"Hi, you're watching 'Question Corner', and I'm your host Kale." Standing in the middle of the room, I greeted the audience with a big smile. It was nice to be back, even if it was only for a brief time. Wearing a green turtle neck and blue jeans, I had my hair done up in a high ponytail with two silver bells hanging from the a ponytail's green, elastic band. It was the perfect substitute for the itchy Santa hat and Mini couldn't complain considering it did look seasonal. A giant, Christmas tree was planted behind the two red and green chairs with silver tinsel and colorful ornaments dressing its branches. Fake snow lined the edges of the stage, and every crewman had on some kind of seasonal item. From Christmas sweaters to Santa hats.
"Sorry we are a day late, but you'd be surprised at how hard it is to decorate one small set. Either way, today we are proud to celebrate our Christmas with us certain guest who is more than just your every day hero. She's been framed, tried, and almost executed, but she's not only survived it all, but has decided to take charge of her own path." Pivoting myself towards the left side of the stage, I outstretched my hand and announced. "Ladies and Gentlemen, please, put your hands together for Ahsoka Tano!" Coming up the steps of the stage, Ahsoka came up to me as the audience went in uproar. Screams of 'Merry Christmas, Ahsoka', and 'I always believed you', and 'I'm glad you weren't executed' were erupting from the crowd and was still erupting when Ahsoka and I greeted each other with a firm handshake. "It's good to see you again, Ahsoka." Patting her on the shoulder, I offered her a reassuring smile as I went on, "It means a lot that you came, thank you so much."
"Well, thank you for inviting me." She said, and I was pleased to see she looked about as confident as the last time I had interviewed her with the other younglings. I knew that I didn't want to push Ahsoka into an interview too early, but now that it had been a good ten or so months since her trial and her leaving the Jedi Order, I felt like it couldn't hurt to ask. It was more than exciting to here her message back, saying yes.
"Please," I politely pointed to the seat beside mine. "have a seat." Reaching towards the black coffee table with the large snowman snow globe in the center, I picked up a Santa hat fall and asked. "Do you think, by chance, I could convince you into this..." I pointed to the traditional Christmas hat, but with two holes cut out on either side to make room for her lekkus.
"Yeah, I don't think so."
"Meh, I had to at least ask." I leaned over my armrest and hung the fluffy hat on one of the Christmas tree branches. "What about some hot chocolate?" I nudged the red mug closer to Ahsoka before I plucked the green mug up for myself. Given, I should have been shuffling the 'Question Corner' cards by this point, but certain priorities had to come first when it came to Christmas.
Arching a creamy, white brow, Ahsoka eyed the mug suspiciously as she clasped her hands around the warm vessel. "What's in it?"
"Chocolate, I assume, but other than that I don't know. I guess, you could call it an Earthling tradition considering we drink it around Christmas time. Unless you're like me who drinks it in season and out of season."
"But," Her nose crinkled at the smell. "there's white blotches in it?"
"Melted marshmallows. It tastes good, I promise." Holding my mug up to my nose for inspection, I inhaled the wispy steam and sighed. Definitely hot chocolate. Stealing a sip, I smiled with utter happiness only to see Ahsoka still wasn't very convinced. She gingerly set her mug back down on the coffee table and objected the offer kindly.
In return, I placed my own mug down in exchange for the stack of cards, because as good as the drink tasted, I knew it was time to start the interview. "Don't worry about it, I should probably be starting the interview anyway rather than drooling over hot cocoa." I picked a card from the bottom of the deck and said. "Here is our first question is from 'Darth Meta', who asks, 'Why is your second lightsaber shorter than your first?'"
She replied. "That's what we would call a lightsaber shoto. They're a miniaturized version of your first lightsaber. Master Yoda suggests that those who want to incorporate a second blade may want to use a lightsaber shoto in their off-hand. It offers a greater range of motion."
"Is the process of finding your like crystal the same as when you find your first lightsaber? Like how Katooni and the other younglings found their own light-crystals?"
"When you make your shoto, you can choose to find a crystal with the same color distinction as your first light-crystal, or you can go another route, but ultimately it is all the same."
"Well, one of many questions down..." I pushed myself out of my chair and shifted through the pile of freshly wrapped gifts beside my chair. "One of many gifts to go." Finding and hefting a square, snowman wrapped, Christmas box into my arms, I walked it over to the coffee table and plopped the heavy weight down onto the surface. Cringing at the sound of the bang it made when it made contact with the surface, I cautiously slid it to her. "This is from Darth Meta."
Ahsoka protested in an unhappy tone, "Miss Kale, I thought we agreed on no gifts this Christmas?" but it was hard to take her seriously what with the faint smile growing on her face. Rubbing the palm of my hand into the small of my back, I sat down and cringe at the throbbing pain now choking my spin. Now, I wanted to know what was so heavy in that package. "So, I told one small lie. It's not the worst thing I've ever done. And, have you seen what happens when you take Christmas gifts away from these people? Take holiday cheer and turn it into terrorist threats. Especially captainrexbest35. She's kind of scary. She's a good gift giver, though." Seeing the unamused look on her face, I waved her off. "Oh, just open the gift."
Reluctantly, she drew open the lid and peeked inside. Her lekku's swaying forward as she shifted through the tissue paper. "Oh, no." Her eyes went wide and she gaped at me. "I can't except this."
"Yes, you can, and you will." Shaking my head, I crossed one leg over the other and nodded my chin towards the package on her lap. "Why don't you pull it out and show everyone what you got."
Obediently, she reached down into the box and dragged up a white chest plate along with a few other pieces of battle armor. "I can use all the armor I can get." She padded her empty belt, saying. "Consider my lightsabers are now gone, I figure it couldn't hurt to have a little protection here and there. So, thank you."
"See, now Christmas gifts are not that bad." I beamed a knowing smile, but Ahsoka gave me another unamused look. She said. "Try not to push your luck, Miss Kale. After all, you did lie."
Shrugging indignantly, I replied,"Yes, but for some reason I fear the viewers more than you." Ahsoka, eventually giving up, asked for the next question and so I read. "'Tolkiengirl052' asks, 'Have you ever had the urge to go back to the Temple?'"
Ahsoka, casting her eyes downwards, placed the armored chest plate back into the box and set it aside with little effort, in terms of strength, on her part. Inwardly, I felt a little jealous considering what I went through just trying to just pick it up. For half a heartbeat, she rubbed the back of her neck and awkwardly stared downwards, as though she were a child asked if she wanted to go home or not. It was a trait that seemed out of character for her until her back straightened like a rod and she looked at me head on. "At times, I have considered the option. Because, in the end, the Jedi were my family, and the Temple was my home, but that's all changed now. They've changed, and I've come to terms with that."
"It would still be hard to handle, though." I said, solemnly. "And you didn't deserve that."
"No one does, but what happened did and little is going to change that." she paused for a second, then said. "Except maybe Grievous."
"Well, I'm glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor." Taking a Santa wrapped present from the pile, I handed it to her, saying it was from TolkienGirl052.
"Thank you," she said as she opened the package and pulled out a handmade violin and a bow. The lite brown coat gleamed under the light as she held the instrument up by the neck. "I love it. But-uh-what is it?" Shifting forward in my chair, I peered over at the present as I said, "Aw, you got a violin. That was sweet of her. It takes a while to learn how to play, but you can handle it."
"Alright," she stared at the foreign object with a faint amusement. "How do you play it?"
"Well, I'm not musically inclined, but I do know how to hold it."
Extending the violin and bow to me, Ahsoka said. "Show me then." Gently wrapping my fingers around the base of neck, I went to tuck the 'chin rest' between the base of my jaw and my shoulder before I properly posed the bow on top of the bridge. Straightening my back and posing my elbow into proper position, I looked ready to play, but never came close to even stroking the strings before I handed it back to her. "And that's about as far as I go."
"Hey, it give me a start." Mimicking my pose, Ahsoka straightened her back and stabled the violin on top of her shoulder, but when she tried to pinch her chin against the chin rest her lekku got in the way. "Oh..." Awkwardly adjusting the piece to go underneath her lekku, she tried again, but all it did was get in the way of the bow.
I said, "I think we can officially say Togruta's had no part in creating the violin." Ahsoka laughed and said, "I can hang it on my wall, so thank you, TolkienGirl."
Agreeing with her, I chose another card from the deck, saying. "Now we have a question from 'Nene', who asks, 'Ahsoka, would you please comment on your relationship with Lux?'"
"There's nothing to comment on." she shrugged as she put the violin back into it's box.
"And 'Ahsokatano191' asks, 'What do you think of the situation of the Refugees in the Clone Wars?'"
With a pause, her eyes darkened upon the question, and I considered retracting it, but she was quick to break the silence. "I'll be the first to admit, that it wasn't easy saving people's lives knowing that you're destroying their home in the process. Their entire culture is bombed and shattered as though it never existed, but with the Separatist trying to take over the Galaxy there always seemed to be little choice...All I can say now is that I feel sorry for them." Nodding once, I reached back into the pile of presents to retrieve green and red striped box with a big, red bow on top to finish the Christmas statement. "This is from her."
Saying thank you, she opened the box and pulled out a DC-17 blaster and smiled. "This is always useful. Thank you."
"Another question?" I held a fresh card in my hand and Ahsoka gave me an approving nod before she placed the blaster back into its box. "'Ven'aranar Angel' asks, 'Have you been in contact with anyone from the 501st or the Temple since you left?'"
"I've kept in contact with no one since I've left. I can't fully leave if I do."
Grabbing another gift, I leaned forward and passed it to her, saying it was from Ven'aranar. Taking and holding the small black case in the palm of her orange hand, she popped open the lid and smiled. It was a beautiful necklace with the symbol of the Jedi Order as the centerpiece. "Thank you. This will be a great memoir for the good years I had at the Temple."
"Now, before I ask another question, I'd like to mention it's Ven'aranar's birthday today." I gestured to the large camera that Arnold, our cameraman, stood behind, "You wouldn't mind, would you?"
"No, not at all." turning herself a little bit more towards the camera, she said with a smile, "Thank you for the present, Ven'aranar, and I hope you are having a great lifeday this Christmas."
"Thank you," I told her, "Now, 'Pronker' asks, 'Do you feel the Force differently now that you're not among fellow Force users?'"
"No. The Force is always going to be a constant in my life, Jedi or not."
Switching out the cards, I said, "We have a question from 'Drmethilon', who asks, 'Did you find a job so you can take care of your living expenses? If not, have you considered working for Kale as a bodyguard? With the daily threats of kidnapping and destruction she has on her set every day, you are going to feel right at home." Eying the question sideways, I said. "Hey, I thought it was my job to give the hiring offers. Oh, never-mind, I'll beat him up later. Anyway, Ahsoka would you like a job?""
"Thanks, but no thanks. I found out the hard way that casual jobs don't suit me very well. Working for the Republic all your life tends to ruin your chance at being satisfied with the everyday job positions."
"Oh, I have a perfect question leading up to this. From..." I scanned the depleting deck before I found the right card and read, "'Hazardous By Instinct'. He asks, 'Now that you're not required to meditate or go on crazy adventures that nearly kill you and everyone around you, what do you do with your extra free time?'" I shrugged my right shoulder as I plopped the card onto the coffee tale to join the growing stack of already asked questions. "I figure the question kind of asks you what your job is now."
"I'm working with some rebels. It takes up a lot of my free time, which is nice considering I'm use to a life in the Republic where your daily schedule is planned out for you."
"And we have a question from an anonymous guest, who asks, 'where have you been since leaving the order?'" curiously, I watched her as I sipped my hot chocolate, interested as to which planet the young Force-user had settled into.
"I'm not permitted to talk about where I live." She said, "Sorry."
"Alright, fine" I casually threw my hands in the air as I said, "I can respect location secrecy." reaching to the side of chair, I pulled out a red box with a green ribbon on top and leaned forward, handing it to her before resting back into my seat. "This is from the anonymous guest."
Pulling the top of the wrapping paper away with one big swipe, she opened the lid, shifted through the tissue paper, and pulled out an ugly pink Christmas sweater. It had hearts and Christmas trees splattered throughout the canvas of the sweater and she held it up in front of her with the nicest smile she could muster. "It's so...so..."
"Don't worry, Ahsoka, it says on the tag that it's suppose to be a gag gift."
"Oh, thank goodness." She plopped the item down on top of the cardboard box and let out a sigh of relief. "Because I don't really like it."
"Hey, I'd be careful what you say. I mean, who knows maybe that sweater will keep you warm in that secret location of yours." I mockingly waved my finger at her, "I mean, haven't you ever had to wear at least one grandmother-type of sweater?"
She shook her head and set the item aside, "No. I guess that's one small blessing about being raised at the Temple."
"Then I guess I'll just have to send you a lot of grandma sweaters in order to make up for it, huh?" I countered, smiling as I searched for another question in the deck that would suit the topic.
"Then I guess it's good you don't know where I live then, isn't it?" In a cocky manner, she folded her arms and leaned back in her chair with smirk.
"Well, then I guess-Oh look, a perfectly good question has distracted me from my clever counter statement." I raised my hands and shrugged, "Bummer. Anyway-'Weathergirl17248' asks, 'What have you been doing since you left the Order? Working, exploring?'"
Rolling her eyes at my affinity to refuse to lose, she replied. "A little bit of both. Working with the rebels is a good source of my time and skill, and exploring the environment, that may or may not be new to me, is a pleasant one."
"So, if it's a pleasant terrain then Tatooine is officially out."
"Do you really want to push this topic, Miss Kale?"
I pursed my lips and grabbed a different question as I replied in a resigned tone, "Maybe. It depends on the mood I'm in, but if it's such a touchy subject then I'll move on...for now. Okay, so 'KestrelRaven9' asks, 'Do you look up to Shaak Ti as she is another Togruta female?'"
Ahsoka replied to the question as she eyed me with suspicion. "I've head that she's a good Jedi Master, but I've never been fully acquainted with her."
"Okay, then 'Captainrexbest35' asks, 'How much do you love your lightsabers?'"
"My lightsabers were my life, and it wasn't easy leaving them behind considering it was one of the only possessions the Jedi allowed us to have."
"Well, I can at least tell you you're going to have a lot of new possessions by the end of this show." I took another gift from the pile and handed it to her saying it was form Captainrexbest35.
"Thank you." Putting the gift on her lap, she opened the lid of the box, and pulled out a pair of red and white Mrs. Santa Claus slippers. Holding the gift by the heels of the boot she laughed outright. "I have a feeling everyone is expecting me to live somewhere very, very cold."
"Aw, that's sweet they all want to keep you warm out there in the 'wherever-space' you're living in at the moment. Especially if it's cold...is it cold?"
"I'm not telling, Miss Kale." Ahsoka half-glared before she went on. "But, I thank you for the gift, Captainrexbest." Putting the item back in the box, she placed it off to the side with the others.
"Fine, fine, fine. Here's the next question. 'Emerald-Laufeydottir' asks, 'What do you miss most about your previous life as a Jedi?'"
"My lightsabers." She answered simply.
"But, there isn't anything else you miss?"
"There is." She nodded curtly, "In fact, I miss my master, but I'm only going so deep into my personal life at the Temple." Respectfully putting the card down on the coffee table, I said, "That's alright." as I busied myself by grabbing another gift and handing it to her. "We're just glad you're here. This is from Emerald." Gently taking the item from my hands, she pulled open the top lid to reveal a tiger tooth necklace inside. "Wow." She brought the necklace closer for a better view. "What kind of tooth is that?" She asked.
"If I remember it right, she wrote tiger tooth on the order label." I replied.
Closing the case and putting it with the others, she said. "Thank you so much. I love it."
"Next question is from 'TCWRules', who asks, 'Now that your eyes are opened to the true nature of the Republic and the Jedi that you have been fighting for, have you considered reaching out to the other Jedi younglings and inspiring them to emancipate themselves as you did? They are just as much slaves of the Jedi Council as your former Master was a slave of the Hutts and the clones you fought beside are slaves of the Republic.'"
"Jedi or not, it is not my place to dictate what others do. I wouldn't have listened to any outsider, let alone an exiled Jedi, when I was a youngling, and as much as I might try and convince them out of the Order, I wouldn't see it ending very well. The Jedi abandoned me, and I harbor feelings on that subject that no one else can feel unless they were in the same position as I was. The only way anyone can be convinced out of the Order is either by someone they know close to them, who has had an injustice happen to them from the Council, or be framed for a crime and abandoned like I was. I'm afraid it's not as simple as giving them a motivational speech. "
"So, you don't think that any youngling would look at your situation as a reason to leave?"
"The Order is complicated. Younglings are taken away from their families at a young age and raised in a community where everyone around you, blood related or not, is your brother and/or sister. You're told if you work hard you can serve the Order as a powerful Jedi, they can help you excel at your abilities, and in return give you a sense of belonging." She let out a faint sigh as she subconsciously fingered the silver clips on her belt where her lightsabers once were. "It's why being bound from the Order and thrown to the Senate was so difficult for me, or any young Jedi for that matter. You lose your home and your family."
Seeing as she seemed almost ashamed of herself at not trying to find a way to help the next generation of Jedi, I tried to offer her some piece of mind. "I guess, another issue would be their biological families. If you convinced the younglings to follow you, and they listened, where would they all live? Who would take care of them? I highly doubt the Jedi would just hand you all the youngling's family documents. Ahsoka, I think you're doing everything you can do at the moment."
"Well, thank you, Miss Kale. That means a lot."
Smiling at her, said. "We have one last question from, 'TheWriter'sMistress' who asks, 'Do you think you can ever forgive the Jedi or Barriss?'"
"That's a question I don't think I'm ready to answer yet." She said. "All I know is that I made the right decision by leaving the Jedi Order."
"Then I guess the interview stops here." I smiled and grabbed the last two presents from beside my chair. "We have two more gifts to give you. One is from 'TheWriter'sMistress' and the other is from 'Jedi-TARDIS-Chick101'" I handed her a present wrapped in icy, blue paper and another wrapped in Santa-print wrapper. Placing the gifts into her lap, Ahsoka said 'thank you' once before she opened each one carefully. The first gift turned out to be a warm red and black winter sweater and the other one wound up being a picture frame with a sketch of Ahsoka herself in a Santa hat. "I'm telling you, I think everyone is thinking that you live somewhere cold now. I mean, you might as well fess up now before I bring out the coat collection."
"Thanks, but no thanks." She rolled her eyes. "And thank you Writer'sMistress and Jedi-TARDIS-Chick for your great gifts. In fact, I want to say thank you to everyone for these amazing gifts." She pointed to the pile now laying beside her chair.
Gingerly placing my hot chocolate down on the coffee table, I said. "Well, we're not done just yet. We have a few requests to fill." pushing myself out of my chair, I motioned for Ahsoka to follow suit before I pivoted myself towards the crowd, my hands clasped in front of me as I said, "Is TheWriter'sMistress and Ahsokatano191 in the stage tonight?" Upon being called, two girls stood up from different areas of the crowd and began to make their way down the stairs and towards the stage. TheWriter'sMistress wearing a purple sweater with lace on the back and blue jeans, and Ahsokatano191 wearing a simple T-shirt and denim pants.
Escorting them up the steps of the stage, I brought them towards Ahsoka and began the introductions. "I hope you don't have a phobia against hugging, Ahsoka, because both of these girls would like to give you one. Starting with her." I gestured to TheWriter'sMistress who gave a simple wave and a smile.
"Not at all." Ahsoka said encouragingly, and TheWriter'sMistress came forward. Staring at the young female Force-user, she hesitated for a moment. Standing there awkwardly, she scratched the side of her head as she said, "It's such an honor that you're here."
"Thank you, it's an honor to be here." Ahsoka gently favored one hip over the other as she observed the girl carefully. "You gave me that sweater, right?" TheWriter'sMistress nodded once as she respectfully kept her distance. "Well then, thank you." Taking one long step forward, Ahsoka gave her a quick hug. "That was really nice of you."
"You're welcome." TheWriter'sMistress replied, before the hug ended and she came back to stand beside me. Patting her on the shoulder, I motioned for Ahsokatano191 to go get her hug.
Striding forward with a boatload of confidence, Ahsokatano191 outstretched her arms and engulfed Ahsoka into a big bear hug, saying. "You're just a really awesome person."
"Thank you." Ahsoka replied in mid hug. "That's really nice of you to say."
Releasing the squished Togruta, the young fan came back to stand behind me, whispering from the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, it's official, she. Is. Cool."
"Agreed." TheWriter'sMistress nodded, with a big smile across her face. Chuckling to myself, I ushered them back to their seats, and wished them a Merry Christmas as they went. Afterwards, I came back to Ahsoka and shook her hand, saying, "Hey, it was really nice having you on the Show, Ahsoka. Thank you for coming."
"Well, thank you for inviting me," She told me as she firmly grasped my hand. "and for sharing all of your Earthling traditions with me." I looked back at her untouched hot chocolate mug said with an amused grin. "Well, almost all of them."
Her one shoulder bumped up in a shrug. "I have my limits, and I still can't get passed those white blotches floating around in there."
"Again, marshmallows." I shook my head.
"Whatever you want to call it, I'm still not drinking it." She countered, "However, I hope you have a Merry Christmas, Miss Kale."
"You, too, Ahsoka." Waving goodbye, she left the set and when she was out of sight, I turned to face the camera. My hands clasped behind my back, I gave a big smile as I said to the audience. "Well, that was our 'Question Corner' Christmas special. The crew and I have missed all of you guys a lot and would like to hear from you. Tell us how your Christmas went, the family, the presents, that one annoying cousin, and maybe share some Christmas traditions of your own with us. Either way, thank you all for just being you.
