. Cam rubbed the back of his head.
"Oh, he only does that when he's embarrassed." Agumon looked excited. Bowmon squeaked and pointed to a sign.
"Wait! Sign!" she pointed a ribbon. There in bold red letters read "NO DIGIMON ALLOWED".
"So, we can't go in?" Calumon's ears drooped.
"Why did Lindy have to choose a non-digimon place?" Agumon complained. His nose gave him the response as he started to smell the delicious Italian food. Pizza, pasta, bread, and sweet desserts...it made him drool. Bowmon snapped him out of it.
"Roof." she whispered. Agumon looked at the roof and grinned. They might as well sneak in...
"How are you doing, Bowmon?"
The small digimon gave a quiet cough, trying not to inhale the dust from the vents. It seemed like a good idea at first, travel through the vents to get into the restaurant. But then, the three digimon realized that it was hot, tight and had unnatural amounts of dust. Calumon coughed as he scooted forwards between Bowmon and Agumon, who was behind the two smaller digimon. The vents creaked as he crawled forward, but didn't break.
Seated in a private section in the restaurant, Cam and Katrina read the menus half heartingly. Unbeknownst to each other, they were stealing quick glances. One was thinking how handsome he was and how surreal everything was tonight. The other was wondering how long the raven hared teen had a crush on him. He didn't have a clue she was even into him.
A small waitress appeared carrying a notepad and asked if they were ready to order.
"Oh, may I have a glass of water, and a Caesar salad." Katrina ordered and the waitress nodded. The hazel eyed girl turned to Cam who read his order.
"Canadian on tap, and the pizza-extra pepperoni." The waitress complied and the two started to talk quietly.
"So, how come you didn't go back to Niagara Falls to see your family?" Cam asked slowly. It was the only good question he had in his mind. Lindy had gone back to Japan. Marianna, and Tiguramon went home to see their family along with Luke and Bakemon. PJ and Kunemon found a job at Best Buy and were working overtime there. Ally and Gazimon had went back home to visit their uncle-Cam's dad. Katrina shrugged.
"I wanted to stay here and get my homework done. My sister and mom can be a little...loud at home. Besides, I have to look after Calumon while Lindy is away."
"Oh right, that must be fun." Cam teased. Katrina laughed.
"Today, he and Bowmon pretended to be Canadian pirates and asked me where they could ride some moose into battle. I think I laughed for twenty minutes."
Cam chuckled loudly. "Canadian pirates-that's a good one."
"So, how come you're staying behind?" Katrina quickly said thanks as their drinks were set down for them. Before Cam replied, he sipped his beer.
"Uh, well my football coach wanted us to practice a little more. I stayed behind because I want to make captain by next year and I gotta start proving I can do it. I always wanted to be captain..."
Katrina couldn't keep the butterflies in her stomach to settle down. Just how long had she imagined this? Sitting here with Cam, eating dinner, having an actual proper date! He was so sweet about it too, not like his usual jerk self. Over the years, he calmed down and actually became nicer. The Tamer suspected Agumon had helped with that. Bowmon helped her to be more confidant in herself. In fact, all the digimon had a profound impact on each Tamer. Well, maybe it was the other way for Kunemon and PJ.
"Ugh, how much longer Bowmon? I'm getting cramped." Agumon groaned, trying not to bump his large snout into Calumon again. It was dark, and he can't see a single damn thing. Bowmon whispered that the next open vent showed a perfect view of Cam and Katrina. They arrived and adjusted themselves at the vent. It was directly above the table and so far it, looked like the date was going well. Agumon and Bowmon high fived each other.
The food was settled down between the two Tamers and they ate sparingly. They were more interested in chatting about their lives.
"So, you're dad is sill out in Iran?" Cam asked, poking at his food. Katrina took a bite of her salad.
"Mhm, he has another tour he's going on. It's nothing as dangerous as his first tour in Iraq but...we still miss him. How's your dad doing?"
"The usual. Selling cars at top dollar, and expecting me to be captain by now." Cam laughed but Katrina could tell he was a little disappointed in himself. Reaching out, Katrina held his hand.
"I'm proud you got this far in football. You're dad should be proud of you. I know Agumon is."
The brown haired Tamer blushed bright red at Katrina's gesture. She was gentle, and so sweet...
Lisa's face popped into his head. God, what was he going to do? He can't tag along two girls! Not Katrina-the group would never forgive him.
"I found it so sweet that you wrote that letter to ask me out tonight. I never knew you did stuff like that for girls." Katrina's eyes crinkled in happiness, she looked radiant-wait. Cam spun back her words. Letter?
"What letter?" Cam asked, stopping his slice of pizza from entering his mouth.
"You know, that sweet letter asking me out tonight. 'Then again, you always look beautiful'-that was so touching."
"I never wrote a letter. You did, remember?"
"What?" Katrina's eyes changed. "I never wrote-"
The wheels in their head started to turn. Agumon and Bowmon were so avid on them going out...and Lindy stayed behind that one night. The realization made several things happen in a chain reaction.
First, the two Tamers leaned back looking like they realized they were part of a prank T.V show. Second, while Cam was holding a hand to his head, Katrina was bright red, using an napkin to cover her face up. This was so embarrassing. Their digimon and Lindy had set them up. Third, and this was most important-the vents above them creaked and finally gave. Three digimon dropped from above, landing on their table. Food flew everywhere and customers gasped at the ear shattering noise. Calumon was covered in salad, Bowmon looked terrified at being the centre of attention, and Agumon had a slice of pizza on his head staring at an angry Cam. Katrina ran out of the restaurant.
"Katrina!" Cam called out, but she didn't listen. He narrowed his eyes at the orange digimon.
"Awkward." mumbled Agumon.
It was a half hour later that Cam finally was able to get out of the restaurant. First, he was yelled at by the manager of the restaurant for ruining the dining experience. Then, he not only had to pay for the meals (which were expensive as hell), but had to pay for the broken table as well. It was a miracle that the cops weren't called on him for having digimon. Cam said a few choice words to the manager when he mentioned that saying that he's a bigot for hating digimon for no reason. As Cam walked outside, he scanned for Katrina and saw her leaning against a building across the street.
"Hey..." Cam went over, and ignored Agumon's attempts to say sorry. He was still pissed at him.
Katrina wiped a tear from her eye, trying to look casual. Inside, she felt stupid. Of course Cam didn't actually like her. She was dreaming! Only hot girls got Cam. Girls like her, the ones that didn't have double D's or curvy bodies-got maybe a cat, and a lifetime of being single. Bowmon floated over and placed herself on Katrina's black hair. She tried whispering something but Katrina wasn't listening. Bowmon-hurt, stayed silent.
"I'm so, sorry." Katrina looked away from Cam, laughing harshly. "I'm such an idiot. I thought you had feelings for me, finally. "
"Katrina-"
"Five years," she took one of her heels off-they were causing blisters on her feet. "For five years, I liked you. You're so confidant, passionate, and so freaking hot. It was like Photoshop decided to make your body and I stupidly thought I-" Katrina felt more tears drip down her face. "I stupidly thought I was going to be the one you would fall for in the end."
Cam had no idea what to say. If this girl was anyone else he knew, he would give her the whole 'you are such an amazing woman and you deserve a guy who will treat you right' speech. But, this wasn't some other girl. This was Katrina. This was his friend since they were starting high school. She was part of their team! He remembered how bravely she fought in that castle in the digital world, how they tackled the summit together. How they fought with Ribbonmon and Greymon. What do you say to a friend when they tell you they liked you for so long?
"Cam!" Agumon tugged on his Tamer, but he ignored him.
"Katrina, you're one of my best friends. You're a Tamer like me, we battled together, we done so much together...and I never stopped to think if you ever liked me that way. I'm sorry. I want to like you like that...but, I can't. I have feelings for someone else."
"Who? Lindy? You still have a crush on her?" Katrina's voice was sharp as steel.
"No." Cam frowned. He had liked Lindy for awhile, but that faded within time. Now, a brunette girl with beautiful blue eyes took its place. "I like Lisa."
No one noticed a faint sparkle appear within his dress shirt. It was a faint, orange glow that came from his crest. As soon as it appeared, it faded.
"Cam!" Agumon insisted, tugging on his Tamer's shirt harder, but Cam pushed him away. Katrina looked at him with a strange glint in her eye.
"You really like her?"
"Yes." he replied breathlessly. "I really do. Katrina, I want you to know that I'll always be here as your friend. But, we both know lying-saying that I want to date you-isn't going to make things better. You have the crest of honesty-you know what happens when people start lying-it gets so messed up."
"I know..." Katrina mumbled. She learned her lesson not to lie.
Agumon finally spat a fireball at Cam's feet. He jumped back, cursing.
"Agumon! I am still pissed at you and if you think throwing-"
"Shut the hell up and look to your left! Digimon!" Agumon smacked his Tamer, looking angry. "You can be mad at me later, we got to stop it!"
Cam gave a cry of exasperation. "No! No! I'm done with battling digimon! Let the cops handle it for once and earn their pay check. We aren't a part of this!"
"Yes, we are! Like it or not, we have to protect others. It's our duty as Tamers." Katrina replied. "Let's talk about our feelings later."
Bowmon pointed with a small gasp at Calumon, who floated over to the barrier. Cam and Katrina rushed inside, shielding their eyes from the fog. It was bright at first but within a few seconds, they were adjusted.
"Woah! That's a weird digimon!" Calumon cried, stepping back and his ears shrunk drastically.
"Hello there ladies and gentlemon! It looks like we got ourselves an audience!"
There in front of them, was what looked like a huge, brown stuffed monkey. His eyes were concealed by black shades and in his hand was a large microphone. A small stuffed teddy bear was tied on his hip and he grinned proudly before bring the microphone to his lips and speaking again in a strange accent.
"Now, this next song is a dousy. UltimateChaosmon personally requested it. It's called 'Death of the Tamers!' Sung by yours truly, Etemon!"
Cam just rose an eyebrow and looked at the information displayed on his orange D-Arc.
"Etemon. Ultimate, virus, and his special attack is Dark Network. Why is he trying to sound like Elvis?"
"Who cares, we have to stop him!" Katrina frowned and pulled out her yellow D-Arc. "Bowmon, we have to battle. Digivolve time!"
CREST DIGIVOULTION
"Bowmon crest digivolve to…" The once small bow returned to her powerful star shaped ultimate form.
"ShineStarmon!" she called out.
DIGIVOULTION
"Agumon digivolve to...GREYMON!" The large digimon let out a terrifying roar and Cam half laughed. He forgot how big his partner got. The street was cleared of any other people, and within a few steps of Greymon's big feet, car alarms blared. It was right out of a movie: Godzilla and a star creature vs. the giant Elvis monkey monster.
"LETS GO!" Cam shouted and the two started to attack.
"Nova Blast!" Greymon let out a large fireball from his maw. It landed on Etemon's chest, sending him back. ShineStarmon took out her spear.
"Spear of Truth!"
The attack almost hit Etemon, but he ducked. Holding his microphone to his lips, he laughed.
"An interactive audience, huh? Well, let's try this number on ya'll-Concert Crush!"
The wave of dark energy hit ShineStarmon with ruthless force. The poor vaccine didn't stand a chance as she cringed, feeling the waves of darkness drain her energy. She flew backwards while de-digivolving into Bowmon. Katrina caught her.
"Bowmon! Cam, be careful!"
Cam growled and shouted at Etemon madly, jabbing a finger at him in the air.
"Alright, asshole! You're so going to pay for that! No one hurts our friends."
"Now, let's not rush boy-plenty of time to make you suffer." The evil monkey digimon cackled. Greymon tackled him down.
"Boom! Who's your daddy now?!" Cam mocked. He took out a card from his back pocket. Thankfully, he remembered to bring them wherever he went.
DIGI-MODIFY
Cam swiped the card diagonally and showed the card proudly.
"Digi-modify! Power Increase activate!"
Greymon roared proudly, glowing bright orange with power. He checked Etemon again and used his brown covered skull to make him fly like a rag doll. Groaning, the monkey digimon stood up, and dusted himself off from the fall.
"Had enough?" Greymon challenged, narrowing his eyes into slits. Etemon took his microphone and started to shout.
"Dark Network!" he threw a dark ball of energy towards Greymon who was caught in it and sent into a building. Luckily, it didn't crumble just leave a good few cracks.
Cam hissed in pain, feeling the same thing as Greymon did. What was going on? How come he was feeling the same thing his digimon felt?
"Alright you stuffed monkey, let's do this." Cam picked up his feet and charged with Greymon, attacking together.
Katrina noticed the glowing in his shirt.
"Cam, your crest!" she cried.
Cam took his crest of passion out from under his dress shirt and slammed it onto his D-Arc. Greymon started to glow bright and change. Calumon groaned and held his forehead. Here we go again, he thought as the power erupted from his forehead and went into the D-Arc. Greymon widened his eyes, he felt the power kicking in and the digivoultion overtake him.
"Cam, I can digivolve again!"
CREST DIGIVOULTION
"Greymon crest digivolve to…"
Metal plates formed on his orange and blue stripped chest. A silvery alloy plating covered his skull and fiery red hair flew out behind. Small torn wings appeared on his back while a metal claw formed on his left hand. He grew much larger, which Cam didn't think was possible.
"MetalGreymon!" he called out, roaring. Cam just stood there shocked. He changed! Slowly, the Tamer started to regain his voice as he looked at his vibrating orange D-Arc. This is what they needed to beat this digimon.
"That's it! Now, let's show Etemon who's really in charge here!" Cam had a small sparkle in his eyes as he said those words. He knew this was going to turn out good. His passion was ready to be tested at any time and it was always stronger. He could kick it to a hundred and ten percent and his partner would be right behind him on it.
"Giga Blaster!" MetalGreymon roared. Opening his metal chest plates to reveal two powerful missiles, he blasted the monkey several yards back. Etemon faltered and took a step back looking very annoyed. That wasn't supposed to happen!
"I ain't even got my closing act done! Dark Network!" the blast was dodged miraculously by MetalGreymon and he thrust his claw forward. Cam made the same movements, giving a loud war cry. It was like him and MetalGreymon were moving in sync. It was a direct hit. Etemon was finished. As his data shattered, the ultimate monkey digimon gave his final warning,
"UltimateChaosmon. I tried and I failed. He won't give up destroying the angels, demons or those blasted Royal Knights!" Etemon was defeated. The fog lifted up, leaving the hiding people look at a very large metal dinosaur. Some cried out, pointing at MetalGreymon. Others took out their phones.
"UltimateChaosmon. That's a digimon, right?" Katrina asked. MetalGreymon spoke up suddenly in a deep booming voice.
"Cam, UltimateChaosmon was an urban legend about this powerful digimon. If it's actually real, then we got an explanation on why these digimon are suddenly popping up."
Cam looked up at his digimon. God, he was gigantic!
"You're right, MetalGreymon. We have to do something about this." Katrina picked up Calumon who was a little star struck from the battle.
"We should warn Lindy and the others in Japan. This could get bad for them too." Cam climbed on MetalGreymon and held out a hand for Katrina. She hesitated, but then grabbed on. The group flew out of the battle ground, not waiting for police to show up and give them crap about damaging property.
"It did Cam, remember? That digimon in the internet!" Katrina shouted. "This UltimateChaosmon is sending digimon to both here and there! Why though?"
"Gazimon knows a lot about this legend." MetalGreymon suggested. "We should ask her."
"Yeah, after we figure out how to de-digivolve you." Cam looked annoyed. "Couldn't you have picked a smaller form? You know, something that isn't like twenty feet tall?"
"Hey!" the ultimate shouted. "I saved your asses! You can be thankful for that at least!"
"Don't think that will get you out of a long talk were going to have about meddling with my dating life." Cam warned. "I'm still mad about you guys pulling that stunt! Wait until Lindy gets home..." He was going to lecture her too, and give her shit for pulling that stunt.
"I'm sorry, Katrina." Bowmon whispered. Katrina almost didn't hear her because of the wind whipping past them as they flew.
"Well, you should be. You guys and Lindy have no right to meddle into our love lives. She should have known better!"
Cam and Katrina didn't speak to one another after they landed at the Lapp apartments. He wanted to say something to her but she had already departed into the building with Calumon and Bowmon in her now dirty red dress. Cam leaned against his partner.
"I feel like the biggest douche, ever."
"That's cause you are." the reply came quicker than a snap of a whip.
"Shut up, MetalGreymon."
Edit Authors Note: Alright, I added Henry and Terriermon here. God, I felt like I just kinda ignored them for a little. Henry is busy with Hypnos since he thinks digimon are going to appear all over the place. Plus, he was close with Yamaki-I'm sure that will be talked about soon in chapters. Next, we head to Ai and Lindy who have their spa day!
