The Saga: Successors

Chapter 15: Kazu and Kenta's Second Excellent Adventure
It was another beautiful day in West Shinjuku as Kazu Shoita strolled down the street with his partner in tow. The cocky loud teen had an annoyed expression on his face, and his eyebrows were furrowed as he looked at his phone. The person he was texting was Ryo who just messaged him a good joke and he had no idea how to respond.
Should he stay cool and type a quick 'haha?'
"No too lame," he mumbled to himself.
"Master Kazu," Gaurdomon spoke. "While I do not understand all customs humans go through despite your teachings, why not just reply a laughing face to him? Surely, it will suffice?" He moved out of the way for a bunch of kids laughing and running down the street. For a large clunky digimon, he could have some agility and flexibility though none like his comrades. Kazu however, almost shoved the kids by his reaction to his digimon's suggestion.
"Gaurdomon! This is the Ryo! He would think I'm lame replying like that." he huffed. "I want to sound cool, not like some lame girlfriend he had."
Then the phone buzzed which startled Kazu. Looking at the screen, he rolled his eyes and answered the phone.
"Kenta, where are you? I've been waiting-"
"Dude, there's a digimon here!" Kenta said on the other line. "You gotta get here quick!"
"A digimon?" the teen grinned, taking out his brown D-Arc. The compass spun wildly before the arrow settled for dead ahead. He started to run with Gaurdomon following behind closely.
"Finally some action we can get in on!" he cheered.
"It's by our school, I'll wait for you. Think this is our chance to prove to the others we're good enough?" Kenta asked hopefully on the line.
"Buddy, if this isn't our shot then I don't know what is. Don't do anything stupid until I get there."
It was loosely about ten minutes later that Kazu and Gaurdomon came running up to the pathway by the school. They saw the digimon and were quite perplexed by the sight of him.
He was a tall digimon, and relatively humanoid. He wore a blue and white pinstriped suit with a grey cloak draped over him. A demonic mask relatively looking like a bear with ruby red eyes concealed most of his face with just his thin lips showing. Shiny silver hair frayed out from his head, with tassels framing his face and tumbling down to his mid back.
The evil digimon leaned against a wall, head bowed a little. Standing still, the tall monster seemed to be awaiting for a challenger.
"He looks pretty strong..." gulped Kenta. His nervous expression matched MarineAngemon's who could easily sense the evil within the digimon. It made his pink feathers ruffle. Kazu rolled up his sleeves,
"He looks like dead meat. Let's take him out. Gaurdomon? Ready to go ultimate?"
"By your command, Master Kazu!"
MATRIX DIGIVOLUTION
"Gaurdomon Maxtrix Digivolve to..."
In a quick flash, data particles transformed the once brown and clunky champion into an android vaccine digimon. A partial silver helmet covered his head with one eye covered in a red scanner, while the other was clear and void of any cover. His lankly limbs had chords and wires stuck in, looking like he was partially complete.
"Andromon!"
"Let's go-" Kazu stopped suddenly, as he was examining the leaned digimon closer. The soft rise and fall of his chest indicated that he was snoring, and comically, a bubble was actually coming out of his nose. The dark digimon, the one that seemed to be proposing a battle of ages against the two mediocre levelled Tamers, was actually deep asleep.
"Hey!" Kazu shouted, cupping his hands around his mouth. "Wake up, asshole! We're fighting you!"
A loud, obnoxious snore was the only response.
"It appears that he is...sleeping?" Andromon turned to his Tamer.
"This guy is Astamon, ultimate level, virus type. Attacks with his gun called Oro Salmon and fires his bullets that can hone in on his targets. Sounds pretty cool..." Kenta said, looking up. "If he could actually wake up."
The brown haired Tamer marched up towards Astamon. The tall demon digimon was easily six foot while Kazu was hardly five foot ten. He nudged the digimon's shoulder. No response.
"Well, this is just great! The others are going to sense him and defeat him before we even get a shot. This blows." He folded his arms. "How are we supposed to protect the world when Takato and the others keep getting the good battles?"
"Kazu, it's not a competition." complained Kenta. "We should be working together to fight the bad digimon-I'm all for getting the spot light but maybe we should grab Takato before he wakes up."
"Takato is on a date with Jeri, this is the perfect opportunity to prove to Ryo that we're the strongest Tamers."
"Pi, pi-pii-pi." MarineAngemon commented looking a little doubtful. Kenta shrugged and prepared to hear his friend's crazy antics.
"Okay, if we can't wake up Astamon by tonight, I'll surrender him to the others. How does that sound?" Kazu said.
The agreement was eventually made. Wake up Astamon by dusk and fight him, or somehow get the others to throw him into a digital portal.
"Now...what would wake a digimon up?" Kazu frowned, pursing his lips. With a snap of his fingers he pulled out his phone and pressed a few buttons. Holding out his phone to Astamon's ear, the phone screeched a whining alarm. A minute later, the digimon didn't stir.
"Wow, he sure likes to sleep. Master Kazu, may I?" Andromon winded up his fist and let it fly, smashing it into Astamon's stomach. It made the digimon slump over, but the snores still continued. Kenta's eyes went bug wide.
"H-How!?"
"I...don't got a clue. C'mon, we got to find more ways to wake him up." Kazu grumbled.
On the other side of the city, Takato had taken Jeri out for breakfast celebrating their anniversary of dating. Taking a delicious bite of an omelette, the ex-Tamer was thankful her boyfriend hadn't tried to make her a meal again. It seemed less stressed out, and she was pretty hungry. Takato on the other hand seemed...distracted. He poked and pushed his food thoughtlessly. It was normal for him to be a little spaced out but today, it was almost he was barely there.
"Takato...you've been playing with your food. Is something wrong?" she asked, cocking her head to the side.
"I...It's nothing I should bother you about. Just a bad dream I had last night." he mumbled, taking a timid bite of his eggs. "Sorry, I should be a little more excited; it's our anniversary."
A waiter poured some more tea for the couple. The steam rose out of their mugs and the smell of lemon and honey overpowered their senses. Jeri blew a little on her tea before taking a sip.
"Well, what's the dream about?"
The red eyed Tamer took a moment to think and collect his thoughts. Then, he spoke.
"Well, it was strange but Guilmon and I were on this large battle field. It wasn't anything I ever saw before, like the sky was dark, lightening was everywhere, digimon were running around and some one was calling out our name as Gallantmon. Only, I don't ever remember a battle like this. Guilmon said he had the same dream too which is even weirder. The guy usually dreams about bread or something silly like that."
"A battle you never remember being part in? That's so weird..." Jeri hummed. "Anything else you can remember?"
"Well, there was this large monster battling us. He was winning and..." he trailed off. "...he managed to hit us pretty badly. But, I woke up on the floor when that happened. It felt like he really hit us."
"Takato, maybe this is sign you and Guilmon should spend less time looking up that UltimateChaosmon business." Jeri suggested. He shook his head.
"We're already calling a huge group meeting tonight about it. Especially with the possibility of Impmon being an actual Demon Lord-"
"-Which doesn't matter because he's a sweet guy and wouldn't harm us." her tone changed sternly. "You promised me it wouldn't be a witch hunt on him."
"It isn't. I just want to figure out what's going on." the Tamer replied. "I promise, we aren't going to hurt him. But, if he's actually hiding something from us..."
"He isn't." Jeri said.
"How do you know? I know it isn't likely, but we don't know where he came from before he met us-it's always been a bit of a mystery."
"So? Plenty of our partners had pasts. Lopmon, Gaurdomon, even Leomon had a past. I'm sure Impmon had his." Takato looked down.
"You asked Leomon about his past?"
"When he was still alive? Not really...I didn't want to pry but it seemed like he let on more than what he told. I wished I had asked..." Jeri pondered, looking sad.
"Shoot Jer," Takato put his food down. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't-"
She waved him off assuring him she's fine. It was a little annoying at the slight mention of Leomon everyone thought she was going to cry or become depressed. The only one who didn't was Impmon whom she only refrained talking about it with him was because he would go quiet and find any excuse to leave. In all honesty, it bothered him more than it bothered her.
"So, after this you ready for the main part of the date?" Takato asked, pulling something out of his pocket. He moved his hand and two tickets appeared out of his hand. Jeri picked one out of his hand and looked at it then gasped.
"You got us tickets to that panda zoo? Takato! That's so sweet." she pecked him on the lips. "Oh, I should have known that's why you worked extra at the bakery."
"And delivered god knows how many Guilmon bread orders. Trust me, it was worth it seeing your face."
The two departed the restaurant holding hands. Jeri leaned on her boyfriend and mentioned that he should pay attention to his dreams. He chuckled.
"For now, being here with you is better than some crummy dream I had."
"Okay ready?"
"Yep!"
"And...drop him!" called out Kazu.
On the large cliff, Kenta struggled but finally sent Astamon tumbling down. His body flopping like a bean bag on rock, dirt and bush. Finally, he laid on the ground, snoring away like he hadn't been disturbed at all.
"God dammit, what's with this digimon!?" the loud mouthed Tamer shouted. Kenta caught up to him, with MarineAngemon in tow. He adjusted his glasses.
"Violence isn't getting us anywhere, Kazu. We should try something else."
"Master Kenta has a point, I think maybe we should coerce our problem here to rouse form his sleep. Maybe he would like a tasty meal or perhaps some music could wake him up." Andromon suggested.
"Oh! There's that free concert going on downtown. Let's take him there!" Kazu picked up Astamon and with his digimon's help, carried him towards the bus stop. "If a concert can't wake this guy up, nothing can!"
After an awkward trip on the bus, the group arrived at the entrance to the town centre where a loud concert was taking place. A band was playing with a DJ up front and hundreds of people were around enjoying the music. Spotting some sunglasses, he snatched a pair and put them on Astamon. Kenta gave him a look,
"What? He stuck out like a sore thumb." the brown haired teen defended. The other boy just gave a heavy sigh.
"Let's just get him closer to the speakers."
MarineAngemon covered his ears as the music loudly played. He gave a few disapproving clicks of his tongue and ducked into Kenta's jacket pocket.
"Sorry buddy, we'll get out of here as soon as this guy wakes up."
"Kenta," breathed Kazu. "A little help?"
Noticing that Astamon's body was crushing Kazu, the Tamer jumped back in and shifted his weight to carry the digimon. They managed to get him near the front, where the speaks blasted loudly. Sadly, not a sir from Astamon was earned.
"This is ridiculous. How can this thing be sleeping still?" Kenta asked.
With the crowd being rowdy from such a good song, the mob suddenly picked up Astamon from their grasps and began to crowd surf the digimon. He was swept away with the two Tamers calling out and pointing at him. However, Astamon was lost in the ocean of sweaty concert attendees.
"Andromon, grab Astamon!" commanded Kazu.
"My pleasure-woah!" Andromon was suddenly picked up by the crowd as well and surfing along. "Master Kazu, I seem to be crowd surfing!"
"No shit." the Tamer grumbled.
The whole afternoon was dealt with the duo trying to fish out the crowd surfing digimon. At last, the two were released but comically had shades, necklaces, and band t-shirts on them. Kazu slapped his own face.
"How did you two even achieve that?"
"They are quite good at getting these attire accessory on us." commented Andromon, plucking a necklace off him. "May I keep the t-shirt?"
"Uh Kazu, we got a problem!" Kenta tugged his friend and pointed to a group of intoxicated teenage girls who were dragging the sleeping Astamon away towards a party bus.
"OH C'MON!" screamed Kazu. "Really? A freaking party bus!"
They sprinted towards the bus, but it took off when they were within feet of it. It sped away, letting it's loud music fade away into the city streets. Kenta tugged on the valet boy who stood by.
"Sir, where is that bus going?"
"Oh, that's one of our band's buses. It's going to Ritz-Carlton."
The two Tamers tensed. That was all the way in Tokyo. They looked at the sky. It was mid afternoon, time left to still savage their failing mission. Without much to talk, the two plus Andromon who was wearing his black bandshirt still, departed for the high class sector of Tokyo to find Astamon.
The panda exhibit was packed. Hundreds of people were entering the zoo including Takato and Jeri who looked excited as they passed through the front gates. Handing the tickets to the clerk, they made their way down a hall towards the first window. Jeri found a front spot and gasped as she gazed her eyes on the pandas.
"Oh my Gosh! They're so cute!" she cried. Around four pandas were playing on a tire swing while another was napping in the corner. They were large creatures with black and white fur that was matted a little from some leaves. Their black eyes stared at the windows where humans were staring at them.
"They do look pretty adorable." Takato smiled. "I bet it gets pretty exhausting having being watched by us."
"I wish I could take one home." pouted Jeri. "I know it wouldn't be practical but I would just love one."
"We have Guilmon and Calumon-I think our hands our full." he laughed. She smiled,
"I miss him, I hope he's doing okay."
"I'm sure he's loving Canada right now. Lindy told us that he's being spoiled there. So, don't worry."
The duo grabbed some ice cream (shaped like pandas much to Jeri's delight) and walked around the zoo. Their talks changed from digimon, to school, to what they wanted to do when they were older.
"You wanted to be a graphic designer? I never knew that Takato." the ex-Tamer smiled. "You should go for it."
"Honestly, after Guilmon and our adventures, it kinda seems...boring. I'm not sure what I want to do. How about you?"
"Huh?"
"What do you want to do after school?"
"I..." blushed Jeri. "I would like to help children who lost their digimon. But, I don't think my father would be too happy with the idea-"
Takato stopped his girlfriend with a shocked face.
"Jeri, that's an amazing idea! Ever since those kids lost their partners from Rolling Meadows, I'm sure having someone to relate to would help them!"
"But my father-"
"Forget him. Jeri, you should follow what you want and I'm totally going to support you if that's what you want." he stared deeply into her eyes. "I would support you no matter what."
"Takato..." Jeri sighed.
"I seriously would." he frowned. "I loved you since I was younger and I love you now."
The two seemed to stare at each other for moments. His hand curled around her's and brought it up to her chest. Placing it there, he zoned in on her wide amber eyes.
"You have a heart of a lion and it's the most beautiful thing about you."
She let herself breathe,
"I love you, too. You know that, right?"
"I do now." he smiled and kissed her. Ignoring the blush on their cheeks, they continued holding hands as they made their way back down to the panda exhibit. It wasn't often they had time alone like this and they were going to cherish it.
"You know...as strange as this is I would have betted on a digimon coming to ruin things." the Tamer laughed, scratching his head. "That's kind of a lame thought, huh?"
"I'm sure everything is fine," assured Jeri. "Besides, a whole group of us is out there ready to stop any bad digimon. I'm sure there's nothing we can't handle."
"I don't think I can handle this, Master Kazu." Andromon objected. "Sure, we've done some unpredictable things but this is a little...unorthodox."
"Relax. I've seen this done a million times in the movies. Just got to jump with me up to the top of that tower." the 'crazy' Tamer pointed to the top of the skyscraper. They were in Japan and time was running out. Sunset was almost immanent. "That party will be at the penthouse suite and the only way to get in is from the top. Carry me to the top and we can grab Astamon."
"Maybe it's time to call in reinforcements," suggested the android digimon weakly. But Kazu pulled in his partner.
"No. No way in hell. I am impressing Ryo even if it kills me."
"If that's what you wish." sighed Andromon. He might be his partner, but sometimes Kazu's idea were completely insane. For whatever reason being it the undying loyalty a digimon like him could have, Andromon was willing to set his rational thought aside and join him on the crazy antics he schemed. Besides, he understood Kazu's frustration being part of the 'B Team'. They were worthy of being more than that but in order for the group to trust them, defeating Astamon was crucial. And in order for Astamon to be defeated they need to wake him up...and find him.
Andromon picked up Kazu and making sure his Tamer was secure, launched himself up in the sky. His Tamer shut his eyes as the wind sliced through them and the force of jumping so quickly made him look unwell. However, Andromon didn't feel a single thing and accomplished latching onto the upper part of the tower. Then, they climbed.
"I'm not gunna look. I'm not gunna look." whimpered Kazu quietly. "We're not thousands of feet from the ground-"
"Actually, we are approximately forty stories high or in feet that-"
"Andromon, shut up I was being sarcastic with that fact-I do not want to know how high up we are."
"Very well, Master Kazu. Although, I find it frivolous that you are afraid of heights. You know perfectly well I will not drop you."
The duo make it to the top and they jumped down a flight of stairs to come to the penthouse suite party. Carefully, they zipped across on the outside to the balcony and immersed themselves into the party going on.
Drinks were everywhere in coloured neon glasses, and girls were barely in clothes. Music played loudly with people chattering everywhere. Even a few men were shirtless, but a pool answered their questions. Near the pool and Tiki bar was Astamon-wearing shades and a band t-shirt surrounded by beautiful women who were fawning over him. He looked passed out on a pool chair.
"There he is." Kazu made a bee line with his digimon in tow.
"Oh, he's so handsome." commented a woman in a blue bikini. "I would love to take him home."
"Poor guy, he must be on some kind of hard drug." another said in a white one piece suit. "I wonder if he's alone here..."
"Ladies! I am here to take the digimon home!" announced Kazu but none of the ladies had heard him. He had to yell again in order to get a few glares.
"Ew, who let this kid in?"
"I am a Tamer and that is a digimon you're drooling over." the teen gritted his teeth. "So, let us take him back and-"
"Oh, he's a cute digimon. If they look like this-I wouldn't mind being a Tamer." the blue bakini girl traced a finger on Astamons' chest.
"Okay, ew. Andromon please can you just-" he pinched his nose. He can't get a number from a cute girl to save his life, but a passed out digimon barely resembling a human can become the perfect fantasy for model ready women...
The cyborg digimon picked up Astamon and slugged him over his shoulder. They left the party trying not to give attention to the whining women who made drunk slurs at them. They took the elevator down to meet up with Kenta and MarineAngemon.
"Well, I'm surprised you two didn't get into trouble." he commented. Kazu for once was shocked as well. Usually, things like that didn't go that well for him...
It was almost dusk. The sun was setting past the city skyline and while back in Shinjuku, Kazu and Kenta had no figured out a way to wake up Astamon. It seemed no matter how many pokes, prods, attacks, or noises they could make, the digimon was still asleep.
"We're almost due to that meeting with the others and we have no idea how to wake this guy up." Kenta adjusted his glasses. "I honestly have no idea what else we can do."
"Maybe..." Kazu snapped his fingers and told his digimon to lay him down. Carefully, he rocked the demon ultimate's body softly while calling out his name in almost a sing song voice.
"Kazu-"
"Sh-Astamon, wake up Astamon..." he whispered. When he was little, his mother would do this to wake him up. Instead of being grouchy, he would usually just rouse awake even if he had a super sick dream of conquering the world. To Kenta's horror, it was working.
The tiny wings on Astamon's back started to twitch and he furrowed his eyebrows, almost fighting to stay asleep. A small groan escaped his lips and the group started to gasp.
"It's working-"
"No, shit it's working."
"Pi!" cried MarineAngemon. Kazu looked at his friend who turned pale.
"What did the little guy say?"
"He said asked what are we going to do once he wakes up?"
The Tamer's mouth gapped open, a classic sign that he hadn't thought ahead of his plan. Shaking his head he was about to respond before a digital barrier appeared around them.
"Master Kazu! A digimon is here! I sense a challenger." frowned Andromon getting himself in a battle stance. Kazu whipped out his brown D-Arc and narrowed his eyes.
"Oh that's just fantastic! C'mon out you're no match for the Kazu and Kenta duo!"
"Is that so?" asked a female voice. It had a southern American twang in it and sounded very close. Kazu looked down to see a small child like monster with blue skin, red eyes and dark azure fins on her. He barely made a sound before she punched him in the gut and threw him over her shoulder. Slamming on the hard and hot pavement, he let out a choked cry of his lungs giving out air.
"Master Kazu!" shouted Andromon angrily. He thrust his arm in the air. "You will regret that fiend!"
"As if, sugar." was the snarky reply of Ranamon. Kenta quickly examined her with his D-Arc and commanded MarineAngemon to heal his friend before they fought her.
With grace, he floated over to the hurt Tamer. Two Kahuna Kisses later, and Kazu sprung up, feeling refreshed.
"Thanks man. Let's cream that stupid fish girl."
"Whipping Waves!" A sudden blast of water crushed into Andromon making sparks from his circuit fly everywhere. This wasn't good: Andromon had a severe weakness to water. Gritting his teeth, he let out a battle cry,
"Lightning Blade!"
"Ah, ah. Not going to work, sweet sugar." winked Ranamon. She used her water around her body to turn them into tentacles and ripped his arm module apart. Then, she body checked herself into him and sent him flying into a wall.
MarineAngemon went out to attack Ranamon with a Kahuna Kiss. One hit her and she was dazed as the small pink mega formed a bubble around her.
"Oh!" she fumed, banging on the glass. "How am I going to kill that demon lord now?"
"Demon lord?" Kazu and Kenta stopped in their tracks. What demon lord?
"Yeah, that stupid Astamon!" stomped Ranamon, crossing her arms. "Lord UltimateChaosmon sent me and I gotta get that jerk! Can you let me do that at least?"
"Uh, I don't think so. Besides, he can't wake up." Kenta rubbed the back of his head.
"Well, I didn't want to do this." cautioned Ranamon. The aquatic digimon spun on her heel and put her hands up in the air. "But, you idiots leave me no choice. Evolution!"
WARP DIGIVOLUTION
"Ranamon warp digivolve to...AncientMermaimon!"
The data stream unveiled a beautiful mermaid digimon with long white hair, blue fins that concealed her head like a helm. Glorious trouquoise and yellow scales decorated her body and she wielded an impressive golden trident with fins decorating the tips of it. She sliced the bubble MarineAngemon made easily, and slithered out.
She raised her hand and water started to float in the air. They split into bubbles the size of quarters and froze. Kenta tensed up. This didn't look good.
"MarineAngemon, you got to dodge!"
"Pi?"
"MarineAngemon?"
The small pink digimon frowned and tried to put up a barrier in front of his Tamer and Kazu. However he was too slow and the attack AncientMermaimon unleashed had broken through.
"Crystal Bellow!"
The mega didn't stand a chance. A flash later, and a small white digimon was on the ground, barely awake.
"No..." gasped Kenta looking pained. He sprinted to his digimon and scooped him up asking if he was alright. The bespectle Tamer felt the golden trident touch his throat and AncientMermaimon looking down on him with a furious expression.
"Now, sweet thing I won't ask again. Where. Is. The. Demon. Lord?"
"I don't know what you're talking about and I don't care. You're terrible." said Kenta. He looked darkly at the digimon who if she didn't have her helm, would have rolled her eyes.
"Ugh, humans. Well, I'll just take you out-"
"ARRRGHH!"
The shout made the ground rumble and everyone stopped what they were doing. A slam exploded the ground into many spider web cracks and cars sounded their screeching alarm. Lights flickered and now that dusk had arrived, it was harder to see who had jumped behind AncientMermaimon. But it was big, and dark. And it did not look happy.
"Who dares to disturb my slumber?" the slow deliberate question sent chills up everyone's spine. The hulking monster loomed over the aquatic mega, Kazu, Kenta, a newly de-evolved Gaurdomon and what used to be MarineAngemon. The two Tamers only stole a second glance at each other in hope the other knew what was going on. But, they were clueless as the others.
"Excuse me, sugar but who are you?" asked AncientMermaimon with a snarky tone. She didn't seem as frightened but she clenched her trident and held a hand out ready to attack back. The voice boomed again.
"I am the calamity of darkness, I am the hellfire of the digital world, I am he who slumbers under the sin of sloth," the dark figure loomed forward so that a lampost caught some of the facial features of the dark newcomer. It was almost alike a bear but with brutal fangs, blood lust eyes, and large claws that could slice anything into ribbons. Massive horns ripped out of his head and dark purple wings were spread wide, looking like he belonged to the ninth level of hell.
"I am Belphmon, demon lord of Sloth and I have awakened."
Kazu and Kenta wanted to cry. This was a demon lord? It was freaking terrifying! Then, they saw that Astamon had vanished without a trace. Could he...could he be this Belphmon?
"I have a crazy plan." whispered Kazu. "You have to go along with me."
"You always have a crazy plan," snapped his friend. "And the last one cost MarineAngemon here his life almost."
"Just go with it-HEY! Uh, Mr. Demon Lord." waved Kazu trying to look cheerful. "That AncientMermaimon woke you up!"
"What?!" cried the mega aquatic digimon looking furious. She let out a hiss.
"Uh-yeah! She did it! Mr. Almighty Lord of Demons." Kenta bowed quickly to avoid that anguishing gaze from the demon digimon. He seemed to pause for a second at the two Tamers and examined them. Then he let out a low growl.
"If two of you say how it is then I believe you. A worthy response. You have my thanks."
"Uh-hang, hang on there sweet heart." stammered the digimon, her fin flipping her backwards, like she was reeling. "I-I didn't wake you up. I'm just assigned to find you for Lord UltimateChaosmon-"
"UltimateChaosmon?" questioned Belphemon, cocking his head to the side. "I...HATE HIM! How DARE you stand before me as this welp of a digimon and tell me that you are here on HIS behalf. I will destroy you!"
Black chains that wrapped around his body had started to dissolve and reform in front of him. They tightened and straightened themselves as if they were awaiting for a command. Belphemon gave it.
"LAMPRATHUS!"
The chains sprinted towards AncientMermaimon. They whipped at her violently making her bleed data instantly. Attacking the chain, she whipped her tail and slapped them away. That gave her enough time to dissolve into water and retreat into a sewer grate. Another chain tried to coil itself around her body but it was too late as she had barely escaped.
The demon lord let out a howl and turned his attention to the quivering quartet that were huddled together. They avoided his gaze and stared at his body. A long sigh escaped his lips.
"I am sleepy. Do not wake me up again unless that slimy mermaid shows herself again. Do I make myself clear, peasants?"
"Ye-Yes, sir!" gulped Kenta and Kazu. They wanted to run but their legs were glued to the ground.
In a flash, Belphemon had grown significantly smaller and the size of a soccer ball. He had an alarm clock chained around his body and tiny wings wrapped around his body. Small black horns poked out and he was snoring again like he was a peaceful baby digimon and not a blood thirty demon lord.
Kazu was the first to speak as he picked up the tiny digimon and shook him. He didn't stir.
"Well, we didn't beat him technically." he said to himself. Then let out a cheer, "But we sure as hell can tell the others that we caught a Demon Lord. Kenta, what do you say-" he was cut off by the sight of Kenta slumped on his knees looking at his unconscious partner. He was looking at his D-Arc, analyzing the data that showed on his new form.
"Tokomon...In-Training." he murmured to himself. Putting it away he hung his head low and stayed silent.
"Buddy! What's the hold up-we won!" Kazu grinned and was about to playfully punch his friend when Kenta sprung up from the ground and pointed a finger at him.
"No, Kazu! We didn't win! We almost got killed out there and MarineAngemon got severely hurt because we couldn't defend ourselves. Jesus, Rika was right we are going to do something incredibly stupid and get ourselves hurt or worse our partners. We are going to find the others and first thing is to put that digimon in some kind of lockdown."
"Woah, bud chill," Kazu frowned. "Everything is cool he's okay-"
"Tokomon tried to protect us by sacrificing himself. Don't you understand that? We aren't like the others when we face mega level digimon-we will lose. We will never get some Biomerge digivolution and we can't just run into every dangerous situation thinking we'll come out alright." Kenta breathed heavily. The anger from him made his friend go rigid and still. Tired, the Tamer took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "I'm...I'm just gunna go. Tell the others we're fine."
Kazu stood there listening to his friends words and they stung. Feeling terrible, the Tamer didn't think his friend would be so upset. Did he really feel that way about them being this 'B' Team?
Slowly, he picked up the sleeping Belephmon who snored. It didn't seem sensible to really just leave the Demon Lord here and that AncientMermaidmon was lurking around still.
Gaurdomon strutted up to Kazu,
"I do believe when I say that we are in quite a strange predicament, Master Kazu."
