Chapter Thirty: Speeches Speak Words.

Hermione stared at the door where Malfoy had gone through and hugged her middle. She could feel his sorrow and despair. It hurt to think she did that. She felt like she was going to break into pieces with him but there was that sliver of happiness at seeing his friends together. Sighing heartily she made her way back to the party and slumped in a chair at the back away from everyone and painted a smile on her face so not to draw attention to herself.

"Miss Granger?"

"Yes." She looked up to find Mrs Malfoy herself in green dress robes stood next her looking down with sad eyes. Her silver ones reminded her of Malfoy's, reminding her of the pain he was feeling right now because of her and a misunderstanding of words between them.

"May I sit?"

"Of course." She nodded as the Malfoy Matriarch at next to her.

"How have you been?"

"Okay…"

"Everything alright?"

"Yes."

"Really?"

"No." She sighed, "It's not, and it's horrible."

"Horrible dear?"

"Yes horrible, I've done a terrible thing."

"What is it dear?"

"I'm making Mal-Draco hurt and I can't stop."

"How so?"

"Something happened last night and I didn't react well to it today." She said vaguely.

"Is that something to do with the Veela Bite you've covered up?"

"How…?"

"Every Veela here can sense it."

"So you, Blaise and M-Draco?"

"If you look around many of Blaise's side of guests are Veela or a Mate of one."

"Wow!" Hermione gasped when she realised this, seeing the extremely faint red cord between different couples.

"Only Veela and Mates can see that bond, you'll see it is stronger the more bonded you are with Draco."

"Mmm…" Hermione hummed distractedly.

"So what happened after last night?"

"Nothing last night but this morning I ran away while he was still asleep…" She had to swallow hard to speak, "Then we just talked and he…he misunderstood me."

"Misunderstood you?"

"The thing is this is still strange and scary for me…I had plans, my life was planned to the T then this happened. He misunderstood what I said to him as me rejecting him-I wasn't though, I'm just scared."

"I understand where you both come from." The older witch nodded sincerely, "He's the Veela and only understands this is it for him and he's fine with that but it's harder for a Mate because their whole life can feel like it's been on the back burner so they can submit to their Veela. But it isn't like that. Not at all. You can still have your plans but you'll have Draco there now with you."

"I know but it's just…"

"He wasn't planned?"

"Yes. My whole life was planned and now…it's a bump in the road."

"I understand." She patted Hermione's hand, "My Mother didn't tell me until I was seventeen about being a Veela and I had already made plans. I was going to marry Lucius and become a stay-at-home Mother and have at least a boy so he could carry on the Malfoy name and if that meant having however many girls beforehand I didn't care, I wanted a boy. Then my Mother told me and I thought my life was ruined. I didn't know Lucius was my Mate yet so I was scared about that and I thought that I'd become a whore and want to…make love every second. But it's not all true and I got lucky. I could keep Lucius and have my life, even with an increased appetite for making love." Hermione blushed at Mrs Malfoy's frank statement.

"But you got your life how you wanted, I won't. My plans are far different to yours."

"Yes, I was lucky." She smiled, "But my issue was no one would accept me as a Veela, at the time they were looked down on like a common curb-crawler. Especially when I had to keep it from Lucius too as he would have never accepted it." The blonde witch caught her tears with a pristine white handkerchief before going on, "It's easier for you now. I promise this is the best thing that will happen to you."

"But the Ministry Marriage Law makes it harder too. Everything is at break-neck speeds and I find it hard to think that in less than a couple of weeks I'll be married. I could probably accept this more if it wasn't for that Law."

"True but it also stops the months of pain for Draco and helps you be together rather than having to be together in small doses."

"The thing is because I'm with him all the time it makes it worse because I feel like I should accept him straight off when I'm…not ready."

"Believe me; it gets easier as it blossoms."

"Does it?"

"It will, I promise."

"Thank you Mrs Malfoy."

"Please call me Narcissa; Mrs Malfoy is Draco's Grandmother, cranky old bint."

"Okay." Hermione giggled as Mrs Malfoy cursed Draco's Grandmother.

"Have you set a date?"

"What?"

"For the wedding?"

"Oh…no, we haven't really talked about it to be perfectly honest." Hermione cringed slightly, "I guess I worried more over the Veela side of our relationship."

"Okay but remember the deadline."

"Of course." Hermione chewed her lip, "Narcissa?"

"Yes dear."

"Do you…miss Lucius?"

"Yes but I have to remember Draco is my priority now, when he's happy I am too." She fished out her handkerchief again to mop up her tears.

"I'm sorry." She patted the silver eyed witch next to hers arm, "At least I know from you that if anything happened to me Draco could still live."

"He wouldn't. I survived because of my obliviate spell making the Bond weak and I live off potions and charms to keep me alive long enough to see my son grow up and get married and have children."

"Yes, children, another thing to consider."

"You'll be fine." Narcissa laughed and caught Draco's eye as he left, "But you need to sort this out."

"I will." Hermione promised as she too watched him go.
