CHAPTER 10: THE AWFUL TRUTH
"Good morning", Koga greeted Inuyasha materializing in the kitchen, half naked, giving his lover a quick kiss on the head.
"I thought you never slept", Inuyasha said taking a sip of his coffee wearing a white loose t-shirt and red plaid pajama pants.
"I don't sleep, but I like watching you sleep", he smiled embracing the other from behind.
"Put some clothes on you creepy bastard", Inuyasha said noticing that Koga was wearing nothing but a pair of black boxer briefs that he took from his dresser. "Miroku might walk in".
"That blood sucker sleeps through half the day", Koga said not liking how that vampire was now living in his mansion. It took a lot of convincing from Inuyasha, but he eventually gave in and let Miroku live in one of the guest rooms, particularly the one furthest from Inuyasha's bedroom. Deciding to change the subject, he brought the other's condition.
"There's a full moon tonight Inuyasha", Koga said seriously, sitting down at the table still in his underwear. "Will you be alright?"
"Don't worry about me, the transformation doesn't hurt it just feels weird", Inuyasha said. True to what Koga told him about the curse, for the last four months on every full moon night he grew fangs and claws, his hair grew longer and wilder, while his human ears turned into furry wolf ears.
"I'm not worried about that, I'm just worried someone might find out", the spirit said.
"No one's going to find out as long as I don't go out anywhere during the full moon", Inuyasha smiled at him, assuring that everything was fine.
"Good morning everyone!" Miroku greeted walking into the kitchen in a dark blue house coat.
"You're up early", Koga said with a not so subtle glare.
"Yes well, I wanted to enjoy breakfast with the ever lovely Inuyasha", the vampire said sweetly.
"You make me sick", Koga spoke venomously.
"Good thing you don't have a stomach", Miroku shot back with a chuckle.
"He's got you there", Inuyasha chuckled. Koga didn't like being made fun of so he materialized his normal clothes back on and left through the ceiling. "You probably shouldn't push your luck with him Miroku".
"I know, but it sure is fun to mess with him", the vampire smiled pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"I still don't know why you want to live here, I told you that I'm with Koga and I never cheat on someone I'm in a relationship with", Inuyasha said looking at the vampire in confusion.
"Well I still think I can change your mind, but in the meantime it's nice to have a secluded place like this to live due to my nature", Miroku smiled sitting across the table.
"So why are you up early?" Inuyasha asked wondering the same thing that his ghostly boyfriend did.
"I have a date tonight and I need to get a new outfit", Miroku bragged.
"And that's why you and I will never be a couple", Inuyasha stated.
"You can't blame me for keeping myself busy while I wait for you", the vampire said in a sweet tone. "Don't wait up", He stood up to leave after finishing his pointless breakfast. He could still eat human food, but as he told Inuyasha it was equivalent to chewing gum to a vampire.
"Perverted vampire", Inuyasha huffed continuing his own breakfast.
LATER THAT NIGHT
Inuyasha headed down stairs in the dark corridors. He didn't need any lights because his now heightened senses also came with the ability to see in the dark. A few minutes ago the full moon made its grand appearance and he went through the transformation from man to wolf. His ears turned into furred wolf ears that sat atop his head, his hair grew in length, his nails turned long and pointed, and his teeth became sharp like fangs. Inuyasha even felt a little taller now, still a few inches shorter than Koga though.
'This isn't so bad', he thought looking at his claws. He made his way into the kitchen when a certain smell caught his interest. For some odd reason he was compelled to follow the scent to the fridge, open it, pull out a raw bloody stake and begin gnawing on it.
"Um…are you okay?" Inuyasha whipped his head around, raw meat still hanging from his mouth. Koga stood there looking concerned and it made him realize what he was doing. Spitting the disgusting raw steak out Inuyasha ran over to the sink and washed the awful taste out of his mouth.
"I'm fine", Inuyasha said wiping the blood from his hands. His voice sounded a little scared, in actuality he wasn't fine.
"Are you really?" Koga asked skeptical. He walked over to Inuyasha and gently lifted his chin up. He then wiped away a spec of blood on the side of his mouth that he missed. "I was worried about this. The transformation was halted at this stage, but it seems some of those wolf instincts still try to rear up".
"I'm not going to…going to hurt anybody, am I?" Inuyasha asked looking away.
"No I don't think so, those wolf instincts don't seem that aggressive", Koga said running his hands through Inuyasha's hair in comforting gesture.
"Well that's a relief", Inuyasha sighed pulling away.
"Come on let's get you back to bed", Koga took his hand with his and led him back upstairs to their bedroom. When they reached the room he gently laid Inuyasha on the bed.
'Don't worry I'll fix this, as soon as I find my body I'll fix this', He thought with determination while watching Inuyasha fall back to sleep.
THE NEXT WEEK
All week Koga had tripled his efforts into finding his body. He searched every nook and cranny of the mansion. Every room, every hall, the attic, the basement, searched from top to bottom. It was even more frustrating than the one hundred and fifty years he spent looking already, especially when he came up empty handed every single day. He was so busy with this search he hardly spent time with Inuyasha nor did he bother threatening Miroku. Well a certain silvery haired male was starting to get sick of it.
"Koga!" Inuyasha shouted when he entered the library. When he didn't get a response a shouted even louder.
"What!? What's wrong!?" Koga frantically asked while phasing through the wall.
"That's what I want to know", Inuyasha asked crossing his arms. "You've been acting weird and distant all week. What's up with you?" Koga frowned realizing the other's point.
"It's complicated", the ghost lied. It wasn't complicated at all, he just didn't want to worry his lover.
"Then explain it to me", Inuyasha asked. Koga sighed sadly. As much as he didn't want to burden Inuyasha with this, he figured it would be best to come clean about all this and explain what really happened to him.
"If you want answers follow me", Koga floated over to the table near the bookcase. Turning the head of the silver wolf statue he unlocked and opened the secret passageway hidden behind the book case. Opening the old wooden door he led Inuyasha down the stone steps.
"This better not be a joke", Inuyasha said using the light from his phone to light the path. He hadn't been down this way ever since he got scratched by that werewolf skull and became a hybrid. Opening a second door at the bottom of the steps Koga entered the circular stone chamber that was built beneath the mansion.
"This was my secret chamber. I hid a lot of dark things down here", he said looking around at the dusty books and shelves that held all sorts of odd stuff. "What if I told you that I'm not technically dead?" The spirit asked walking up to the center podium that held 'The World of Spirits' book.
"Well that would contradict what you led me to believe", Inuyasha said wondering what he was getting at. Koga opened the book and flipped to a specific chapter.
"Here, read this", he pointed at the first paragraph. Inuyasha stepped forward and did as he said.
SOUL SEPERATION
The act of removing the soul from the body. As long as the body remains intact the soul will be bound to this plain of existence. The soul will be like a ghost and have all the abilities and powers of a ghost. The physical body can be used to bind the spirit to a specific location though this act is not advised.
"Is this the truth?" Inuyasha asked.
"Yes", Koga said solemnly.
"What happened?" Inuyasha looked at him sadly.
"There was a woman named Tsubaki that I was friends with", the spirit began his story. "She was into the occult like I was and taught me a lot about", he chuckled humorlessly. "However, it turns out she was just after my money like everyone else. She did this to me and took everything except the mansion".
"That's horrible", Inuyasha said shocked that someone could trap someone as a ghost so callously. "Are you stuck like this forever?"
"Unless I find my body, yes I will be stuck here like this forever", Koga flipped the page of the book showing him the illustration of a skeleton and what looked like a soul in its hand. "My body is hidden somewhere in the mansion. That's why I can't leave the grounds. If I can reunite with my body, I'll be human an alive again", they remained silent for a moment until Inuyasha spoke again.
"There has to be something…", he tried to say but was cut off by the spirit.
"Nope, there's nothing I can do about it", Koga sounded pissed about the whole thing even over century later his anger handed subsided.
"I meant to say, there must be some clue, something that could lead to your body", Inuyasha said pacing the stone floor. "The fact that you're trapped here on the grounds means that your body is definitely here, we just have to find it with some cleverness".
"I take it that's where you come in handy", Koga smirked seeing his lover so confident about this.
"First we're going to have to get the blueprints of the house, then we can make a step by step checklist for every room", Inuyasha started going through all the steps they would need to thoroughly search the mansion.
"I've already searched every single damn room in this place", Koga said picking a random green bottle off the shelf behind him while he leaned against it. "Its not in here".
"Yes but not with me you haven't", the spirit actually got a good laugh out of that.
"Wow, aren't you cocky", he grinned.
"Look who's talking kettle", Inuyasha shot back. "Come on, I'll make some calls about those blueprints", he said leaving the secret room and heading back up the stairs. Koga had his doubts that it would be as easy as Inuyasha was making it sound, after all he had been searching this mansion for over a century, but he didn't voice them. "Don't worry Koga, we'll find your body", Inuyasha turned and smiled at him and the spirit was suddenly reminded why he was in love with this man. "But when you get your body, you're going to need a job".
"A job?" Koga raised his eyebrow at that. When he was alive he ran his families trading company, but he couldn't see himself doing anything less than that.
"Well yeah, I can't have you sitting around the house all day", Inuyasha chuckled walking back into the library.
"You do that!" Koga argued.
"My career has me working from home yes, but I still do travel around to meet clients and other artists", Inuyasha argued back. "Don't be a brat Koga, besides you need to get out in the world again".
"I think it's changed too much for me", Koga spoke in a melancholic tone.
"You'll be fine", Inuyasha smiled at him again and just like that the spirit's mood was brightened up once again. Maybe this could work, maybe they could find his body and he could get back out into the world.
Wow it's been awhile hasn't it. Sorry. I was just really indecisive about where to go with this story, particular this chapter. Originally I was just going to keep up with humor and romance, but then I decided to start moving this story towards the ending, which probably won't be for several more chapters.
Miroku's living with them now, in a coffin probably or whatever modern vampires sleep in these days.
Question, do you think I should have Inu's ex-boyfriend come into the picture? Would that be fun?
I would like to thank SweetInuKawiiMaru2014 for motivating me into finishing the chapter. This ones for you sweetie.
