A/N Okay so I had this chapter all written out but my stupid computer said I wasn't logged in or something and it got deleted plus I'm just lazy and don't want to walk down to the stupid library. Not to mention I got my phone taken away because apparently texting your sister a joke about marijuana isn't very funny with the older crowd. That's all for today Chicken Cutlets. Thank you for clicking and enjoy!
On my first day back to school I'm given more sympathy glances than I can count. Even people that I haven't spoken to in up to three years are coming up to me as if we've been friends since pre-school. In fact, I'm almost thankful when the bell rings and everybody goes off to their own class. But as soon as I sit down -with a little bit of fumbling here and there- I'm called up by the teacher to go to the principles office. I roll my eyes but get up anyway. Plutarchs door is open when I get there, luckily he doesn't seem angry with me.
"Please have a seat Miss Everdeen." he says gesturing to one of the plastic chairs in front of him. "Would you like some help?" he asks, once he's noticed I'm stumbling a bit.
"No," I answer immediately.
"Thought so," he mumbles under his breath. Right as I'm situated. "Alright so I am aware that you were involved in an accident and had to miss a couple weeks of school but because of that I have to now order you to go to tutoring sessions with Peeta Mellark."
"I don't want to," I reply blandly.
"I'm sorry that you don't want to but you have to." he doesn't seem fazed by my tone or he just chooses to ignore it. "For the next several weeks you will be meeting him every day at the library between five o'clock and six." he tells me while looking at his computer screen.
"Sorry but I can't." I lie. "I have work from four-thirty to seven. But thank you so much for the offer-" I begin to stand but Plutarch interrupts.
"Miss Everdeen your record clearly states that you are unemployed. Please sit back down." in my normal state I would've gone up and walked away. Damn my leg. "Starting tonight you will be meeting Peeta in the library for your session. You may now head back to class. Oh and Katniss...please pay attention." I groan and walk back to class.
Within what seems like minutes the school day is ending and I have to be meeting Peeta. Every single part of me doesn't want to. But I figure if I just go for the first week or two it'll be enough to maybe bring my grades up enough to pass. Oh dear God I hope it works. I eventually make it to the library and soon find Peeta sitting alone at one of the smaller round tables, looking through his phone. When I'm about three feet away from him, his shoot up and he smiles.
"Oh hey, you showed up." he chuckles lightly which makes me want to judo flip him (For my dear friend Abnegation Ravenclaw, yoooooo). "I though that you would just skip this whole thing."
"I would've but...you know." I mutter falling into my seat. "So what's on the agenda today?"
"Science," he tells me. I nod distantly while he begins to talk. Halfway through the session I'm beginning to crave a cigarette. My hands start shaking and soon I can't focus on anything else. A sudden shove of my shoulder snaps me back to the present. "Katniss did you hear what I said?" Peeta asks with a slightly concerned expression.
"No," I say bluntly.
"I asked if you remembered Newtons Third Law?" his first concerned frown is quickly turning into an amused smirk.
"Didn't we learn that in like-fifth grade?" I question tiredly.
"Yes we did, but it's going to be on the test this Friday so it'd help you if you knew it." he states.
"Isn't it that like, 'an object in motion tends to stay in motion' shit?" I look at him lazily.
"No," he laughs a little. "That's his first law. his third law is 'for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction'."
"Same thing," I shake my head, my crave becoming larger and more prominent. "Listen, this has been super fun and all, but I really have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." before he has a chance to call me back I've already made it to the barren hallways. Soon enough I'm outside where I immediately pull out my cigarettes and lighter. The first time I release my breath, my hysteria is slowly declining. After a couple minutes I hear Peeta call my name out again then he appears next to me with a sigh of relief.
"Katniss, you can't just leave like that." he says, slightly out of breath.
"Well," I trap the cigarette in between my teeth again. "I did."
"Yeah I can see that." he looks exasperated. I roll my eyes and rest my head against the brick wall of the building.
"You know, I appreciate you doing this for me but you're just wasting your time." I tell him.
"I that you're planning some fancy trip with Cato but that doesn't mean-"
"It's not that." I interrupt. "I know that beneath all of this tutoring shit you really just want to bring the old Katniss back. The one that you were friends with for ten years but she's really fucking gone Peeta. It's pointless what you're trying to do so stop. Please." I stare right into his unwavering blue eyes. He has an odd expression on his face, one that I can't really place.
"Katniss," he sighs dejectedly. I release a shuddering breath and force myself to tear my eyes away from his. Before it's fully burnt out, I drop my cigarette onto the ground and stomp it out with my boot.
"Bye, Peeta." I say while picking up my backpack and making my way to the parking lot. When I reach my new-old car -which is a very unsettling color of red- I dig through my bag trying to find my keys. Deciding that they've disappeared I turn to march back to the school but I'm stopped by the sight of Peeta holding my keys with a knowing smirk.
"You dropped these." he chuckles. I reach out to snatch the keys from him but just end up stumbling because of my goddamn crutches. His smirk turns into a smile when he realizes that I can't get the stupid keys from him. I give him my hardest glare which only makes his smile expand. "I will give these back to you, if you promise me that you will come to every single tutoring session until at least two of your subject grades are raised to an A."
"No," I shake my head.
"Okay." he smiles and sticks my keys into his pocket then proceeds to lean against my truck and use the mirror to fix his hair. "Do you need something?" he asks with faux concern. His smile morphs into a smug grin when he notices that he's winning.
"Fine!" I exclaim after what seems like a minute. "I'll come to the useless tutoring sessions." I don't think he realizes as he gives me the keys that I can simply not show up.
"Now if you're thinking of not showing up, I can very easily go to Mr. Havensbee and tell him that you're not coming and he might be forced to send you to the alternative school." he gives me a fake look of worry then it relaxes into a smile. "See you tomorrow." he whistles an unknown tune as he walks back to his car. With a defeated groan, I start my truck and drive back to my house.
A/N Okay so not my favorite chapter in the world, but there is some Everlark progress! Also I would like to apologize for not updating. I was going to a few days ago buuuuuut I was grounded. Apparently texting your 16 year old sister a super funny joke that isn't very funny to your parents has some consequences. I guess that's all for today darling Chicken Cutlets. Thanks for reading! Ily and DFTBA!
