This was the start of a nightmare in Sadie's eyes. Although, everything was going fine, she didn't know that everything was going to take a turn for the worst. She moved in with Joseph, signed the divorce papers, and put the perpetrator of their case behind bars. Though everything was going fine, the next month was hell.
It was late at night and Sadie still hadn't gotten an ounce of sleep. She laid next to Joseph, his hand on her waist. She knew that this was going to be her new home, but it didn't feel like it at all. It really felt like a foreign country. She missed her old home, the place where she spent most of her money on buying and decorating. She poured her heart and soul into decorating that place, and all of that work was put into cardboard boxes for it to collect dust and rust. Along with that, she went the obviously unnecessary route and purchased that lingerie. She never got to experience sex with him after their wedding day, and they had shared their fantasies with each other. She was just remembering all of this, and it made her cry. The empire she had built was crumbling down and burning before her eyes. She cried into her pillow, her body jerking with each sob. She felt Joseph shift in his sleep, his body moving away from her's.
"Sadie, what's wrong?" He asked, placing his hand on her shoulder. She couldn't even talk at this point. She was inconsolable. Joseph stood from out of the bed and picked her up. She sobbed onto his chest as she was carried in the living room. He set her on the couch and went into the kitchen to make her a glass of water. He returned and handed her the glass. She took small sips, which calmed her down greatly. He sat down next to her and held her close, stroking her shoulder softly. She listened to his calm heartbeat, which calmed her down completely.
"Do you want to talk about it, Sadie?" He asked, stroking her hair. She wiped her face of the tears and sniffled. "What has you upset?" She had to think about it for a minute. She really couldn't exactly say what the problem was. There were so many problems to choose from that she would end up telling him the entire world.
"I've been thinking.. about my situation." She said softly. "I just need to relax." She sighed and relaxed into him. She trailed her finger over the terrain of his torso. He looked at her as she progressed, feeling a warm feeling in the pit of his stomach. She kissed him, her hand still exploring his torso. He lifted her shirt and touched her chest. She moaned at the contact. She melted under his touch, her hands moving to lock themselves in his black hair. "I love you, Joseph."
That was all that she could remember from that night. She woke up next to Joseph, the room that she was used to waking up in, different. The colors seemed so abstract and she would get used to them sooner or later.
She stepped into the shower. She felt dirty from the last night. Joseph and her had some of the best sex they had in a while. She ran the hot water and tried staying on balance. She didn't feel up to par. Something felt heavy in her midsection. She figured that it was just the after-sex feeling, but it was just a little bit more uncomfortable. She rested her head on the wall, the feeling in her abdomen gradually rising to a painful level. She dry heaved, almost collapsing on the shower floor. She allowed herself to fall to the floor, the pain unbearable. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She curled into a ball, the hot water making her skin turn red. She could care less about her skin. This pain in her stomach won her concern. She heard the bathroom door open, and in came her lover.
"Joseph.." she groaned softly. He hummed yes. "Help." She heard his footsteps come over to the shower. He pulled the shower curtain back and saw her on the floor.
"What's wrong?" He asked, turning off the shower. He picked her up from out of the shower.
"My stomach hurts." He set her down near the counter, where she leaned on the surface. He grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her. He kissed her cheek.
"I'll take you to the hospital, okay?" She nodded and tucked her lip under her teeth. He kissed her on the cheek one last time before he stepped out of the bathroom. She dried off and threw on her clothes. She had work today, but they would understand that she is in the hospital, and she needs to take it easy.
Joseph took her to the hospital and gave her to the paramedics. He had to check into the office and figure out a new case to take.
"Sadie Castellanos?" The doctor called from the front door. She stood, taking extra care not to agitate the pain in her stomach. He guided her into his office.
"So, Mrs. Castellanos-"
"Actually, it's Mrs Adolvsson." She interrupted. The doctor looked at her with a somewhat confused face.
"Mrs. Adolvsson. What seems to be the problem?" He grabbed his clipboard and flow chart.
"I've had this sharp feeling in my stomach that won't go away." The doctor wrote a little note and clicked the pen.
"Alright, Mrs. Adolvsson." The doctor stood from his chair and walked over to her. "Show me where the pain is."
"It's around this whole area." She referred to her abdomen.
"Can you lay down?" He asked. She did as requested and allowed the doctor to feel her stomach. "Tell me if it hurts where I touch, alright?" She nodded and tried to relax even the slightest amount. He pressed his fingers on her stomach. She groaned when he got to where she might have thought where her uterus was.
"That's where it hurts?" He lifted his hand and grabbed his clipboard and pen. He scribbled another note on the flow chart and set it down. "We are going to run a couple of tests to make sure you're alright. It'll take less than half an hour, but we'll keep you updated if anything comes up."
"Thank you, doctor." She said as he stepped out of the room.
He came back moments later with a cup and a needle. "Okay!" He said awkwardly loud, almost startling her. "What I'm going to do is take a blood sample and a urine sample. It shouldn't hurt at all, and it shouldn't take long either." He put on some gloves and grabbed the needle, making her get a little bit more anxious than what she already was. She offered her IV and the doctor continuously slapped the skin, looking for a vein. A blue line finally formed in her skin. First came the antibacterial solution and then the tight and hot pain of that needle. She cringed and felt the siphoning of her blood. It felt like life was being sucked out of her. She saw the red liquid pooling in the syringe and she almost gasped at how much she had lost. That didn't seem so much like a sample, it was more like a full donation. "Alright, that's that. Now, take this cup and go into the bathroom. When you're done, there is a little panel in the wall. Open it and place the sample there." She nodded and followed his directions.
She returned to the doctor's office and awaited the results. She pulled out her phone and played games to pass the time.
The doctor came back in the office after almost ten minutes. He had two papers in his hand and a half smile on his face. "Okay. So, do you want to read it, or do you want the conclusions?" He asked.
"Just the conclusions, please."
"Okay. The blood test came back negative. There are no signs of sexually transmitted diseases or cancer. The urine sample, however, came back positive. Congratulations, Mrs. Adolvsson, you're going to be a mother soon." She had a look of confusion on her face. She could have sworn that Joseph used his spermicide!
"I'm sorry, there must be some sort of mistake."
"No mistake, Mrs. Adolvsson. Most women experience cramps when pregnant. Isn't that the reason why you are here?" She felt a pulsing in her head. She fainted on the medical bed, and that was all that she remembered from that day.
